    1.16 MB Totemist Quest IV (Part 2) Diarca !!rV8GTu4cyt+ 05/24/11(Tue)04:23 No.15033220
The next few hours pass in a blur. Elana retrieves your pack and your Foci from your workshop from you, accompanied by Amal. The pair return with an armful of your master's notes and a few books. Tryd warms himself in the fire, his ordinarily black body streaked through with lines of glowing red and yellow.

You spend the rest of the in bed, studying your master's notes on the village, the regions around, and the forces animating Bone Wardens. You manage to convince the Healer to allow you to unbind your Crystal Focus, an event that elicits gasps from the beds immediately around you. Amal cannot lift the heavy mace on his own, so Elana goes to return it for you. The healer's medicine works its customary wonders, and you fall into a peaceful sleep feeling much better than you did when you awoke.

    >Walther wouldn't dare speak a word against us in public at that point.
We embarrassed him in front of a small group.

I'll bet he's talking shit about us right now.

We'll do all that and more, but we:
    1) Need all those patients to LIVE. There's a fever on. We need to gather herbs and support the healer.
    2) Need the warriors' respect to last and outdo Walther's reputation poisoning. We should ASK Pierce and the others for advice on a training regimen and train with them.
    3) Need the kids and villagers to know we're fair as well as approachable. We can't play favorites with our sister.

Incidentally, the Smith might mention us to others too.

We should ask the guy from the General Store if he knows of any other settlements or outsiders who trade with him, and we should go for a stealth focus next. A Raptor or snake will provide one, if I remember right - and they're easy to take down.

Glad we got that taken care of. Being Thor was fun, but a little impractical, given we had to have our speed on at the same time to not get fucked up too.

Let's see what those notes on bone wardens has to say about our new friend.

well, we need to wake our asses up, I just realized something, Editor does have a point though with our training regim needing to be upped. We need to be able to run marathons if we are going to use Magnus Modi. Repeatedly using him is probably having a negative effect on our body because of wear and tear, we should probably take a week break from hunting and work out a better daily training that won't interfere with our daily work that needs to be done. Also, freaking get our blacksmith friend to start working on a weapon and new armor for us. I'm thinking of using that skull as a pauldron to possibly enhance our speed or possibly our stamina. Any objections?
    >> Diarca !!rV8GTu4cyt+ 05/24/11(Tue)04:32 No.15033275
When day breaks, you feel strong enough to get out of bed without assistance. It's been a long couple of days, and you could very likely do with a hot bath to sooth your sore muscles and wipe some of the grime that your body has accumulated through two harsh battles. After that, the town is yours to do with what you will: you can mingle with the townsfolk, experiment privately or openly with your new Foci, or do whatever else strikes you as suitable for the Totemist.

Magus' opinion is not wrong, and at the same time, both of your opinions also have the same goal and takes similar course of actions.

Let's raise up the respect around here a bit, shall we?

    >>15033130
    Indeed, we done good.
Maybe just the miser and completionist in me. A behemoth totem, though not as good as a spirit we bound ourself...

Well, whatever. We can take a look at that site sooner or later. Might still be some scales or bones to make totems of.

    Carry on, carry on.

    >>15033275
Sit down and have a chat with our assembled spirits. Maybe not Magnis modi, he's a bit difficult. But Amal, Tryd, and the two new guys. want to see if Amal's disposition has improved. I also want to see if the two new guys have anything to say now, or if amal has any concerns/desires. They may be our servants, but a happy servant is a productive one. Learn about Bone Warden from our Master's notes. THEN experiment on the focus we get.

I hope it is not a sapient/sentient spirit. It'd go all doom and gloom, or worse, rip and tear, whenever we talk to or use it.

Well once we get some rest and are up and capable we'll want to bind the Bone Warden to something and I personally would like to see what would happen if we rebound the Turtle to something else. I find the Lightning Mace useful but rather single purpose, loud and limited in practical application not to mention the collateral damage is causes to us. I'd like to see if we can get a gauntlet and bind it there. My preference for the Bone Warden would be something that gets it some of it's speed. Either Boots of an Amulet are good possibilities.
    >> Gloquenteentleman !yVrZbEGJ8A 05/24/11(Tue)04:41 No.15033333
The armor I was thinking about was actually something similar to a set of light splint mail, using the bones from the fallen drake as the "splints" in the mail but since we want it light, just use the hide from the turtle itself, not hte shell, otherwise we might be a bit too slow, or hell, we could get two sets, considering the size of the damned thing. Perhaps the skull will either make it feel a part of us and make it lighter, or make it so that it mends easily, either way, experimenting is in order once we've learned a little bit about it.

