The pressure descended slowly, but relentlessly.

It was not so much a presence, or an absence, as a singular overload.

Imagine, if you will, a radio set to a channel being played from another country. Except the language is utterly incomprehensible, you're fairly certain humans can't make some of the noises, and it keeps fading out.

Then, get a hundred radios. Tune them all to the same station. Turn some of them up high, some of them up low, and put others on a playback delay.

Then, wire them all into a single pair of headphones.

THAT is what the scourge's commands were like-not so much a "shadow" as the Adeptans called it, but an all-consuming static of sheer incomprehensibility.

Some pokemon were weak to it-the Abras were driven from their permanent sleep, to open eyes not meant to see-many were driven mad. Psyducks went a wrong kind of sane-their permanent headaches cancelled out by the constant static, they took to muttering un-words that hurt to hear.

But in all of this, there was a panacea. Slowpokes, usually a sheer bane to our kin for their all-consuming stupidity, provided safe zones-calm, blessed silence from which we could attack properly. From there, it was possible-if difficult-to begin to override the Scourge.

Do NOT start whining to me about how your home was overrun. According to the Adeptans, we're doing unimaginably well."

It had only been a few months since the Scourge had attacked, but already the world had changed.

Gym Leaders had retreated from their cities as the Scourge moved from the east, slowly moving back, bit by bit, to the most defensible place in the world-the Indigo Plateau. Built aeons ago in a time of strife, the ancestral home of the Elite Four proved a capable home for the many refugees streaming in. Pallet Town, Saffron City, and many others-Lavender Town's many ghosts chewed a hole in the Static, their very presence rending the hive-mind asunder. Some took favored bodies from the horde, while others built their own from rent flesh and broken bone.

Training had become nearly nil-outside the strictest definition of the word. Long-disused tunnels and stadiums deep beneath Victory Road were opened once more, and constant sparring became a certainty.

No trainer was to leave the blockaded Viridian City unless traveling in a group of four minimum, with an average Pokemon level of 30. Flashy attacks and number of pokemon to be used were both rescinded, League orders-every trainer carried as many suitable pokemon as possible, and fought with as many capable at a time.

The Adeptans, ambassadors of the star-empire, sent their own representatives out on any great excursion, humans fused with guns of unfamiliar make and model. These "Skitarii" were as dangerous as any well-trained Pokemon, and developed as fearsome a reputation as any good trainer.

(Yeah, it's getting a bit shit. I know.)

Alright, fellow fa/tg/uys, you have a choice of what you want to see next.

    1) Poor, young trainer explores the corridors beneath Indigo Plateau and cleans as he goes along, pondering what his life might have been like if not for the Scourge.
    2) Adeptans and Silph Co refugees experiment in an attempt to render captured 'Nids controllable.
    3) "Arsenals"-a look at the armories of Adeptans and Pokemon Humans. Will feature such things as massive rows of shelving going out into the middle distance, each shelf full of hundreds of pokeballs and Youngsters being trained with lasguns.
    4) A Grass trainer and his Ivysaur hunt nids for bounties in Viridian Forest.
    5) Mewtwo and Sabrina meditate together.
    6) Adeptans take to capturing their own pokemon the same way they take to everything else-with a lot of incense, bowing, rituals, and attempt not to cause offense.

    What would you like?

    6 it is!

What the Indigo Plateau was for humans, Lavender Town was for Pokemon. For a mile in every direction, every Ghost pokemon strong enough to warrant the name patrolled, seeking a body, seeking a kill, or merely protecting that which it had failed to guard in life. Pokemon swam in the sea, hid in the grass, and took up every bit of space they possibly could. Long-suffering caretakers kept the ancient town in shape, caring for each tombstone, each house, each pokemon as best they could, providing perches for those that flew, forage for those that ran, and a caring hand or listening ear for those that required nothing else. The depths of Rock Tunnel to the north held nothing of value to the Scourge, and the bridges to the south had long since been broken away-anything to deny the Great Enemy a chance to advance.

It was to this scene that the Adeptus Biologis came, swinging censers of sweetly scented oils, chanting thrans of ingratiation and friendship, carrying with reverent unfamiliarity the Po-keballs gifted them by those from Silph.

From halfway up Pokemon Tower, a Haunter watched, communing with several of its kin.

-The adeptans are amusing humans, are they not? Instead of the order of battle we've always used, they seek to ingratiate themselves, to try for the bond of friendship before the bond of strength has been established.-

Another of its kin, nearly indistinguishable but for pose, gave a movement possibly construable as a shrug.

-And yet, their strength is evident. Even without the assistance of partners, they strike down the Scourge that desire to do no more than devour us and add us to their essence. Surely this is nothing more than an attempt to save time?-

-You have a point. Perhaps we should, indeed, talk to these friends of Mewtwo. After all, they seek their own Pokemon; better us, than a Rattata.-

The ritual was, on the part of the Adeptans, a hurried, much...improvised...thing, loath as the order was to accept the concept. The Haunters that had discussed their fate only minutes before waited patiently as schematic-sigils were drawn, incense burnt, and incantations intoned, nearly sighing in relief as the Tech-Priests cast their Poke-balls. Within, the pair bided their time, resisting the panic of claustrophobia-and reacting with pleasant surprise as their world went blue as the ball locked.

I'm sorry man, it's late, and I'm tired.

I'll try and get one more story out.

    -----

The young trainer was one of many among the refugees-in the world before this, he would have been a debuting trainer, ready to go out into the world with a pokemon given by a training friend, a trusted relative, or an old associate.

But in the days shortly after the advent of the Scourge, there had been no time to begin the journey of a new Trainer-time only to pull what little of value he had from his home-games and a single Potion-and flee north with his mother, his rival, and their families.

