    213 KB Koyani Quest Pt. 4 Katsi !9UacgIKB5g 05/21/11(Sat)14:23 No.15003212
I apologize for my lateness. My computer and email account was hacked recently, and I've spent most of the morning sorting things out. Should be good now.

You've made your way into the dungeons of Castle Veridia to free Bishop Avarius from the Kef. Within the dungeon, you've found three patrols of two Heavy Kef each, another pair of Heavy Kef each guarding the stairs up and a cell that presumably contains the Bishop, and an Elite Kef also guarding the cell. Vehsrik, the Koyani who served as your guide through the wilderness and as a distraction in town, has just been brought in and unceremoniously dumped in an unoccupied cell.

Okay, we probably should have gone to the village to build up Torment first, but we're here now.

We know the patrol routes of the Kef; do we know a spell that can deaden sound? Such that we could use it to sneak up behind a patrol, fight and kill them, without alerting the others?

That's...Actually a good question. I'm not sure, so I'm going to say sound manipulation falls under Evocation, and stopping all sound in an area for a minute (ish) requires two Torment.

Using our knowledge of the layout of the dungeon, and of the patrol route, set up an ambush.
Do the guards patrol side-by-side, or one behind the other?
Stopping sound, we should be able to immediately kill one Kef, and then hopefully incapacitate the other to get some Torment back.

Set up the ambush in a place where we can dispose of the bodies, so that the following patrols won't raise an alarm.

But these Kef are wearing plate rather than mail. Can our sword even penetrate their armor?
Will we need to spend Torment to make our sword stronger and able to slide through their plate?

You transmuted your sword into a masterwork weapon of finest steel quite some time ago.

    >>15003380

You stand just around a corner and prepare the deafening field as you hear the next patrol draw near. As they round the bend, their eyes widen at the sight of you and the sudden, eerie silence as they enter the field. You get the drop on the Kef, but you're barely able to scratch them through their heavy plate armor. Fortunately, your own brilliant swordsmanship prevents them from doing any worse to you.

Their swords gleaming, yours pitch black, the three of you perform a silent and deadly dance within the field. When they see that their calls for reinforcements cannot even make it past their own mouths, one of them turns to flee. Your razor sharp, blackened blade carves through his armor as you run him through, but the other is able to land a glancing blow on your arm while your sword is still embedded in his comrades' back.

Then we need to free Vehsrik.

Extra combat hands would be good.

We should ask him to let us torture him (without killing) to build up 2 torment (Ophelias compassion should boost us). Then we will heal him so that he is combat ready.

    Would that work?

Of course, torture him in the deaf field (or would it be gone by that time?)

Well, we could try different things like eating his face while he's alive, so that the last thing he sees is descending white teeth.
Or we could, while he's paralyzed, spit him like a pig upon a sword.

When we get enough prisoners, we need to make a forest of impaled victims.

Both of these would be equally difficult.

    >>15003520

Paralysis requires direct contact with the skin (or with metal/water touching the skin, but the Kef have padding). Since these Kef are almost completely covered, this would be very difficult.

    So how's this:
We transmute the remaining Kef's armor into a single unmoving piece, and then rip out his tongue. Then we bring both bodies to a side-room, where we castrate the still-living Kef, then disembowel him so he can see his intestines spill out. Hopefully that will make back most if not all of the Torment we've used.

The Kef takes another swing at you. Deftly ducking under, you grab him by the wrist and transmute his armor into a single solid piece. You search him and find the keys, opening one of the heavy wooden doors into an unoccupied cell. As you're dragging the dead Kef's corpse in, you can hear faint cries for help coming from the still living Kef...The deafening field has begun to wear off!

Moving quickly, you pull out a dagger, open the Kef's visor, and before he can think to shut his mouth, you shove the dagger inside and cut his tongue out. You drag him back inside, and can hear the sound of booted feet approaching, as well as the muted screams of pain coming from the Kef. You cut off a strip of your cloak and gag the Kef with it, placing your hand over his mouth to cut off the sound completely. Dragging the dead and living Kef out of the view of the barred window cut into the door, you wait until the next patrol comes and goes. "Did you hear something?" one of them asks as they approach. "No, did you?" the other asks. The first pauses for a moment, and then says "I must be hearing things." Then the two move on. Apparently they didn't notice the blood you'd left on the floor.

