Elegan/tg/entlemen, some of you might perhaps remember the thread from a fortnight ago in which the concept of a gentleman monk was discussed. For those who missed it, you can peruse it at your leisure in the archives: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/15476704/

Now, I found myself rather enamored with this concept, and a seed was planted in my mind, the seed of an idea for a prestige class custom-made for one who follows the way of the gentleman. It took some time to blossom into full form, but I present it now for your perusal, entertainment, and possible future use. It is in large part based on the Henshin Mystic prestige class found in Oriental Adventures, which I noticed had many abilities that seemed well-suited to one who seeks to enforce the principles of gentlemanliness and fair play.

I give you...the Disciple of Decorum.

A disciple of decorum strives to attain the ultimate ideal of high-class refinement. He is a consummate gentleman, positively brimming with politeness and class. He also looks down upon those who lack such refinement, and strives to teach the ways of gentility to all those he comes across. Since many see this kind of lifestyle as a sign of weakness, the disciple of decorum often finds himself targeted by uncouth ruffians who would seek to take advantage of his apparent meekness. However, anyone expecting a disciple of decorum to be a simpering fop is in for a painful surprise -- and a forceful lesson in proper manners -- since a disciple of decorum trains diligently so that he can give hooligans the punishment they deserve and show the world that refinement is strength. Disciples of decorum travel the world trying to eliminate coarseness and elevate all of society to a higher level of sophistication and civility.

Requirements: In order to become a disciple of decorum, a character must fulfill all the following criteria:
    >Alignment: Any lawful
    >Skills: Diplomacy 13 ranks, Knowledge (any) 6 ranks
    >Special: Flurry of blows ability, improved evasion ability; must pledge to follow the disciple of decorum's code of conduct (see below).

Class Skills: The disciple of decorum's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Balance (Dex), Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Escape Artist (Dex), Jump (Str), Knowledge (any) (Int), Listen (Wis), Perform (Cha), Profession (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), Spot (Wis), Swim (Str), and Tumble (Dex).
Skill points at each level: 4 + Int modifier

    Class Features
    ---------------------------------
Weapon and armor proficiency: Disciples of decorum gain no additional weapon or armor proficiencies. They suffer the same penalties for wearing armor that monks do.

Monk abilities: A disciple of decorum's class levels stack with his monk levels for the purposes of determining his unarmed damage, AC bonus, unarmored movement speed, and the effect of his flurry of blows ability.
    >> Anonymous 07/17/11(Sun)15:21 No.15614201
Improvised weapons (Ex): A disciple of decorum is faced with a dilemma: It is terribly improper in many situations to carry a weapon, but ruffians often appear without warning even in places one might consider safe. The disciple of decorum trains his body as a weapon to prepare for such eventualities, but sometimes a more advanced approach is necessary. Thus, he learns to use whatever tools are available as weapons -- typically the standard accoutrements of refinement, such as walking canes and pocketwatches. A disciple of decorum's improvised weapons deal as much damage as his unarmed strike plus an extra 1d4 points, and may be used in a flurry of blows as though they were special monk weapons.

Blind-Fight (Ex): At 2nd level, a disciple of decorum gains Blind-Fight as a bonus feat in order to better combat the underhanded tactics of foes who lack the decorum to offer a fair fight.
    >> Anonymous 07/17/11(Sun)15:22 No.15614204
Incorruptible body (Su): At 2nd level, a disciple of decorum seizes control of his own metabolism, becoming immune to all poisons.

Wise to your tricks (Ex): At 3rd level, a disciple of decorum has a preternatural awareness of danger honed by extensive experience fighting those who often resort to dirty tricks and surprise attacks. He retains his Dexterity bonus to AC even if caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker; however, he still loses his Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized. Furthermore, the disciple can no longer be flanked; he can react to opponents on opposite sides of him as easily as he can react to a single attacker. This denies a rogue the ability to sneak attack the disciple by flanking him, unless the attacker has at least four more rogue levels than the disciple has class levels. This does not stack with any uncanny dodge abilities gained from other classes.

Impeccable etiquette (Sp): Beginning at 4th level, a disciple of decorum can use Charm Monster as a spell-like ability three times per day, with a caster level equal to his disciple of decorum level and a save DC equal to 14 + his Charisma modifier. Additionally, the disciple of decorum gains a +4 insight bonus on all Bluff, Diplomacy, Gather Information, Intimidate, and Sense Motive checks.
    >> Anonymous 07/17/11(Sun)15:22 No.15614217
Correct the unruly (Su): At 4th level, the disciple of decorum's unarmed strike is empowered with the essence of law, the root of decorum and fair play. His unarmed strikes are considered lawfully-aligned for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction, and he gains a +1 enhancement bonus to hit and damage against chaotic creatures. Furthermore, once per day the disciple may attempt to smite a chaotic creature with an unarmed strike. He adds his Charisma bonus (if any) to his attack roll and deals 1 extra point of damage per class level. If the disciple accidentally smites a non-chaotic creature, the smite has no effect, but the ability is still used up for that day. At 7th level, the enhancement bonus on the disciple's unarmed strikes against chaotic creatures increases to +2, and he gains a second use per day of his smiting ability.

Ever punctual (Su): It is terribly rude to keep someone waiting, so a disciple of decorum learns how to travel at the speed of thought, to ensure that he always arrives on time. Beginning at 5th level, a disciple of decorum may magically transport himself as though using the spell Dimension Door once per day for every three class levels. His caster level for this effect is equal to his class level.