When they had reached Indigo Plateau, there was a great riot of activity, but little useful he could do. Nevertheless, he argued his case well with a distracted bureaucrat and got a newly caught Rattata, a backpack of tools, and a job for his trouble-clean out the tunnels under the Indigo Plateau, and prepare them for their new residents.

Down stairways and through hallways marked with sudden trails of footsteps through decades' worth of dust, past locked doors open for the first time in centuries, the young trainer strode. Somewhere along the way, he threw the ball down, and plucked it back when the Rattata he'd been given held it out.

Finally, when he was sure no one could hear, he slumped to the ground and let out a muffled sob.
    >> Anonymous 03/29/10(Mon)05:46 No.8852826
    >>8852820

It wasn't supposed to happen like this!

He'd had it all planned out-he was supposed to be getting his Pokemon today-one of the three an old family friend had long since promised. He'd gone to bed smiling, sure the next day would hold the beginning to a great adventure...

...only to be awoken bare hours later by his panicked mother, packing away his NES and potion into his backpack with a large jar of peanut butter, some jam, and a loaf of bread, and fleeing the rattling rumble coming from the south.

A second sob joined the first, and soon, the young trainer was crying bitter tears, weeping for a future lost.

Sharp claws barely dug into his skin as the Rattata climbed its way up to his shoulder and nuzzled against him, licking at his tears, trying to comfort its trainer.
    It worked.
The young trainer looked up, and pulled an arm across his eyes, sniffing a bit, and standing up, closing the pokeball he'd been loosely dangling from half-open fingers.
    "So, you're Rattata, I suppose."
"Ta ra ra, ra ra ta ta rattata."
    "Yeah, pleasure's mine, I guess."
The young trainer took a moment to look down, noting the thick dust, marred only by his footsteps and his tears.

"Guess this is as good a place to start as any. In any case, my name's Red. Hold the dustpan for me, would you?"

TBH, I'm assuming that Red=Ash, and therefore that most of his supposed "skill" came from getting Super Pikachu early on. In this verse he didn't get a whole lot of power right off the bat, so he's going to be a lot more wily. Think more Catachan Jungle Fighter-he's going to be as good with a lasgun or stub rifle as he is with a pokeball, and decidedly more clever than Ash.

tl;dr this pic, but with Brock as well as Misty, a Rattata instead of a Pikachu, and a hellgun strap under the Rattata.

I'm trying to go for a more STALKER than Pokemon feeling here. There's no -one- amazing Trainer-there are a few really good ones, a decent chunk of okay ones, and a bunch of scrubs attempting to become the former and usually ending up as the latter. Better to have the talent spread out than in one tasty package of biomass for the nids to munch before they fuck over the entire world.

Red was the chosen one. He's the trainer who woke up early and got his pokemon on time, unlike Ash. He dominated the gyms, faster than Gary Oak did. He fought Team Rocket to a stand still and won.

Bottom line is this-I'm assuming whoever else he might have been, Red is the player character. The attempt here is to make the reader realize -this is not your childhood's pokemon-, here is a place where all your pokemon being too fucked up to fight means the Nids nom you and your pokemon, where a lasgun is just as useful a tool as a Repel or pokeball.

I'm not going to say there are no heroes, because there will be-but there are not going to be any Grecian-style ultra-heroes that can do no wrong. Red is going to be tough; he is going to be clever, he is going to be an excellent trainer-but he is NOT going to have a solid belt of rare Lv80 pokemon.

    Now. What next?

    ---
The Adeptans had returned to their own addition to the Indigo Plateau-a tower of rust-red steel marked with their skull-and-gear sigil, dangling cables here and there, rising from the soil and burrowed deep into the rock. Upon their return, the Tech-Priests had been greeted with approval and...tacit approval, as best Haunter could understand it. Despite working with flesh rather than machine, the Adeptus Biologis was still very much part of the Adeptus Mechanicus, and it showed in their philosophy. Emotion was limited, if not completely eliminated, what little remained kept for reasons of pragmatism. One who knows fear can know caution; one who knows happiness can strive for it through perfection of technique; one who knows anger can hone it into a weapon.

The Tech-Priest had opted to write the systems of the pokeball he had been given into his augmetics, and as such his Pokemon communed with him at a nearly constant rate. The connection was an odd one-Haunter found himself capable of browsing the Tech-Priest's files nearly constantly, only to have the Tech-Priest comment on his memories in turn.

As they would with any new and unfamiliar technology, Haunter and his trainer had been sequestered away in a chamber for study. Cables of blessed wire ran across the floor and dipped to and from ports marked with purity seals. A slow fan carried a faint haze of incense proof against daemonic corruption, and the techpriest murmured sacraments while disassembling a small machine of some sort.

All of this, Haunter watched with curiosity and a certain amount of confusion. The Tech-Priest assembled the little engine with the ease and absentmindedness of long practice, and yet he continued to build the same thing again and again-something that struck the Pokemon as extremely pointless.

-So, why are you building that?-
    >> Anonymous 03/29/10(Mon)06:58 No.8853472
    >>8853410
IT IS PROOF AGAINST THE WARP. The techpriest replied simply. TO FOCUS ON A REPETITIVE BUT FAMILIAR TASK HYPNOTIZES DAEMONS INTO INACTION, OR DRIVES THEM AWAY THROUGH ENNUI.

-So...in short, it bores them to death.-

The tech-priest's respirator buzzed for a second, and amusement registered across Haunter's consciousness for a moment.

THE ECCLESIARCHY WOULD COMPLAIN OF THAT BEING NEEDLESSLY CONCISE, BUT YES, YOU ARE CORRECT. NEVERTHELESS, IT IS A NEEDFUL THING. EVEN NOW MY ASSOCIATES ATTEMPT TO CONFIRM THAT YOU ARE NOT A DAEMON-FOR TO DISCOVER A POSSIBLE WEAPON AGAINST THE TYRANIDS ONLY TO LOSE OUR SOULS TO CREATURES OF THE WARP WOULD BE...DISAPPOINTING.
The Tech-Priest's tone expressed slightly more than the one word-an indication of centuries spent experiencing roughly the same thing from many new techniques and technologies. In truth, it was a necessary task, if a tedious one.

