30 Meter Murphy here with more tales of derring-do and questionable decision making skills in the 41st Millennium!

I present to /tg/ the Log of Seneschal Vorgen Thayle, in service to Rogue Trader Cornelius "The Cutter" Gilliam.

Cornelius is a nephew of the Gilliam Trade Family, and this will be his first time out of dock in command of his own ship. (Gilliam's player was Roth in Dark Heresy)

His ship, the Sword-Class Frigate Primae Noctis, an ancient vessel with the designation “Edmund Fitzgerald II” in some of the old logs. Also, there is something of an issue with some of the crew spray painting “Statutorium” on the hull occasionally. They will be dealt with. The gun cutter/shuttle has the dubious name “Jailbait.”

The crew of this vessel includes me, Vorgen Thayle, a Footfallen seneschal and local boy from the station. (30 Meter Murphy)

The Navigator, Alisander, who has a third eye that shoots warpfire. (Mar and then Dorn from Dark Heresy)

The void-born Astropath, Remi Malachi, who has a starting willpower of 60, no eyes and, some of have determined, is Cajun.

The Tech-Priest Explorator, 62-SXE, who carries around a storm bolter. (Flair from Dark Heresy)

The Missionary Gilliam Ramirez, a death world priest who carries an Angevin Era Chainsword.

The Arch-Militant Blade Xanitov, who carries 2 bolt pistols and a thunderhammer. Also from a death world, but has rival (ecclesiarchy) He & Ramirez instantly dislike each other.

The crew meets Uncle Gilliam (the real Rogue Trader of the family) at the Lonely Pilgrim Tavern at Port Wander. We are offered three jobs.

    1) We can escort a noblewoman and her pilgrim ship to set up a colony on Grace, a colonizable world.

    2) We can do a quick money trade deal where we deliver a cargo of corpses to the cemetery world of Redemption.

    3) We can go to the feral world of Dolorum and deal with a group of ork pirates who call themselves the World Crusha.

Option 2 is chosen. Dropping some corpses off to a cemetery planet. What could go wrong??

As we board the Primae Noctis, a surly old fellow in a survival suit, harness, & cap with fish-hooks dangling from it enters the bridge. This is Quint, and he’s been hired by the family to serve as the void-master (an NPC here). “I’m here to fly the boat, Chief,” he tells Gilliam (the preacher will be referred to as Ramirez for clarity’s sake). “Three-eyed Hooper, plot us a course!” Quint demands a supply of apricot brandy every 2 weeks.

The rolls are good and we plot a course to Footfall easily, reducing a month-long trip to 4 days.

We reach the big station of Footfall, a giant Ewok Village in SPACE. Vorgen is from there, but nobody else is.

Remi makes contact with the station and learn that a man named Bartleby Jones has the only dock that’s not full at the moment. Vorgen grits his teeth at the name. Quint manages to pull into dock, but not without hitting something in the way. “Damn, she’s got a big ass!”

    >>14115308
As the ship is getting moored, Bartleby voxes up. He cites a reasonable docking fee for a couple of days. However, there is a gravity fee, a paperwork processing fee, a bribe fee for local officials and so on. Vorgen rolls an 8 on commerce and manages to talk Bartleby down on the price. However, there is a friend of Bartleby’s on the station looking for a ride to a planet on the way to Redemption. He’ll lower the price only if we agree to deliver the old guy and his entourage. We’re told he’s a bigwig academic who gets cagey around psykers and arranges a meeting. Bartleby also brings up something from Thayle’s past involving a party, a lot of amasec and a tranny. Vorgen is not amused by the reminder.

The party disembarks to deal with stuff and go shopping.

Gilliam takes 62-SXE (pronounced "Sexy") and a bunch of nameless goons to secure the cargo. He meets a guy named Erik at the Corpse Fortune trade house, a local mortuary expert. He’s recently received a shipment from Calixis of honored dead. Several thousand corpses need to be delivered to the cemetery world. We will make 1 profit factor for the corpse drop. The cargo is secured and loaded onto the ship with no trouble.

SXE buys his storm bolter. Vorgen, who has a bolter cane, buys a vox-activated trigger for it. Just in case.

