No/tg/erudoes! Are you tired of Nintendo's codex creep, and the constant release of new armybook after new armybook for the Hylians while armies like the Gerudo or Shiekah are at risk of being Dwarfed? It gets annoying if you play an army that doesn't accept Link as its spiritual liege.

What all can one do if they're playing Gorons nowadays? Their main advantage, their otherwise unblockable charge by roll-attack, is hard-countered by Hylian Skirmishers laying down bomb-chus. It's unfair. Help a Megaton player out?

Goddamnit Nintendo, can't you guys do proper game balance? An all-flier race is going to be OP as all get, due to maneuver advantages and wind-magic.

I'm sick of Nintendo's incompetence in this, and we should do our part as players to update the Ikana to Twili Edition.

What were they known for? Expendable stalchildren waves, blue bubbles, and the occasional Beamos weapon emplacement, acting in support of a smaller elite group of undead Samurai. Captain Keeta should go in as well, as being able to unlock better formations for the stalchildren also.

I wish Servants of Majora would get a new dex...

The background has Majora as the Mad God, the thing that nearly ended Termina in three days and bested the Hero in minutes. While it was trapped in a Mask.

What did we get? A joke of an upgrade to Skull Kid, the worst Leader in the dex, and no change to his weapons mastery or tactical skill. He just gets a crap rule and +3 bonus to spellcraft!

What's the new Hylian dex say? "Brought the risen spirit down with a single slash from his sacred blade"? I call bullshit, no mention of the Masks and makes the Giants into spectators.

Navi is annoying but her ability to lead a unit of Fairy Squads to taunt and kite enemy melee units is good for when you need to draw "detection units" away from Sheik's infiltration team. Do it right and you can even kill the bosses by infiltration and laying Goron Demolition Charges.

So it's about as balanced as the core game really. Not saying much, but still.

I think they're part of the Undead Hordes army.

Y'know, Stalfos, Gibdos, Poes and Redead.

If I were you, I'd get the Stalord as a leader, grab two units of Stalfos and fill out with Poes.

Send the poes around to flank, if they get shot, they get to go invisible for a turn, and your Stalfos come back on a roll of 6 if they die.

Depends on which army variant you're using. If using the desert Gerudo base army, Ganondorf is available in his generic "Warchief" mode; you don't get any of the Phantom or Triforce variants either.

The key with Gerudo is that your cavalry archers are expensive yet tactically versatile, while you have a good set of elite, though fragile, infantry choices. Bladedancers tear through unshielded units, although you need to beware when fighting Kokiri players who spam Deku Bombers.

Also, having access to Ice Arrows is really useful for stunlocking enemy casters, and the Iron Knuckles (pic related) are an excellent (though expensive!) tank.

It's all about the MSU and going for "more" units over "better" units in most cases. I don't like Knuckles myself, due to their lack of all-comer viability, and slowness. If they could tote siege weapons, I'd use them...

Twinrova would be nice, but ask yourself: Wouldn't it just be simpler to take them as their base Koume and Kotake forms? This way it remains tougher to tie them up in assault by some sacrificial hero with defensive magic or rupee-burning armor, while you can focus on killing more of the enemy. Don't underestimate the power of having the "light" Iron Knuckle bodyguard...

Though I would rather just use Nabooru for her command bonuses instead. Call me crazy.

You take the Deadhand for its disruption abilities and ability to blast everything when it emerges from the ground. Also, being able to face-lock archers on the initial drop is useful for getting the rest of an army into position.

Taking more than one Dead Hand (can you even do that nowadays? Fucking old-edition rules interacting with the new edition) would be redundant since the extra hands would have nothing they could grab onto, and for the price, you could just grab more Shiekah disciples.

You're thinking too much like Warmateria, where a well-placed assassination run ends the game right then and there! You need an army where you can properly attrition your foe to death, or barring that, hold objectives and make assault a difficult propsition. Shiekah are not much for holding ground, but are great at defeat-and-detail.

Remember that smoke bombs are also useful for blocking off any remaining fire-lanes while you charge into combat. You have the ability to make a free move-after-melee, which allows you to wave-dash, while Shiekh herself is able to continually dash off enemy models should she land hits on them. With enough luck she can disable an infantry line just enough for your rank-and-file to finish them off with poison-needles, or the Composer Brothers using death magic.

So, fa/tg/uys, check out my recent Iron Knuckle list.

    HQ:
Twinrova 250pts (Yeah, I know the twins are really expensive, but the immunity to Fire and Ice is pretty nice!)
    Rare:
Guardian Knuckle - Great Axe, Enhanced Plating = 155pts
Guardian Knuckle - Great Axe, Enhanced Plating = 155pts
Guardian Knuckle - Great Axe, Enhanced Plating = 155pts
    Core:
    Iron Knuckle Phalanx (3) - 225pts
    Iron Knuckle Phalanx (3) - 225pts
    Iron Knuckle Phalanx (3) - 225pts
    Iron Knuckle Phalanx (3) - 225pts

    Total: 1615pts

I want to make a proper 2000 point list, what else should I add? Considering that each Iron Knuckle has Purposefully Encumbered, making them move only 3" per turn, I can't really cover much ground. I do appreciate the 2 wounds each gets, and 3 the Guardians have. I want a faster moving skirmisher, however. What from the Gerudo list is good to add? I might be able to take Darknuts as mercenaries from the Twilight Princess addon, but they're awfully expensive. Are they worth it?