You see the color drain from the world around you, but deliberation is something that you are long past; your know your prize. [ Notes of Ayren Overwake, Totemist: BONE WARDENS

Ah, yes. The terror of the Ikrin Peaks. Bone Wardens seem to be animated by one of two phenomenon: Either a place of great tragedy naturally accumulates enough spiritual presence to give birth to one (or more), or a confused, enraged Avatar slips into a corpse and begins taking apart everything it can find. The latter tend to be more dangerous than the former, since they tend to be Avatars of things such as Gluttony, Avarice, or Hunger.

Wardens can incorporate any bone they find, whether whole or broken, into their structure. The magic that animates them also binds them together, as they don't seem to have any process for attaching new appendages to themselves; they just press and stick. They don't seem to pay much mind to flesh hanging off of the bones they assimilate, and it all rots off in the end.

Wardens are some of the fastest creatures I've ever encountered, outside of unruly Behemoths. They strike constantly, untiringly, and with the speed of a fired arrow. Overall, an increasingly powerful threat.]

    >> Gloquenteentleman !yVrZbEGJ8A 05/24/11(Tue)04:56 No.15033418
    To do list:

    Bath
    Commune with spirits
Go to Blacksmith to get shit commissioned, the sooner the better
    Training Regime
Experiment before the day is out, nothing too risky, so that we don't damage either of the foci.

For further overarching agendas. I say we go cut down the turtle population, none of them should be as difficult to take down as the eldest, and it should bring in a crapton of supplies so that we can also start setting the village to be in a good position if we decide to trek out for a long time for exploring. Also, additional foci to bind to our current one to make it stronger. Possibly putting it on par with our Magnus Modi. Also, it will allow us to experiment more.

You scratch the back of your head, looking around the Healer's. It seems you are the first one to awaken. You grab your pack from beside you bed, pack your books into it, and head out the door. You know that you have a change of clothes at the workshop, and you want to deposit your gear so you don't have to carry it around with you.

After dropping everything but Amal and Tryd's Foci in the workshop, you head for the bath-house. This early in the morning, you're the only one in the building. The water is soothing on your aching muscles, and you find yourself reclining the the hot water. The bathhouse was one of the products of your mentor's many experiments. A bound totem beneath the floor heats the water above to the perfect temperature, and a clever system of floodgates allows the bath to be drained at the end of each day. It has to be filled by hand at dawn every morning, but it's a better solution than bathing in the river.

    And this too.

Regarding Bone Warden, a speed-type Focus seems best. An amulet, or a a pair of boots. We could also tie it to a bow, and fire arrows rapidly, I think.
Nevertheless, I think we can get a weaker version of Modi Magni Focus, and it should be our primary speed+reaction boost for the time being unless in dire circumstances.
We just don't have the body to withstand prolonged use of Modi Magni's Focus.

    Regarding lightning bow...
Not really my vote for Rock Turtle, but if I am outvoted, and if we really in dire need of a ranged weapon, we can bind it to a bow.

Never really made clear where I want the lightning focus, however, I'd say that for now, a gauntlet would be good for when we go to thin out the turtle population later if anyone agrees with my extended plans.

    >Osyki grabs the horn of the turtle with his cyan colored gauntlet. Seeming glowing, when the turtle tries to launch more electricity, it absorbs the lightning and sends it down deep into the turtle, paralyzing or otherwise, frying it's brain.

After some scrubbing and a nice soak, you feel like a new man. You towel yourself off with a length of cloth hanging by the pool and put on your fresh clothing. It's time to make an impact on this village. You wont let your master down.

You head straight back to your workshop, unlocking the door and slipping inside. Your Foci lay waiting for you on the workbench; your silent Turtle Crystal gleams in the morning sunlight, and the cracked skull of the bone warden beckons. You pick up the latter, calling to the spirit within the ivory shell.

A ripple forms in the air in front of you, shortly followed by a sudden manifestation. A woman, thin enough to be a skeleton garbed in flesh, shimmers into view in front of your workbench. Her clothes are ill-fitting, and she seems to have been crying recently, judging by the shade of her eyes.

It would seem that this particular Warden was one born of a tragedy. In light of that, a question occurs to you.

"What happened?" you ask simply. The woman looks at you in surprise, eyes wide.

"They came in the night. Horrible things of scales and claws. Their weapons carved through our armor, our defenses, our hearts, like they didn't exist."

