    Shi/t g/ets done at it's finest.

    Old thread:
    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/9145340/

/tg/ talks about a game that doesn't exist, convinces many that it does, and convinces us that it should. Gets into shit gets done mode.

    http://arthropocalypse.forum-motion.com/forum.htm

Talk here or on the forum about this game. Making it, mechanics, fluff, etc.

I see in the forum that people are talking about assigning roles. I think this is dangerous talk. /tg/ projects live and die based on threads here on /tg/, not a small user-base on a forum. The moment a /tg/ project becomes disconnected from /tg/ is the moment it fails.

That said, I'm currently working on a BRP-mod to run this with. Will post it when I'm done.
    >> Anonymous 04/12/10(Mon)19:10 No.9153031
    BRP?

Yeah, I'm not sure about assigning roles being the main thrust of the project, but for example if the forum-people want to take charge of certain aspects, get some stuff done, and post it up for feedback, etc. I'm cool with that. It's a /tg/ project, so it'll be pushed forward by /tg/ primarily.
    >> Anonymous 04/12/10(Mon)19:14 No.9153103
    >>9152886

/tg/ talks a lot of talk, but a lot of the good ideas that it spawns never come to fruition due in part to the fact that it's hard to coordinate on an anonymous image board.

IMHO, a project like this needs a "base of operations" of sorts, such as the forum, to record and brainstorm, while at the same time keeping in touch with the greater /tg/ population for updates, input, and in general trying to get as many people in on the process as possible, either as designers or playtesters.
    >> Anonymous 04/12/10(Mon)19:16 No.9153142
    >>9153031
Its more of a assigning responsibility in hopes of getting something accomplished.

Current thinking is to have main "species" (like ants) with subclasses (worker, soldier, ???) with their own abilities. Real basic right now, but can be expanded.

    Any other approaches?

There's precedent for 4chan projects moving off the boards and getting somewhere. Only one that comes to mind right now is Four Leaf Studios.

Alright, so I've never really ventured seriously into the realms of Crunch before. So this might be completely arse-backwards but here goes:

    BRP - ARACHNOPOCALYPSE STYLE

    First off: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DELTG9Q9

    Download that.

System's dead simple, for those who don't know it. Effectively, most stuff is reduced to rolling a d100 and aiming to get under a skill or stat multiple.

Obviously, this needs some pretty hefty modification, as would any system primarily based on people.

    Firstly, I'd change stats to:

Strength: Brawn and raw muscle power
    Constituion: Health, vigour and vitaility
    Size: Pretty obvious
    Intelligence: Problem-solving and reasoning
    Power: Willpower, mental fortitude
    Dexterity: Balance and deftness
Appearance: Generally only applies to members of your own species, basically, appearance and good looks
    Movement: Speed and agility

Players can either roll 3d6 for each, and then look against a table saying what sort of stats a particular insect type should have, or look at the table and get set values for each stat. For example, and bear in mind, I'm not a Spider-Expert, so my stats could be entirely wrong, but hey:

    TARANTULA
    STR:13 CON: 12 SIZ: 14 INT: 12 POW: 8 DEX: 16 APP: 8 MOV:10

Once you've got these base stats, you have 10 points to spend to customise your Tarantula. Figures will change, but that's how I can see it working.

These stats are used to work out a variety of bonuses, best explained in the book. Mostly, they still make sense, except for Movement.
    >> Anonymous 04/12/10(Mon)19:29 No.9153402
    >>9153392

    Speaking of which, skills!
Basic Skills: Hide, Move Silently, Spot Hidden, Listen, Insight, Foraging, Grappling, Intimidation, Negotiation
Weapon Skills: Bite, Claw, Needle, Launching
    Unique Skills: Web-weaving, Trap-making. Nest-making, etc.

Basic Skills all have a yet to be decided base rate, possibly based on their stats. Characters with abilities will get unique skills to match them. Characters get a weapon skill for each attack type they have. Characters then have 100 points to spend to improve all their skills above base rates.

Special abilities are all taken from the mutations section of BRP. Characters are assigned appropriate "mutations" as befits their species

Suitable Mutations include: Adaptability, Camouflage, Group Intelligence, Hardy, Keen Sense, Luminescence, Natural Armour, Pheremone, Regeneration, Sensitivity, Venom, Wings.

