I was running a game today and one of my players criticised me for something. I'm a big enough boy to accept that I'm not perfect but the complaint he made was... well, pic related.

He said, and I wish I was making it up, that it was unfair for me to run combats against their characters because I knew their stats.

In a Mutants and Masterminds game, one player wanted to make a guy who had spent all his powers on the Additional Limbs power.

He keeps complaining that I didn't let him make Ball Of Arms Man to this day.

It's a hilarious concept, I agree, but mechanically he'd be useless. There's no mechanical benefit to more than one rank in Additional Limbs.

I houserule that more arms gives you higher lifting strength like Super-Strength and more legs gives you a greater movement rate like the Speed power, so with those modifications Ball Of Arms Man might be viable.

It resulted in all of us going "What? No, that's retarded" and then laughing at him for five minutes straight. There was a game of Vampire going on in the same room as us and some of their players came over to see what all the laughing was about. So we told them. And they started laughing too.

The best part? He was completely serious about his idea and tried to back it up with science. It's pretty much become my go-to example of demonstrating the difference between INT and WIS; INT is knowing something might theoretically be possible and WIS is knowing it's retarded.

But yeah, his plan would have resulted in like two hundred dead hostages and possibly some team mates too. GREAT WORK SUPERCOP.

In labs hidden beneath rock and concrete, scientists worked to open portals to new dimensions, but without any navigation aid and only the vaguest idea of how to open portals, progress was slow.

Chief Scientist Henry Chase ordered a new portal be opened. So the technicians scrabbled to the machine, calibrating at random in the hopes of opening a portal to a completely new world. One in which there could be some new technology to be stolen or some resource to be exploited. Of course, no-one had ever considered that most other dimensions were not like ours at all, and the random openings were the most dangerous thing they could possibly do.

The machine calibrated the technicians scuttled to begin the countdown to activation

    3 minutes to go.

Dr Henry Chase took up his seat in the control room. Surely this time he could find something of worth.

    2 minutes to go
The power began to amp up. The hum of the machine began to get louder.

    1 minute to go
The sound is getting to an unbearable level. Everyone on the floor wears ear defenders, but even these cannot block the noise completely

    10 seconds to go

Henry Chase leans forwards in excitement

    5
    4
    3
the sound is deafening to all, defenders or not
    2
    1
A blast of light, severing a gap in our very reality.
A portal is open, and from that portal falls...

    Arms?
Hundreds of Arms, all pushing for freedom through a tiny gap.

And after that I was planning to give him the Disability (No Legs) and use that to buy more arms.

I soon became some kind of lovecraftian horror, a walking, stumbling ball of bodies and junk with me as the nucleus, tumbling through the city with the moans of my outer shell echoing through the streets. My reign of terror ended soon after my former teammates formed a new team called GLUE BUSTERS. And promptly blasted me with a rocket launcher.

If BAM is a hivemind of arms, then every lost and regenerated arm would change his personality slightly.

Every lost limb would effectively hurt his memory and muscle memory, as new, inexperienced arms take the place of the older and more experienced are lost.

BAM gains negative levels when he looses his limbs!

Drawing from this, BAM could even have the comic book memory loss. After being brought into the material plane he attempted to escape the labs he was imprisoned in. During the escape, he was badly wounded loosing several arms. As most of his arms have then been replaced, the memory of the labs, and who he is is terribly foggy.

BAM is wondering aimlessly, trying to remember his past, who he is, and why he is a ball of arms. He witnesses a mugging, and decides to help the blind old lady getting robed. During the subsequent battle with the muggers, some of the original arms of BAM retain the muscle memory of combat.. it feels familiar, but he cannot remember from where.

He retrieves the old blind lady's purse, and she is thankful. BAM decides to dedicate his life to the pursuit of justice, while attempting to remember his past.

    Im DMing D&D 3.5
I start my campaign in a small colony town on the edge of dwarven territory made by people escaping the generic ominous evil empire of evil to the west.

The town itself is mostly farms with a tavern/town hall and smithy/malita armory being the actual town.

Party doesn't play, rather then complain how a community like itself lasts long enough without this and that and that and this and this and that and that and this, complaining about economics and stuff for about 3 hours, before we actually get onto playing the damn game.

Not a bad steal, the robber thought to himself as he high tailed it away from the Jewelery store. Coupla rings, some necklaces. They'd make more than enough money to keep the dealer off his back.

And that's when he heard it. Echoing down the dark streets, a noise that was at once entirely alien and yet eerily familiar. The sound of hundreds of clapping, slapping and drumming noises accompanying the sound of something of immense size rolling.

Stricken with fear, the robber bolted, but it was already too late. the Whatever-it-was-and-I'm-not-gonna-look was definatley chasing him. The rolling sound got louder, the slapping sound of hand hitting pavement become louder as it pushed itself on.

    "oh jesus-oh jesus-oh jesus oh-"
"UNHAND THAT STOLEN PROPERTY VILLAIN! OR FACE THE LONG ARM OF THE LAW!"

    SQUISH.

