So, a couple days ago I asked about Sword of the Stars using the Mongoose Traveller system. The response was small but positive, which I take as a good sign. I'm slapping together stats for the alien races right now. These are pretty much stream-of-consciousness statting right now, but that's how this white boy rolls.

Here's the Zuul females, males are right behind them. I thought about statting them up as animals, but the alien stats seems easier.

    Zuul (Female):

Zuul females are the larger of the sexes, the strong arm of the Zuul. They are large creatures, strong and fast, but nearly mindless, when not under the control of a male the female acts like a wild animal. Young Zuul females are traded like commodities amongst the male Zuul, who are physically weak but emmensly psycically powerful, the females are controlled like puppets, becoming the eyes and arms of the male.

Zuul Females are Large (Strength and endurance 3d6), Weak Intellect (Zuul females only roll a 1d3 for their intelligence score), Armored, Fast Metabolism, Feral, Natural Weapon (Wrist spikes).

    So, uhh. Discuss I guess.

Zuul will probably have to have a few more tweaks than just what is found in the Core rulebook, most likely some Telepathy talent to replicate Mind Ripping and coercion abilities, but here's a good start I think.

    Zuul (Male):

Zuul males are weaker creatures than the females, but making up for that with malicious intelligence and tremendous psycic ability. Zuul fund their leaps in technology with the ripped minds of their slaves. Knowledge is power in Zuul society, so renowed interrogators are both dangerious and respected amonst other Zuul; particularly intelligent captives will have their mind slowly pulled apart over months or even years as the Zuul try to draw every last piece of information from their mind. Zuul males are physically unimpressive, but as soon as they reach maturity, their psychic powers allow them to control the females of their species like deadly puppets, using them to guard themselves and as troops and crew on the battlefield.

Zule males are Psionic and have Notable Psionic Strength (+4), Strong Intellect (+2), Weak Strength (-4) and Weak Endurance (-2). All Zuul males have Talent (Telepathy) 0 at character creation.

    There is only Zuul.

Isn't the Sword of the Stars part of a Bajoran prophecy?

Zuul ships are a bunch of space-trash bolted together and covered with as many guns as they can mount on the hull. They are supremely orky.

    >>8904348

Did you come up with stats for any of the other races yet?

Coming, as I said I'm pretty much slapping these together as I go along for lack of a more intelligent approach. Working on hivers right at this moment and will probably stick with Princes and maybe princess with them. Probably Liir after them.

I've just wanted to have Zuul as a villainous race since the first time my experiences with Traveller and Sword of the Stars coincided.

It'll be interesting to see how you deal with Liir being incredibly long lives and capable of growing from dolphin-size into gargantuan psychic space whales.

Zuul are great if only for the fact that they use the skulls of elder liir as part of their ships from time to time. Especially on the command sections.

Probably with "Liir are psionic uplifted dolphins. Liir Elders are NPCs with psionic power in the realm of Referee Fiat and fat asses that have trouble getting into spaceships nowadays."

I'd always wondered where those skulls came from. I never clocked the connection until now.

    Hiver Princes:

Hivers are the name given by humans to the this insect-like race that resembles the communal insects of the Terran homeworld such as Ants, Termites, and Bees, and are also given the name Bugs. Their own word for themselves translate closer to "The Children." The Children to not have a hive mind, though all the children of a particular princess or queen are driven by hormones, genetics, and social structure to be fanatically loyal to their mothers, and to a lesser extent their fathers. Hiver Princes stand apart from the average worker or warrior in that their first loyalty is to themself and to the hive that calles him father, rather than to his mother alone. Hiver princes are unique in their society in that they are allowed to choose their own destinies, and some use that advantage to walk along the stars or among alien races. Princes with a powerful reputation for being strong or cunning can become a huge prize amongst the princesses back in hiver space. And while wandering is acceptable, hiver princes do still have a responsibility to marry and spread their genes. 'Divorce' is not unheard of and Hiver Princes can live for over 300 years, so some hivers leave children scattered over known space. Hivers are large creatures, around 250 kilograms, with four 'arms', two of which are deadly 'Dueling Blades', and have large but non-fuctional wings.

Hiver Princes are Armored, Large (Strength 3d6), Natural Weapons (Dueling Blades), Slow Metabolism.

I'm a hiver fanboy, in case you couldn't tell by the length and content of the descriptions. Anyway, I'm up for discussion about the FTL drives for the various races.

A couple can come from the book's page 109 about alternate Jump Drives, like the Warp Drive for the Tarka, some kind of modified Teleport Drive for the hivers, but I don't think any race uses anything like the Hyperspace, other than it's also pretty similar to what the Tarka use.

Anyway, thats probably all from me for a little while, got to pack up at work. Hopefully this will still be here when I get back, or even (I would be so proud of myself) archived.

Tarka use warp, a la Star Trek.
Hivers use this in reverse which gives them the ability to spontaneously move anywhere that there is a gate. But the gate takes about a year to set up once it's in place.
Liir use flickerwarp -- that is, they teleport thousands of times per second, so much so that it looks like smooth motion. Also means mass drivers don't knock them around like most races get knocked around. The closer they are to a gravity well, the slower the rate of their movement due to having to compensate. Shitty orbital combat is shitty.
The Morrigi drives are SOMEWHAT similar to Tarka drives, but the more ships, the faster they go, up to a certain limit anyways. Certain ships can augment the speed. Different FTL method, in the end.
Humans exploit existing cracks in spacetime between large gravity wells (stars) and zip around very quickly, in exchange for not being able to fly to any arbitrary point with their FTL.
Zuul do this too, except they crack spacetime themselves. This makes things that live outside realspace angry.

Unfortunately I am not at all familiar with Traveller, so I am not sure if I could help with this. Sorry. :/
