Well, I'm going to try for a second thread in a week. HOLD ON TO YOUR BUTTS.

You are David Lister, Ace Pilot for the Zeonic Military. You've done a lot in the last 7-8 months as this war has dragged on.
From Railway battles, deep sea dogfighting with balls, winning against Dozle Zabi and Shin Matsunaga in a mock battle, conquering middle america by yourself, destroying most of Rosswell, getting the first MS to MS kill of the war, and who can forget the time you spent an entire day hunting for a phantom Aircraft Carrier that did not exist?

But now you face your greatest challenge of them all... preventing Zolomon Ringo from causing a political incident.

    Good Luck. You'll need it.

It is the aftermath of the training exercise between your team and the Midnight Fenrir.
Oh and there may have been some rookies in there as well, whatever.
Okay, to be fair, they did okay actually all things considering.

In anycase the team are currently dismounting and cleaning up. You have a couple of hours to waste before the big Soiree that you will all be attending later tonight.
It's a pretty big deal as pretty much all of the locals supporting the Zeon war effort here in the US will be there. The general theme is to give the impression that Zeon are going to win this war, and that the money isn't runnning, despite how much of theirs we're borrowing.

To be frank, you could do with Wyatt Bandit turning up in some ridiculous Waterproof Hyper Gundam-X or something, so that you could give it a miss.

Still, such are the downsides of rank.
So, you have a couple of free hours, anything you'd like to do?

    YOUR ORDERS IF ANY?
    >> Anonymous 05/08/10(Sat)12:28 No.9689449
... hmm. It's awfully quiet for a ZQ thread. Then again, it works for me, since I just finished 0079 and started to read the backlog starting from thread 1.

Apart from that, though, I just made a strange discovery. Watching Victory Gundam gives me migraines for some reason. I wonder if it's some sort of neurological reaction to the derp.

Background question, been nagging me since yesterday's discussion about neutrality:

How does this neutral colonies and regional governments thing work?

I thought the reasons for this entire war boiled down to the Federation - acting as a united world government - opposed Zeonic independence.

But now we are knee deep in 'neutral parties' and 'regional governments' and the Federation does jack all about that?

Why do we fight at all then?
    >> Anonymous 05/08/10(Sat)12:58 No.9689848
    >>9689807
The Earth Federation represents a union of major earth nations allied together. They don't represent the ENTIRE earth though. Also, after the colony drop, a lot of major governments have fractured.

Additionally, there are a number of neutral colonies in space that didn't want to get involved with all the fighting and didn't side with Zeon.
    >> Anonymous 05/08/10(Sat)12:59 No.9689863

Because we mirror the second World War here to a degree. Of course without the colonial issue and all the other additional issues that made that war because Gundam's a show about children shooting people with robots.

The only real neutral parties are ones that only were able to secure their neutrality at the start of the war. Plus, the only neutral sides in this are Von Braun City on the Moon (which supplies you both with much needed resources) and Side 6 (which acts like the IMF for both sides with is large scale trading contacts and strong banking sector).

Everyone else are simply people who used to bow and scrape (and bribe) the Feds, and who now do the same to you.
Remember, Zeon has fuck all manpower to ACTUALLY occupy and run the Earth if they win, they kind of need local help to do anything.

Basically inform the hangars that HE DOES NOT GET THE ROBOT BUT THE HOSE between whenever the party starts and the party ends.

Have Bernie and Jolyn watch him, Jolyin is in charge.
Ask the Honour Guard if they can at least keep an eye on him and give us a ring if he does *anything* stupid.

We might also want to call a callgirl or something and pay her to stick close to him. Get one with some edcuation and tell her that we'll pay her extra if she keeps him out of trouble. (also: There might be lulz in that)

You are all currently clustered around a decent table of finger foods. Zolomon is helping himself, somewhat reservedly thankfully.

Dignitaries are orbiting about Garma like planets, along with talking to themselves. Char is somewhere in a corner you suspect, possibly a good idea so he doesn't have to answer inane questions.

You see Icelina trying to get Garma's attention unssuccessfully as he is politely mobbed by dignitaries. If she want's to get a quiet moment you're going to have take a one for the team and distract the dignitaries somehow.

They might get tired and move on to hobnobbing with each other if you wait you suppose.

    Good answer.

You first regale him about tales of fighting the enemy Drill Tanks and then you are able to change the subject to what he does for a living.
Transpires that his company switched to biofuels about 10 years ago as fossil fuel reserves became prohibitively expensive to drill for.
Probably a good thing he sold all of those Oil Rigs to various penitentiary services.

