Eversor's are assassins that are completely doped up to the gills on drugs that both keep them almost indestructible AND cause homocidal rage. To use one, the Assassinorum basically puts one of htem in a pod, dumps it on a planet, and then lets the Eversor do it's job.

    >>9494429

Imagine a complete fucking madman given enough drugs to fuel the underground cocaine racket of an entire planet, and have them injected in super-concentrated form directly into his spine at five minute intervals. Now give him a suit of strength-enhancing armor, biomech implants, and train him to be able to kill a man with his bare hands before the implants or drugs.

And then you give him the most dangerous weapons the Imperium can put on a single man, activate all the drug syringes simultaneously, and point him at the enemy. Pray to God he doesn't start tearing your side up before their side.

Oh yeah, their bodies are so volatile from the drugs they explode into a shower of acidic gore when they die.

Eversors are the Assassin Temple focused on shock tactics. They're dangerous bloodthirsty nutters who would rather go THROUGH the wall and slaughter your bodyguard, you, your family, and anyone in a half-mile radius. They're also fuelled by a cocktail of drugs which not only makes them so aggressive that they can't ever stop killing, but makes it so that if they die, or if they're kept too long out of stasis, then they explode. Literally. Boom. Assassin bits everywhere.
The perpetual grin of their not-quite-skull that they have for a mask makes for pretty funny scenes when they're shown, say, dancing.

You guys are looking at this the wrong way, and it shows in your metaphors to describe the Eversor. The Officio Assasinorum isn't going to turn stupid motherfuckers into assasins. They want tremendously skilled people, and so it makes sense that even when drugged up, Eversors retain some of their non-combat skills.

When you describe them as overdrugged crackheads, you miss the tremendous preparation that goes into making an assasin.

The process of becoming a Vindicare makes you dumber and intelligence in general has nothing to do with it. In fact, most Temple Assassins are raised from kids in entirely brutal environments... so they'd tend to be rather stupid, crude beings. Just very highly trained and single minded ones.

I think thats the reason they train the eversor in these skills. What do you think of when you somebody says eversor? A walking time bomb?Thats what they're counting on. You keep waiting with your gun pointed at the front door, and whatever wall you think he's about to bust through that you don't ever notice him hiding in the shadows, slinking through the backways, and stalking you from on the cat walks. They track you down to where your in a place where they can do the most damage. and then the trap is sprung.

    This.

An eversor assassin will likely find you and murder you, your entire household guard, and the PDF/Arbites who rocks up to see what the disturbance is all about if they get there quick enough.

But he's probably going to sneak his way into the facility or something else half-decent like that before he goes on a rampage. Just because he has a burning hatred of everyone and everything doesn't mean he's herpderp retard strength all the time. They obviously have enough brains to still try and dodge attacks (Temple Assassin, here comes the 20+ dodges!)

They're still skilled and relatively intelligent operatives, and that's what makes them fucking scary. Completely fucking psychopathic and lacking all empathy, sure, but not retarded.

Eversors are the branch that you use to make an example of someone.

The rest are meant to be somewhat discreet. Not that an Eversor isn't discreet, but the trail behind him is rather red with gore.

The Vindicares and Callidus are used to show what happens to despots and tyrants that oppose Imperial rule. The Eversor is there so you can point at it and say "remember when the ruling council of Backwaterius IV decided they were fit to rule instead of the Adeptus Terra? Yeah, don't be stupid or EVERYBODY DIES."

I'd like to see a Vindicare assassin stuck in a situation like in Enemy at the Gates.

But I don't know if there's any counter-snipers good enough to challenge him. Maybe Eldar rangers? Space marine scouts are probably more enhanced than he is, so they could give a bit of a challenge if there were enough.

I could see that happening for a chapter taht uses Scouts as elite units (ie. SW Lone Wolves). Otherwise, not really.

I'm only going to comment on Vindicares/Eversors and the DA Exarch because they're the only ones who've been statted.

