Yes they are Asian (with White Scars geneseed) and have domain over a subsector (similar to Ultramar) which contains a number of planets with varying levels of technology, one being pretty much exactly how you describe, which I believe in the subsector capital and another being a scifi version of WWII-era Japan (an IG regiment called the Ashigaru comes from there and often works alongside the Rising Sons).

The Oni: Shrouded in myth, the Oni was once one of the greatest members of the Rising Sons, but he made a mistake that severely damaged the chapter. He now wanders in shame, in an epic quest to redeem himself or die trying. Sometimes when his battle-brothers are in grave danger, he appears to assist them, but he always vanishes a few days after he leads them to victory. His true name is unknown, for he asked the chapter master to wipe him out of the records out of shame.

Another planet idea.

A feral death world called Tengu. It spends much of its time eclipsed by another planet, causing it to have long periods of twilight and nighttime. Every couple of months, the planet slips out of eclipse and is blasted by harsh heat from the sun. The human population often seeks shelter in the planet's vast and thick forests, but the during this period, forest fires are also frequent. During the eclipse period, the human population is constantly on the run and hiding from Tengu's variety of dangerous creatures. To survive, Tenguese learn to be extremely adept at stealth and hunting. Many of the Rising Sons' ninja scouts are recruited from here.

I know the company commanders are supposed to be named after Sengoku daimyos, but have we agreed on a chapter master?

Each company's mon is displayed somewhere on the space marine, usually the knee, helmet or back banner. Each chapter master relinquishes his old surname as replaces it with his company's name. Each of current chapter masters are named after each historical clan's most prominent daimyo, except for Oda clan, whose chapter master is Oda Hideyoshi as of 882M41, after the Akechi Betrayal which left the previous chapter master, Oda Nobunaga, fatally wounded and confined in a venerable dreadnought. Although he is still considered the chapter master in spirit, Hideyoshi is the acting chapter master.

Musashi should be the fluff-tastic super unit. He was the greatest warrior in the chapter, before forsaking all rank and title to serve in a more humble role. However, when the chapter has need of him, he will leave his simple life and return to arms. Although he may take command for a time, he will return to his farm and hut on a feral world when it is all over.

Mifune was made a ronin, a disgraced battle brother, very early on in his career. However, after years of valor and heroic victories, he was accepted back into the ranks and hearts of his brothers. His rise from there was meteoric, and he is the first former ronin to ever rise in rank, let alone be chapter master. His attitude is slightly more pragmatic than his brothers, and his tactics can seem at times either weak or crude, but he always has a plan, and he always gets his results.

We've established >>14650477 (or at least a better looking version of it) is the official chapter symbol. Each company also has its own mon, which is usually displayed on the knee, helmet, sashimono, etc.

Lemme have a go at a special character... I'll work out a tiny bit of fluff (as I am kind of short on time right now) and allow others to build onto him.

Kitsune (Trying to work out a better name for him...) Is a lone wolf. He fights with two bolt pistols and a curve-bladed powersword. He was born to one of the warrior clans on Sekai. Eventually he was brought before the Shogun, and after years of training, became a Space Marine.

Lord: Mifune Toshiro, of No Clan in Particular. A former Ronin of Tokugawa Company.

Hey, here's an idea: Why not merge them and their guard counterpart into one unique army list?

Set up all the powers and units to fit their fluff better, drawing from both marine and guard elements.
Maybe also have it work kinda like this: Being picked to be a Rising Sun marine for the Clan/Company that rules where you are is a great honor normally only bestowed upon the upperclass and nobility. Amongst them, it is traditional for the eldest son to become a marine, also maintaining some kind of control over the family estate.
The eldest child of the second child (as, if I remember correctly, marines can't reproduce) will be trained to follow their uncle into their Clan's company of the Rising Suns.


If we go this route, it might be a good idea to make it assumed that this chapter is double-strength and commands either one star system or a few.

They do control a star system it's talked about it earlier on in the thread. Another thing that was discussed is that each Company Captain has control of his company plus X amount of imperial guard regiments. The general in charge of the regiments would be like the Captain's retainer. It would be his job while the company is on crusade to stay in orbit and monitor intelligence reports casuality reports and deal with other crusade leaders while the Captain is planetside fighting.

Aren't the Imperial Guard regiments ran by the Departmento Munitorum? I mean, as a whole. It seems like that letting a space marine chapter run a regiment of IG would be rather... uh. I don't think the Adeptus Terra would allow it.

Close allies, yes. Flat out ruling over them? Probably not. IG are tithed to the Imperium at large. Even in subsectors that have a huge Space Marine presence.

One of my homebrew chapters are fleet-based and have a LOT of civilians living aboard their ships, to the extent that the fleet has the population level of a planet. They train their 'fleet defence force' to IG levels, giving them the best equipment and using them in military operations . Yeah, but isn't implantation of the gene-seed kind of a hit-or-miss thing? Not everybody will take to it, so if just the elites are chosen then the chapter wouldn't be as full because of a smaller selection pool. If the peasantry are also tested, then they are more likely to be over-strength.

That could work. It could be that because certain bloodlines are more likely to have successful candidates, they've become noble houses because of the honor in becoming a Marine. The Rising Sons test all as a matter of course, but the peasantry just has fewer matches. So Marines from peasant lines are possible but unlikely, and are probably looked down upon by some of the Honorable Battle-Brothers.