Bad luck for the Prisoners though.

Anyway, after managing to waste some time with him, some other guy you don't recognise asks you:

"So, Mr Lister? What are your opinions on the new Federal Mobile suits?"

Furthermore, the Federation Industrial advantage is focused on mass producing tanks and spaceships. These are the first Mobile Suits they are making and they are unlikely to be prepared to start mass producing them like Zeon can. By the time they are ready to do so, Zeon will have new suits that surpass them effortlessly.

Jolyne, David, and Elaine all have the most Dom experience. So unless we want Bernie in the Act, that's where Zol goes. He's got plenty of Zaku sticktime to his name, and he's used to High Performance, non-Dom style suits. Thus it suits him best. Especially since we don't have the Beam Rifle.

And the Act can use the 330mm, it just has to be stationary when firing.

With a debonair declaration that duty calls you sweep out with the rest of your squad behind you. You see Icelina moving towards a pair of double doors with a small private plane behind it.

    "Where's she going?" You ask.

"She says she's worried about Garma and says she's going to join him."

"Not in that dinky plane she's not, grab her, we'll take her with us on the Outer Heaven. Someone grab me a comm line with Airport, get them to meet us here."

Zolomon runs off towards an aide whilst Elaine goes looking for a hardline phone to use.

Minutes later you get a direct link up with Mauser, who is now the 1st Mate of the Outer Heaven (and occaisionally pilots to keep his hand in.)

"I've got bad news David, the Outer Heavens reactors offline for the night, we developed a worrying niggle on the trip over and we were forced to replace it. We can't get to you, and Garma just took all of the air transport options so we can't get the Mobile Suits to you."

You order Hovis to get his hands on a vehicle and try and get back to the Outer Heaven and start up the Rhino.

Meanwhile you all manage to reach the Gallop, you can hear the nuclear fanjets spooling up.
The face of a somewhat haggard land cruiser captain, obviously only just woken up appears on your screen.

"We're going to get moving in seconds. 3 of you get inside. The rest will have to ride on the sides. After they've been rearmed you swap. Understood?"
Icelina has already reached the Cruiser it appears and you can see her in the background.

Ah, well. Icelina's presence hopefully contains Garma's suicidial tendencies. That aside, we still need to tactfully contain Char's nefarious schemes. As such, we are propably going to need to act as the buffer between the Trojan Horse and the Wonderfagbot - I mean, Gundam.

So instead of chewing Garma out, we should radio in that we couldn't keep Icelina from reaching the front, but that we'll do our best to keep the enemy at bay while his highness takes positions at distance.

Wow. I guess he came to realize it might be better to listen to the more experienced and genre-savvy pilots after seeing the Gaws go.

But I'd advise against cornering White Base. The thought of getting into a last man standing-fight with it is a bit... frightening. Contain and engage the mobile suits with ours in a careful fashion, while treating the battleship as a target of opportunity.

    Nnngh...

If the signal's that poor, he's probably too far away to get to without exposing ourselves to fire from the White Base defensive turrets.

    ... But...

Okay. Thinking about this, our J-Type crew are best equipped for anti-White Base work. Their heavier zooks will stand a good chance of doing some damage. If the Gundam is accounted for, they aren't at nearly as much risk on their own, taking shots at it.

    Okay...

"Zolomon, with me. We're going to bail out the Red Comet. Jol, you have command of the White Base strike squad. Do as much damage as you can, but get out if it looks like you're in trouble."

We take the Act and Zol's Gouf and go after Char's reported position. Jolyne in the F2 and the rest of our squad in the J-types continue advancing towards White Base until the guys with 330s feel confident they can get good shots. Jol watches their backs while they do that.

You relay a signal back to him as you try to call in the Midnight Fenrir.
They're almost out of the combat zone, but luckily they are nearer to him than you and you're able to give his co-ordinates to the team.

Meanwhile you see one of the Gaws plow into a ruined building and explode. The other manages to loop around towards the Trojan Horse, it's beam cannons lance out, and an explosion blossoms on the Trojan Horses portside missile launchers.

The enemy vessel returns fire, you all dash forwards to try and draw it's fire at close range but it's only response is to try and move away from you like a scalded cat.
You see explosions from the Gaw, it loses some of it's control surfaces and starts to fall apart as what was a close assault run turns into a suicide charge.

As the dust clears and you pick yourself up from the ground, you see the Trojan Horse rising up, it's on fire, covered in dust and dirt, but it seems to have managed to dodge the main explosion. It must have been when the plane lost both of it's wings.

    AFTERMATH.