Blue Shells look like they'll be too expensive for what they do, since usually by the time you can line up a proper shot, the Karts would slagged into wrecks by proper application of magic or firepower.

Much simpler to use more Green Shells, and occasionally equip the Karts with turbo-mushrooms for last-turn objective-contesting. In a crossover game, Gorons would of course just roll oveer the Karts, although equipping the occasional Banana-launcher to alter the direction they roll is humorous, especially when bomb-toting Gorons roll into each other!

So they've finally started leaking the rumors on Timesage about what the Mushroom Kingdom:
-We're talking fragile. Their models usually fall over in a single hit.
-Lots of "buff" options. One of their main leader choices looks to be called a Starseer, and can use starspirits to heal, cause enemies to fall asleep, buff the statlines of units, etc.
-Another hero is the Fortuneteller, who allows the Mushroom Kingdom player to draw on a Tarot deck in order to apply gamewide buffs and debuffs.
-Heroes are able to equip "Badges" from the Armory which either unlock new abilities or enhance existing ones.
-Should you be taking Mario as a hero, he has the option to take a Party of Sidekicks, sergeant-level models which give a variety of special attacks and abilities to him.
-Karts *are* in. They use a modified version of the old Nintendo Kart Kommando rules They can either move 6" and turn up to 90 degrees in a turn, or they can move 12" and turn up to 45 degrees. With a successful drive check, some kart drivers can instead perform a "Power Slide", where a vehicle moves 6", turns 45", but remains moving in the same direction; a failed check results in the vehicle spinning Out-of-Control.
-Karts are fragile. Lots of upgrade options however, including Mushroom-charged engines, Shells, decorative Fireflowers...
-The old Yoshis from the Rogue&Watch series of games are in as a mount option. They can eat small models but a single well-placed hit will result in a morale check to ensure the Yoshi doesn't run away.
-In addition to normal deployment options, they have the ability to deploy by Warp Pipe, with 2 pipes available per Mario Brother taken (so 4 should Mario and Luigi join up). They either act as additional points to enter from reserve, or to rapidly move from one point of the map to the other.
-Rumors remain at large as to whether Bowser is available as a mercenary ally.

If your opponents still let you, the Termina list from Nintendo Power's old Player's Choice series did it better. For all their musical pretensions, the Indigo-gos were great as an elite combat unit, while being able to bring a drummer team to play Goron's Lullaby is also useful for countering the Rock-Roll. Elegy of Emptiness is also nice for generating mobile cover for your band to entrench themselves, while they keep attritioning your foes.

    ICE KEESE. OF COURSE.
That'll stop that damn Ice Arrow volley.
And I don't mind the lack of mobility. I fight quick armies. I'll just let them come to me, have the baby dodongos erupt from under them, then have the skitterers come from the sides and pick apart anything that gets out of the blast radius in time.
    This could be fun.

    >> Anonymous 02/28/11(Mon)12:12 No.14074704
So I'm a newfag...what armies are there in all?

For Megaton I'm seeing the options:
    -Goddamn Hylians
    -Kokiri/Deku
    -Gorons
    -Zoras
    -Gerudo
    -Shiekah
    -Monstrous Hordes/Army of Majora
    -Cursed Kingdom of Ikana
    -Twili
    -Rito
    -Terminan Defense Force

    For Hammerbro:
    -Mushroom Kingdom
    -Koopa Kingdom
-Boo Kingdom (from what I saw, King Boo is an associate and not necessarily a subject of Bowser)
-The Shy Guy Kingdom (scattered throughout a series of pocket dimensions, lairs, etc. While they occasionally do mercenary work for Bowser, Smithy, Wort, or other enemies of the Mushroom Kingdom, they're isolationist otherwise.)
-The X-Nauts (these guys are supposed to be "new" and all technological and all).
-The Smithy Gang (although they're at risk of being Tatanga'd).

Am I missing any important ones?

    >>14074704
You're missing Dark Powers from Megaton.

    And the Undead Horde.

Dark Powers being things like Moblins and other forces that are loyal to Ganon/Vaati, not just natural monsters.

Undead Horde don't come under Monsterous Horde either, they're things like Stalfos, Poes, Gibdos and such.

Some of the Undead can be taken as mercs by the Shiekahs though, mainly dead hands, redead and wallmasters.

I like the feel of the Ocean Temple fluff, and, lets face it. Phantoms will wreck Iron Knuckle's shit. Only things that stand a chance against phant's is something with Agility or an AOE spell that it can get behind the bastards.

Ocean Temple just has too few troops choices. Just Wizzrobes, Poe, and Rats.

