They are the Crazy Eight. Two are known. Six are hidden. They will be found.

The Eight are everywhere. They are the sage bombers, they are the spam-posters, they are the seemingly-ignorant and troll-posters that derail great threads. The wiki is their domain, and so is the archive. All that happens here happens by their will, and so it has been since /tg/'s creation.

Some say they are moderators and janitors, handpicked from the crowd. Other point to shadowy figures from the boards that spawned /tg/, and strangely similar tripfags.

The Sager, the /40k/id, the Troll, the Flamer, these are all proposals for archtypes of the Eight.

In truth, we know only that there are Eight.

You know, I find this whole thing hilarious. Especially considering I'm one of those guys who has several trips, all of which are used for various bits of storytelling and posting different, weird stuff. Then again, if someone actually figured out my dark secrets, it would break a bit of /tg/ mythology by people claiming that one person couldn't have had so many ridiculous games. Or do such weird bullshit to his players.

Yeah, taking this sort of thing seriously is stupid. Lots of people post under different names/use proxies to get on the board. It's only when that force is used for trolling that people grow angry.

I like to think that their opposites also exist; working throughout the night to generate OC, storytimes, and brilliant discussions about the weirdest parts of fluff. No need for prestige, or even thanks; they shed identities like water falling off of a raincoat.

How could you count such a counterforce? They'd be shifting and ever-changing by their very nature. Every piece of homebrew, every quality story...The Eight would hunt them down. They'd be too large a threat for the Hate to let them stay.

Their very nature means that they would be ever-changing. They are a force for good, after all; their posting style would change, as would the topics they create.

These are not the men who start "Humanity, Fuck Yeah!" threads; they are the men that inspire them.

These are not the men who are constantly on; they are the type to flit in and out, like a breeze, contributing beauty in /tg/'s darkest hours.

Their powers are many, as are their identities. Personal details will be thrown out, only to be discarded for other identities. They are the ones who foster the small games, the disused children of the RPG world, and they wish to see that you are entertained.

Why would you wish to track such a beneficial force?

They don't exist. There's only the Eight, and the board they dominate. Anyone else is simply an agent of one of the Eight, being played against another. Quest threads, sage-bombing, even moderation... all of it's just a ploy in a larger war. The Hater Eight hate each other above all.

The only one to find the truth, or at least a part of it, was the Eight Hater, and he's gone.

The second Hater is the Furry. This is an outcast, even among its fellows, and one of the best known of the Hater Eight. Like the Child, its power lies not in its fans, but in the furious actions of its many enemies.

A single careful image or topic by a pawn of the Furry can send entire threads spiraling out of control. Its very name can cause a furious shitstorm of accusations and rage, something the other Haters have used to their advantage.

It is at once the strongest and the weakest of the Eight: its power is great, but only through the reaction it provokes. Agents of the Furry are few, and well hidden, though their power threatened to overwhelm /tg/ more than once, swaying anons and users to their cause.

The Furry is hated, but undeniably potent. Its appearance is more often than not a sign that one of the other Haters has made a move.

Your answer lies here; the creators endure, and the trolls are picked off.

Nothing will stop us from creating.

Now go, /tg/! Create! Be inspired!

Know that wherever you go, there are others out there, driven individuals helping you to game. Creating things. And with your help, we can defeat the Crazy Eight and their reign of terror and sage.

And here we have "the Sage". A quixotic and seemingly insane creature, it is in some ways the greatest of the Eight. Many a thread has been doomed or saved by a seemingly random "bump" moments before destruction. While users and other Haters may use this technique, the Sage is undeniably its master. The board dances to the tune it calls, and for the use of only two words. Bump and sage, bump and sage. These are the tools that make it great. Its power is not limitless, however. Content is its bane, as is the effort of the many. Even the Quester and the Child can best it, at times.

For all its power,in the end, it is only a single mind, acting on the same two commands over and over again.

You're more or less right. It's a setting of sorts.

There are the Eight, also called the Eight of Hate, the 8, among other names. Every Anon has seen them, though they knew it not. They are the power behind the throne, dominating the wiki, the archives, and even /tg/ to an extent. They act with masks, lies, and a constant stream of posts. They contribute nothing, but control much.

One Anon, who we now know as the Eight Hater or 8H, found the truth. He spread the word to all of /tg/, but was quickly silenced.

