18 KB Gelatinous Cube Quest The Cube 06/17/11(Fri)23:40 No.15304371
You feel the mental blink, shuddering throughout your body and coursing through it…

It is an odd feeling… As your mind opens up and become aware… Aware of your surroundings, aware of the dank cavern… Aware of your position sitting upon a crudely worked dias…

    Aware of these thoughts.

Enjoying the idea of being able to perform mental gymnastics you prefer a self check, curious as to what may have caused this sudden change and gain of mental facilities…

Even though this concept is new to you, it doesn’t take long to notice the freshly dead body trapped in your gelatinous body.

    Huh…

You also notice the metal band that the slowly digesting corpse was carrying… a metal band carrying a blue gem in it that still seems to glow with a faint blue light.

You wonder offhandedly whether it is this object that has given you the ability to wonder about this thing that might have given you this ability to wonder about this thing that might have given you….

You wiggle gently to dislodge the looping thought as you take in your surroundings… A concept odd to you as well but seems natural at the same time.

You are sitting on a stone dias in a dank and dark cave, engulfing what looks like to be a closed treasure chest. The hapless corpse which is now disintegrating in the middle of your ooze looks as if it was stretching out to try and reach the chest, not quite making it, frozen as his skin slowly dissolves off his body. While most of what he has seems to be flimsy cloth, you notice offhandedly that the metal boots and metal gauntlets he wears seem as impervious to your natural acidity as the crown… An apt comparison as the two objects are glowing faintly as well.

Huh. Oh well… What should you do?

You think down at your cube like form, and wonder offhandedly if you can change it…
Straining your mental facilities hard… (and offhandedly noting that the gem glowed a deeper blue) you attempt to try and alter the form, but to no avail.
A pity… This dias was getting boring and you wish you could see what at the end of…
    BLOP
You have that weird mental blink again… But this time for a different reason… Your surroundings have suddenly change.
You ‘gaze’ up to the dias you previously were on in confusion, with the confusion lifting slightly as you note a red gem in the boots has begun to dim.
    Interesting.

Noting that the chest still remains on top of the dias, you begin to miss the familiarity of it...
A thought passes through your mind in (what you would believe is called curiosity) that you would have liked to have known what was inside of...

    BLOP

Suddenly your surrounds have changed again...
You are back on top of the dias, but this time with the metal chest lying in front of you, closed.

Knowing to 'look' for it now, you realize that the gem in the boots had flashed again, and is now once more beginning to fade...

HAHAHA! Oh wow! I once considered running a Gelatinous Cube/Slime quest but it would have ultimately ended up being moved to /d/ and that wouldnt have been as much fun.

I'd come up with stats based on the following:
    -Viscosity
    -Surface tension
    -acidity
    and mass = HP
With mass being continuiously regenerated through consumption (even of just dust). Then leveling up each of the first 3 stats by one point would cost 1 day's regeneration.
Something to think about. Not going to try and hijack this.

However, not knowing what this 'wank' idea is (though it does sound pleasurable) you push it to one side and focus on opening the chest in front of you.

It is of no hassle for the hand to manage, as the chest seemed to have no locking mechanism on it...

Inside however, what you see is a nice embroidered purple pillow with a simple note written in elegant script on parchment.

You notice the blue gem flare slightly and the words bubble up to your thoughts.

"Ha ha ha. Losers! I hoped you enjoyed fighting out of my GELATINOUS CUBE! You didn't think my treasure would be that easy to find, you piddly adventurers, did you? SUCKERS!"

<That damn bastard! I'll rip his head off if I ever find him!!>

Catching yourself from the odd thought, you ponder slightly at where it might have come from...

Your focus is drawn down to the blue gem in the crown... Prodding it gently with your own consciousness, you sense disconnected pictures...

Something with cuboids of all sizes in parallel rows from each other...

Odd mostly pinkish colored creatures passing each other in the street...

Something your thoughts define as a 'school'...

A cocky elf woman picking up and adorning the blue gem embedded crown...

    A group of people...

"I'll go down first to see if anything's in there..."

    And then the fragments disappear.

    Hmm...
    This doesn't look right...
    But wait...
That entrance way in the distance...
    It looks familiar...

    BLOP

You blink again and discover you are closer to it...
Realization slowly dawning on you, it only takes a few more 'blops' to get to the entrance way, and one more to 'blop' out into a long expansive hallway that ends in the distance with a flight of stairs.

    This seems familiar.

Along the hallway, torches are lit and four doors on either side stand locked.

Three on one half of it, and three on the other half.
    Huh.

Bloping over to the next closest one, you do the same thing and slip in a tendril to look around.

The walls and floors of this room are far cleaner then the one you previously looked through, and various odd objects of all sorts are stacked on the shelves the reach up high into the ceiling.

    Curious.

A feeling that you tangentially understand surfaces within you, and as you pull the tentacle out of the door, you press into it....

As the surface of the door bubbles away under your acidic ooze, you distinctly 'hear' a muffled voice in the background coming from the other side.

The problem with time-lapsing is that we tend to use it to "fast forward" and force the OP to give us new stuff. Like in Dragon Quest, if there's nothing nifty going on right now, we'll go for a timeskip instead of having a cool adventure like we did in the early threads.

Let's check the rooms and devour any organic matter. Books included, unless we're somehow able to learn spellcraft.

I told you what I meant. It's like OP is going, at least a little too much:No, we can't do action x and action y that much because we have to move the story along, which is unnecessary when you can speed time up some.

But how can a bagpipe eat?
Probably best left to the imagination of crazed wizards, then.
Let us leave this room, and explore the remaining 2.

Keep a look out for Rubix Von Charles-Collins Cubington and Mr. Tulip around the this same time.

Are you the same guy that did the interspecies family quest, OP? You both are ending at the same time, it's strange.

Either way, awesome thread and I hope I'm online when the next one is made.

Actually no... This is the first and only quest thread I've made...
(Though I've had this idea bubbling in my head for a long time and I've participated in many quest threads here on /tg/)

I've been focused on this one that I haven't seen what else was happening in /tg/.

I'm glad you guys like this!
If you have any ideas on what you would like to see next, I'll be happy to hear them before I log off.

So long as you can introduce characters as colorful as Mr. Tulip, anything you do will be awesome. In fact, since you're planning on continuing this I took the liberty to archive this thread.