Don't suppose anyone else here plays Ocean Temple? I can't decide how to field Bellum. His natural reach and attacks are nice, but possessing enemy heroes in exchange for vulnerability to light-based attacks is also nifty. Is he a situational unit?

    Shiekah army.

Stalfos - They come back on a roll of 6
Shiekah Well Lord - Buffs the undead, Stalfos roll to get back up becomes 3+
Wallmaster - Can grab a unit and take it back to it's controllers side of the board, units targeted get a roll to avoid it, unless they're in combat.

Nah, go Gerudo. Nintendo might not give them love anymore, but goddesses are they fun, tough, and fluffy. Whether you want Knuckleduster army smashers (bit weak against siege defenders though) or a fast, all-mounted band of thieves, the Gerudo is the army to play.

From Timesage, about the Shy Guys:
-Being deficient in humor, most units are a "Rhymes with Guy" Guy. Assorted units include:
    -Shy Guy: Rank-and-file
-Spy Guy: Sneaky infiltrator, good with camo/slingshooting.
    -Sci Guy: Uses potions/alchemy.
-Medi Guy: Flies a mini Koopa-copter and heals your Guys.
-Mini Guy: See pic, a heavy-weapon guy.
-Fly Guy: Has Balloons and a propeller, slingshots opponents.
    -Fry Guy: Carries a flamethrower.
-Anti Guy: An assassin unit, known for being in all-black and hitting like Biggoron!
-Sly Guy: A skirmish model, known for getting bonuses for ganging up with single models.
-Gas Mask Guy: An "Elite Shyguy" armed with a gas mask that shoots bullets.
-General Guy: Commander/leader, rides a giant tank.
-Psi Guy: Alternate commander, able to use psionics.

Aside from this, they get a bunch of warmachines, pirate ships, tanks, etc. They're there for "heavy armor".

Here I was thinking that it was because he has a 50% chance of healing every time he kills a model, to make things worse, on 6s he gains ALL of his health back. So if he gets beat up all he needs to do is find a unit with crappy saves and then he is back up to full again. This is why the Hunters list is best against Hylia, they don't have large units with crappy saves.

His jump and stomp by itself is disgusting (hell, it's the one feature tauted about the brothers more than anything else), so I don't see why I should buff it any more. I like my commanders to be versatile, and although yes, it's hella expensive, both Fire and Lightning powers give him so many options. That morale penalty people keep complaining about is too overblown (plus it's nothing that can't be fixed with Mari or Daisy or Peach as subcommander(s)). I think he's honestly just as powerful a commander as the One in Red.

In fact, I'll say it right now: my Luigi and Mushroom Guards can take on any Link. Come at me, bro.

Not everything needs to be solved with stomping. Learn to think laterally. And I just said I play a Mushroom army. Daisy as co-commander is almost as disgusting as Mario: she's not as timid as Peach, she hits hard by herself, and all that geomancy can fix the terrain and force the enemy through chokepoints, which makes easy pickings for my Mushroom Pikemen and Mushroom Archers. All that is to say nothing of the brother combos.

Defenders had the opposite problem; too many people abused Mask Salesman/Hero of Masks combos and Song of Time. Add that to spamming Goron travellers, and no wonder Nintendo tried to remove Gorons altogether briefly. I'm just glad they stopped at the Dwarves and Defenders...(Still miss my Maskspam though.)

Magikoopas were much hyped when they first come out, but the truth is Nintendo never intended for them to play a big part. The Koopa Kingdom is supposed to be frankenstein science, slightly steampunk type guys, so having wizards up the wazoo kinda takes away from that. They're there to explain how Bowser knows magic, and that's it.

Which Version of Peach do you guys plan to use for your army? Cleric Peach, Prayer Peach, Kart Peach, Or Super Princess Peach (and her EMOTION! powers)?

subcon cant be used lol unsoupported codex and all kart sport and party supplements are gimmicks with nothing good in them. combat princess are gimmick units that should only be used against noobs to show them how bad they are

I feel for you. You guys haven't had a major fluff presence for years. Were you even mentioned in Other?

Only good thing to come out of Koholint, IMO - though not being able to attack hens, or use your shovel without rolling a d6, when she's in your army can be annoying at times.

Yeah, well, it's now canon. Shit sucks. At least the Federation got another heavy support unit...

Cheese lists, anyone? Megatonhammer, Hammerbro, Hunter lists all welcome. (Please, don't just say Mid-lian or Knuckledusters. Those are legitimate lists, if OP against newbies/ the unprepared.)

As bad as Other's fluff was, you can't deny the new weapon options are a significant power boost for the feds.

I feel like I have to steamroll you on principle now. Princesses can work if used properly. You can't roflstomp people like you can with Biggoron Sword Link. But make no mistake, princesses CAN work. I've seen it happen.

Next game I play, I'm playing combat princesses.

    Peach, Daisy, Zelda and Midna.

Along with some toad/hylian support, it'll be an easy win.

Oh, dear Goddesses. Thank you for this line of thinking.

lolWallmasters, Knuckles, and Ganon-tier units will all ruin your day. Not to mention other options. Can you say Gereudo thief raid/boar Moblin mob?
