Looking out before you, you can see the ruined devastation that used to be a temple of Degarth. Madral slowly sinks to his knees and bows his head, his words lost in the wind. Looking back to the temple, you try and take stock of the situation. Originally coming here with the plan to use the ruins as a headquarters for your revolution, you revise that thought. In order for the temple to be a defensible place, or even a shelter away from the elements, it will need a lot of work.

The large building is easily 12 feet tall, and even in decay is a testament to the god. What used to be sheenly polished marble though, is now overtaken by vines and vegetation. Some of the columns have fallen, and a part of the ceiling has caved in. The statue of Dergath that looked to stand in the middle of the temple, is now just a set of legs. The rest strewn about on the floor

The elf that led you here, approaches Madral and tries to soothe him, but to know avail. He looks pale and unresponsive. Mhail and John, draw you aside to speak without the group hearing.

“This is not the defencible place we seek James, If the Dukes soldiers find us here, we will only find another hard fought battle.” Mhail tells you,

“This place is filled with evil. I can feel it in my bones, some horrible act must have occured here to desecrate a temple so.” Comments John. “I recommend we leave.”

Looking back to the statue of Degarth, the voices in your head make themselves heard. One with malicious laughter, and one with bitterness and regret.
    >Hahahahahahahahahahahaa
    >How could it have come to this?

You are James courtland, a self freed slave of a tyranical duke, with powers given to you by a goddess of gambling and strife.
    And you may be insane.

    >wat do?
    >Some actions will require a roll of a dice, but only if asked before hand.

Then we will make it right.

We were charged with bringing change to this land. This place seems a good place to start. We will change it into a symbol of freedom, through our sweat and our toil, and possibly (most likely) our blood. But through our work we will change this darkness that had befallen this place into something brighter.

“Then we will make it right!” You tell the young paladin. He looks upon you with a mixture of respect and hesitation, before bowing his head.

“It will be as you say my lord.”

Walking over to Madral you gently lay a hand on the old clerics shoulders. “John tells me that this place is tainted with evil, can you feel it as well?”

Madral looks to you and nods, his eyeless sockets seemingly boring into your soul. He speaks with anger barely held in check. “Aye, I can feel it. It is like a black oil covering the surface.” pushing himself up, with your help, he gazes at the broken statue of Degarth. “I could re - sanctify it with Degarths blessing, but he does not speak to me.” He sounds bitter “I know not what to do.”

"Speak the words anyways. They will bolster our morale as we start our work, and hopefully appease Degrath, even if we does not directly say so.

If his blessing will not drive out the evil, the will of our people will transform this place regardless. Have a little faith."

    >we does not

That should be "he does not", sorry.

He smiles upon hearing your words and appears more resolute. “I do have faith.” He begins chanting.“Oh healing lord, I your humble servent beseech you. Let your radience shine down from the sky and grace this place that would be a mortal home for one such as you. Drive away the darkness that cloud the senses and let us remain humble as you are. Let this place become a haven for the lost, the sick, and the downtrodden in their hour of need.”

Walking the perimeter of the temple, he repeats this prayer over and over again. Many of your group, and even the hipp- elf's companions, stand in silence.
    You watch in interest, bu
t alas, as he finishes his route nothing happens. In your head you can hear the familiar voice of the woman weeping, but this time it sounds as if a multitude have joined in. But as if to cut them off, that same voice laughs at their sorrow.

John looks to Madral and salutes him, his sword glowing. “As a knight of the eagle, I swear to you that I will find the evil of this temple and drive it out.”

You hear the same laughing, but this time it seems to be on the wind and not in your mind. A black sillouhete materializes on the ground in the shape of a dark circle, similar to the one branded upon your hand.

“Foolish mortal, Misjal and Degarth no longer hold sway here. Leave now before I decide to consume you.”

Sadistic laughter fills both the temple and the confines of your own mind. Clamping your hands to your ears you see that this time, it’s not just you. Oddly relieving.

“This puny temple stands as a testament to the strength of Artarion!” The shadow circle on the ground rises to resemble a skull. The empty eye sockets seem to draw the light into them. “But it seems that one of the faithful is already here!” laughing some more he points to the black circle on your own hand. “What brings you to this place apostle?”

Many of your companions look at you with shock.

...Somehow that doesn't make me feel any better about our situation.

As is being demonstrated currently, some of the gods also happen to be colossal dicks.

“You have an ability only given to those in favor by Lord Artarion himself, and you do not know what it is? Surely you jest!” He laughs, but the laughter cuts off. The black skull squints at you, “No, you do not jest. You also hold the lightning bolt of Leashan, an avowed enemy of the Dark Lord Artarion.” The skull floats higher and higher as it pulls itself out of the shadow circle on the ground. Soon a Dark skeletal giant seeming composed of nothing but void and shadows stands before you. “SPEAK MORTAL, HOW CAME YOU WITH SUCH A GIFT, YOU WHO DO NOT KNOW WHAT IT IS THAT YOU CARY!!”

John pushes you out of the way as a skeletal arm comes crashing down. Where stone, vegetation, and masonry used to be only emptiness remains.

In the crater, you can see john kneeling under the onslaught. The only thing separating him from destruction is a blindingly white shield that seems to be composed of light itself. You don't remember John carrying a shield on the journey here.

“Foolish, I have already told you that Misjal holds no sway here! begone pest.” a sweep of the skeletal hand sends the young paladin flying into a nearby pillar, where he slumps to the ground seemingly unconscious.

If it is from the enemy of this beast's master, let us see how it likes a taste of it!
Yell out "Help John!" and trust one of the camp to see to it. Blast a bit of lightning at this monster's center and get ready to leap out of the way.

    rolled 7 = 7

(yeah, we are late. But use these for next thread)

    "Shut up, demon!
I neither servant of servant of Leashan or Artarion.
And the knowledge of my gift will stay with me!"
Zap him with your lightening, if those are enemies of each other then or lightening should work against him.
Charge your sword and go into melee, we will fight alongside with John.

    Talk to skull
"I suppose Artarion hasn't spoke to you for a long time either?"