    -So, then...what is this...*warp*, thing? And what's a daemon?-

The Tech-Priest's reply was first a wordless one of amusement, quickly followed by bemusement-and then abject confusion.

I-WHAT? YOU DO NOT KNOW OF THE WARP? WHERE ALL SOULS GO WHEN THEY DIE?
...YOUR WORLD IS STRANGE, BUT I/WE WAS CERTAIN THAT IT...WASN'T DISCONNECTED FROM THE IMMATERIUM.

-No, I'm being serious. I honestly don't know. When Pokemon die, they become ghosts, and sometimes Ghost pokemon like my kin and I-first Gastly, then Haunter and finally Gengar. Humans become ghosts too, sometimes, but not as often...and I've never heard of a 'warp' from them. What is it?-

...IN TRUTH, NOT MANY KNOW. THE WARP GOES BY MANY NAMES-IMMATERIUM, WARPSPACE, ETHERIUM, AETHER, THE SEA OF SOULS, AND THE TWISTING NETHER. IT IS BOTH A PLACE BESIDE SPACE AND NOT, WHERE ALL CONCEPTS ARE MUTABLE-I AM INSUFFICIENTLY PIOUS TO BE ALLOWED TO KNOW MORE. I APOLOGIZE, HAUNTER.

    -It's alright.-

THANK YOU. BUT-ARE YOU SURE? IS THERE NO WARP AROUND THIS WORLD?

PSYCHICS, YOU SAY. DO YOU MEAN PSYKERS? PSYKERS CONNECT TO THE WARP AND CHANNEL IT AGAINST THEIR FOES IN LIGHTNING, IN MIND-MELDING AND IN MENTAL ATTACKS, TO LIFT AND MOVE THINGS AND TO TURN THE EFFECTS OF THE TWISTING NETHER AGAINST THEIR FOES, WHILE BEING SUBJECT TO ITS BACKLASH. Alright, I'm going to be straight with you lot. Right now I'm awake mostly through inertia; I have little doubt that if I were to close my laptop, turn on my fan and turn off my light, I could roll over and be asleep in seconds.

But since I don't want to just up and leave a thread in which people are approving of me, I'm just going to leave behind a few facts from this particular timeline.

    -The Tech-Priest's name is Wilhelm.
-Slowpoke work something akin to underclocking-they slow things down metaphysically enough that the "haze" of the Shadow in the Warp is merely redirected into its various (still incomprehensible) commands, allowing attempts at deciphering or remote hijacking of synapse creatures, though the latter is limited mostly to Mewtwo, Alakazams, and Hypnoes (Hypni?) and other Psychic pokemon of sufficient mental might.
-This goes for Slowbro as well, though the slowing is lessened but ease of thought is greatened. Slowking, if used in this universe, would be able to control synapse creatures, but not provide the same aura.
-The slowing effect will work on Daemons, as they are creatures of pure thought.
-Most Psychic pokemon can communicate through thought, but most haven't bothered. Psyduck communications are heralded and identified by strong sympathetic pain.
-Red will end up bedding Misty, befriending Brock, winning a Hellgun in a poker game, and possibly gaining an Ivysaur.
-Super Pikachu will end up being studied by the AdBio and provide a decent chunk of Indigo Plateau's power.

Alright folks, I'm back. Woke up, had a bowl of off-brand Totally Not Cinnamon Toast Crunch We Swear, and let my laptop boot up while I ate it.

Few things I'm going to lay down right here-

-The various Glitch Pokemon are going to be from interaction between the "un-words" Mewtwo mentioned and unsuspecting Porygons, with a touch of Static in for flavor. Missingno and Mark Female aren't Daemons except in the loosest sense, as in "creatures of the warp with something wrong with them." Missingno still clones items endlessly, but again, it's a creature of scrapcode, which scares the fuck out of the AdMech.
-This is JUST Gen I. I'm fond of Gen II, but if I let that in then I have to let Jirachi in, and Jirachi is just solid hax. Plus, he looks fucking stupid. On the other hand, pokemon are still monotremes (egg-laying mammals, for any underage B&s reading) and I'm debating whether to add Gen II's Berries.
-No, neither the God-Emperor or Arceus will be showing up, for the same reason Jesus doesn't come flying out of the sky in STALKER, bitch-slap the Monolith, and lead the Military, Loners, Duty, and Freedom into HARMONY HARMONY OH LOVE. If the idea amuses you, you can write; write it somewhere else.

Anyway. We can continue with Haunter and Wilhelm, or move on to Arsenals-or see Red's first meeting with Brock. What would you prefer, fellow fa/tg/uys?

Wait, Gen 1? The gen where Dark Type doesn't exist, and the only Ghosts are the Ghastly line (which, being Poison, was weak against Psychic)?

Actually, I may involve the Dark type, since Psychic is involved with the Warp. It'd be hilarious to see a stereotypically "evil" group of Pokemon destroying Daemons.

Also, I don't remember if Ghosts were strong or weak against Psychic in Gen I. It's been a long time.

Every wise government keeps a stock of weapons. For one, it might be chemically-propelled lead. For another, honed steel. For a third, burning plasma.

    The Pokemon League kept Pokemon.

No Champion lives forever. When a Champion dies, an Elite dies, a highly ranked Trainer dies, their Pokemon are set aside, kept in the stasis of their Pokeballs.

Beneath the Indigo Plateau, doors closed for decades slid open, lights murmuring and flickering on, shelves of meticulously labeled Balls and Apricorns stretching into the distance.