In general, an Assassin wins any one-on-one fight because of the Temple Assassin trait, which gives them MULTIPLE DODGES in one round. Vindicares in particular win extra hard because their Unnatural Agility Trait advance is at Rank 9 (everyone starts at Rank 9 in Ascension), which, combined with an Agility of 60+, means 12 Dodges per round, all made at 80-100 (Assassin Synskin gives +10 to Dodge Tests and Unnatural Agility gives +10 to all Agility tests in addition to adding DoS to opposed AG tests and doubling your Ag Bonus).

Like Sun Tzu said, "First become invincible, then destroy your opponent's invincibility." Our Vindicare can become totally unhittable by Mr. DA Exarch, and after that all he has to do is plink with his Exitus pistol (whose bullets inflict a -20 penalty to Dodge them since they literally home in on their targets) until the Exarch dies.

Mind you, the best way to kill an Assassin is still to form up 50 men with autoguns and full auto burst him until he dies.

Fluffwise, the Culexus are the least picky, considering nulls are so rare they need all they can get (and besides you can replace someone's entire body and mind, so it doesn't matter)... and the Callidus generally fit DH the best.

I made an ad-hoc statline for a Callidus assassin once (pre-ascension) for my party to fight. I was pretty lucky guessing the statline and it's pretty much the same as the Eversor, though without US/UT x2 because I hadn't even considered that, and with a decent fellowship score.

She had all the melee talents (lightning attack, wall of steel/step aside, etc), and most skills, with a heavy emphasis on social manipulation and chemistry knowledge.

Her armour was an armoured bodyglove with cameleoline upgrades and that sort of jazz; her C'Tan Phase Sword was statted as a RT Ghost Sword, and the NeuroShredder I used as a Blood Boil attack, with the DoS for hitting the enemy determining the strength of the attack.

It worked out pretty well for the most part. Except for the hallucinogen grenade she failed HORRIBLY against that left her lying on the ground playing dead.

Our techpriest (missing his breacher dendrite and half his legs from her parries) saw through the trick and riddled her with hellgun fire. Now he has some sweet phat loot to hide from the party.

Find the target kill the target kill anything in the way praise the emperor kill the target find the target-

The Eversor wanted to scream, wanted to chant and rave and chatter like it normally did as it flew at its targets. It stuck to moving its lips behind the mask in a constant litany.

It was hiding. Quivering from the drugs and sheer anticipation; the Eversor had been dispatched and told to eliminate this House of Irjeld. It didn't know why; only that the house was to be eliminated. There would be guards with weapons to be eliminated. There would be house-members to be eliminated. There would be xenos to be eliminated. There would be so MUCH to eliminate in the name of the God-Emperor. So much to do.

It went through the genemarkers pressed into its mind again. Tall-brown-lean-hairy-healthy-beaky-tall-brown-lean-praise the emperor.

Its mind scuttled around the images that popped up of the target, curled around the maps in its mind, snapped at the aching, throbbing wait the schedule had promised.

It was forced to wait for the lord to come to him. The rules in its mind- God-Emperor spoke to him the rules all right there loud and golden, two-headed eagles- told him to wait, wait, wait. Wait until he came in. Wait for the crowd. Wait for the xeno. Wait!

It hated waiting! It's whole body thrummed with the drugs- the needles in its spine dosing it into wakefulness. So awake, can't even blink. So glad for the mask.

The Eversor shivered in the ducts above the court of Irjeld, and waited, its whole body a testament to the God-Emperor's wrath.

And, of course, there are 9001 threats to their safety which they can all see, which they have to deal with individually (okay, so if I go somewhere else, the Vindicare won't find me, but then I get nommed by a Lictor, or the Orks lead a WAAAAGH into my territory, etc.)

This doesn't count the times when a Farseer CAN'T flee (he has to personally direct a battle; it happens) and then it puts him in danger of being killed. Plus, Farseeing isn't omniscience, and it definitely isn't omnipotence.