THe next thing the Robber remembered was tumbling. Tumbling in something while being punched everywhere. Repeatedly.

He begged the cops to take him in when he was spat out, bruised and terrified in the middle of the precinct.

I love the horror element of BAM

at first, the perp only hears the distant pitter-patter sound of small children running.
Slowly this noise builds into the rumble of a stampede.
But, as it draws nearer, there is something distinctly . . . . wrong . . . about the sound.

It's as if a grand audience is giving a standing ovation, and a great horde of bulls is stampeding through the street, all at the same time.

And by the time they realize what is going on, they're being punched, grabbed, pulled, poked, prodded, slapped, and otherwise manhandled all over their body all at once.

by the time they've come to their senses, they are tied up outside the front doors of the precinct, with clean white cloth glove stuffed in their mouths as a calling card.

    New villain! The Nail Biter!

The analogue of the Scarecrow. The Nail Biter is a demonic illusionist who eats human fingernails. To that end, he uses his powers to cause extreme fear in people. The idea is to make them pass out with fear so he can eat their fingernails. He's been around since the birth of humanity and we evolved the 'biting nails' habit as a way to fend him off.

So, with his fortune gained by hand modeling and all the loose change he picks up while rolling around, he decides to buy roughly a ton worth of iron, and have it forged into enough "brass" knuckles to cover all his fists.

I was thinking much smaller. As if each arm was the size of a normal, incredibly buff arm.. ending at his central portal/tear to the elemental plane of arms. If each arm is about 1 meter long (3 feet), BAM's diameter would be about 2 meters across when arms are fully extended.

Though that would not be able to house a billion arms.

Right. I've been imagining him several feet taller than the villains in these scenarios, so about an 8-9 foot diameter - this because the logic of having so many arms makes more sense if he's just fuckhuge.

We'd never seen anything like it. It wasn't until three months from that day that people started hearing about it and I was believed.

Me and about a dozen of the boys were pulling in some heavy shit from China on the docks late one night. Nothing unusual, we'd paid off the right people and the cop on patrol was a personal mate, he had three kids and college to pay for, no need to get yourself killed for catching a few thugs. Anyways Tony had just pulled open a crate of Assault Rifles to make sure it was all there when we heard it.
"What the fuck is that noise?"
"Sounds like kids running or some shit."
"There aint no schools on the docks, dipshit."
"All of you shut the fuck up; Don, Twitchy. Go check it out."
The sound was louder, like flip-flops or barefeet running across concrete, but...more. By the time Don was at the warehouse that...that monster rolled into view. In the same instant Don was grabbed by dozens of hands as Twitchy started to scream before being--what looked like--punched. It was a ball of arms, and it didn't like what we were doing.
"Don't just stand there, shoot it!"
The boys lit it up like rednecks at a bonfire, I pulled an AK out of the crate, locked and loaded and lept onto one of the boats heading to the back where I could jump onto the next, no one noticed. I ran as fast as I could and lept to the next little sail boat, breaking my ankle in the process as I heard the screams behind me. I quietly dragged myself below deck and sat in a nasty little square of wood panel and plexi-glass "port-holes" I suppressed my heavy breathing and beating heart, it was quiet. Suddenly I felt the boat rock and shouted; "Tony, that you Tony? No fucking around, that you?"

Hands, those hands reached for me, from everywhere. I poured the entire magazine into the roof and pressed into the corner. Silence. Then I saw him. He pulled himself through that tiny door somehow and just stood there. We stayed like that for a long time before a hand started carving on the floor something then it left. It read; "Tell everyone that Ball of Arms Man is cleaning this city up."

When I got back to the dock, nothing was left, no bodies, no goods, no shell casings for Christ sake. It took me a whole two hours to drag myself to a street that had cabs(That fucking Ball must've pushed the cars into the bay). When I finally got to the boss I didn't know what to say but the truth, that was a mistake. He spent two days working me over to find out where everything had gone, I told him the same fucking story every time.
"Arms, fucking arms worked over my best boys and stole five hundred grand worth of shit without so much as a drop of fucking blood in a mile of that pier? You know what I think, I think you've lost it you fucker, I think you're trying to pull a fast one on me. I don't like that...Doc, plug him with some blood thickener and cut off his fucking arms."
"Mr. Casatori, wait! I've worked for you for my entire fucking life."
"Not anymore you don't. Throw this garbage in the dumpster."

According to my estimates, he'd be just under human-sized in that pic. The bulk of his arms needs to be a good few hand's breadths bigger, then he'd be the perfect size in my mind.
    >> Anonymous 05/05/10(Wed)20:11 No.9636438
Just a question. The arms seem to have just an elbow. Do they end partway in, giving way to more arms? Or do they go all the way to the center? Because extendo-arms would be fatally awesome on BAM.