Here, the finest weapons the League have ever collected remain. Every stage of Pokemon development is here, every level, every move and strategy represented.

For the first time in decades, it is necessary to use them.

Rattatas captured to keep them from damaging food supplies, Mankeys captured to keep them from vandalism, Tentacool captured en masse during blooms, Spearow and Pidgey culled from mass migrations and Nidoran of both genders are distributed to every child of Training age. Proven trainers receive Ponyta, Tentacruel, Geodude, Oddish, Sandshrew, Pikachu and Bellsprout.

All others are gained by merit.

Old gymnasiums and stadiums are unmothballed; lights brought on and every trainer with a Pikachu paid and fed to feed electricity into batteries empty for lack of need. Generators thrum into life, hydroponic vats fill, and the Indigo Plateau reveals the hidden 75% of its metaphorical iceberg.

All of this is needed for the many refugees.

    >> Adeptan Writefag 03/29/10(Mon)22:50 No.8866978
The Adeptans are shocked. By all rights, nowhere near this many people should have survived-and yet, here they are, borne on the Pokemon of Gym Leaders and strong local Trainers. After the first wave, scanners are put in place, and yet no Genestealers, no packages, no hidden mutations are found.

Rather than endanger just-blossomed relations, the Adeptus Biologis takes it at face value. The age of a trainer is much the same of that of a conscript on a world under attack-so factories in the Adeptus Biologis Auxiliary Tower whirr into life. Parts are stamped, cast, and welded, newly inducted Acolytes learning the craft of circuitry by building lasgun after lasgun. Battery packs and the weapons to use them are churned out, one by one, issued to trainers only just handed their own first Pokemon.

Those with Pokemon that can dig, command them to do so, for firing ranges are needed. Any Trainer desiring a stipend to seek better Pokemon, better food, or better lodgings, may train his Pokemon or his own skill as a sharpshooter.

The smell of ozone becomes a familiar and somewhat comforting one.

It is in this frenzy that Red meets Brock, assigned by an overworked bureaucrat to a firing range yet unbuilt. The Pewter City Gym Leader is surprisingly less gruff than he seems on first glance, and gives the young trainer his second pokemon-a Sandshrew eager to help dig away the strong brown rock.

They dig a full range before lunch is called, and sit down in the as-of-yet still rough room, excess rock cut into large slabs for target use. It is on such a slab that the Gym Leader and the young trainer commiserate. Red has a PB&J that he shares with his Rattata, while his new Sandshrew finds a choice bit of rock and gnaws at it. Brock's Geodude has dug well, and joins the Sandshrew in its repast.
    >> Adeptan Writefag 03/29/10(Mon)22:52 No.8867025
    "So...a Gym Leader?"

"Yeah. Pewter City is more or less defensible as is-what with the canyon surrounding Route 3, and the emptiness of Mount Moon, the Tyranids won't have anything to eat-not to mention that Mewtwo's home is near there. I'm told he can wrest control from them and turn them against each other." Brock took a bite from his sandwich, chewed for a moment, and swallowed before speaking again. "But most of the people up in Pewter Town are high-ranking League associates keeping an eye on the place anyway. Since the whole Gym Challenge system is down for however long the invasion lasts, I'm here, helping to dig more homes. I'm just kinda surprised how much was already here."

Red pulled off a corner of his sandwich and handed it to his Rattata, stroking the little Pokemon behind the ear as it eats. "That's...pretty decent of you-and yeah, I would never have guessed all of this was under here, from the time Mom brought me up to see. How long do you think this is going to last?"

At that, Brock stopped for a moment, chewing contemplatively, before swallowing again and shrugging with a sigh. "Truth be told, I don't really know. The Adeptans are shocked it's all going so well-according to them, with a planet of our "tech level," we'd all be dead already...if it weren't for the "indigenous xenofauna." He patted his Geodude on the head. "All I know is, I'm not gonna count my Pokemon before they hatch. If we win, then so much the better. Until we win, there's no point to posturing about like a bunch of Fearow. All I know is-if we survive this, this is going to be the hardest generation of Trainers the world has ever known."

All too soon, lunch is over. Red finishes his sandwich and milk; Brock finishes the last of his ham and cheese, and both return to work. Another range and a half are dug that afternoon, before afternoon becomes evening, and the call for dinner is sounded.

In the meantime, Brock and Red have become quick friends. Come dinnertime, the young trainer brings the Gym Leader to the table his mother claimed, and introduces him-much to his mother's pleasant surprise.
That night, dinner is a vegetable stir-fry over rice; a simple meal easily prepared from the supplies brought by those farmers mindful enough to bring provisions and to deny the Tyranids the same. It is a peaceful repast, broken with the occasional joke and playful flirting from Brock, flirts that Red's mother takes in stride.

After dinner and a quiet game of regicide, trainer and Gym Leader part ways, each heading to their own rooms. Red and his mother have a bunk-bed in a temporary barracks while more personal accommodations are dug.

Under an unfamiliar ceiling, to a call of "LIGHTS OUT!", Red falls asleep. It wasn't quite the adventure he imagined a few days ago, but it'll do.

It is morning, of a sort. The lights overhead rise slowly, from predawn twilight, to half-light, to full. In the barracks, people slowly begin to move, easing awake in beds unused for years, leaving quietly as not to rouse their fellows.

Red curls under a rough blanket, eyes tightly closed. He doesn't WANT to get up-it's nice and warm-but the light doesn't let up. With a groan, he lets his eyes open, and notes the Rattata curled, itself, next to him.

    Oh, right.

With a groan, Red sat up and grabbed his hat from the bedpost, settling it over uncombed hair as he does every morning. Scooting his Rattata carefully into his lap, he sits cross-legged and rubs sleep from his eyes, yawning quietly and stretching, before noting an object at the base of his bed-a pokeball,

    Attatched is a note.