That said, any Vindicare who gets within range of a Farseer's Mind War (~ 140m) is begging to die (YOUR HEAD ASPLODE). Technically, he can dodge it, but that's contingent on the DM's permission.

It screamed into the lift-port, shrieked past the doors. Anything in its way was murdered- bodies sliced open, through clothes, through armors, through anything that was in its way.

Find the heretic! Kill the heretic! Find-and-kill-and-maim-and-eliminate! Praise the God-Emperor! Find! Kill! Praise!

The doors didn't stop it. The walls didn't stop it. The Arbites certainly didn't stop it. It was a mass of death and faith made flesh, screaming uncontrollably in pain or ecstasy or rage or everything at once. It slammed through the servitors, climbing over the massive, dumb things, leaving gouges that killed them with poison mere moments later. It wailed through security- none of the defense mechanisms started up, as if afraid of the Emperor's wrath.

Hunt the heretic! Burn the target! Hunt-and-burn-and-kill-and-eliminate! Praise the God-Emperor! Hunt! Kill! Praise!

The Eversor crashed into the little foil, ripping open the door with its terrible claws, pausing in the new window, letting loose shots while howling unintelligibly and shaking violently.

It crawled over the bodies shaking and jumping and twitching, the needles in its spine spurring it onward- Find! Kill! Praise! they sang.

It put shaking hands on the throttle, gun dropping to the ground, forgotten. Rules long-since pressed into its head leaped to the fore, golden-eagle-double-header voice singing the way to the target, through this machine, through this.

The foil shuddered and erupted into the sky, bobbling wildly. The target would not escape. It would eliminate this heretic!

    Fly! Kill! Praise!

The candidate selection process for the Temple Assassins involves a great deal of faith-based culling. Given the incredible danger these agents pose should the go rogue, the Ordo Sicarius needs to be certain of their reliability. They tend to choose the individuals with quiet yet obstinate faith; the sort who are content to let everyone else do what they will but will absolutely not compromiose what they believe for any reason. Those with more vocal faith have difficulty maintaining cover on operational deployments to particularly corrupt empires, and those with more analytical faiths are vulnerable to persuasion.

The sheer level of lethality required to become a Temple Assassin is so extreme its members cannot be accurately classed as human. The Eversor in particular is divorced from any concept of humanity, as they have been psychoindoctrinated in every single battlefield situation that could possibly exist. It's not unlike that 'how do you kill someone in X with X' game, except they already know all the answers. Their muscle reflexes and neurology after being hyperaccelerated are so fast that they are literally not capable of thought on their actions, because they actually start to act before the thought that led to the action has been fully processed.

Phase Sword is simple: ignores Fields and Armor and all forms of Toughness Bonus. Neural Shredder should be a flamer-style weapon which tests against WP rather than AG to avoid. This retains the tabletop synergy of having a Culexus and a Callidus work in tandem; Culexus rapes their Ld down to worthlessness with his Soulless ability, then Callidus attacks their weakened Ld with her Neural Shredder. Note that Untouchables in DH also penalize all WP rolls in a radius around them...

It's difficult to have ANY assassin work on the tabletop because they're just not the sort of thing that can be properly represented. A Vindicaire assassin should just be you choosing a model every turn and having it die. A Callidus assassin should involve you picking a character, having it die, then having the unit it's attached to die. A Culexus assassin should have every psyker on the table removed from the table in catatonia. A Venenum or Vanus assassin should be you picking a unit and saying it's dead. An Eversor assassin shoudl be you grabbing the model, smashing it round the table making explodey noises, and having it kill everything it touches until it breaks.

They don't do these because it would be less fun.

I don't think it'd work, sicne the players would take the ultimate power as a key to go kill everything instead of realising that assassins are intended to use subterfuge and supreme fieldcraft skills to get their job done exactly right. Making them Vanus assassins would work better for that.

The Eversor howled through the halls, feeling something like release as it was allowed to simply run and follow the phero-trace that the target left behind. It screamed. It yelled. It laughed. It sang praises to the God-Emperor for letting it serve so fully, so wholly in body!

