    "Allies gather against the shadow,
    But in the dark the...the...
    huh."
    -Lebron James

The man sits on the fence rail, holding a thread in his teeth and working a needle in and out of the brownish-green fabric of his torn pants. Satisfied with his work, he bites the end of the thread, tucking the needle and spool away.
Within a few seconds, the handcrafted stitch slowly unwinds itself, the pants returning to their previous state. The man blinks, then looks around, scratching his head.

"Just read the card," says a young brown-haired girl approaching him. She pats him on the shoulder reassuringly, smiling brightly and obscuring her other arm from him, where exposed burnt circuitry mark her true identity, and the result of a near-death encounter.
He picks up the laminated card on a chain around his neck, studying it wonderingly.

Behind them, a stern red-haired man sits in the back of the Jeep parked along the shoulder of the road, bundled in his trench coat. He stares sullenly at the pair on the fence, and the woman in the cow-field beyond.

"Oh, man, I needed that..." Garfield sighs, the last tendrils of blood slipping back under your skin. You rise from your kneeling position, surveying the burnt-clean, somewhat charred cow skeleton before you.
"That should keep you going for a while," you murmur to your blood.

"Miss Helen, what are we going to do now?" Clara calls to you.

You're not quite sure. Your "rescue" of the Archivist didn't exactly go as planned, and instead of the rush of clarity, you are not gifted only the fact that there is some sort of malevolence maneuvering the events of the past few months.

That's kinda the point. And sure he can summon flame arms, but what happens if we (for some reason) need him to drive? Or carry someone? Or use a goddamn radio?
BTW, I wasn't saying that we were going to give them to him (it might not even work for lost limbs, which is why I brought up the tooth), but that we should think about it.

    >You have a full set of teeth. The only wounds on you are the ones just made by the blood exiting your arms, and a few minor bruises you've obtained fleeing from the Slender Man.

You hop the fence, heading over to Creed. He nods at your approach.
"So what's the story with you, anyway?" you ask.
"Why were you serving Ramiel to begin with?"

"He is clearly an Angel of the Lord," Creed responds, as though this explains everything. "Not only that, he successfully wields the supersentience of the Prime Shard. I have pledged loyalty to him until death."

Here's the thing. Can we affect this sentience? Is it in our power to uncover it right now? Probably not, or probably only be intensive investigation of the Arkham situation.

So my plan - carry on with what we've been doing. Hell, roll a dice to see which number we go after next. Anything to introduce an element of randomness to the plan.

You keep a straight face, to your credit.
"Any idea what Ramiel's hoping to find out?"
Creed shrugs. "Once I held the sword. Ramiel says I nearly lost myself completely. I blacked out for two days. I don't have the strength to remain myself, much less comprehend its aims."
You chew your lip pensively, then dig out the bottle of pills.
"Creed...I want you to take one of these. They saved my life when I was irradiated by 19, even grew my tooth back."
    Creed glares at you.
"I don't need your pity or your charity."
You hold out the bottle for him to take. His brow furrows, and you blush slightly.
"Shit...sorry. But really, take one. It'll make us even, at least."
He fumes for a moment, then opens his mouth. You place a panacea upon his tongue, and he swallows the small pill easily.
"I...don't feel anything," he says after several seconds.

Your face falls. "Maybe it just..."
Creed has stopped listening to you. He raises his arm stumps, sweat forming on his brow. His pupils dilate as his eyes go wide, staring at the now-pulsating, twitching flesh.
The lumpy skin on his arms bursts open, blood and bone surging forth. He screams, and you step back as he is wreathed in flames, probably some kind of reflex. Slowly you watch bones grow out from his crippled arms like trees, branching into rudimentary fingers. Muscular and nervous structures follow, twining tendons and nerve endings growing like weeds around the trunks of his new bones. Finally, veins and then skin crawl outwards, growing like a time-lapse photograph. Finally he sits, panting in the charred seat of the Jeep, staring dumbfounded at a new pair of arms.

"I..." he stares at them, tentatively flexing his fingers.
"Yeah, just don't set us on fire. And don't look at us like you're going to."

Creed stares at his hands for several more seconds before even realizing you're still there. He looks at your extended fist, confused, before slowly extending his nascent hand, soft skin connecting with yours in his new arm's first act.
"Oh hey! you fixed him!" Clara says, as she and Brody approach.
"You didn't need to do that," Creed says, stretching his new arms. "But I thank you for it. I rescind my hateful words, and believe me, there were many. It took a great deal of faith to wager on both the pill's effectiveness and my own forgiveness."

