You are assuming that dwarf hair is made of the same thing as human hair. Dwarf hair is fireproof and tough enough to withstand most blows, to the point that a dwarf's beard serves as rudimentary armour and welding apron.

That would have to be a lot of facial hair. Trimmed mustache or beard offers no real advantage or disadvantage in a brawl, and absolutely matters not in a weapons based fight.
Frequent shaving can open skin to irritation/infection in some environments.
And "Real Life Warrior Races" aren't. Mongols often had facial hair, as did Scythians, Norsemen, Celts and Bactians. Many favouring stupidly long mustaches which could actually be grabbed in a fight.
The Romans, with their fetish for not being barbarians were clean shaven, and many modern armies use it as a method for enforcing homogeny, with the excuse that it effects how quickly/well one can don protective masks, and utter lies about hygene.

A female dwarf's beard is found lower on the body. What isn't commonly known, is that when a male dwarf is born, part of his mother's beard attaches to his face and becomes his beard.

Every Homebrew I've played in has had it slightly different in terms of Dwarves and their facial hair.

Some have it the more traditional, Men have beards all day-err day, and women don't. Others have had it wear not even men always have to have beards, but could easily grow them, as could women.

I think the most interesting though was a setting where the Dwarven society is matriarchal, and the matriarch of each clan had an obscenely large and detailed beard. Like, 4 to 6 feet long, braided, dyed, looped, bunned, what ever. It was a sign of opulence and wealth, a way to show how sophisticated and rich that particular clan was. The beard was attended to quite often by maidens, and was often not allowed to drag on the ground.

If I remember correctly, none of the other women in the clan were allowed to grow beards, unless they were either the clan matriarch, or an heir, and of course the heir's beards were only allowed to be so long, if they chose to grow them.

Anywho, I love beards on all dwarfs and I feel that we often get beardless lasses because we anthropomorphize our standards of beauty onto a decidedly un-human culture.

People only think of dwarven women as bearded because of their old custom of them having to cover their face and hair. A show of modesty and complement for the image of the industrious dwarf, avoiding vanity and vapidness. Folk tales and peasant rumours just transformed it into something else.

I've always wanted to play a dwarf who has views on hair like those held in ancient Egypt: The only thing better than a rocking head of hair is to be totally bald, so lets all shave off all of our hair and then invest in some truly awesome wigs. This lets dwarves craft up their beards in the smithy out of badass things like spun gold or dragonwool, which is kind of a natural fit when you think about it. Why leave something so important to your identity and social standing as a dwarf to the fickle whims of NATURE? That's shit that elves do.

Forging your first beard would be a sweet rite of manhood for young dwarves, and you could have dwarves that keep going on about naturally grown beards as being hopelessly barbaric. You can have dwarven warriors with beards made out of hair scalped off of their slain foes. You can have the GOLDEN BEARD OF THE UNDERKINGS, which has been passed down from father to son through the lines of dwarven nobility for hundreds of generations, over which clans have fought horrific blood-feud down to the last clan member.

If dwarves can spin a fetter for Fenrir out of cat footfalls and fish breath, I'm pretty sure dwarven women can weave beards out of orgasms and lighting. But I do agree on the 'lots of braiding' part, although most beads involve a good deal of braiding regardless of gender. Anything else is probably just too simple for the beardsmith to really have put any effort into his art, and richly made dwarven beards probably are highly impractical works of sculpture.

...So it's look something like this picture except it'd b a lot bigger, made out of spun mithril with adamantine spikes and beadwork menacing from it, depicting scenes from a dwarven poetic epic, complete with the great battles and deaths of heroes slaying hordes of orcs and fighting dragons for their hoards...

Female dwarves have the ability to grow beards but when outside of dwarven society they usually shave them off to avoid misunderstandings and the like. Any dwarf who says females dont have beards is either too embarrassed or is just trying to keep smoother relations with other races.

Dwarf female beards grow the same as dwarf males, but unlike the usual male full beard, female beards are generally more stylised and usually lacking a moustache, as pictured here: >>14854531 >>14854425 >>14854408

Plaits, braids and decorations appear in both male and female beards but females generally display thinner, more intricate decorations. This is more of a tradition than a rule.
