    5 KB Molluskquest from Aether !GuYmUwz4mI 05/15/11(Sun)15:20 No.14936698
    I would like to keep this as simple as possible. I was going to have you roll for your duties, but let's just try this free-form;

    Welcome to mollusk quest! The sprite-based evolution game. We find ourselves in a time of great potential. A single life-form has come to be. It is little more than pure genetic code. Your job is to add complexity to this creature, and his surroundings. Here are the rules;

    1) save pic related and cut out the text. Then add eyes, antennae, color, shell, claws, legs, anything to the slug. You may also choose to create a predator/prey for him, though this requires making a new sprite.

    2) create a fluff for the new creature. What benefits does the new adaptation hold? What are the draw-backs? Splinter-creatures will happen and are encouraged (for example someone might add eyes and fins to the slug and another might add antennae and claws - their interactions with eachother should be noted).

    3) baby steps. Let's try to add a little at a time. After all this is a process of evolution.

    4) save your files as .PNG to make it easier for others to edit.

The Slugs current environment is a damp cave with a small pond. There appears to be no other creatures and just a small amount of food.

not wanting to make big leaps with the evolution I suggest we either make the little guy faster or with some kind of shell to protect him if we ever venture outside the cave.

While I love the idea of this, I have no experience with making sprites.

    Like this?

A shiny black protrusion on the head of the slug provides coloration to attract mates, and some protection against falling or falling objects. The protrusion makes his profile larger, and thus harder to hide and fit into tight spaces.

This particular breed is noted for its social prowess, and other slugs can be seen congregating around it.

The evil slug is an evolutionary step forward from the dapper slug, in that combined with the dark protrusion on it's head it has developed hair like tendrils. When other, more primitive slugs, gather towards it due to it's head protrusion it uses it's tendril to choke and then feed on the victim slugs.

And thus the first great division in evolutionary lines was discovered. The quite-classy line of slugs tended to gather in groups of 10-15, and seemed to regard the patterns of broken sticks as though an art form.

The evil slugs tended to be loners, and would prey upon the quite-classy slugs at night, making off with one of their number. A terrifying prospect, surely.

As is the way of evolution, only the most fit survived, and the most fit were those who could combat the evil slugs at their own game. With their own hairy protrusions, the newly-coined gentleman slugs were capable of engaging evil slugs in protracted "mustache" combat, sometimes lasting upwards of half an hour, until one slug was able to gain a chokehold or both got too tired to continue.

As some of the hipsterslugs began thinking highly of themselves a mouth formed. The developed strange speech patterns and sold-out. They became so Ironic that they weren't and so un-ironic that they were Ironic. This paradox drove them mad and they began feasting on eachother. They now roam around gorging on hipserslugs with strange saying like "you've probably never heard of me". Unlike they hipster slugs, they do not venture 'underground'.

And thus, the paradox-slug was born.

I guess it Opens its beak, like a flower? Let's say it's aquatic and floats in the pond like a duck. It then comes to the edge of the pond and opens its beak. Some of the dapper and double-dapper slugs think it a flower, which they use for their distillation process. They are then consumed when they try to pluck it. Releasing and "oh, my!' with their last breath.

Remember these slugs are like the size of a penny. So that bird is what? A nickel?

Females of the species had developed a fluffy yellow brush of hair near their head, so that they could differentiate between sexes. (It would be quite difficult for them to reproduce if they both had mustaches and hats, after all.)

The evil slugs developed a very clever response. Since the gentlemen slugs had become harder to capture, evil slugs instead kidnapped female slugs, and then waited for gentlemen slugs to venture out in search of mates. The evil slugs would then attack the lone gentleman slug for food.

Unconfirmed reports state that evil slugs have been seen tying female slugs down with shed mustache hairs, often utilizing twigs to immobilize them.

A similar divergence that occurred with the dapper slug occurs in the evolutionary line of the damsel slug.

Slugs similar in appearance occurred, hair visibly showing it's gender. However when a male came to mate it would release a thin dark tongue that stores a noxious gas, paralysing the male where the slug can then devour it.

it was labelled the Femme Fatale slug.

here we can see what appears to be a mating ritual between a group of gentlemen slugs and a damsel slug. However, on closer inspection we see that the female is actually the lethal "femme-fatale" slug. The unfortunate male who thinks he's going to pass on his genes, will only end up passing on.

The mating rituals of the slugs are complex. First, the males gather amongst themselves and, at great length, perform feats of strength and creativity. Mustache-wrestling is common, and males will sometimes attempt to build a shelter out of twigs and grass so that their mating doesn't disturb passers-by. It is in such a hut that the femme-fatale will assassinate her target, and consume him whole.

Ironically (as the hipster derivative would call it) the victim's only hope is to be raided by a caped villain slug, for whom the femme-fatale would abandon her mark in order to actually procreate with what they feel are a superior subspecies.

It simply flies over the prey them and delivers an extremely deadly powder that burns them alive and leaves them immobile. Upon which uses its tentacles to move the immobile slug and devours it.

The train beetle is a beetle of marvellous bio-engineering. The slope at it's front is for shovelling dirt and stones for it's homes, it has a remarkable turn of speed.

As a defence mechanism it spreads a gas when it feels threatened, such as when the slugs utilize it. It is also a creature of great habit, predictable taking the same routes from it's home to it's food daily although while it always takes the same route it often oversleeps and takes the routes late.

A small orb of golden skin, concealable by the "cape" when needed to be, is used to attract prey to investigate it. Attached to this orb of skin is a rod of thick strong dead skin, used to clobber their foes.

This is the Superior Caped Villain Slug.

The so called 'Bro' Slug. It seems this species is a degeneration of the Dapper slug, although the only remnant of this is a thick black protective layer around the eyes.

It seems this species has largely given up on any pretense of style, class, or indeed, subtly. Rather, it prefers to spike Damsel slugs drinks with potent chemicals it secretes from the organ on its head. The green protective coating around its body seems to be a form of symbioses with a fungi, although the purpose of the 'collar's eludes scholars. One intern claimed that they 'Looked kind of cool'.

He has since been let go.

A new variation of the Powder Tangler named Spice Spitler has diverged not only in form and size but also in it's way of hunting. Gone is the powder and it replaced by an extremely irritating liquid that not only is used for hunting but for defensive purposes. It can control the spray ranging to a liquid stream to finer mist which is often used to irritate airways and eyes if skin contact prove not sensitive enough. It's odd eyes are more durable than the spindly eye stalks reducing injuries and protects it from it's own spray.

Jumjiyuub Tree. It produces a pleasant smelling and tasting fruit with an odd shape whose skin is soft yet tough and with gooey pudding like consitancy. Inside the fruit's reddish orange flesh are masses of seeds floating inside

After the evolution of predators, only more extreme variations survived. The most prevelant was a slug that developed mofied spikes usable for movement and a tail with a larger spike at the end. Although not aggressive towards other slugs, this supspecies is often isolated due to the potential for uninteded injuries.