You examine the room; much of it seems to be mundane radio equipment/information; this was an NPR station. However, you find a composition notebook that looks promising; the first few pages are scrawled with sigils like those on the wall.

You check several of the computers for data; it doesn't appear that 33 was using any of them to store information, which makes sense in retrospect.
Examining the symbols, you notice a few repeated between the wall and the notebook. You THINK a few of them may resemble the symbols your blood can form, but it's a completely alien alphabet to you, so you're not sure.
Still wary, you depart. For expedience, Clara rests 33 against the wall of the radio station, in view of the sun's last purple-tinted rays. She covers the bottom part of her face with her hands as Creed ignites the body, incinerating it within a few minutes.
"Talk about a downer," Garfield exclaims. You nod.

"We should get a phone or something and then hole up for the night," Creed says after the deed is done and the ashes scattered. "We can figure out where to go from there"

"That cow really hit the spot earlier," your blood responds. "In general, though, I think I'm just as haggard as you are. It's been pretty nonstop around here."
You nod. "It has at that."
"But we've been doing a lot of good, and you have to appreciate that," Garfield says. "As good as it feels to bring a situation under control, everything we're doing feels sort of overshadowed by 13. We need to figure out a way to stop her, sooner rather than later."
    "Any ideas?"

You head next door, reminding Brody to "read the card if things get confusing."
Clara grins broadly as she opens the door.
"Miss Helen!" she says aloud. In the corner of the room, Creed sits on his feet, hands clasped in prayer. The tip of the "steeple" of his hands glows with a tiny point of fire.
"I was wondering what exactly you're capable of," you ask. "I mean no offense."
"No, of course not!" she says, waving it off. "I possess physical strength many times that of the average human, and i have a rudimentary rail cannon built into my arm," she splits her left arm like she did when you met; thankfully, it's not the broken one.
"What about data management? What sort of readouts can you take?"
"My mind has been designed to approximate the human brain, first and foremost. I believe my designer was trying to challenge himself by replicating the adolescent human mind. I think he did a pretty good job!" she laughs brightly.
"That being said, I do have sensors beyond that of a normal person. I can detect temperature and barometric pressure, as well as radiation. I also have nightvision and thermal viewing modes, if required."

"That's a good question," you say. "Who DID design you?"
"I...." Clara opens her mouth to speak, but then shuts it puzzled. "That...I always assumed 33 designed and constructed me, but now that you mention it, he never explicitly said. I remember nothing before working with him, so I just...drew my own conclusions..."

"What do you think about Creed?" You ask Garfield after leaving Clara's room [if there are more questions for her, this takes place after those].
"His religious beliefs seem to be founded in completely illogical assumptions about the way the world works," Garfield muses. "But at the same time, it would be foolish to turn down more help. We should keep him around, even if it's only to keep our lines open for Ramiel's information. If he ever gets any information; sanctimonious prick."

The only thing is," she says, putting a finger to her bottom lip, "things were never very exciting working with 33. Even when we escaped, we came here, and he tried to send out the radio signal, to tell people what they needed to do, but it was never very exciting. Frightening, maybe..."
"What's the first thing you remember? Maybe you can remember someone else that could fix you?"
"Several of the Arkham employees were skilled enough to perform rudimentary repairs; they all marveled at the complexity of my interior designs, but maybe one of them could fix my arm, at least. And the first thing I remember...hmmm...I remember waking up, opening my eyes, and being frightened and confused. I had information, but I didn't know how. I had no memories, but I knew how to scan the room's temperature, my skin could feel the relative windspeed. I think my mind was made too human, I was shocked by these foreign senses. And then 33 was there, telling me everything was going to be all right, that I was going to be his helper, that I was going to help him protect people. Brody nods slowly. "That's what the card says anyway. This is all so confusing!"
"I'm sure it is. Try to think for me, what's the last thing you remember before you were here?"
"Let's see...I was part of the force pushing against the Hindenburg Line...we were trenched in for the night, and I was..." he smiles and laughs, "I was thinking about my girl back home. God, her kids are probably old women by now...if she ever had any kids." he looks out the window at the night sky.
"I was looking up at the stars, as sure as I am now, and I saw one streak across the sky," he traces an arc with his finger. "And I stood there in the dirt, and I wished as hard as I could that I would live through that war, so I could see her again, so I could...hold her again," his eyes well up with tears. "Ain't that just the damndest?" he half-whispers, one tear rolling down his cheek. As you watch, the tear dries up right on his face, tracing its rivulet back to his eye, which flickers, his lids blinking rapidly a few times. He looks at you, cocking his head.

