In the distant past, when GW still used lead for it's miniatures and and the Eldar were still called Space Elves, Khorne was fluffed as the god of battles and warriors. A warrior concerned with honour, valour and victory could pray to Khorne without being a truly fallen servant of chaos.

He was the God of War, and Battle and Blood. Not just of mindless rage like the pathetic lesser deity he is portrayed as today.

marine wins. always. Inhuman accuracy. one explosive shell in the right place and the plasma weapon looses containment.

Marine with a close combat weapon?
probably still in the Marines favor but there is always a chance that the human will get a lucky shot and the marine will not dodge quite as quickly as he should.

Surely it depends of the Space Marine. I'd imagine a Black Templar, Dark Angel or Blood Angel being too prideful, zealous or suspicious to be a good guy within a SnS story.

But a Space Wolf, White Scar or a Salamander, might make a great protagonist. Or even a Smurf or Imperial Fist might make a great mentor type figure, training up a young warrior to help in their quest.

Of the three the idea of a Khornate warrior sounds best.

Worshiper of Khorne in his positive aspect of an honorable defender.

Runs around the Deamon worlds of the Eye of Terror butchering most of the other followers of the Dark Gods for perverting the words of faith.

He could be helped by a Isherite priestess of Nurgle in his aspect of healer, for instance.

Dreams of a Chaos Utopia in the Eye of Terror based upon the gods of Honor, Love, Health and Hope.

Emperor, being half-Asian, is disgraced by one corpulent duke of a fading noble family, one bloodthirsty 'manifest destiny' soldier and one scheming governmental minister while being teased by a decadent mistress who is the very image of a prim and proper Victorian woman in public, but through valour and noble actions in war is able to overcome them all and become a privileged favourite of a new, liberal Prime Minister?

They are one of the worlds that Conan encounters. It was an old ork homeworld that was quite close to the center of the Eye of Terror when it formed. None of the orks on it survived at the time but the spores in the soil did. But the effects of chaos in the early stages of development caused them grow a bit oddly.

His mother was a virgin sacrifice to Slaanesh that was, supposedly, rescued by the spirit of Khorne.

Khonan is the result of the union between the Spirit of Khorne and the ex-virgin sacrifice.

At least, that's wjh=hat his mother claims. It may even be true.

"Where are you going?" he asked the warrior, though in truth he already knew.

"Up there", the warrior said. He pointed towards the night above, "To the sky"

The old man laughed. "The sky is beyond your reach warrior, unless you have learnt to fly. I see no wings"

The warrior scowled "It's said beyond the Glimmer cities, the Star Kings wait. They have birds of fire and steel that carry men in their bellies between the stars."

"Ships made in ages long passed. Closed to us now. There is no place for you there, just as there is no way among the stars for men like you."

"I will make a way" said the warrior.

"Will you now. You will cast down the Star Kings and steal their firebirds. You will defeat their Thundermen and Iron blades. You will slay, the Headless One, the deamon Gaurdian of the Ashless Gate. You will through yourself against shock lance and void shield. Better you pay the price they will ask. Or better yet pay nothing and forget your mad need for vengeance.

"Forget my vengeance." The warrior growled. "Where where the star kings when the twisted ones came. Where where their Thundermen with their shock lances then. No, I shall pay their price
    a thousand fold, and gladly."

"With what" said the old man.

    The warrior drew his sword.

There is a tale they tell among the Ghoul Stars, between the Great Storm of Ihas and the haunted seas of the Syrion Nebulae. It is the tale of Veriais, the Diamond World, wrought by world smiths in the time of the Gold Men, when man first walked among the stars. A planet constructed of Crystal and diamond, it's buildings of Gold and Platinum and precious metals whose names have long been lost. A power it was in ancient days, with warriors that guarded it's treasure halls with unmatched ferocity.

The stories tell of a boy, a youth, barely a man, a child called Khonan who came to Veriais with wonder in his eyes and enchanted by the riches on show was caught chipping off gold from a temple sill. They beat him bloody and placed him on the first ship to leave orbit. "Tell all who know you. Tell them of Veriais and what it does to thieves", they told him.

The stories tell of man, a warrior named Khonan, a reaver, a slayer who came to Veriais, to seek the men who wronged him long ago. They tell of the battle that raged among the Palace of Light and the Cycernium. Of the killing in the Streets of Gold and how they carried the dying Khonan back to his ship and sent him away as a warning. "Tell them of Veriais" they said, "tell them of our Victories"

The stories tell of a King called Khonan, the Warlord of the Red Stars, The Star Sword, the Prince without a Planet, Deamon Slayer, Champion of Khorne, the Lord of Battle, who came to Veriais as a conqueror.

"Tell them of Veriais", they say, "the World that is no more."

The former Nurglite priestess step forwards towards the altar. Men and abominations stood silent in the grand halls of the temple, cloaked in terrifying blue garb and watching with unblinking eyes. The aspiring priest stood on the other side of the altar, the Raven God's champion of this dominion. He was a twisted figure, with dark eyes, a forked tongue and slithering tentacles for fingers. In one warped hand he held a torch that turned nine colours, and in the other a curved and jagged blade.

"Nurgle loving heathen." the twisted one said "It is time for your impure soul to be swallowed by Tzeentch."

The priestness nodded, and climbed onto the altar. Her body, spread out with sacrificial robes covering her. The aspiring priest lifted his dagger.

The scream that followed was like a lighting bolt echoing through a cave. The priestess looked up and saw the twisted one's warped hand served, black blood gushing out.