Vorgen takes everybody (including the trader & tech-priest) but the two psykers to meet Scholarus Majurus Jonas Quill at the Crystal Tower restaurant. The scholar has agreed to pay for the mean, so hey, free lunch.

Quill is an old, old man in an academic’s red robes. He’s plugged into a brass wirework cage/rig that helps him move. Occasionally steam shoots out. He also has 4 assistants with him wearing the robes of lesser scholars. Remi is having drinks with Quint in the hold and probably swapping gumbo recipes. Alisander is eating in another section of the restaurant with some crew members. Just in case.

Among Quill’s many fields of study is archeology. He’s licensed to dig up all kinds of weird stuff. He is also a polymath who can discuss the Emprah with Ramirez.

Quill wants passage to the Agarian Dominion. He wants some rooms and cargo space for his gear and a shuttle. He also wants to be picked up on our way back to Footfall, and he also wants 50 of our goons to help him dig stuff up. Standard rates apply.

We roll badly to examine his credentials, so he is obviously totally legit. We negotiate a lower rate in order to examine and possibly talk trade with any items he digs up.

Ramirez talks to a rather formal looking psyker named Sprocket (the Teenage Psyker from the Dark Heresy game). One other guy is Gordon. The other three assistants are all women: The oldest is Celeste, the others are Jane & Patty.

Vorgen tries to talk to Jane. Rolls horribly. He strolls over, smiles, and says “Nice shoes. Wanna fuck?” She glares at him. He apologizes, buys a drink and slinks away.

The deal is agreed upon and we go back to the ship. The scholar and his people board. Vorgen talks SXE into setting up some security cameras in the passenger quarters. Among Quill’s people are two big guys in power armor called the Hemmingway Brothers and an older man in a black coat named Frederick. Gilliam notices that various pistols bulge discreetly underneath his coat. He’s got the marks of a Metallican Gunslinger hired as a discreet bodyguard.

We get out of port with no incident and plot a course smoothly. For the trip, the passengers mostly keep to themselves. SXE checks out their shuttle. The exterior checks out, but he can’t get a read on anything on the interior. The only thing that can do that is some kind of dampening field.

We reach Quill’s location and his retinue along with 50 of our goons go down to the planet. Nice and smooth.

As we head back into the Warp, Quint rolls badly and it takes us a further 2 months to get to Redemption. The crew begins to get restless. Ramirez decides to go down and preach the good word to them.

He climbs up a hastily constructed platform, stretches his arms out wide and begins with “Crew! CAN YOU DIG IT?”

He rolls so well that they exuberantly shout back “YES WE CAN DIG IT!” What follows is essentially a tent revival down in the hold with lots of clapping and singing. Later, some reported seeing a Gospel Choir appear out of nowhere and start singing along. Because it’s the Warp.

We finally get to the necropolis world of Redemption. There are a good many orbital defense platforms. This is where revered dead go. Remi makes a call and contacts an astropath so old that he’s basically plugged into his chair. There’s a moment of pathos for the poor bastard.

Anyway, we are contacted by a Commander Ciaphas Cain (Hero of the Imperium! Though what he’s doing there is anybody’s guess) who points us to a docking bay where we start to unload the cargo.

We meet the harbor master who asks us “Where do you want the ashes?” Vorgen & Gilliam look at each other. “Didn’t mention that, did he? Oh, Bartleby’s gonna pay extra to get his ashes back.”

We leave without anything else happening and get back to the Agarian Dominion and pick up Quill and his people. Turns out there was a small “accident” on the world and 10 of the goons we sent down were killed. Apparently they were warned not to go to certain areas of the ruins and were fried by radiation. Our psykers examine the remaining goons for any tampering, but they check out, if a little shaken.

Vorgen pulls aside their foreman, Greg, and talks to him, succeeding crazy well on inquiry. “Boss, these guys are into some weird shit. His women folk are creepy. The old guy in the coat was handy with a gun and one hell of a card player. There’s some definite xenos stuff they’re into. As for the crew who died, they got stinking drunk, went off camping and their scorched bodies were found the next day.”

We examine the stuff the scholar dug up. There’s a lot of Eldar artifacts. Some wraith bone, some weapons, the desiccated armor of somebody semi-important. There’s also an odd sort of circle that would fit in the palm of your hand that was made out of a black, spinning thing. That particular thing was off limits.

