We watch from our cloaked dropship as Kingston's modified valkyrie fighters finish firing their payloads of nukes at the population centers of Shakuras and jump away. The Dark Templar homeworld, discovered hours earlier by ourselves and even more recently by Kingston's forces, is already darkening noticeably from the resultant fires and dust, and the radiation sensors are beeping very insistently inside our Terran ship.

Sporadic contacts herald the arrival of small bands of Protoss fighters and the occasional carrier, but so far nothing has arrived that can challenge the massive Terran battle fleet.

Do all the shit I wanted to do last week. Let me dig up the post.

    >I think our next move is to buy the Protoss time to regroup and prepare a strike against the Terrans. Since the main Terran battlefleet is now somewhat damaged, a major assault against one or more of the Terran core worlds should have a decent chance of success- or at least prevent the Terrans from following up their assault against the Protoss at the moment.

    >While that assault is ongoing with Zerg assets, we use our Protoss assets to start jumping into every rim world that we can find and systematically start frying them. Reinforcements won't be able to come, because they'll be flooding towards the Zerg onslaught- we should be able to glass several worlds before the Terrans can stop us, drawing the battle lines even more firmly than we already have.

We got those strategic resources specifically so that we'd have them available to use. Now seems like a rather golden moment. Our colonies will continue producing resources to replace our losses, and they're still expanding so the flow of cash will only grow. Better to push the offensive than let the other races act against our worlds.

Put Warbrate in strategic command with Gorn seconded to him. He's a cunning guy, should be able to make best use of him... and I'm not particularly interested in using Bernie's already-depleted forces right now.

Whoa whoa whoa, even though Kingston is leading an attack fleet right now, Tarsonis probably has a decent defense grid. If we're attacking it, we'll need to commit to an attack, and face the possibility of loosing.
On the upside, attacking there will make our Protoss ruse more believable.

(Why, sure. It's not a complete list, because I don't feel like compiling that sort of information right now, but here's what was on that list:)

Tarsonis: Capital of the Confederacy, this is the single most populated planet in Terran space, and the most heavily defended. It is the center of all Confederate operations, construction, and is the supposed location of Kingston himself, though we can't confirm that.
Moria: The former capital of the Kel-Morian Combine, and the second most populated planet in Terran space. Since the Combine's absorption into the Confederacy, its governmental functions are likely less vital, but Moria is perhaps as vital to the Terran economy as Tarsonis.
Umoja: The former capital of the Umojan Protectorate, the third-largest government in Terran space, Umoja is a pretty jewel in space. It exports consumer goods and has a small, if dedicated, defensive network. Since its absorption into the Confederacy, its governmental functions are likely insignificant. While a major contributor to the Terran way of life, it is a much easier and less vital target than the capitals of the larger factions.
Tyrador System: Two worlds in this system are notable: VIII and IX. VIII is a bastion of scientific progress, holding facilities both military and civilian, but little else. IX is primarily a resort world, with a reputation as the last military fallback point for the Old Families which carry significant weight in the Confederate government. It is a symbol of Confederate wealth and security, and a place of rest.
    >> Anonymous 02/09/11(Wed)22:16 No.13844582
Make a point of avoiding Kel-Morian and Umojan interests entirely. Make them second guess getting involved at all. Why should they throw their lives away if their own homes aren't in danger?

They are confused about whats going on. There is a mental factor there because they didnt understand why they found the protoss.

They are weakened because their main fleet, the one presumably held on standby for our obliteration seince the thread with the psi compass.

They are distracted. Not only are they not understanding what just happened with the protoss they are likely trying very very hard to find some way to profit from it and pilfer the protoss tech.

Regardless of if they have a fleet over Tarsonis, it will probably be either the tarsonis defense network from the games which really wouldnt be a detterant seeing as they most they would ahve are nuke/missile platforms and in space with the retard huge numbers it entails wouldnt be that much of a deterent to a race like ours which uses a superior fighter focus over a capital ship aproach like the other SC races.

Also, Tarsonis is a world of beurocrats, politians, and the big dog himselves personal army. So aside from that last one we would have an entire city world of easily consumed terrans to harvest.

not to mentian that they probably have repair platforms set up there for the ships returning from the Shakuras battle that they thought would be the Cerebrate battle. So we will likely catch all the weakest of their fleet in a very very bad position.

