Well shit guys, something came up and I wasn't able to start the thread at 8 like I promised. But here we are, time for Lizard Quest Part 4.
In advance I'd like to warn everyone that I'm going to have to make this quest a bit shorter than the first 3, and I won't be able to run Lizard Quest again until this Friday (probably around 10:00-11:00 EST/GMT-5)

    Previous Lizard Quests archived here:
    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Lizard%20Quest

We'll start off where we left off.

You rush into the water and quickly swim across the river. The constructs seem to notice you now, but are clearly not designed for combat, and you sever their heads and arms with ease. The river has cooled some, but the elves have all been paralyzed by the whistling and most have drowned by the time you finish off the last construct. There is clearly an underwater entrance to the city, as you remember seeing the constructs emerge from underwater, but it is unlikely that you will be able to find it quickly. You could probably climb the wall and dig through the mud filling the hole, especially if these constructs are any indication of the city's security.

Oh dear, it appears Lizard Quest has been allowed to slide all the way to page 6. I shall bump it this once, but if it remains unnoticed much longer, I shall simply give up for tonight. I may try again another night, but if it is ignored twice, I shall conclude that /tg/ has lost interest in Lizard quest and discontinue it.

The Great Potato Lizard fled town after Ouroboros killed Henry the wizard. We then swam downriver until we came to a city. After an incident with a magical cage trap, Douggle wrecked shit and blew a hole in the wall of the city. Hundreds of elves pour out of the hole in the wall, trying to escape, but they're captured by many-armed constructs, which the Great Potato Lizard then destroys. Unfortunately, the elves are killed in the battle.

    >>13402922
After several minutes, you surface for air, having failed to find the entrance.
Nothing's stopping you from searching until you find it, but keep in mind that whatever's in the city knows you're here now, and the longer you spend searching for the entrance, the more time they have to prepare.

You consult Ouroboros on the matter. "We've seen these constructs in action! They're no match for my magic or your claws. Even if some are designed for combat, I think we can still destroy them. There's no need to waste time climbing all the way up this wall."

This feels a bit like railroading to me, but it's not actually meant that way.
Honestly though, I didn't actually consider the possibility of you climbing all the way over the wall, so if you pick that I'll take another minute or two to reply while thinking that through.

Ouroboros burns a huge rune of explosion into the wall, and activates it. You quickly climb horizontally along the wall and begin to dig through the mud.
It's lucky too, because not even a Lesser Nonspecific could have held onto the stone wall when it shook like the explosion made it. The mud, however, is softer, and you are able to dig deep enough in to hold on, despite the shaking. After several minutes of digging, you finally break through. The wall is nearly 15 feet thick!
You see about a dozen constructs circled around a cracked section of the wall. The rune of explosion may not have broken all the way through, but it has distracted the guards while you tunneled through the mud. These guards are very different from the constructs you fought outside. They are built like centipedes, with an upright humanoid torso. Imagine a centaur, but more horrifying in every way. For arms, each construct has a dozen jointed spears on each side of its body.
You have about a minute before the guards realize that you are not coming through the damaged section of the wall and look back in your direction.

Shit, spears are bad news. They may be fragile, but we don't want to become a pincushion.

What's beyond the wall? Is it a city, factory, what? If we stick to the wall, we could climb out of spear range and have Ouroboros throw green fire down as we run along the inside of the wall.

You see a large flat area. The ground is about 5 feet below you. You appear to have broken into a square room about 100 yards by 100 yards. The ceiling is about 100 feet above the floor. Huge double doors stand open on the far side of the room, but you cannot see out, as the doorway is filled with thick smoke.

The elves stare at you fearfully, not sure what to do.
"Good day, gentlecreatures. Pray tell, do you know how many of your kind are enslaved here?"
They stare at you blankly, then one of them says, "All are here. All serve the Steel King. In his shadow we labor. In his image will we be remade." They all stare at you for a moment longer, and then seem to snap out of a daze. "Wait - you killed the guard! We're... we're free! Thank you, stranger, whatever you may be. There are hundreds of thousands of us imprisoned here, we build machines for the Steel King. We don't know exactly what he is, but he takes the machines we make and enchants them into weapons. When one of us grows old, we are fitted with an outer body and our souls are drained to make a construct like the ones that guard the slaves."
A loud CLANG from some machinery nearby startles the speaker and he drops to the ground in a fetal position. A moment later, he gets back up and asks, "Do... Do you know a way out? How we might escape?"

Interesting idea, but it looks like the majority wants to forge ahead with the elves.

"The way out is blocked by battle-constructs. However, I'm sure we can find another way out. If you come with me and assist me in finding the Steam King, I will protect you as best I can."
They agree after a long moment of discussion amongst themselves.
"This way." One of them walks ahead, following the tunnel up until it opens into a huge open space.
You are standing on a platform overlooking a huge pit. A giant tower, covered with moving parts and machinery stands in the middle of the pit. Sunlight is being focused by carefully arranged crystals on the tower, and redirected by a series of mirrors to somewhere at the base of the tower. All around the pit you can see constructs moving and working. You don't see any slaves for a moment, but then you spot them working around the edges. The constructs clearly don't allow them to get too close to the tower, as the parts they carry in are taken immediately and the elves are practically thrown out of the area.
"We believe that the Steel King is at the base of the tower."
It is a huge drop. You could never survive falling that far, but you think you could climb down the wall safely.