Vorgen tries to get some information out of Celeste and fails horribly. “So how about you? YOU wanna fuck?” She DOES NOT WANT to talk to me.

Gilliam does manage to charm her into talking to him. However, there’s something…disquieting about her that he can’t place his finger on. He learns that the artifact agenda was created by the scholar. They were actually there to collect Eldar artifacts. She tells the scholar’s tale word for word about what happened planetside and how those crewmen died.

Vorgen talks to the scholar, gets invited to dinner and a bunch of bullshit small talk about the Eldar in the Expanse gets discussed.

As we travel through the warp, the Navigator has trouble locating the Astronomicon and something goes wrong. Astropath Remi senses something wrong on Gundeck 7. He tells us as much. The explorator plugs into the ship and finds out that systems have gone down in the cargo bay. Also, throughout the gundecks, purple-ish/black-ish portals are opening up and orks are pouring into our ship, but the biggest incursion is on Gundeck 7. SXE locks down the doors to the cargo bay and off we go to Gundeck 7.

We get to the hallway and see 2 of the bigger orks poke their heads out and fire, they miss entirely, but holy shit they’ve got bolter. Everybody is pinned except for Gilliam and Ramierz, who strides forward screaming “I CAN DIG IT!” Everybody else freaks out because these are orks using bolters and tactics.

The Ork Boss tries to pin us again. Gilliam passes. Blade & SXE are hit for minor damage. We also notice that these orks are speaking Eldar to each other in addition to standard orky dialogue. Blade & Ramirez enter the fray, taking some hits. There’s a whole lot of not hitting anything with our weapons. Remi tries to fire his plasma pistol, it overheats and he’s forced to drop it, drawing his hellpistol.

SXE levels his storm bolter and succeeds and nails 4 hits. Crit table time. There’s a giant hole in the offending ork’s chest. The astropath hears somebody scream in telepathic pleasure as the ork dies.

Blade pulls his thunder hammer and misses horribly, staggering back and putting a hole clear through the bulkhead.

“Watch my goddamn ship!” Gilliam shouts over the battle.

Gilliam fills an ork with 2 bolts hot plasma, surrounding it with a corona of fire as it dies.

The orks return fire but it either bounces off the armor or misses.

It hits, doing a staggering 7 righteous furies on the ork that was until then attacking the Militant. The laser beam cuts clean through the ork’s skull, killing it so hard that the Dark Eldar riding inside its mind psychically creamed all over the Astropath. Every time an ork dies, the astropath gets mind-bukkakke’d.

Blade finally smashes an ork with his thunder hammer. The ork was watermelon, he was Gallagher.

Vorgen shoots the Ork Captain. Righteous fury hits, setting the bastard on fire but not killing him. Trader Gilliam shoots him hard, burning an arm off, but the fucker’s still holding onto a chain axe. A chain axe that quickly hit’s the Trader, dealing some serious pain.

Ramirez roars and digs his chainsword into the boss, bisecting him.

Remi fumbles to pick up his now-cool plasma pistol. An ork dodges SXE storm bolter fire. Alisander, making sure that none of us are in the line of fire, opens up his third eye and warp energy blasts the orks, killing them. The warp gate on the gundeck closes.

After the fight, Missionary Ramirez tries to do first aid on the Trader and continues our tradition of having to spend/burn a fate point on the first post-combat healing roll of the campaign.

SXE taps into the ship’s systems. We learn the orks are being pushed back. In one of the vid feeds, Quint is seen hanging from his clip harness shooting orks with a las rifle and screaming “I’ll never go back in the water!!” As for the cargo bay, we can’t get anything on the cameras.

On the way there we run into Quill and his people, who’ve set up a triage station, because he’s also studied medicine. “Oh my god, you’re so wounded,” he says as we limp into the room.

We (well, not Vorgen because he knows better than to stand next to orks) get patched up and head off for the “Ashtray” cargo bay.

As we walk down the hallway, we see a bloody mess. A bunch of red shirt guards lie dead, their bodies cut into pieces and rearranged around the hall. Horrific murders done in a ritualistic, ecstatic way. One of the poor sods by the door is still alive, albeit nailed to the wall and with his guts transformed into a decorative lattice. All he’s able to do is repeat the words “17, 46, 86” over and over. He’s been mindfucked extra fierce.