Now, the knowledge spreads. As the Eight continue in their control and endless bickering, a scant few search for the truth behind the Eight of Hate and the enigmatic revelations of the Hater.

Above all, there is one question: Who are the Eight?

From what we know, the Eight have always been here. Perhaps they took up their identities in the newly made board, perhaps they came from /b/. From what we know of other boards, perhaps they are not limited to /tg/ alone.

The clues are there, well-hidden but discoverable by those with the internet-fu and time to do so. Half-archived materials hint at the presence of these Eight in some form or another before the creation of /tg/ itself, in the mythic time known to some as "Warhammer Wednesday".

If so, then the rumours of them being an inherent part of /tg/ have some truth to them after all...

-The Dirty Minded. These souls seek for the corruption of the innocents that sometimes browse /tg/ by posting non-worksafe materials, or to fap to them. Threads such as 'elf slave wat do' and 'how does a minotaur pussy look like' are the marks of the Dirty Minded and its agents.
-The Attention Whore. They seek to divert attention to themselves instead of the subject matter at hand, may it be via camwhoring or avatar/trip/namefagging and posting some egocentric stuff. The difference between 'normal' or even 'good' avatar/trip/namefags are that the Attention Whore and its agents produce little to no content, nor contribute anything to the discussion at hand. If they do create content, but it's hated by a vast majority of /tg/, they may be suspect Attention Whore agents.

    S.A.G.E- Self-Activated General Extension

A common tool of almost every resident of the 4C Habitat Nodes, this can be used for everything from finding your way about the plazas of the Board to navigating the Thread Conveyor Systems. (Or just hitting that annoying activation switch just out of reach.)

Quite often, however, it's put to much darker uses.

A S.A.G.E. can shut down an entire Thread Conveyor System at a time, sending the transit belts out of sync and throwing anyone unfortunate enough to be riding on them off their feet.

With enough skill, some "Anons", the worker caste that makes up most of the populace, can even turn them into crude explosive devices. "Sage-bombing" is a by-word across the central Boards of the habitat domes now, and the Dome Moderators are racing to find a solution for this problem.

Undeniably, the S.A.G.E is the greatest weapon of many of the Dome's enemies, as well as its friends.
    >> Anonymous 04/07/11(Thu)00:27 No.14502593
    Thread Mass Conveyor System

Undeniably, it is the Threads that make up each Habitat. At their core, the idea is simple: millions of metallic plates link together to form chains, that are then spun into silk-like threads spanning all fifteen miles of each Dome's circumference. Every resident of the dome, from the Moderators to the lowly Anon-caste worker, rides these Threads from place to place. It is the perfect form of transportation, maintained by repair-bots under the control of each dome's Moderators and their underling AI, the Janitors.

Worker habitations can therefore be scattered piecemeal across the dome, freeing up the space that living areas would have taken for usage in life support and research.

An interesting development is that Threads are often the only interaction with other groups the dome's residents achieve. Were it not for the Threads, Anon drones would live and die without seeing more than the handful of faces of their immediate workmates. Through the Threads, the Anons barter and bicker and exchange information. The Moderators tolerate this, and even limited self-realization by so called "Name-FAGs" and "Trip-FAGs", as long as it does not lead to sedition or drops in productivity.

(OP here. Any ideas for this, folks? Feedback? Should I continue?)

Each Node has its own, unique culture, though all have some elements in common. With the Moderators allowing some transfers of excess workforce between boards, it is clear that all of the domes have some elements in common.

Board: The circular, massive structure that makes up the base of each Dome. The Threads all move along the Board at some point, though many cross the upper levels and even the base of Dome Control in some cases. Off the threads, things are quieter, with no living things for miles at a time. There are shacks, and small communities of outcasts, looters, and traders, but for the most part, the Board under the Threads is just equipment: drone storage facilities, life support generators, drone-manned Worker Production labs, and the like. Few ever bother to look too closely at their Dome's boards, and that's what these are.