Praise the God-Emperor, for He is the sun and the faith and the everything good! He is the stimm in your blood, the needles in your spine, the claws on your hand!

It killed so many things. Blue things. Flesh things. Metal things. Didn't matter. Claws and poison and their own guns. Didn't matter. Thin walls, doors, windows between rooms. Didn't matter. It would get to the target and eliminate it!

Then it hit the door. It would not open to his security overrides. It screamed. It would not open to his claws. It roared. It would not open to his gun. It shrieked. It had no bombs to open it! It was blocked! Thwarted!

The Eversor collapsed to the ground and writhed in rage-agony-despair at being denied. It shook and shuddered and screamed even louder.

Then it rolled onto it's hands and knees and vomited blood. Needles in its spine stabbed deeper.

The God-Emperor was displeased- He who is the moon and the faith and everything good! He who is in your blood and in your spine and in your legs, fleeing you for your lack of faith!

It stood again, quavering, its own blood joining the others', and threw itself at the door's lock. A MIU port! A keypad! The Emperor provides!

It shrieked in joy as it started hitting keys, more things bubbling up from the dark depths, singing the path to the target. It took a few agonizing seconds of hitting and screaming and starting anew, but the door gave way. The phero-trace was strong!

The Eversor did a flip as it ran through the door, its whole body a fluid whip of promised death and agony.

Praise the God-Emperor for he is the stars and the faith and the everything good! He is the path to the target, the needles in your spine and the gun in your hands!

But the psykers can't do shit. In fact, they start bleeding from every hole in their head and dying. Fuck that. VANUS is the nightmare mode. If you leave any compelling evidence, you are immediately recalled. If you are discovered, your implants spontaneously combust. Now infiltrate that twenty-kilometre-high temple full of three hundred million guards and kill the guy in charge in such a way that nobody ever knows he's gone.

Hell, have exactly the same mission with six different ways of play. Eversor is HACKSLASHMODE. Vindicaire is you stealthclimbing the outside of the structure for the entire eighteen hours of gameplay, slietly killing everyone in your way and throwing them off the tower, then having to shoot the traitor in the head through a kilometre of glass windows and decorative columns. Callidus is like an entire game of the sneaky bits of Prototype except you have to hide the bodies, and the more important people you kill the more you have to juggle identities so nobody finds you out until you get the traitor alone so you can explain the wrongness of his actions before killing him. Venenum is the easymode of Vanus, since you can be discovered and leave small evidence without autolosing but you still can't kill directly. Culexus wouldn't work since it'd be like Eversor but weaker. Maybe you can ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL of psykers.

    >The Culexus Assassin slays his foe by using a deadly psychic blast directed through an ancient device known as an Animus Speculum. It is unknown how this device functions fully, but it is speculated that the warp energy separated from its targets by the null aura of the Culexus is held in this device and then unleashed. Indeed, the weapon becomes more and more potent when within the vicinity of psykers. The device fires bolts of negative psychic energy and drains the power of nearby psykers to bolster its power. Secondly, the Culexus carries an Etherium, a device that induce enormous distortion and confusion in all nearby enemies psychic or not, the fact that the enemy is already disconcerted by the soulless Culexus combined with the Etherium makes the Culexus impossible to target.

Culexus would be like a Survival Horror game, except -you- are the monster. the game would be a constant acid trip that only gets more and more trippy the closer you get to the target.