You've gained back one Torment from tearing out the Kef's tongue. At the back of your mind, you can hear Ophelia sobbing and repeating her mantras to herself over and over again, but her will to obey you is beginning to slip. Sifting through her memories, you can see her horrified by what you've done to the Kef, and by what you're planning on doing, and bubbling with guilt and self-loathing for having such thoughts for the people who've so relentlessly pursued the extermination of her own. Her rising compassion may become troublesome if it's allowed to get out of hand, but for now you've earned another three Torment from her suffering.

    Back to stealthan games.

Again, being slow and cautious, avoid guards at all costs and got a cell to free Vehsrik.
Then bring him to this cell so that he can get the guards arms and armor.

if the armor is too heavy for him, transmute it into a masterwork armor made out of lighter material but still has the same defense (if not better)

Use 1 Torment to heal ourselves, and now, it's time for this Kef to feel our wrath.
It's too bad it'll have to be quick, but it can't be helped. We need to cause as much torment and suffering as quickly as possible. And keep the Kef gagged; we don't want to use up more Torment than we have to erecting another silence field.

Oh, idea: Take the armor of the two Kef guards to make one complete suit for ourselves. It should provide us more protection, and help us as a disguise.
    >> Katsi !9UacgIKB5g 05/21/11(Sat)16:07 No.15003886
    >>15003774

Slim on time, you strip the Kef of his armor, stab him through the gut, and give your sword a sharp twist. You wait a few minutes until his gurgling screams into the gag have quieted enough that you can remove your hand from his mouth. Without a tongue, he probably couldn't force the gag from his mouth anyway, but better safe than sorry.

You heal yourself, the familiar feeling of sudden and total blood clotting followed by the odd sensation of your skin stitching itself back together. At least this time there were no bones to be snapped back into place.

The guards have noticed that two of their comrades are missing, apparently, because the patrols have been switched up. Though it takes several minutes of ducking around corners, you're able to crack the new pattern.

As the door to his cell opens, Veshrik looks up to you with a confused mixture of fear and hope. He's not sure if you're here to save him or punish him for his failure in being captured. Or both. Regardless, reinforcements will likely arrive soon if the guards suspect you were the one who disappeared the patrol, and really, who else would it be?

Is Vehsrik any good with the plate armor and sword we took from the dead guards?
I think we should heal Vehsrik, get him kitted up, and use one of the dead bodies to take his place in the cell.

Here's the plan I've got: we stealthly hunt down and kill each pair of patrollers, then we kill the ones guarding the bishop. We make our escape via the secret shaft.

You undo Veshrik's manacles and explain your plan to him: You're going to dress him in armor from the other cell and then ambush and kill the last two guard patrols using a deafening field spell. Then the two of you will attack the guards on the Bishop's cell and escape the castle through a hidden passage you've found. Can he fight in heavy armor? "Well enough, Lord of Shadow."

As you're heading back to the cell, one of the patrols, having changed (or broken) the pattern, surprises you, but before they can recover from their shock, you cast a deafening field spell, and all sound is muted. Veshrik is unarmed and can do nothing, but you draw your sword and attack! Your sword is quick and true, and soon one of the Kef is all but dead, but they've gashed open your arm and leg. Veshrik, seeing the battle going poorly, tries to distract one of the Kef. Landing an incredibly lucky blow, he's able to knock the Kef around. The Kef retaliates, ripping a huge but fortunately shallow cut across his chest. Shallow or not, Veshrik is bleeding badly.

You finish off one of the Kef, while Veshrik's luck holds and he's able to deal another ringing blow to his fully armored enemy, and this time dodge the retaliatory strike.

Anyway, if we have killed one, he should have dropped his weapon. Kick it in direction to Vehsrik. This time work as a pair and pincer him. Have Vehsrik go on defensive while we try to subdue him.

Actually. Lets transmute his armor too. And torture him like the guy before. We might get 3 torment again.

You try to grab the Kef's armor to transmtue it, but it swats your hand away with his sword and swings his blade at your head. You duck under it, and Veshrik stabs his sword in between two fo the Kef's plates. It's a light cut, but it gives you the opening you need to grab the Kef by his armored throat and fuse the armor closed again. Once again, you tear out his tongue, gag him, and drag him and the corpse into a nearby cell. Unfortunately, Ophelia's been able to calm her nerves and you aren't able to harvest any Torment from her, however you do get another two from disemboweling the Kef.

Seeing no reason to go back to the old cell and transmute the armor so that its joints will unlock when you could just use the armor from the new Kef, you disguise Veshrik.