Attack damage would be based on a set damage for each attack type, say: d6 for a bite attack, modified by Damage Bonus, which is affected by Strength and Size.

so what a frog is some sort of horrible monster to this setting? What about other monster types?
Will there be like insect taverns.
One other idea springs to my mind, dead bodies. Full of random insects, you can use em as a sort of hellish very deadly dungeon full of other stuff and the environment could kill you in lots of ways.

I imagine they'd have to be seperate, requiring different settings, with Amphibious organisms being able to go either way.

That said, it'd be interesting to throw in boss fights that go out of a given party's medium - An aquatic boss for a terrestrial group (Perhaps battle on lily pads?), and a terrestrial boss for an aquatic group (A lizard has blundered into your pond - Kill it before it can get to the shore!).

The Colony Ship Pequeno had finally reached it destination after countless light years of travel. While the ships hull had kept the countless passengers safe, the cryo vats had glitched somewhere along the journey. ANy technology, regardless of how advanced it is, if left alone, will eventually fail, and the cryo vats had failed in a way that none had detected. The vats would pump chemicals to keep the passengers alive, but now, they had also mutated them. Their once soft skin had hardened, their eyes bulged out from their original locations, and their ears had extended in directions. They were human, but they were now insects. As the rest of the systems activated, they rejected their occupants, and ejected them onto the surface of their new world.

With no equipment, tools, or even the familiarity of Earth, they went their own ways on a new, more dangerous world.

But what of those on the ship that remain un-mutated? And for what reasons did they build the colony ship?

Oh wait, that's not how it happened.

A scientist for the military, crackpots that they are, decided that instead of following proper procedure, dumping the chemicals down faucet was okay.

They teach you not to do this at home, at school, and in your first chemistry class, but this was a military base, and it was for the purpose of getting to the SCIENCE! faster. Surely, the military wasn't so cheap as to invest in a water purification system in case such things happened, all the people there were smarter than that, right? RIGHT?

Of course you'd be wrong, it's the military. Now the insects near the base have developed sentience, but this only makes things harder for the little guys, for now they can truly understand the concept of fear. They can understand hate, and they can understand the feelings they get from killing each other.

It's up to you and your ragtag group of chitinous allies to make the world, or at least the three square feet you call your universe, safe for yourself and your families. Do you have what it takes?
    >> Anonymous 04/13/10(Tue)03:23 No.9161832
No-one knows how it happened. There a stories about the huge-mans, and their world of giants, but they're just that, stories. But now you're aware. More then your parents were, something is new. And it's a rapidly changing world. Bugs now gather under logs to tell stores and trade, ants sell protection in return for food, and enterprising bugs now travel around trading food and information, living on their wits and instincts in this new world. . .

If my gecko is any indication you fill yourself full of parasites and then get eaten.

She'll eventually starve to death or at least cost her owner a lot of money with trips to the vet.

The eyedropper isn't working and I'm not going to risk injuring her by prying her mouth open and shoving it down her throat. Another visit to the vet is in order, that's all.

Been and gone. She had flagellates in her gut and she was tube-fed some antibiotics. The doctor said they could be the problem or just a symptom of it. Looks like it's the latter case, unfortunately, because she's still not eating and she's doing weird things like sleeping in her water dish. I gave her a warm bath to try and soothe her indigestion. She didn't enjoy it but she's stopped sleeping in the water.

I need to get her to another vet, though, because the herp specialist who treated her last time is as far as I know still on vacation. I hope she improves soon. This is what she looked like late last year. I want to see her like this again. (Minus the toe she seems to have chewed off. Don't know what happened there.)

Had something similar happen to one of my geckos. Vet gave something specific for it, don't remember exactly what, had to force feed it to her. Ended up having some internal organ or something turning colorful and visible through her belly right before she died. Might want to take her to a vet before it gets worse.

Slate tiles, with calcium sand filling the cracks. There's not really enough sand in the cage for her to get impacted with. I've gone through all the possible causes and an infestation of some sort seems to be the issue. Just need to wait for the animal clinic to open up so I can give them a call.

Odd that I posted a thread in /an/ asking for advice and nobody gave a shit, but when I come into /tg/ and post about her everyone wants to talk to me.

also you need to be careful about that, if she goes malnourished for too long her bones become very brittle, and if you're force feeding you could easily fracture the skull or jaw. fuck i need to go feed my carpet python