It took the doc an hour to work before he had me dropped off in a dumpster downtown and left for dead, to bad for those bastards it was garbage day.
When I woke up it was a month later and I was in ICU, no name, no nothing, I was a walking dead man. Amazingly enough they'd kept the arms sort of alive and offered me a once in a million oppurtunity, they could reattach some of the nerves and use the old arms as a basis for integrated biotech, the oppurtunity to have robot arms was to good to be true, I'd always loved star wars.
It took them another two weeks before they even started and until then they plugged my nerves and remaining muscle tissue back in, exposed and lying there. All the while all I could think about was revenge, on Casatori, but after that, that monster that had started all this.

nobody knows. Somewhere in there is the portal to the plane of arms. On the outside are lots of arms. What's inbetween is unknown and no one can really ask him to stay still long enough to find out.

It cost me every dime I'd saved over the past twenty five years, and took three months of excruciating work but they did it. By this point there were other attacks by the Ball. He'd taken out those pricks the McLaughlins, a shit Irish gain that sold Coke.
I was getting stronger every day. I Was lifting twice what I did when my arms weren't half carbon-fiber-Titanium alloy. The skin on my arm had failed to survive the ordeal and they had to put a silicon cover over what was still there. I didn't care though, because in one weeks time, Casatori would be making another run of goods, and his place would be short on men. Then, then I would strike.

I always figured I'd have a violent retirement. So when I was released from the hospital I went to the stockyards and visited my crate. I had dozens of guns, knives, a giant battle ax(more for fun), enough cash and fake IDs that terrorists would be jealous and of course, bullet proof vests and a few other goodies.
I spent a whole day in that crate, using a table saw to cut porcelain ballistic plates into pieces to cover my arms, legs and neck. I already had a torso set with shoulder pads, groin pad and neck strap. I had a nifty ballistic face mask and helmet. By nightfall I was covered in three hundred pounds of armor, ammo and a battle ax. Casatori was going to die tonight.

These two drawfag attempts are truely glorious. Can we get one of BALL OF PUNCH in action? I imagine a meteor of fists plummeting towards the ground.

There was a request earlier for Ball of Arms man using all of his armpower to punch Cthulhu in the dick with a billion fists.

That might make a good pic.

Casatori was your typical Italian crime boss, a giant fucking house in the hills. His three guard dogs were good practice for my arms as I snapped their necks when I hopped the fence near their dog houses. As expected a few night thugs walked over to see what the noise was. I wasn't about to start shooting yet so I stood perfectly still in the middle of the yard. When their flashlights shined on me, their faces were...beautiful.
"Holy fucking shit, what is that?"
    "Who are you!?"
I said nothing, I remained perfectly still.
"Is it a statue? I...shoot it."
"And wake up the boss because we shot his freaky statue, thing?"
"It looks like the dude from army of two man..."
    "Was that a good ga--"
My arm was around his neck and my silenced pistol already unloaded into his partner.
"Now...how many of the boys are working tonight, if you shout, you're dead."
    "Ten, ten!"
"You're lying..." I tightened my arm with the lightest of effort, unfortunately it broke his neck and killed him.
    "Oh, well that...wow."
I stood there for a minute before running towards the house, drawing my ax as I did.

You know... if all the arms have their own memory and can be specialized ie: representative hand. Couldn't different arms learn different martial arts?

Like an arm that's mastered Bruce Lee's 3 inch punch, an arm that's learned muai thai, kenpo, drunken boxing (admittedly bad at it since it has no mouth to get drunk with), akido, judo, and that one hand that watched Fist of the North Star till it could actually do Hokuto Shin Ken

The cook was already home so when I walked in and saw a man in the fridge I didn't worry about the new ax hole I just put in his back, unfortunately the entire condiments shelf did and broke with a large shatter of glass and relishes. I left the ax and jumped onto the counter next to the dinning room door. When one of the guys walked in he saw the body, me covered in armor and two .44 magnum revolvers pointed at him.
    "Fuck."
By the time the second shot was off the entire house was awake and I was halfway up the stairs shooting every dumb bastard who got in my way. I've never been one to spare the ammunition so after four henchmen I was empty and now charging down the hall strangling a guard while using him as a shield before throwing him into another then stepping on both of their skulls on my way to Casatori's room. When I opened the door I was knocked back by two rounds of buckshot in my center mass.
    "Take that you fucker!"
I rose to my feet, surprised, but alright. I walked towards him, taking another two rounds of buckshot, this time to the face mask. I grabbed the shotgun and broke in half before picking him up by the neck with one arm.
"Who the fuck are you?" He said.
"I'm a dead man." I said as I pulled off my helmet. Casatori started to hiss what was probably a scream.
    "You, you're..."
"Shhh, no need to worry. I'm fine, now go to sleep...you little bastard."
I stared at Casatori's face for a long while. It was sweet and I was in the moment before a flood of anger poured through me. I still had one more thing to do.
"Now Casatori, I'll prove to you that that fucking Ball of Arms Man is real, when I rip off every one of his fucking arms. Do you hear that? I'm coming for you!"
    End

Writefag here, sorry if that was shit or anticlimactic. I just wanted to write the story of someone who lost their arms because of BAM and was then his nemesis, I call him the Dead Man.
I might try writing a story from BAM's perspective when he comes across Dead Man, but not now.
