So, why has nobody suggested Ranger yet? He doesn't use more than leather armor, and the bow has always been second in importance for him only to his sword. He isn't a physical powerhouse soaking up damage, he's a lightly-armored, nimble character dancing around his enemies' attacks and dishing out tons of damage by attacking their weak points with sword and arrow. That suggests Ranger to me, maybe even Rogue.

    A Ranger with Shield? Did I miss something on 4E? The builds aren't Bow/ 2Weapons/ 1Weapon+Beast?

And rogue with Longsword and shield?

I agree he is more of a Striker, but there isn't at this time an Striker class where he can fit. We could go for some class with a secondary roll of Striker.

So fix it with a feat. It makes more sense to have a ranger who picked up shield proficiency through a feat than a fighter who voluntarily forgoes heavy armor.

As for the ocarina stuff, I'd say give him Perform as a class skill through a background. The actual magical effects have mostly been explained as properties of the instrument, not the player.

I'd say he's a half-elf fighter, high strength, high dexterity. With focus on skills like athletics and acrobatics, so he doesn't use heavy armor. Multiclassed (Hybrid maybe?) bard, so he can use bard rituals.

Bard in Pathfinder is the only 'Does Everything passable well' class there is. Previous versions sucked, and 4e requires a lot of specializations the Brad usually doesn't have access, forcing him to be a broad power user instead. Not that it's impossible for the 4e bard to manage, it's just easier in Pathfinder. And 3.5 is right out.

Out of the box a lvl 1 Ranger could emulate what Link is capable of doing. I've been statting him as a regular player character. (god I'm such a geek)

Fight was my first choice for Link actually.

I don't remember ever finding a way to break the fuck out of them, but I didn't really try. I just went for a build I called the "Linguomancer." Lots of fun, not supremely powerful.

There was a 1d4 Chan page with a build for Link.

    Highlights

    * Similar to Link, this character is good at a great number of things. He can add his Factotum level to skills, giving him a wide array of options in almost any situation. With all the puzzles he needs to figure out, Link needs this high Intelligence, and this intelligence is channeled into the different abilities he gains. Finally, he gains a spiritual companion who can be as annoying or snarky as the player wishes, making for interesting roleplaying.
    * At level 12, you gain a Blade Guide. (Navi or Midna, for example.)
    * Int mod can be added to:
o Attack and damage twice (Eternal Training, Cunning Insight)
o Damage when flanking or catching foes Flat-footed (Battle Cunning)
o AC twice (Defensive Insight, Cunning Defense)
o Knowledge checks (Cunning Knowledge gives 3, Eternal Knowledge gives your Int mod + 9, and Collector of Stories another +5 for a total of Int x2 + ranks + 17, adds to attacks through Knowledge Devotion)
o Reflex Saves twice (Battle Clarity, Cunning Insight)
o Strength and Dexterity checks and Strength- and Dexterity-based skill checks (Brains Over Brawn)
o Critical Confirmation rolls (Battle Ardor)
    * Use Robilar's Gambit in combination with Stormguard Warrior to gain a bonus to attack and damage whenever an enemy attempts to attack you. (Capitalize on this with Power Attack.)
    * Shore up that low Will save by picking up Moment of Perfect Mind.
    * Access to level 9 maneuvers by level 19; Combat Rhythm + Time Stands Still followed in the next round by Diamond Nightmare Blade can be very devestating.

...How are you the first person who mentioned the Factorum in this thread? Especially since the whole POINT of the class is its an ace of all trades.
...I mean, it still doesn't completely translate, but...

There was a Shadowrun thread I enjoyed a while ago about Link as a Changeling with some trippy multiple layers of reality/perception adventures.

You people are making this more complicated than it needs to be.