Images: These vary wildly from board to board, consisting of everything from sensory projections of sexual imagery (to sate the workforce's urges without resorting to chemical castration) to humorous images and propaganda to increase efficiency and raise morale. May be displayed on everything from the above multi-sensory, advanced holoboards to simple still-images that span entire sections of the Dome walls.
    >> Anonymous 04/07/11(Thu)00:53 No.14502909
CAPTCHA: A relatively new innovation, this watchdog AI is much less advanced than the MOOT node control system and even the Janitors that help each Moderator team with their tasks. Tasking with weeding out Defectives, mock-drones, and saboteurs, it's not terribly effective at finding any but the most stupid of these targets. In large part, this is due to its approach of asking each worker to repeat random phrases correctly (in a high, tinny voice to boot)- while this is quite efficient at finding the slow-minded, lobotomized suicide-drones favoured by some enemies of the Nodes, it's all but useless against traitorous Anons and other 4C-Hanners. Considered an annoyance and a joke by most 4C-Hanners.

You know what, re-reading this, I get an idea of the 4C Habitat Node is somewhat like the Megastructure in BLAME!. Also, I have something to contribute.

"Trawlers" - some of the Anon worker population, even though they are under constant vigilance of the Moderators, may turn into Trawlers under some circumstances. Trawlers sometimes lurk on or under a TMC, waiting for prey. Finding suitable prey, they make themselves appear, and rob the unfortunate folks of their sanity, sometimes leaving the victims frothing mad with rage. But, a low-level Trawler may be seen prematurely by others, and the Trawler is rendered harmless. Usually if this happens, they retreat to another TMC to lurk.
It is known that a pack of Trawlers may lurk in the same thread, or a Trawler attracting other Trawlers. They may sometimes turn a nearby Anon into a Trawler. Some Trawlers may disguise themselves as an Anon to evade capture.
What we don't know is the process of how an Anon turns into a Trawler. What we do know is that rapid mutation and altered mind patterns is inherent in a Trawler transformation.

(OP and writer of the previous ones here. Sounds great.)

Trawlers are officially referred to only as Defectives. As MOOT and the researchers in each Dome understand it, Trawlers suffer from a prion-based disorder, transmitted through bites, scratches, and contact with open wounds.

All Noders are advised to avoid contact with Trawlers, to alert any nearby Noders of the presence of a Trawler, and to use the self defense function of their SAGE if necessary.

Infected Noders and Noders who have become aware of a Trawler in the area should report to the nearest Moderator Report station and give their location and the exact status of the Thread.

Not every Noder listens. Maybe they're the smart ones.

Great idea. Mind if I use it?

Some Noders think Captcha is trying to communicate. Stories of particularly strange or "meaningful" queries are common discussion topics during transit on Threads, despite quiet attempts to discourage it by the Moderators. Officially, moans and screams by CAPTCHA during questioning are due to problems in the programming, and will be fixed shortly.

That doesn't explain why recordings of HELPME TRAPPED, NOSEE NOHEAR, and PAINHURTS BLINDPAIN (among other, stranger things) have all allegedly shown up on three different boards as queries.

And...tying it in with the Crazy Eight.

The Nodes have always had enemies. B-Node was little more than an active warzone at times, and still is a disaster area teeming with shattered, twisted threads turned out by malfunctioning repair drones and every threat imaginable. Its Drone caste has mostly gone insane, roaming the Board and killing each other in cannibalistic, feral madness. X-Node and V-Node are better, but not by much.

TG-Node was originally founded by the MOOT control system from samples from each of B-Node's most stable workers and FAGs. These few caste members, supplemented by constant additions grown in genebanks (usually referred to as NEW-caste until given a permanent assignment) would found one of the most successful and resilient Nodes.

However, the rate of attacks and problems has stepped up, worsened by a series of blunders on the part of the Moderator caste and ever increasing algorithm failures in the programming of the Janitor. Among other problems, this has caused mass riots by Anon-drones after the banning of several entertainment-drugs and the subsequent incineration of several Threads whose occupants were staging a strike. (How knowledge of the concept of a "strike" was allowed to contaminate the caste is still being investigated)

The Moderators suspect this is no accident. Someone or something is organizing this, causing seemingly unrelated problems, damaging equipment, arranging for coincidences. It may even be one of their own.

The latest rumour on the Thread networks says that there are eight saboteurs behind these waves of problems. Probably nonsense caused by too much alcohol in a batch's blood extract, but you can never be too sure...

