Basically, the way combat works is everyone rolls dice, and whoever has the single highest number kills the other guy. No one dies on a tie. If you are behind or beside a guy, you don't get to kill, only turn to face if you win, and you can't use special weapons other than the storm shield (but not the thunder hammer, just the shield).
genestealers roll 3 dice. Termies roll 1.
The power fist gets +1 to attacks. The sergeant's sword adds 1 to all it's dice rolls, AND forces the genestealer to reroll his highest single dice, but only works to the front.
The thunder hammer adds 2, and the storm shield, if I can recall, reduces the number of genestealer dice to 2? (though it may be rerolsl the highest dice.) It is generally accepted to be underpowered and inferior to lightning claws in previous space hulk editions, which is what alien assualt is almost certainly copying, as it predates the new space hulk.
The lightning claws roll two dice, adding 2 to each. They are generally considered the "good" weapons.
This is from memory, I might be wrong. But generally, you will almost always lose a power fist duel, frequently lose a power sword duel, rarely lose a lightning claw duel (Significantly less than 10% of the time), and should never take thunder hammers if you aren't forced to.
But yeah. The entire point is that terminators die in close combat... unless you get to pick your own loadout, in which case you can often just take 8 lightning claw marines and 2 flamers, and go to town. Though that works less well on really long missions, where bad luck will start losing you marines over time. |