    >Read notebook
You lie on the hotel bed, paging through the notebook. Luckily, the strange symbols last for about ten pages before there is a message written in English, in a careful, elegant script:

If you are reading this, then you are either the cleverest of thieves, or I am gone.
The little girl in Miami is Subject 13, the physical host to a vast cosmic intelligence; perhaps intelligence is the wrong choice of words. Attentiveness is more appropriate.
The military's efforts have no doubt been ineffective against the creature; while a nuclear strike would certainly destroy the physical shell, they no doubt began with more mundane weaponry, and the cosmic mind was able to divine their intentions and counter further actions against it.
The hard truth: The world you know, dear reader, is not the world as it is. Beyond the pale curtain of our world lie vast and terrifying infinities the likes of which even I have only the barest glimpses.
Beyond our wretched Earth alien and savage laws reign supreme, and it is these laws that must unmake the unfathomable entities we face.
Theodore Arkham is the man that would know best if I am dead, and he is not an easy figure to contact. Beyond that, there is rumored to be a labrynthine library of secrets that would no doubt hold the answers, but it lies in the void of space, somewhere within our own solar system, but still a veritable needle in a haystack of cosmic proportions.
They called me "the man with the answers." I wish that were true. But I have given you all the relevant knowledge that I can put to paper regarding this gravest of threats.
Hopefully mere paranoia has forced me to construct this physical record.

Kind of metagaming but, I imagine trying to revive 33 won't work by simple virtue of the fact that StonerDM doesn't want us to have all the answers neatly handed to us. So the pill will either fail or something will otherwise make 33 unable to answer us like the Slender Man showing up again just to silence 33.

Oddly enough this gives us some insight into the Siren and Gorgon. If they are directly controlling the population (which may not be so):

-) They may have a grudge against Canada
-) They are not invading the US, so it is possible they have some sort of national identity we may be able to use in diplomacy
-) If we are the poster boy for Arkham, their captors then all diplomatic leverage will likely go out of the window.

Ask Walters if he knows how the Siren and Gorgon work....for example does their 'control' extend to machines...like Clara.

If not we got the perfect sniper.

As per usual, excellent session, Stonerbro. What time will you be starting tommorow?

Also, the lines are kind of blurring together for me at the moment-to me, session one was only a few hours ago. I fucking loved Ninety Six, that giant space spider. I'm sad we had to fight it...after reading it, and reading how it was "Taken out of forests", my jaw dropped, and I just said "Holy fucking shit, we're fighting Anansi." Maybe now it sees us as more of an equal...or a threat. If it weren't pissed about us murdering its' brood and carpet bombing it, I'd say diplomacy...

...On that note, excellent character development session. I'm liking Cilian-I'm liking the idea of a "Fire of God" fanatic, burning everything in his path.

I'd really like to attempt to confirm if any given subject is totally hostile before offing them. I know it's easier just to kill everything, but... by that logic, wouldn't we have killed ourselves?

"Precognitive, infested by some alien life form that gives her eat people with her blood."

"Hmm, I'd say a sniper rifle, since melee could get bad for us, but that precognitive bit could be trouble. We'll need something she can't dodge even if she knows it's coming."

See where I'm going with this? We have to attempt to render opponents nonhostile rather than deceased, whenever possible. It might not always be practical, but that doesn't mean we have an excuse to not try.

19 is the only one we've killed I feel remotely bad about, if he's even dead.

While I do agree with taking non-violent action against non-violent npcs such as with 88, I think the Siren and Gorgon are probably beyond that given that they took over a state, succeeded from the US, and then invaded Canada. 88 might have just been countering anyone who attacked him, while these 2 seem to being attacking people unprovoked.

    >Ethical arguments? In my Bloodquest? It's more likely than you think.

You guys remember when you were almost evil? Good times.

Hey, just cause we had a villainous lair, doesn't mean we were evil, just confused.
I mean, who did we eat, a Hobo before we knew what we were doing, and an attempted mugger?
Granted, meeting up with 54 definitely put us in the right direction.

I was thinking of your moral quandary in Kansas when you finally made the decision to stop devouring people.

    Also, go to bed!

This reminds me. I chuckled a little when I realized 88 was doing pretty much what we were doing in the first few Bloodquests.