All around the only thing we need to worry about is the actuall network and any of the personal allowances Kingston took. But seeing as all 4 of our generals are taking the battle our fleet will be more than well spread out enough to absorb much of the flak unnafected.

NOW BURN TARSONIS YOU SPINELESS LARVA!

Right, because attacking the most heavily defended planet in the sector (I'm ignoring fleets here) is always the best idea. It's a fortress city world after all, and we don't know if Kingston is even there in the first place. I'd say Tyrador for a moral/research loss or Moria, because after all Moria is the single richest planet in the sector.

(That was quick. Tyrador it is!)

As new valkyries arrive around Shakuras, raining new nuclear missiles on the world, our forces arrive in the Tyrador system. A single battlecruiser and a small detachment of supporting fighters defend the world, as well as one defensive platform and Warbrate allows Gorn control over several wings of mutalisks and scourge to destroy the fleet and several overlords full of units to take the platform as it rounds on the civilian traffic. Explosions alight before the comm chatter screams to life with distress calls. We detect odd readings from the surface of Tyrador VIII, and two battlecruisers attempting to launch from Tyrador IX. Gorn finishes with the defensive fleet and toys with the units entrenched on the orbital platform as Warbrate's forces engage the battlecruisers in atmo. Six science vessels begin to launch from Tyrador VIII.

Our four Protoss carriers and their scout escorts, meanwhile, arrive to begin scourging the surface of a small mining colony, dispatching its three defensive wraiths with ease.

If we attack the Tyrador system, we can:

-Steal terran cutting-edge technology (always a plus!)

-Deal a HUGE symbolic blow to Kingston & his credibility.

The symbol and seat of the Confederacy's wealth RAZED by the Zerg and their scientific secrets pilfered by the same Zerg. Right after Kingston, the seemingly-untouchable and infalliable leader, led a costly battle against Protoss that didn't need/want to be fought BECAUSE he thought he saw some Zerg somewhere. It'll be a HUGE blow to Kingston's political career, and may signal other Terran politicians to turn on the Propaganda machine and start undermining his rule.

Gorn's air forces turn on a dime toward the science vessels. The first five are destroyed before they can break the atmosphere, and the last one's engines are destroyed before an overlord pushes it lightly toward the world, allowing gravity to take its toll.

Warbrate's landing parties tear Tyrador IX's inhabitants apart across four continents. Zerglings rampage through gardens, hydralisks rip through the cords holding city-sized balloons in place, and mutalisks spew glaive wurms through enviro-bubbled ice sculptures of celebrities. The fat tourists and the emaciated staff run alike through the streets, cut down like the insignificants that they are.

The strange readings from Tyrador VIII increase. Our forces feel a kind of whistling.

The Protoss assets are halfway through glassing their mining colony.

The fleet over Shakuras has changed its bombardment pattern. A few hundred valkyries, about as many wraiths, and five battlecruisers maintain orbit, while the rest break off and turn. All indications point to them preparing to jump away.

I would suggest just taking the air units and bolting. The ground units are the cheap ones anyway and would be the hardest to just get out of town.

Sacrifice the ground units to save time and have them do what damage they can, pull the fleets for an attack on the resort planet. If anything we can mildly tick off kingston.

Also make sure to have a few dozen overlords each group off and haul the largest chunks of Science vessel away. I have a feeling those were loaded with all the doodads that were too valuble to blow up and recreate later.

The whistling is still very faint, but we are observant enough to notice that it is intensifying, building. Our forces switch focus, leaving the half-destroyed resort planet and turning toward the research world. Our overlords are more sensitive to the squeal, and we quickly deduce that the source of the noise is from the northernmost continent, near the magnetic north pole. There are several compounds that could be responsible, three of them military, and two of them civilian.

(One vote to bring the Protoss home. Need more)

All of the forces except those left to bombard the planet jump away from Shakuras as the second wave of modified valkyries finishes its barrage. The atmosphere is now definitely toxic to Protoss and Terran alike, and filled with radiation. Flames rage across the surface, and the battlecruisers are firing at it seemingly at random from orbit.