Going to bed guys, try not to blow anything up while experimenting. Also, no one has said anything about the extended plans, we have to start planning ahead, this compulsiveness isn't going to allow us to last and we have responsibilities. Not to mention if we want to be able to go out and further our skills and testing our mettle, we have to make sure the village is well prepared for our absence if that is the case. The first step is to start stocking up. The turtle we fought was as large as a house, possibly larger, and obviously the eldest. The others should by no means give us as much trouble, but by no chance should we let our guard down. I think it is possible we should go and take one out every other day till that nest is cleared so that the village has a large stockpile of supplies and perhaps we can up our slayers armory with the plates of the turtles. Not to mention if we do it ritually with each one of the special kind, we will have foci to bind to the large original one to give it additional power, this might, again, put it on par with Modus Magni's benefits for whatever we bind the final thing to.

Totems can be crafted from the parts of any dead animal or entity. Depending on the entity, the part, and the ritual used, Totems can be used to create a near limitless variety of small, useful effects. The bathhouse previously mentioned has a totem beneath the floor that heats any water put above it, and the walls of the village contain minor protection totems spaced every so often along the inner lining to keep out unwanted lesser spirits.

You grab your pack, placing your Foci within it, and head out the door. The Blacksmith's shop is quiet at this time of morning, though you can see the shape of the man moving around inside from the window. You knock on the door, and for once you are promptly answered by the mustachioed man.

I think we should go with a full chainmail, for the following reasons:
    - Relatively Light
    - Concealable (under clothing)
    - Relatively easy to make

Then, can bind what ever we want in to it, though seeing that the bone thing could give us speed, it's recommend that. Then again, the rock turtle could give use huge stamina and endurance. Difficult choice.

    I'd recommend the following:
    - Bone spirit > Boot for Speed
    - Turtle spirit > Armor for endurance

There's a whole library, where do you want to start? Let's be specific and bear in mind that 1) we read some last night and 2) we have an introductory volume from back in threat 1 that we may not have finished.
    >>15033904
    To do list previously included:
    -Blacksmith,
    -Training regimen discussion with PEIRCE,
-Talk to those kids and your sister,
    -Pick flowers,
    and
-Experiment before the day is out, nothing too risky, so that we don't damage either of the foci.

    We're adding:
    -Scouting work

    I second that.

Okay, then we should find an animal with high endurance.... maybe a rock turtle again?

But we should bind the focus into an armor

That's an argument for ranged combat, which I agree with.

People keep saying that the lightning-shootung thing on a melee weapon already gave us ranged striking power.

Why is ranged striking power on a bow better than ranged striking power on a mace?

Also, we may not be good with ranged weapons, let's ask.

OP, are we good with ranged weapons?

Lightning gauntlet channeling to held weapon is a hypothesis. Making it also shoot lightning is also another hypothesis. Can we try it out first, at the very least, before closing off all avenue?

It is not like binding a focus to an item take more than minutes, nor is it as exhaustive or risky as a Feral Binding.

Guys. We've lost track of something.

We're at the blacksmith. What are we buying?

    And how are we paying?

We'll be able to test things out in multiple configurations, never fear.

I SUGGEST A LIST OF THINGS TO TRY WITH EACH TOTEM/FOCUS.

IN TERMS OF GOALS AND OBJECTS TO BIND IT TO:

    Rock turtle focus:
    -Armor
    -Bow/ranged
    -Gauntlet
    -Staff
    -Endurance?

    Bone Warden Totem:
    -Speed
    -Armor
    -Regen
    -Weapons

    Chainmail and scroll cases

Payment isn't really a problem, the village bascially supports us because we provide vital service to them. Tossing another gemstone at the guy would work too.

As far as I can tell we're buying a Gauntlet and something that exemplifies fast, probably boots. We're paying through being the Totemist and having just taken out a giant Rock Turtle and Bone Warden and their raw materials are now usable by the town.

    >>15033904 says:
    We commission the following:
    - Gauntlet (for crystal)
    - Chainmail (future rock shell)
    - Boots (for bone)
    - Map container
    - Foci container
    - Crossbow/Longbow/ranged weapon we have experience with
    - Staff?

Commission a light armor, that does not constrict movement or agility. Possibly with a buckler or heavy bracers. Reinforced or ornamented with rock turtle shells.
A bow and quiver set, with arrows.
    Gauntlets. +shrugs+
Boots with Bone Warden parts incorporated.
Some manner of bashing weapon too, I might add.

We already paid in front, by killing off that Rock Turtle and Bone Warden. :p

Domesticate massive man-eating turtles? Now there's an idea. We could take a lot of strain off of ourselves and the other village defenders if we had something like that to pick up the slack. Hell, even just using it to plow a field would be great.