=Figured you could use another Pokemon. It's a Tentacool, so it's not much, but Misty is teaching swimming and water tactics down at the Reservoirs. Just a little something for your help yesterday.

    Kudos, Brock.=

With a smile, Red hops down from the bed and tosses on a fresh shirt, slinging his lasgun over his shoulder and buckling his belt, clipping the pokeball to it and flipping the note over. On the back is a map-and instructions to the Reservoir.

It's a bit of a walk, but Red is getting used to walking. He'd known it would be a necessary thing as a Pokemon trainer, but he'd expected a bit more...sun, really.

But then, that was the old plan. And there isn't any point to the old plan anymore.

He hears the reservoir before he sees it-the characteristic splashing of either a pokemon battle or children at play. Judging by the happy yells and attack commands, he'd guess both-albeit happening in different areas.

With a start, it really hits him-this isn't a joke, or a game. Sure, he might be able to imagine all this happening as some great training program, but why bring the small children he can obviously hear frolicking in the shallows?

It's confirmed as he turns another corner, into a massive cavern. A sandy beach about five hundred yards distant is a playground for a riot of small children, a few dozen harried caretakers, and a trio of Chansey. Several are building a sand castle, and another two are arguing about it.

He turns the other way, and sees the source of the other sound he'd heard. A young woman in bright yellow with blue cutoffs and bright orange hair is kneeling next to a kid only a year or two his junior, talking to him about the aimlessly splashing Magikarp trying-and failing-to find a use for itself.

With another start, he realizes she can't be much older than he is-two to four years at the most.

The kid sighs, grabs a shiny gold pokeball, and summons the useless Pokemon back, only for the orange-haired girl to pat him on the shoulder, hand him a map, and indicate something. With a grin, the kid nods and races off, passing him after a second.

Red is watching him dash up the stairs when the orange-haired girl steps up next to him.

    "You're Red, right?"

"Brock had a word with me yesterday-asked me to teach you about Water-types. Said he'd get you a Tentacool-yeah, that's it, isn't it? Good 'nuff...listen, there's a locker room over there." She nodded at a squat concrete building against a nearby wall. "There'll be a few boxes of trunks in there, and a lock with a key in whichever locker you choose. Go on and get changed, and meet me on the end of the pier."

As promised, there are indeed a few boxes of trunks-neatly folded and made of inexpensive but sturdy cloth. The locker contains its lock-a heavy but durable thing-and a towel, as well as a mirror and a pair of swimmer's sandals.

The room is empty, but Red changes quickly nonetheless, locking his backpack and his other clothes inside his locker. His lasgun, his hat, and his belt come along-as well as Rattata, moving from its usual perch on his shoulder to one atop his hat. Minutes later, he's back outside, the sandals slapping his feet, to a smiling orange-haired.

"Whaddya know, you look good in a swimsuit. C'mon, let's hit the pool. Once you're in, we'll begin."

She strides off, only to look over her shoulder for a moment.

"Oh, and by the way, my name's Misty."

The water is...neutral, really, not really cold enough to be cold, but not warm enough to be warm either. Around his feet, however, it begins to get plenty cold-enough that Red quickly jerks his feet up before he begins to shiver.
Misty noticed, and chuckled. "Yeah, despite the warm top level, this is a spring-fed cavern lake. As for the cold, well...you'll get used to it after a while.I barely even feel it anymore."

For emphasis, she dives, and deep. For a moment, Red wonders where she's gone, peering into the depths-before he hears the sound of a splash behind him. He turns, and she's there-grinning happily.

"Plus, I could teach you to swim, too. Your basic doggy paddle won't do you much good, and you'll need a backup if your Tentacool is knocked out mid-surf."

The Indigo Underground is HUGE. Somewhere in the past, some Champion or planner decided it'd be needful to make a bolt-hole for the better part of Kanto, and the Indigo Underground is the result. By in large it's shelled in concrete, along the same style as Team Rocket uses-it's entirely likely that some of Team Rocket's bases are prototypes or aborted attempts to build or interconnect the Underground. It's entirely possible that there are tunnels that'll lead to the Rocket Bases and various tunnels, but that won't be for a while.

-There is going to be a timeskip of about six years after a bit more writing in this time period. The Pokemon League will have entrenched itself but expanded, creating massive walls of stone through sheer number of trainers with Rock-types. The wall will be around everything from the sea just south of Pallet Town to just about Cerulean City. Trainers will be split into several classes-Trainers being your freelancers, Pokemon Guard sponsored by the League and AdBiologis, Pokemon Rangers serving as scouts and snipers, and various specialized subgroups for different biomes-Snowguard, Seaguard, Stoneguard, etc etc.
-Red is going to be a Pokemon Ranger. No, it will have nothing to do with the Pokemon Ranger game; think STALKER with a lasgun and a belt of Pokeballs, possibly on a motorbike.
-Lance will not feature heavily. Mostly he's commanding from the rear, as the League can't afford to have the Nids nom him. Ditto the Elite Four.

Hit /rs/ and pick up a bunch of rulebooks and the DH books. The artbook of alien anatomy is up there too, though I don't remember the name.

DH tends to paint a decent picture of the little guy in 40k, too. It should give you a decent idea of how to paint the Adeptus Biologis and whatever adjuncts they have beside the Skitarii.

    >Nidoking curbstomping a Hive Tyrant
(well, fuck actual size differences this is a little Tyrant)

The Tyrant, scouting, on its own, didn't see it coming. Or smell it. Or hear it.

The only warning it had of the attack was the barest shiver of the earth before the Nidoking erupted from beneath the Tyrant's feet, sending the monstrous thing toppling, the pokemon pulling itself up the thing's body with terrible claws. The Tyrant was bred for ranged attack; the two cannons on its lower arms flailed around, unable to aim safely at the Nidoking, while the massive scythes on the other two were deftly parried by the impossibly hard horn on the pokemon's head, harmlessly sliding off with barely a scratch.

