05/13/10(Thu)00:14 No.9784959Professor Malcolm Guile was the individual who originally proposed an alternative to steam, stating that it was too inefficient. Of course, a few of his colleagues suggested a completely new and innovative science, based off of ‘electricity’. “Nonsense!” said Guile, “we just need to find something to replace steam!” The search took over half a decade and it was on the sixth year where he was forced to look into forbidden texts for this holy grail of science, this alternative to steam. In a book written in the dead language of a land long since swallowed up by the ocean, he read paragraphs on the subject of a material lighter than air yet denser than stone.
Quickly, Guile gathered the best theurgists of the state and with the nation’s funding and the threat of punishment if he failed, he had the cult draw a dodecagram and beneath a new moon, begin the ritual that would transmute a kilogram of mercury into the same quantity of this mystery metal. He called it the Guile Particle. After another year of experiments and the funding rapidly dwindling, he finally came up with a solution. He coated a large mesh net with the strange liquid metal and named it an ‘Iron Curtain’. It was placed in a steam engine, in the chimney beneath the turbine and finally the experiment was launched and the engine was fired up. |
