My GM let me make my own 100 point character and told me to make one that would fit for a mystery style game with some action. Tell me how I can min/max my character to show the GM what a piece of shit system this is and then maybe we can get back to playing D&D 3.5

    >> Anonymous 04/09/10(Fri)04:34 No.9079873
Combat is not as fun in gurps but you can play virtually any campaign setting or character with out totally breaking the system or employing annoying broken home brew rules. This is because the points for any advantage or disadvantage are based on there usefulness. If something is broken you are not properly accounting for how useful it is or for how much it does not hinder you in the circumstances.

The easiest way to lol break the system is to be totally socially retarded but you can only take so many disadvantages with out needing GM approval so you can not take it to far, and in trues the GM would be in his rights to declare further disadvantages in the same thing would have a reduced point value because the new social disadvantage piled atop a lot of other social disadvantages would not hinder you much more.

    >>9079753
You can get a dependent that will give you some favors and it counts as a disadvantage. I guess if the dependent had a dependent then dependent one would be higher point value but is sounds like silly bullshit.

How is the game "breakable"? In an anything goes game, the GM can literally outfuck you. In any other kind of game, it's specifically up to the GM to regulate what is and is not allowable in-game.

GURPS is hardly a system. It is a series of models that aspiring GMs must put together into their own system. GURPS is only as breakable as the GM allows it to be.
    >> Anonymous 04/09/10(Fri)08:05 No.9081986
On the one hand, it's easy to break, but on the other, it's really really obvious when you do so...

Buy Bash Skill: Detective! Max it out.

And Weapon Master. Then put one point in each weapons skill you want.

You now have a character fully optimized for this campaign, so... congratulations! Of course the GM will find a way to deprive you of your weapons.

    >>9081998
    >>9081997
Merely examples of some of the things the system contains rules for. Any GM worth his salt would either outlaw these capabilities or build a campaign/setting/system with the assumption that they will be used.

GURPS relies on the GM knowing what the hell he's doing more than other systems. That is the trade off for its flexibility.
    >> Anonymous 04/09/10(Fri)08:12 No.9082045
Yeah see, there's nothing in GURPS to stop you from making an omniproficient character, in fact the game goes out of its way to make it easy by providing bash skills, talents, and advantages like Gunslinger.

The only thing stopping you is the fact that your character sheet will now have a line that says Gunslinger on it, and if the GM does not want broken combat, he will either veto that advantage or give it to a bunch of enemies as well.

No one helped you, cockgoblin. GURPS is far less breakable than, say, DnD. Also, GMs are overpowered in GURPS. He can veto ANYTHING on your sheet, or your whole character, and if you go and try actively to disrupt the fun for everyone, they'll have fun despite of you. In the end, you have two options. Either roll with it, or get kicked out of the group.

    You can do the following:

    1. Get a character designer program appropriate for your edition. Discworld is 3e.

    2. Build your character using appropriate skills - AND the Discworld book (and Discworld Also) as guidelines. Remember, 100 points.

    3. Sigh in despair when you notice that you can't really break the game. Disadvantages tend to be heavy burdens.

Actually, if you just want to ruin the campaign instead of breaking the game, getting a lot of disadvantages is generally enough, even if you didn't even spend the points. Because A character that's a coward, a pyromaniac, and whoever knows what else, is a goddamn nightmare to the GM and makes a plot impossible.

But eh, OP is obvious troll. Monosyllabic responses, aggressive and provocative behaviour, and inability to grasp opposing points, trying to convince people that he's an attention whore girl gamer... about the only point he forgot is adding disparaging comments about D&D4e to spark an edition war as well.

    Regia Odessa Scarlet, age 21

Born into a uberwaldian werewolf/vampire family she made her own staff at age 5 and became a power who controlled her family, her immense power and interest in mirrors led to her getting trapped in them at age 14, where the elf queen raped her until she liked it and showed her the real powers of magic. She recently came to AM after a tearful and sex filled farewell to her busty elven lover where she decided to learn the secrets of the octavo and become the new god of discworld

Take an absurd series of disadvantages to add up to fifty odd. Use this to buy skills, maybe a point of dex as most combat stats work off dex.
Maybe look into a torrent for Martial Arts, so you have loads of esoteric strikes and such. Your disadvantages can then add up to Stuff like duty tonyour temple, vow to protect the cosmic order etc etc

Give yourself with 100pts "Altered Time Rate"

for every second in combat your party has, you get two.

All out attack strong, all out defense. Always hit never get hit.

    Women cannot be Wizards.

The Book Equal Rites was a one off exception and the possibilty of it every happening again are as close to zero as you can get. Why is it you ask? Becuase Thats how the Wizarding system works. (Men become Wizards while Women become Witchs.)

It actually would, there's even an ability in GURPS Discworld that lets you communicate with people you don't share a language with as long as you SPEAK. LOUDLY. AND. SIMPLE. LIKE. THIS. as if the other person is just pretending to not understand you. See any American tourist to know what I mean. That advantage was what inspired my character idea in the first place. Also the mental image of a dark-skinned man wearing only a grass skirt, glasses sitting in the Mended Drums and taking notes on the primitive behavior of the simple natives is somewhat amusing.

    Right now were getting somewhere.

First off it depends on what you want to play without being insane.

If you want to play a Werewolf Chick thats fine. If you wanted to add something to that (Like being a Female Werewolf Assassin or something.) Then that would be a little wierd but still entirely possible. (Girl was dropped off at the Assassin guild by mistake or something.)

If you really want magical abilties just play a Witch.
(Becuase thats how it works. Men with magical abilties are trained as Wizards while women are trained as Witchs. Same power level, just differnt uses for the magic. Not to mention Witchs get Headology. While Wizards are Cosmic Wild Cards.)

To make a regular sexy masochist werewolf chick:
Buy Alternate Form: Wolf (cost will vary depending on what werewolves are like in this world)
    Buy Appearance: Very Beautiful
Buy Lecherous, CR 12 (not Extremely Hazardous because most masochistic practices actually aren't)
Many levels in Sex Appeal and Erotic Art

Discworld is full of sex jokes, it's just that they are almost always implied and "off screen", which keeps it tasteful and avoids the awkward sex scenes that tend you pop in other fantasy books. Discworld characters have sex and some of it is probably quite kinky, but they do it during scene cuts.

If you're going for maximum sexiness go for a hot werewolf assassin or thief.
Occasionally she'll use her looks to get close to the mark and lure him to bed before murdering him or knocking him out and stealing his stuff.

I'd still think she should have an overall carefree, optimistic and happy-go-lucky attitude (Along with acting like an overgrown puppy.)

I wouldn't really call the scene between Sally and Angua sexual, since it's really more about built-up distrust and dramatic tension between them than anything sexy. In fact, it practically stops as soon as Sally mentions that the whole situation is unintentionally sexy. After that, Angua is too busy feeling awkward to be angry.