They hit the ground hard, the Tyranid beneath the Nidoking, flat on it's back now, all flailing limbs and terrible bony tail thudding against the back of the pokemon- causing him to roar in pain at the blows.

The Nidoking continued it's work, though, hitting the Tyrant in the chest, over and over, blows that would kill a man in an instant, blows that were making that carapace buckle and crack. Its tail lashed around, warding off further blows from the scythes, wrapping around one arm and simply ripping it off, eliciting a shriek from the Tyrant.
    >> Captain AdMech guy 03/30/10(Tue)03:42 No.8871551
    >>8871536
The Tyrant retaliated, slamming its own tail into the pokemon and launching it aside, quickly righting itself despite the way ichor oozed from its chest and the gaping hole where its blade-arm used to be. With a shriek, the xeno brought one of the cannons to bear, launching bioplasma at the pokemon-

Who leapt into the ground, parting the earth like water.

The Tyranid knew what was coming, and tried to avoid the pokemon's retaliation, moving swiftly as its damaged carapace would allow it, lumbering erratically as it could conceptualize. It didn't matter. Nidoking resurfaced some distance away, and charged on all fours, head low, lethal horn aiming right for the heart- or whatever passed for it- of the terrible monster.

The Tyranid tried to dodge- stepping aside at nearly the last moment, but Nidoking wrenched himself to the side, slamming itself in and up into the xeno, crushing its chest open with it's bulky head, spearing the thing's head on it's horn.

Nidoking withdrew after the thing stopped twitching, and roared, daring more to step upon his territory.

    Part 1/?

“It is vitally important that we get the route to Vermillion City open. We need supplies, and Cinnabar Island is a place to get them at. Problem is we need an open sea port, necessitating the attack to Vermillion, however, while we are out there, we are going to place a scientific and colonial project deep inside the Seafoam Islands, to see if we can’t get a batch of us living somewhere outside of the this plateau.” Lance motioned at graphic behind him, posted on the wall. “Now the attack will go as follows: Lt. Surge will lead the attack on Vermillion, once there, as many vessels, large preferably, will be seized and the scientific equipment will be placed onto the boats for transfer to the Seafoam chain. After the boats are seized the convoy will proceed south-east until reaching the Seafoam Islands, at that point all relevant civilians and military security officers will be offloaded under the authority of the Director of Silph Co. He hopes to open another pokéball production facility out there, and begin to train another group of trainers to combat this uprising.” Lance glanced over the room, noting the quiet faces of everyone around him.
“Once this is complete, the strike force, once again under Lt. Surge, will move out and head towards Cinnabar Island. Blaine has volunteered to lead the supply mission at Cinnabar, and the scientists at the fossil research facility will be gathering up their technology stationed there. With this we hope to be able to revive the most powerful of our dead Pokémon. Once the run at Cinnabar is complete and all supplies are loaded onto the convoy, it is to head back and return to Vermillion. Partway through, you all will be ordered to release your Spearows, who will return to the plateau, signaling us to begin our assault back to Vermillion. When you and the convoy arrives, we will be waiting there for you to take you back here.”

    Part 2/?

Lance straightened up as the graphic behind him faded away. “Any questions?” He paused for a moment. “If not, then good luck and god speed.” He turned away, and walked out of a side door as a buzz started up in the room.
One particular trainer, by the name of Blue looked around the room. He had been placed on this important mission after Bruno of the Elite Four had witnessed him training his Pokémon. They had been given to him by his grandfather as he, his mother, and his sister fled the town. His grandfather and a few of the assistants decided to stay back and to try to hide and release as many Pokémon as possible. When the Plateau’s forces retook Pallet, most of the town was destroyed and that lab was gone. Gramps was gone.
So Blue had begun training, to avenge his grandfather. To bring those… monsters responsible for the death of a innocent man, to justice. It was late in the day, and his Charmander and Squirtle were squaring off, as his Eevee and his Bulbasaur spared as well, when Blue heard the noise behind him. He turned around, and cursed. These ranges weren’t complete yet, but Red had assured him that no one would be down here until he and Brock came to finish the task tomorrow. But there stood one man who could stop his plans completely. Bruno of the Elite Four.

    Part 3/?

Bruno sat there looking at him for a moment. “You know, this is all highly illegal. Only the work crews are allowed down here yet, and you don’t seem like you are old enough to be accredited that many rare Pokémon. I could have you punished for breaking into a restricted zone, which is punishable by death or stockades, due to the fact that most restricted zones are in the Tyranids zone of influence, or I could just have those Pokémon stripped from you. Which one sounds better to you?”
Blue couldn’t believe what he had just heard. But he wasn’t going to lose to some pompous fool. He was the grandson of the famous Professor Oak! He ordered his Eevee to tackle Bruno to the ground. Maybe if he could knock him out… But Bruno was too fast. An Onix popped out and moved in front of Bruno to block his Eevee. But Onix was weak to water, so Blue then ordered his Squirtle to launch a Bubblebeam at the offending Pokémon. However, despite his type advantage possessed by Blue, Bruno’s Onix was too powerful. But Blue would never give up, he ordered all his Pokémon to concentrate their attacks. Seconds later, a laugh was heard from the other side of Onix.
“You have a powerful spirit, little Trainer. Stop this battle. You will not be punished for this.” He suited his words to actions by recalling the Onix. “You seem to have an inner strength that not many around here possess. If this were the old times, I would say that you could be a Gym Leader, maybe even a Champion one day.”
At this Blue sat down tiredly, and called his Pokémon back to him. “What happened the Champion, by the way?”