The acolytes screeched and looked around the hall. Suddenly, figures dashed out from the shadows. She could see a red warrior with a golden blade and warplate, along with a small green monster and a lithe warrior who moved like water and wielded both gun and sword. The assassin fired his pistol, hitting the Raven's champion in the head and destroying his skull.

Khonan swung his Atlantean chainsword, cutting through a hooded cultist's chest as if it were made of butter. Blood splashed upon his ceramite mail as he did, further coating him in red. A hissing acolyte drew a knife and lunged at Khonan like a beast, but the warrior of Khorne slammed his rock-like fist into the man's face, shattering bone and breaking flesh.

Sneeka had remained unnoticed due to his tiny size. The orkspawn drew his blades and began cutting the knees and tendons of any nearby, bodies soon collapsing and screams ringing through the temple.

The Eldar was attacked by several cultists. But he merely danced around their blows, ducking and weaving from blades. His sword bisected and pieced the hearts of any foolish enough to let their guard down. His pistol spat lances of light which cut through metal and turned flesh to paste.

The priestess looked at the chaos below as the acolytes hissed and cried, unable to understand what was happening. The priestess got off from the altar, but as she did the Temple's guards rushed into the hall. Wearing twisted robed armour and brandishing lasrifles with bladed ends, they were lead by an Ogre-like brute. An abhuman creature which did not think for itself but could crush a man's skull with ease.

The eldar turned and spotted the Tzeentchian guards as they charged forth. He shouted to his red companion.

"KHONAN! Armed men have arrived!" he shouted

The warrior smiled. "More fools eager to die? Very well." He drew his chainsword from the gut of a cultist and held it to the sky.

    "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!"

Khonan and Sneeka walk side by side, a titan of men and an imp of orks, along the streets of Antolla.

"I'z be sick a walkin'!" the green xeno said in it's bastardized Gothic. "Why can't we gets ourselves some of dem 'orses, or a nice shiny trukk?"

Khonan emitted a mix between a sigh and a growl. "I do not know why I bothered saving you from those Eldar slavers. You do nothing but complain and moan." he said

"Boss you save me cuz I'm da dead sneakiest grot thief in da whole galaxy!" the orkspawns aid proudly

"If you do no cease speaking you shall merely the dead grot thief of Antolla! Now hold your tongue, I will have no need of it when he go to battle."

Sneeka continued walking nervously with Khonan, now utterly silent.

As the pair walked they spotted a structure in the distance. It was an intimidating and cruel tower, waving colours painting it's sides and nine smaller stone buildings surrounding it in a circle. The sky above the tower was dark as space.

Khonan walked over to a nearby merchant. "Excuse me, but what is that tower in the distance?"

The merchant, old and weary looking, turned up to him and spoke. "That is the dark Temple of the Tzeentch. God of trickery and mutation. His servants are liars and manipulators, the shadowy horrors of Antolla. In that temple lurks a sorcerer, one of Tzeentch's chosen champions. He is evil beyond all measure, and bearer of the Mark of the Raven."

Khonan eyes broadened at those last words. He leaned towards the merchant. "A Raven?! What was that you said about a raven?!" he shouted

The merchant backed away a little, surprised. "Yes t-that's right. The Mark of the Raven, the symbol of Tzeentch's blessing. Ravens and snakes are among Tzeentch favoured animals so I hear..."

During the eldar moral decay, evil gods were born and ate the good gods (except one who hid) and is eating the souls of those who die without being caught by magitech machines that are in their ships that trap souls so that they don't go into the afterlife (the warp).

Warp is going through the afterlife, its initiated by magitech, its trigged by tech priests.

They fight hand to hand with enchanted weapons.

They have wizards (psykers, warlocks, etc).

during the middle ages the massive amounts of death and war caused the birth of an evil human god of war, it also eats souls.

Seeing the dangers of the afterlife all the shamans and traditional wizards in the world (i don't remember if it was 6000 or 60,000) got together, they cast a massive spell that culminated with them all committing ritual suicide, the result was all their souls fusing into one super strong magical soul. It was able to evade the still young and weak evil gods and incarnate as a human, it crushed the false religions and freed people from the evils of organized religion and used its superhuman powers to make warp travel safe...er as well as push back the darkness and start a golden age. This immortal godlike being was grieviously wounded by one of his demigod children who was corrupted by the darkness and is now on the cusp of death... it could reincarnate but with the evil gods waiting it will be devoured before it has a chance to and all hope would be lost. He now consumes the lives of a thousand people a day to power his warp beacon.

    etc...

WH 40K IS a sword and sorcery game. its just a somewhat futuristic one with lots of magitech.

Better still, wait for Black Crusade

I don't play the 40k Fantasy Flight games, but I heard you can transfer character between the different RPGs. Is this true?

Imagine a 0xp character among epic level party.

    requires a lotta patience

rank 5 DH chars, or psykers at least, compete fine with Deathwatch chars

also the only RT chars that are remotely impressive in a crossover are the actual Rogue Trader and the Navigator. Everything else is weaker, XP for XP, than in Dark Heresy (aside from say cleric and scum), and DH: Ascension chars at 13k xp are vastly more powerful than Deathwatch or RT chars at 13k xp

Yes. Which is awesome because it allows for SnS potential goodness.

Strange that the Rogue Trader and the Navigator aren't even that powerful compared in RT.

So which combination/system would be best for a sword and sorcery styled game?

Well a black crusade sorcerer who uses a force sword... heh. But seriously, BC seems the most apt. Also consider that Khorne is based off Crom.

    That's a very crappy bloodthirster I believe.

I love the OP pic. It looks like what the cover art of 40k would look like if it was made as a 70's RPG.