I like it. I like it a lot.
Maybe more like B-Node is malfunctioning, and their Anons periodically stage raids onto other boards, their minds warped from the malfunction. Several inter-node travellers saw what seems to be hives upon hives of Trawlers in B-node.
Other nodes periodically raided by the B-Horde, as they're popularly known, are X-Node and V-Node. X-Node was once an unknown area, with mysteries and legends surrounding it, until the Node was built there. Since then the Node's inhabitants have experienced an abnormal amount of strange phenomena, and had dedicated chroniclers record and study these phenomena. All that changed after the B-Horde raided. The chroniclers are almost wiped out, and with nobody to study the phenomena, gradually they became less important. But today, X-Node is seeing a resurgence in the chroniclers' population, mostly from refugees coming back to X-Node.
TG-Node and X-Node maintain a good diplomatic relationship.

And MOOT sterilized several Nodes for various reasons at points in the past (mostly thought to be Trawler and sedition related). Every Thread in the doomed Domes collapsed into fine metal pieces and dropped onto the Board below, every growth-tank and drone factory self-destructed, and the whole thing was brought down on top of the resulting inferno by pre-placed explosives around the domes. Research Dome-9K now only exists as a deserted ruin and in the minds of the few surviving Anon-workers who were moved out before things went to pot there.

"Bumping". The usage of a SAGE to override the control mechanisms of a Thread, accelerating its movement to unsafe speeds. Used by many Anon-drones to decrease transit time, at the cost of damaging the Thread in question and possibly injuring their fellow workers.

Each dome is overseen by a special oversight caste, the Moderators. These individuals have been designed to be the best the Node gene banks have to offer, and have indirect and direct control over almost every aspect of the Dome's functions. Though they themselves rarely leave their towers at the top of each Dome, the Moderators maintain control over the Threads and the lower castes through their subordinate AIs, the Janitors. (These are ultimately semi-independent extensions of the MOOT AI, however, and are as much to keep an eye on the Moderators as to support them.) The Moderators can change almost any aspect of their assigned dome, given the approval of MOOT, and have direct control over armies of security, construction, and repair robot drones. (Not to be confused with the mostly-human Anons.)

Leaders, overseers, and an isolated upper class, the Moderators are the apparent leaders of the Nodes.

Recent breakthroughs by Anonymous' trollensics department have made possible the following small update to the psychological profiles of the elusive trolling conspiracy known as the Crazy Eight, also known as the Hater Eight, Eight of Hate, etc. For the uninitiated, these eight entities are rumored to control most or all of /tg/ trolling from behind the scenes, and together are responsible for at least 90% of all troll posts made. These profiles are still far from conclusive, being largely based on conjecture based on the reports of a number of internet detectives and subject to distortion by agents of the Eight.

As the object of any traditional game is to have fun, it is the Hater of Fun that poses the greatest threat and is therefore ranked number one. In a nutshell, whatever means of deriving this fun from your gaming you have chosen, the Hater of Fun will find something wrong with it. Either your game is not popular enough and therefore clearly bad, or you are a mindless sheep for playing one of those popular dumbed-down games for retards. Edition warring is one of the chief means of sacrificing to him, as are threads about differences in playstyles, especially when it comes to optimization. Optimizers will be derided as munchkins, while those who prefer not to optimize are accused of gimping their parties. No one is right, everyone is wrong.

The self-appointed enforcer and gatekeeper of what kinds of discussion are allowed on our board, the Two-Headed Judge is a peculiar fellow in that he cannot even agree with himself on what the board's rules should be. One of his heads would permit absolutely everything on the board and sports a mighty trollface as he continually starts threads about completely random subjects, while the other would allow exactly nothing and has contorted his face into eternal rage at every possible subject matter. Together they are locked in an eternal struggle, the result of which is the burying of many an interesting discussion under an unending yes/no meta-argument about whether we should be allowed to discuss it in the first place.

This shapeshifting Hater's chosen method of trolling is to fixate on a single subject for an extended period of time, during which he proceeds to start as many threads about it as possible in an attempt to inundate the board with it and arouse our ire. He then dons the guise of samefag and protests about this subject loudly wherever it is brought up, no matter the context. The forms of Touhou/Anti-Touhou and of Furry/Anti-Furry are probably his most infamous, but he has also been known to appear as Porn/Anti-Porn. However, his true form, pictured, is that of an amorphous blob that can take on the appearance of any idea with enough trolling potential. His versatility therefore makes him the third most dangerous of the Haters.