    Move: 6/12/18/30
    Wounds: 22
Mastered Skills: Athletic Mastery, Charismatic Mastery, Common Lore Mastery, Driving Mastery, Fieldcraft Mastery, Forbidden Lore Mastery, Linguistic Mastery, Observation Mastery, Piloting Mastery, Shadow Craft Mastery, Stealth Mastery, Tech Lore Mastery.
Skills: Carouse, Evaluate, Inquiry +20, Interrogate +20, Logic.
Paragon Talents: Basic Weapons Expertise, Blade Dancer, Heightened Reactions, Melee Weapon Expertise, Mental Aegis, Pistol Expertise, Storm of Blows, Thrown Weapon Expertise, Unassailable Grace.
Talents: Crack Shot, Exotic Weapons Training (Needle Rifle, Neural Shredder), Jaded, Fearless, Gunslinger, Temple Assassin†, Mimic, Polymorphine-Use††.
†The Callidus has the Temple Assassin Trait (Ascension, p.91)
††The Callidus Assassin can make use of Polymorphine to change her shape. To do so requires a Full Action: The Assassin must then make an Easy (+30) Willpower Test. On a success of any degree, the Callidus may change her form into that of any other humanoid, at the discretion of the GM.
    Traits: Unnatural Fellowship (x2).

    (Continued from above...)

Armour: Best craftsmanship synskin bodyglove (AP3, All) with integrated cameleoline, infra-red goggles, micro-bead, rebreather.
    Weapons: Neural shredder (20m, Clip 1, Rld 2Full)‡, Phase sword‡‡ (1d1011† E, Balanced).
    † Includes Strength Bonus.
‡ The Neural Shredder does not do conventional damage; however, it instead attacks the central nervous system of an individual, causing a variety of horrific effects, ranging from convulsion, to loss of consciousness, to complete death. The weapon does not require reloading, but after each shot must be given 2 Rounds to recharge. The wielder does not make a Ballistics Skill Test for this weapon, but rather, simply fires it, and any enemy in a 30 degree arc from the firer out to the weapon’s range must make an Agility Test or be hit. A target hit by this weapon must make an immediate Hard (-20) Toughness Test: A success indicates no effects. However, a failure indicates the target is Stunned for 1d5 Rounds; a failure by 1-3 degrees indicates the target is Stunned for 1d10 Rounds; a failure by 4-6 degrees indicates the target takes 1d10 Energy damage, and is knocked Uncoscious; a failure by 7+ degrees requires a secondary Toughness Test - if this is failed, then the target dies as his neurons fry.
‡‡ Phase swords are incredibly bizarre weapons which have the amazing ability to bypass any defense, making them very potent weapons indeed. All phase swords count as Best Quality, and an attack made by a phase sword ignores the effects of Armor, Fields, or Toughness Bonus on Damage dealt by the weapon.
    Equipment: Personal medikit, pict-recorder.

I meant that the Eversor based character would be the one shot in the heart, and punch the protagonist (or who ever wants to say the WOL).

That would definitely work. Or, since it's an Eversor, it'd probably do some kind of spinny kick flip thing.

It whined and shivered in its spot. Wait!

The God-Emperor told him so! Wait and sing and leap only when told. Do as you're told. Wait. Do.

There was a snap from somewhere behind the Eversor, and it exploded into motion.

    Praise!

In one moment, it pulled the heroine down into a mockery of romance, lips pressed against the skull-mask so hard her teeth shattered. He held her so tight her arms broke. She screamed, and he screamed back at her, so fully in love his whole body seemed to sing with hers in praise for the God-Emperor.

Then he bound forward, handspring-into-flip-onto-hands, at the male secondary love interest, backhanding him, letting a chittery scream out at the other, lesser, thing. Kill! Eliminate! Remove the opposition! It let the man start to stand before ripping forward again, slamming claws into him, claws and the gun and bullets!

It quivered in ecstasy for the moment it took for the man to die before folding almost double, shivering and muttering as it struggled to wait long enough for the true antagonist to appear.

She stepped through the door, and the Eversor nearly giggled with joy-hate-agony as it jammed its claws into her shoulder, pulling her in close, 'kissing' her gently, lovingly, on her free arm's hand. Then he bit her fingers off.

She died screaming and lipless, her eyes plucked from her head and her knees shot out from under her.

Such beautiful work! In the name of the God-Emperor, give praise! Praise! Kill! ACT!