In a tense battle, the Gundam managed to outmaneouver Char and the Midnight Fenrir, neither side took losses, and Midnight Fenrir inflicted punishing damages to the Gundam before Trojan Horse came to it's rescue and retreated out to sea.
It looks like whilst you may be the best overall ace team in this war, Midnight Fenrir are the masters of urban warfare at this point. Using a combination of minovsky emitters and smoke grenades they poured on enough fire to shred a company of Zaku's without killing it.
Nevertheless, it put the pilot heavily on the defensive, which gave Char plenty of oppoutunities to get hit's of his own in.
A normal MS would be in the shop for a week, the Gundam's modular nature means that wont be the case.

Captain Fontaine's military funeral is scheduled for when you return to California tommorow. Acting CAptain Mauser is promoted to full captain. Garma nominates you and him for the Zeon Cross for helping save his life. Fontaine also get's a posthumous promotion to Rear Admiral as well.

Where do we go from here though?
Who knows? WELCOME TO THE REAL AU TERRITORY NOW GENTLEMEN.

    TO BE CONTINUED...

I for one surely do not care one bit about ablating the plot armour on that thing.

We have our own main antagonist to defeat plus we have a war to win.

Neither is being achieved by going full on retarded and throwing us again and again against White Base, and getting horribly raped every time.

With a proper development cycle on the Gouf, Ramba Ral might make a real difference in our battle with White Base.

And yes, Gundam has plot armor, but we have advancing technology. It's their only significant prototype weapon right now - if we can hold on long enough, we can get some superior weaponry and find a way to destroy it before the Federation makes significant advances in its technology.

Plus his wife is hot, so he must be doing something right.

He picked up the printed missive from the earth-war and reads it. His eyes widen in shock.

    "Adrian Fontaine is...!?"

"Not Fontaine?!" he wife comments beside him.
In front, the pilots whisper to each other:
    "Who's Fontaine?"
"He was with the Captain through the Academy, I hear they were old drinking buddies right up until the start of the war. Who do you think taught him how to Captain a Ship?"

Not hearing this discussion, Ramba Ral crushes the paper in his fist.

    ANOTHER OMAKE

"May I have some water please?" Degwin Zabi asks his son as his cough persists.

    "Of course father."
Gihren pours another glass and hands it to him. He gulps it down quickly and continues his discussion.

"I hear brother Garma had another close call with the Federations Trojan Horse." Gihren comments.

"He's been putting himself on the front [cough!] more than he should[cough!] I feel."

"I rather think it's the front coming to him. As a member of the glorious Zabi family, he is of course a priority target by the federation."

Degwin continues to cough. He pours himself another drink.

"Is your health, not as good as it was Father? Perhaps it is the strain of these wartime duties? Perhaps you should delegate it to younger hands?"

"I'm not [cough!] so old that I have [cough!] to hand [cough!] you the [cough!] the [cough!] the reins just..." the rest of the sentence is drowned in yet more coughing. He grasps out at the pitcher but Gihren snatches it from him.

"It probably would be best if you didn't take any more of this father, we don't want you to suffer something permanent now."

"The water!? [cough!] Giren! [cough!] You..."

"It seems that all of this stress and strain has made you quite unwell, it would be best if you were given time to relax, away from ALL distractions for a while I think... But don't worry, I'm sure I'll muddle by."

Degwin collapses unconcious. Gihren checks his fathers pulse and breathing and only after making sure, calls for a doctor.

I'll take that as a no.

I had a backup plan incase that didnt work out. We know that a Dom heat saber will hold up against a beam saber for a little under 2 seconds. I propose we raid Zol's Heat Hawk storage bay, strap some of them together side by side so that the outer 'blade' sides will form a solid plate.

Fire our beam rifle into it to see how well that deflects it or slows it down.

Well if you're going to bump I might as well continue.

Von Braun. This is the place where the Feddies are getting their Luna Titanium. As long as we dont have the stuff the Federation can start equipping their MS with cheaper weapons like MG's and bazookas. With it we'll be forcing the feddies to commit resources to building more beam weapons. (Maybe not a good thing, it might force them to equip the mass prduction GM lines with something better than a beam spray gun.)

Either way someone of importance needs to visit Von Braun and open negotiations for the titanium. They're neutral, we're not unreasonable. LET'S. MAKE. A DEAL.

What can the Feddies do about it? Not much other than 1) try and kill the ambassador we send, 2) blockade the city (pissing them off) or 3) invade and take over, stomping all over their neutrality.

If we cant convince them to deal we send in special forces and neutralise the production lines. Doesnt make us look any nicer but meh.