Oh, my. You've suffered a bout of atrocious luck.

You're able to sneak up on the last patrol, cast your deafening field, and ambush them. Though you're able to cut deep into one Kef's shoulder with your sword, Veshrik isn't so lucky, and his sword slides off the Kef's plate armor. The Kef turns around and stabs him through the throat, while you attempt to batter your Kef unconscious. Ultimately, you succeed, but not before it cuts deep into your thigh, and the other leaves a similar wound on your arm. Your wounds are piling up heavily, now, and you've still one Kef, completely healthy, to deal with. And no Torment left. You could turn and flee or try to kill the Kef. Either way, you're very much dependent on luck to save you now. That, or some incredibly brilliant ploy the likes of which I certainly can't fathom.

You climb back up to the second floor and step out of the hidden passage. As before, you make sure to close it tightly, such that not a trace of it can be seen from the outside. Creeping through the hallway, you dodge patrols. There don't seem to be as many. Most of them have probably gone downstairs to search for you, which is fortunate.

Nonetheless, you find a single Kef guard in chainmail guarding the window you came in through. It does stick out a bit as a point of entry. He spots you, but though you are injured, you're fast enough and he close enough that you can try to kill him before he can sound an alarm (this will require a fairly high damage roll, plus you'll have to win the combat roll).

You raise your sword to strike the Kef, but your weary and wounded body fails you. He parries the blow, and slips his own blade in between the cracks of your armor. The cut is small, almost not worth mentioning, but with your body already bleeding badly, it's all that's needed to finish you off.

You slide back against the wall, and already you can feel yourself being pulled downwards. Yours and Ophelia's minds are being pulled apart. Your body (or rather, her body) bubbles and boils and shrinks down to its original five and a half feet, the horns growing to tiny nubs, Ophelia's features replacing your own.

As your mind is ripped from hers, the last thoughts you hear and see are the images of the end of the Koyani people, of her own family, a memory of her stubborn defiance of your will in the shaft. And this is her glorious destiny as the vessel for Ashtoreth's Chosen.

"I'm sorry," she mutters, staring up at the Kef, "This is all my fault." And then the lights leave her eyes. Perhaps the gods know where the souls of mortals end when their bodies are slain. But you don't.

And it's of no particular concern for you now, as you're pulled downwards into the pit that spawned you. The further you're pulled from the Material Plane, the less solid things become, until you enter a world where matter is so thin that souls seem solid by comparison, and those who still retain the centuries old bodies of their tormented hosts have unfathomable power.

    You have returned to Hell.

The ground shifts below you, and the floor begins to rise. You pass through the ceiling, evidently an illusion, and into a cage of hellforged steel in a courtroom. Several noble demons have arrived already, as well as the judge. You recognize none of them. A few of your old memories have begun to return, however, and the trial won't start until Ashtoreth arrives. Maybe by then you can remember something that will help you avoid being locked in some Baron's Torment Engine for the rest of eternity.

Very well. Your combat has been reduced from 3 to 2. More nobles are beginning to arrive. Ashtoreth always did like to be the last one to the party.

There was more to your rivalry than just your bitterness. There was more...A great war, and you and he fighting on separate sides. In fact, you'd chosen the one side just to have a chance at being the one to defeat him. But you weren't alone, there were others...Yes, a Demonic Compact you were once a part of, before it was torn apart by infighting. Compacts usually are. Surprisingly, Demons are not listed high on the list of trustworthy and agreeable people.

Try to remember one of those four other Demons, surely one of them could vouch for you? The first one, the one with whom you'd started the Compact at the beginning of the war...

    Alacaluf
    Envy

You had helped him to get better standing indemonic society so he felt he needed to help you (eh, I am bad at this, fill the holes as you see fit)

    Name: Vual
    Sin: Greed
Reason for support: "We made a great team, Tron!"
Essentially, working together the two of us made a great team and rose up through the ranks of demon society. We didn't particularly like each other, but our powers worked well together.

Hey, the first thread wasn't so bad. Other stuff kept me away from participating again till now.
And what I find is unmitigated failure.

Looks like OP left a way for us to redeem ourself so there is still a chance we can continue

No, I meant it as a comment on our apparent failures.

I am aware of the significance of our name.

well, thats good then, and maybe this time, if we DO redeem ourselves, we wont be Herp, the dark lord of Derp, and we'll play it smart as a shadowy wrath demon
