I've collected a huge file of rune picture in an attempt to create a spell system in which you create your own spells based on runic arrays. You would start with so basic knowledge then learn through research (low risk slow progress) or trail and error (high risk higher potential for return). I think it would spice up a rather dull area of roll playing.