    Part 4

Bruno sighed and shifted how he was sitting. “He died in the initial attack on the Plateau. He saved many lives however.” He locked eyes with Blue. “But that is not important right now. We must talk about you. We have a mission coming up in a few months. A strike deep into Tyranid territory. We could use someone like you out there. But you need to be stronger. If you accept this mission, I’ll get you the paperwork necessary for those Pokémon, I’ll get you placed in the military, so you get paid to train, and I will personally train you. Does this sound acceptable?” Blue nodded. “Good. We start tomorrow.”
As Bruno had promised, Blue’s power had grown by leaps and bounds. His team was now evolved, his Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle to their final forms, his Eevee to an Umbreon, he had gained a Pigeot, and his team was finalized by an Alakazam. He had become one of the most powerful trainers on the whole Plateau, and was given an entire platoon by Gen. Surge to command. Blue was still puzzled by the fact that General Surge still insisted on being called a lieutenant, when he had been promoted, however, the actions of insane Americans were beyond Blue’s comprehension. As were Surge’s statements that something called ‘The South’ would deal easily with the Tyranids. Apparently battling was even more common there than here in Kanto. But that wasn’t Blue’s concern today. He was concerned with the fact that the mission was today. He was getting sidetracked, defocusing himself so he wouldn’t feel the fear that was threatening to overwhelm him.

Part 5. Will most likely end on part 7 or 8. Sorry for the tl;dr.

But Blue did not let the fear touch him. Despite the heavy losses inflicted on the column as it advanced to Vermillion City; Blue and his command stood firm. The boats were launched, and Blue began to hope for the best. They reached the Seafoam Islands without much trouble, Blue’s depleted platoon of twenty-one dropped to nineteen, but that was to be expected. Blue gained a few more Pokémon as trainers died off, but Blue suffered a heart-wrenching loss on the Seafoam Islands. His Umbreon and his newly acquired Arcanine both were killed at the hands of a ‘Hive Tyrant’ or so the Adeptan who was running the science part of the mission said. But Blue suffered silently. The mission came first. His revenge came first.
As they approached Cinnabar, Blue could see the vast number of Tyranids lining the shore, as the water team kept the seanids away. The line of Pokémon rearing up out of the water, or standing on the decks was impressive. As was Blue’s Gyarados whose head reached above Blue who was standing on the deck. They were waiting for the order to fire. A line of Hyper Beams and Solar Beams to cut down the number on the shore, to allow for the amphibious assault. The signal was for Surge to order his Raichu to Thunder the shore. As soon as Blue had finished that thought, a bright streak hit the shore, and Blue yelled, “Gyara! Hyper Beam!” The entire fleet vanished behind a veil of white, as lances of death and energy ran out to the shore. When the smoke had cleared, and Blue could see again, he saw that the shore was cleared for a long ways back. And so the assault started.
    >> Mithraw !uI4oigtzX2 03/30/10(Tue)14:40 No.8877964
    Part 6/7

Blue and his men moved forward quickly, for they were to seize and hold the research station on the island. But they paid for their orders. Many of his men and their Pokémon were killed. Blue saw his Pigeot get immolated by a bright flash of light from one of the huge Tyranids. He witnessed his Alakazam being driven to insanity by the collective ‘Static’ as Mewtwo put it of the Tyranids. But Blue knew this would happen to Kazam. The Slowpoke were breeding entirely too lose, so all psychic Pokémon had been recalled to the heart of the Plateau. However, a few managed to communicate their desire to fight for the people who were trying to save them. Such as Kazam. Without Slowpoke’s shield Kazam knew that he would be driven insane and kill himself, but he still volunteered. And now Blue was seeing his friend lose himself. Kazam began to fight more and more erratically. And not long after that, Kazam looked back and Blue, then vanished off towards the Tyranids, where moments later, a large blast of energy, psychic Blue guessed, erupted from. Kazam was now gone.
Blue continued through the town until he reached the facility. It looked intact, but Blue only had four more Pokémon, and his platoon had only eight more men. Less a platoon now, and more of a squad. One of the men approached Blue and handed him one more Pokémon, taken from one of the fallen men. It was a Rhydon. That left Blue with Squirt, Char, Sauruman, Machamp, and this new Rhydon, and eight men. To hold the facility.
But he did. Hours later, the main force broke through and relieved Blue of his duty. However, it appeared that Surge had died in the assault, him and his Raichu took the Pokémon Center back, but a large Tyranid force moved towards it, and so Surge and his Pokémon moved off to protect the Center. But only the Raichu made it back. So Blaine wanted to talk with Blue.
    >> Mithraw !uI4oigtzX2 03/30/10(Tue)14:41 No.8877978
    Part 7/7

Blue wearily trudged through the streets, and made it to Blaine. “Blue. You are now promoted to Major. You are now the second in command of this entire operation. If I don’t make it back, you are the leader.” Blue looked at that old man, shocked. “Bruno spoke of you. I have to go and see if the mansion holds our salvation like I think it might. But don’t wait up. In eight hours, shove off like the plan says.” With that, Blaine left the room.
Blue was shocked. He was now the leader, and what did Blaine think lay in the mansion, that old house near the Research Station. However, he knew that no answers would be coming, and now he had a job to do. He began to organize the Pokémon teams, and order the trainers about. It was odd, thought Blue. I’m barely over eleven and a half. This journey took nearly nine months so far to make, due to the Tyranids slowing us down, but I’m commanding boys my age or barely older. There are hardly any old men left… How can we keep this up? Ten year olds forced to fight. But he couldn’t think about that right now. He had to fight, for revenge, to survive, and for his sanity. He could not keep brooding on the last few hours.
As the appointed time came, Blue ordered his men to fall back to the boats. The science team reported a green, they had all of the equipment they needed, but Blue wanted to wait. For Blaine, but after a few more minutes, more and more Tyranids began to show up, and they had to leave. So Blue ordered them to head back to Vermillion, and for them to release their Spearows to signal the Plateau to send out its forces. It would take months for the Plateau team to arrive in Vermillion, but it would take a week or more for these aging sailboats to return to Vermillion, especially since they couldn’t sail at night, for fear of hitting a Tyranid. But Blue knew that they would make it back. He wasn’t finished with his revenge yet.
They just had to hold in Vermillion until help arrived.