Gilliam recognizes the numbers as a cargo location code.

“So, uh. What do we do about him?” Gilliam says, pointing to the guy.

“Killing him would be a mercy, sir,” Vorgen says.

“I could try healing him,” Ramirez adds helpfully.

“Nah,” Gilliam says and puts a plasma round into the poor crewmember.

Alisander notices a small wire trap along the door to the bay. It’s a grenade trap that gets quickly disarmed. Gilliam takes the grenade. We fail archeotech to notice anything about it, simply remarking on the funny shape it has.

We enter the cargo hold. The room’s dark. Someone shot out the lights. However, the psykers can still see. “What, you guys BLIND or something?” Remi says and pings the room with his senses.

The Militant and Techpriest succeed at perception. There’s 2 Dark Eldar snipers positioned on boxes in the room. And a third somewhere in the back.

The Rogue Trader heroically ducks behind a crate as the snipers open fire. Only the Militant gets hit and loses 5 wounds.

“Son of a bitch, my arm’s numb,” the Militant says as he pops off a bolter pistol at one of the snipers, hitting righteous fury and exploding the Eldar’s torso.

The bitch is lying to us. Remi detects Warp energy buildup. We figure out that she’s stalling for time to get out of there.

in our last session, one of our newcomers decided it would be a good idea to fenris, we didn't really cared, so we set sail, however the journey took two years, so our party as well as most of the crew were put into cryo sleep for the journey

turns out our navigation roll wasn't perfect enough and we ended up exiting the warp in a really nasty place, our ship was boarded by undead feral orcs, and they slowly started consuming the crew we had in cryo sleep

after coming out of cryo sleep our party sneaked around the ship and came across a shaken crewman as well as an old man with a flame thrower, who had apparently boarded my ship after discovering it being disabled, but the feral orks soon killed his men as well as disabling his own ship

after gathering enough information we learned that the undead were gathering in the engine, hence why the ship had become unpowered, the only way we were to save our crew is by firing up the main reactor, but we had to go through alot of feral orks to that

along with this man and a few rescued crewmen we besieged our claimed engine room, and before the rest of the horde became alerted to our presence we were able to successfully fire up the reactor, which fortunately housed the majority of these undead where they held their rituals

we jettisoned a few sections of the ship to get rid of any remaining unwanted specimens, and brought the crew out of cryo to cleanse and repair the ship, and continued our journey

Remi Malachi rolls to terrify her and gets 5 degrees of success. That bitch is scared and screaming uncontrollably. Gilliam laughs, thinking she’s scared of him.

Alisander hits her in the face with his warp eye, almost killing her.

She shocks out of the terror as her action just in time for Gilliam to shoot her dead with his plasma pistol.

As she falls over, she winks at Remi. “Well done. I’ll be seeing you,” he hears in his head. On her hand, a ring glows and vanishes, along with her weapons.

So since he was directly responsible for getting her killed, Remi now has a mental link with Ansaura, the Witch of the Endless Scream Cabal and is effectively marked.

Gilliam shows a corpse to Quill and says “So, we’ve got Dark Eldar,”

Quill explains about the ring thingy. It was a homunculus’ sample case. “Are any of you familiar with homunculi? Homunculi are Dark Eldar witches and flesh crafters. If one had made a bargain with one, they can regrow the body and place the soul in it. Some of the ork corpses had these implanted in their skulls as mind control devices.”

Its becoming clear that the orks were a diversion for this team. Its decided to check out the cargo crate in question. Vorgen distracts the scholar by talking about selling the eldar corpses to him for study.

Gilliam calls Vorgen over from the doorway. Fred is standing there in his coat looking rather amused at our whisperings.

“Hey Face, we found a Dark Eldar body in the box. We’re gonna pretend it was killed in the battle and have your scholar friend examine it.”

“Okay. I can do that,” Vorgen says and goes back to the scholar.

He rolls a 100 to deceive.

All of us fail to detect any lies and believe him at his word. He offers to buy it off us and tells Sprocket to handle the negotiations.

Vorgen rolls really well and Sprocket agrees to the highest initial price asked. The scholar and his people cart off the body. Yay team!

Blade & 62-SXE both try to intimidate and shake him down for a better price. The techpriest kind of succeeds in intimidating him.