Blindsight (Ex): At 6th level, a disciple of decorum gains the ability to perfectly sense his surroundings without relying on sight, foiling any scoundrels who might try to conceal themselves from his view. Invisibility, darkness, and most forms of concealment are irrelevant to the disciple, and he can detect any creatures within range of this ability without need of a Spot or Listen check; however, he cannot detect ethereal or incorporeal creatures with this ability. This ability does not rely on hearing, and so functions normally in spite of deafness or magical silence. This ability functions to a range of 30 feet.
    >> Anonymous 07/17/11(Sun)15:23 No.15614221
Rapscallion's bane (Su): A 6th-level disciple gains the ability to imbue his hands and weapons with a magical fire that burns especially hot for those who defy the principles of gentility and fair play. Once per day, for a duration of up to 2 rounds per class level, each of the disciple's melee attacks deals an extra 1d6 fire damage per attack. If the target is chaotic, this ability instead adds 1d8 fire damage. The disciple can extinguish the flames before the expiration of the spell's duration, but still cannot use the power again that day.

Impeccable appearance (Su): Upon attaining 7th level, a disciple of decorum gains the ability to perfectly maintain his appearance in all aspects. With scarcely more than a passing thought, he can cause his hair (of all types) to become perfectly trimmed and styled, all dirt and grime to vanish from his person, and his clothing to become immaculately smoothed and adjusted after being ruffled in a scuffle. He can even instantly repair minor damage to his clothing, and make superficial injuries such as minor cuts and bruises vanish. This doesn't allow him to recover any HP, but it does keep him looking presentable at all times. This control over his bodily processes also means that he stops taking penalties to ability scores for aging, and cannot be magically aged; however, any such penalties already taken remain in place. Ability score bonuses for aging still accrue, and the disciple still dies of old age when his time comes.

Incorruptible mind (Su): At 8th level, a disciple of decorum becomes immune to all spells of the Enchantment school and powers of the Telepathy discipline, as well as all mind-affecting spells of the Illusion school.
    >> Anonymous 07/17/11(Sun)15:24 No.15614230
Decorum opens many doors (Su): At 9th level or higher, a disciple of decorum can assume an ethereal state for 2 rounds per level per day, as per the spell Etherealness. The disciple may go ethereal any number of times during a single day, provided the total number of rounds spent ethereal does not exceed twice his class level.

Paragon of politesse: A 10th level disciple of decorum has attained the epitome of etiquette, becoming infused with the essence of decorum and fair play. He is forevermore treated as an outsider instead of his original creature type for the purposes of spells and magical effects, and gains the Lawful subtype. Unlike other outsiders, he can still be brought back from the dead as though he were a creature of his previous type. Furthermore, he projects an aura of fair play that ensures that all within it abide by basic standards of fair play. This aura functions as the Invisibility Purge spell with a caster level equal to the disciple's class level. It also grants a +4 resistance bonus to saving throws against mind-affecting effects and immunity to poisons and sneak attacks to all within its radius, whether friend or foe. This aura cannot be dispelled, but is suppressed by antimagic fields.

Multiclass note: A monk who becomes a disciple of decorum may continue to advance in monk levels.
    >> Anonymous 07/17/11(Sun)15:24 No.15614240
Code of conduct: A disciple of decorum maintains a courteous and refined demeanor appropriate of a proper gentleman (or lady), and vows to uphold the principles of gentility and fair play. He may not use underhanded tactics, and does not tolerate their use. A disciple of decorum may never deal sneak attack damage, use poison against a foe, or use any non-harmless Compulsion effect (whether this effect is created by his own abilities or by an item used by the disciple). He may never attack a foe who is helpless, unaware of his presence, or who believes him to be an ally (though he may attack an ally if he announces his intent to do so, and provides a reasonable explanation for this intent). A disciple of decorum who knowingly and willingly violates this code of conduct, or who strays from a lawful alignment, cannot continue gaining levels as a disciple of discipline until he properly atones for his transgressions, but keeps all of his class abilities.

OP you should make a class based on effort. As in, hardly ever, but when it does, it monstrously destroys whatever is in the way. The focus of the class isn't the damage, it's that TRYING HARD ENOUGH AND NEVER GIVING UP WILL SEE YOU THROUGH is the way to be an adventurer.

Maybe high resistance to fear or generally just really tough to stop. I don't know, I cannot into D&D but this is awesome.

He's Gene, protagonist of God Hand. After a run in with some thugs of the game's gang du jour, he winded up losing an arm. Luckily, a woman by the name of Olivia shows up, and makes Gene an offer: a replacement arm (the titular God Hand), and the power to get his revenge, in exchange for retrieving the other God Hand, destroying the gang that cut off his arm, and stopping the gang's leaders: a group of 4 demons (one of which is a fat, chain smoking, lecherous, latino Elvis) that want to revive their dead king and take over the world. Sounds mostly like standard action game fair, except the game has tons of ridiculous humour, including the already mentioned Elvis demon, a lucha libre gorillia, the midget Super Sentai team, and special moves where Gene kicks someone in the nuts, or kicks them so hard they fly into space, complete with the star twinkle.

How about a chef who makes passive buffs? Not potions that provide +1 to hit for the duration of the battle, but like stews that provide a day long immunity to heavy bleeding or something due to heartiness. I could imagine the 10th class level feature being something like a multi-course meal that allows the eater to roll a save against dying each time they complete a course for that week?

    Just throwing thing out there.

Hm...this sounds like a very interesting idea...
It'll also be a lot harder to make than the disciple of discipline, seeing as I lifted the majority of the abilities for that one from existing classes, but this sounds like a challenge I'd enjoy trying. I love working with the interplay between fluff and crunch, no matter what the game is, so this would be right up my alley.

I doubt I'll be able to come close to finishing tonight, but if/when I ever do manage to stat up a chef PrC, I'll post it here under the name "Disciple of Discipline".