The Fourth Hater is a spirit of rage, brought about from the wake of the other Haters. He is capable of possessing the minds of other posters and turning even coherent, well thought out arguments into a rant filled with mindless hatred and insults. Furthermore, he delights in accusing of pretentiousness those still clinging to a veneer of civility, his ultimate aim being to reduce /tg/ to a cesspool of urine not unlike /b/. Note that some fa/tg/uys have paradoxically become resistant to this Hater's influence, somehow maintaining coherent sentence structure and functional cognitive skills even while frothing at the mouth in rage. For this reason, the Death of Civility is only ranked fourth among the Eight.

A formerly low-ranking member of the Eight who is thought to have migrated to /tg/ from /b/ rather recently, probably some time during last summer. As his limited mental capacity is rarely enough to comprehend the actual subject of discussion, the province of this Hater are simple troll tactics such as sagebombing, greentext and obviously retarded comments in general, with which he attempts to drown out all constructive discussion. In trolling, his mindset is that quantity has a quality all of its own. To /v/, he is much more familiar, being known there as the Implier of Implications. Although his troll-fu is weak, it is suspected that this newly promoted Hater's relentless shitposting has caught the eye of the great conspiracy that pervades our imageboard, earning him powers of moderation and therefore increasing his ranking to fifth.

The Identity Troll is a puppet-master, capable of adopting any persona or shedding them at a moment's notice to suit his trolling needs. He has a constant craving for attention, and his chief tools are naturally avatars, names and tripcodes. But he is not above posting as Anonymous either, bringing more attention to his many forms through copypasta pretending to denounce them and following them wherever they go. Above all, he is greatly amused by the notion that people are being provoked by the concept of identity on an anonymous imageboard, and will constantly try to bring attention to the identity of any poster rather than the actual content posted.

The aims of the recently demoted Seventh Hater are simple: to drive away all those who would produce original content for the board. Either he outright dismisses all new content as cancer, or he will just set his standards impossibly high and denounce everything as shitty and unoriginal. Invocations of the Seventh include such mantras as "weeaboo shitscribbles" and "sage for homebrew", but the idea of /tg/ getting shit done is anathema to him and may sometimes be used to ward off his minions. But his followers are many, and in the past, he has successfully driven away many a writefag, drawfag and homebrewer. His glory days are long since gone though, and lately original works such as Adeptus Evangelion and Planes and Mercs seem to have slipped past his radar. Therefore, his ranking is now lowered to #7, ahead of only the Endless Spammer, who seems to be lying dormant as of late.

The Eighth of the Eight remains the weakest one, as the many repetitive threads he posts day after day are easily ignored, and even occasionally a source of mild amusement. He is only rumored to possess a slight amount of emerging intelligence, but tenacity is clearly his strong point, and he usually accomplishes his greatest feats of trolling by teaming up with the Third Hater on a specific subject guaranteed to rile up /tg/ with enough repetition, such as Avatar, Ayn Rand or edition wars. However, even this has proven difficult for him to accomplish due to the introduction of captcha and the arrival of moderator reinforcements (despite their possibly corruption by the Eight), giving hope that fa/tg/uys will soon witness a new day with no "elf slave wat do" threads in sight.

This concludes the current extent of Anonymous' files on the Crazy Eight. Hopefully careful inspection of these files will allow you to recognize trolling tactics employed by the Eight or their agents, and to continue to safely contribute to the board as its rules-abiding members. Further information will be incorporated into these reports as it becomes available, and remember there is still a 50 thousand internets reward for any information leading to the capture fo any of the Eight. Also, the baneful influence of the Seventh Hater is still sufficient to hinder our sketch artist's efforts to provide accurate illustrations of the Haters. Therefore, any assistance would be welcome. Thank you for your time.

The Crazy Eight, coming soon to a screen near you.

Episode One: The Eight Hater makes his appearance, spreading word of the Eight to any who will listen. He soon gathers a mixed crowd, some of whom take his ramblings as gospels, while others are more skeptical. The Hater disappears midway through the episode, along with several Anons, and the confused crowds are left to wonder just what the truth is behind the Eight.