Have our protoss immediately engage the pirate forces; they're more likely to have good combat experience than the militia. Hopefully we can scrub them to dust before the militia show up for the party.

Secondly, question: Has the range of the whistling decreased with the destruction of the other four bases? If not, then the weapon wasn't linked and is probably just as deadly, despite being down four counterparts.

If the range is still just as large; nuke the site.
If it has noticeably weakened at a distance, proceed to storm the gates. Throw our heavy-hitters directly at the Goliaths and have a shitload of zerglings stream through the gates and rip n' tear anything living or dead.

The Protoss forces engage the pirates over the farming world. When the (metaphorical) smoke clears, the Terran privateers and the sparse militia are both destroyed, but the engines on one of our carriers is brutally damaged. Repairs will take hours, if not a full day.

    <><><><>

Gorn delights in pressing the lines of the ground forces into a suicide charge against the goliaths as Warbrate takes the air units against the tower. As the mechs are winnowed down to their last line, slowing our forces only slightly, a mutalisk's glaive wurm causes one wall of the tower to collapse, revealing a hollow interior. Inside is a tall satellite dish of some kind, glowing orange in several spots and surrounded by cowering scientists. Personally I'd rather deplete the Protoss assets, but then again it wasn't a Conclave world that was attacked.

Make it 3 for attack and 1 for retreat. I don't suppose the Conclave will have a prompt retaliation if at all.

It is kind of a big decision.

1 more for attack. Considering the Terran fleet was bigger than we thought it would be, they can rebuild to fight the Toss anyway.
    >> Anonymous 02/10/11(Thu)00:50 No.13846279
Get that scientist we captured out of there (and eat his delicious brain), but beyond that... Attack. Their nuclear payloads have been expended, they've sustained damage, and we're hungry.
    >> Anonymous 02/10/11(Thu)00:54 No.13846333
looks like we are attacking lets at least get Gorn out there and run through the lab use berny to jump in right after there fleet to attack :)

    (Betrayal in the ranks!)

Gorn and Warbrate switch commands, allowing the frenzied fighter to fan its forces into the sky as the other organizes the retrieval of ground forces to entrench themselves on the orbital platforms, where they will be able to offer the most resistance to the fleet. The sky is dark with Zerg, and the air thick with anticipation as the first booms of arriving battlecruisers signal the beginning of the battle.

    <><><><>

A third of the agricultural world is glassed as a fleet of ships we do not recognize arrive. They consist of two models, one looking like a much larger version of the other. Their hulls are silvery, like the metals of the Terrans, but sleek and winged vaguely like the Protoss scouts. We detect a startling number of signatures that indicate that each larger vessel is carrying between one and three nuclear missiles. There is an odd comm signal we can't quite pinpoint between the ships.

    <><><><>

Over Shakuras, the planet is little more than slag in space, a giant irradiated mass. Most of the bombardment fleet pulls away and jumps to warp, but one battlecruiser lags behind as a dropship enters the system. It is obviously damaged, and emitting a faint distress call. We detect ten Terrans aboard.

(What fresh horrors are these, you ask?
What shall become of Kingston's mighty fleet, you ask?
Why is Cerebrate Anon talking like this, you ask?

FIND OUT NEXT WEEK, on ZERG QUEST!)

Sorry to cut out early, but that was a very handy stopping point. Next week's going to be a doozy.

Well, looks like that "simple attack on an agriworld" is going to bite us in the ass.
I hope you guys are happy with yourselves, because I won't be until you're screaming for death as Bernie administers his ministrations upon your tender flesh.

We have no idea if they're there to nuke us, or the Terrans. Or even what they are. Given the "odd signal" between the ships I'm inclined to assume either the smaller ones are drones, or we're dealing with some kind of hivemind race. Cylons?

I figured the whole 'engine damaged, you can't leave for hours' thing was gonna be important, I just thought you were gonna make the Terran fleet jump in to the agri-world instead of to our Zerg assault force.

Don't take that as confirmation of your VoidGate theory. I was just saying that you answered my "I sometimes give you things that don't immediately attack you, don't I?" question.

You'll learn what this fleet of shiny death ships is about...