Part 1/2 Shorter one this time. I'm most likely going to write more about Blue.

Tzeentch was kind. Too kind. His ship had been torn from the Warp, and had crashed onto this pathetic backworld. The great Knowledge-Engines had no record of this planet, or of its life forms, and what is worse, is that the Warp appeared to have no discernable effect on this planet. At first, it was disorienting, having to psyker powers to call upon, but once he had started wandering this blessed planet, he noticed the Tyranid infestation that covered the planet. It seemed to him that he would die upon this backworld, unnoticed by the Gods. Maychance this was a punishment from the False Emperor, somehow stripping this world of the Warp.
As he resigned himself to his fate of death against the Tyranids, a creature emerged from the bushes, mumbling unwords that hurt the ears to hear, not-sounds that tickled the mind like a thousand barbs, the joyous chants of Chaos. The little yellow and brown thing began chanting even louder, the droning in his skull increasing to the point of unbearably painful rapture. Then the Tyranids began twitching and dying on the ground. The creature turned and looked back at him, just as a light surrounded it, and a new yellow thing emerged where it had been. It took only a moment for the follower of Tzeentch to figure out what had happened the Great Plotter had sown his seeds here; then removed it from the Warp to shield it from the eyes of all of those who would destroy it. This was the crowning jewel of a grand plan, and he would be blessed enough to witness it. It was wonderful.

    Part 2/2

He and the creature, that seemed to mutter Hypno more often than not, quickly bonded, and as he and it traversed the lands, he noticed that the thing grew more and more blessed by Chaos. It was truly too sad that he was the last of the Thousand Sons left on this most joyous planet. But it was only him who was chosen to understand the glories of this planet. As they travelled, he found many others of these creatures and bound them to himself, using the rites of Tzeentch and something these fools on this planet called a Pokéball. He did not care how it worked, merely that it did. And soon, he had a team of the creatures that would do his bidding. They were all wonderfully blessed by the Chaos God, Tzeentch, the Bringer of Change. This whole planet was one great shrine to Him.
He smiled and knew that soon he would have this planet brought to the worship of Tzeentch.

Whoops, forgot my name. Sorry about that.

    Current plans for the Timeskip-
-Gen II is available for use due to experimentation from the Adeptus Biologis, sans Legendaries. That means no Jirachi, no Legendary Dogs, no Celebi, and Ho-oh and Lugia are more akin to Evangelions than Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno.
-The GSC starters are mostly used for work. The Chikorita line is, by in large, used to keep hydroponic vats and what few surface farms exist running at maximum efficiency. The Cyndaquil line largely work at forging, and the Totodile line are used for a mixture of hunting, fishing, and aquatic guard duty.
-Speaking of the Legendary Birds, no one has captured them. They're part of Mewtwo's group of independent but allied Legendaries. Mew is theorized to be involved somehow, but no one has seen her.
-The primary meeting place in the Indigo Plateau is a large, mostly open room roughly the size of a football stadium with parkland, a few Berry orchards, and a skylight guarded by a mixture of Rock Pokemon, flying patrols, and battle servitors. If worst comes to worst, it has a five-foot-thick automated shutter.
-The Steel and Dark types have been discovered by the Adeptus Biologis and Adeptus Mechanicus working in concert, provided considerable assistance by Wilhelm and Haunter. Roughly three years after Red received his Rattata and met Brock, a Mechanicus cruiser flew into orbit, wiping several Tyranid hives and providing a greater base of technology. This provided a short respite in which to force back the Tyranids, providing access to Saffron City and the basements of Silph Co. The ruins of Saffron have been heavily fortified, and it currently serves as the base of operations for the Adeptus Mechanicus.
-Attacks from a Dark Pokemon to a Daemon or Warp-corrupted Pokemon usually manifest as blackening and shattering, something akin to burning glass.

    Before the timeskip-
-Team Rocket has announced a cessation of hostilities until the end of the invasion, whenever that happens. Giovanni is considered an auxiliary to the Elite Four, holding roughly the same status while not officially being part of the group. Jessie and James exist, and Meowth is one of the (very) few Pokemon to Human translators. By in large, his services consist of debriefing after missions to ensure maximum intelligence.
-BONE is being reverse-engineered for use on certain compatible Pokemon, with the hope of creating additional translators.
-Excavation continues under the Indigo Plateau, and will likely continue to do so for quite a while. Various refineries and forges are under construction. Hydroponic vats are being filled and stocks are being evaluated-things are still in a state of blind panic, though sight is beginning to clear. Right now, anyone with enough presence of mind and will to train Pokemon can provide a fine start for themselves.

    So-what next?

Meowth sighs and rubs his temples, wishing he had a pair of sunglasses to take off. That'd be cool-of course, the tiny set of fatigues were hard enough to get, and that'd be his only payment until he proved himself, and Surge was annoyed he'd requisitioned that much, despite the fact that the Vermilion City Gym Leader had never gotten any of his pokemon to wear it willingly.

    "So, lemme get this straight."

Across the table from him is a Rhydon, squatting easily with the way it's built. Meanwhile, he, Meowth, has to sit on top of a stack of phone books on top of a folding chair just to look up at the thing! Life just isn't fair sometimes.

Looks good so far, actually. Oddly enough, the Pokemon genetic structure is probably one of the few that would actively resist a Tyranid attempt to co-opt it entirely, as it's literally an attempt to convert a world in and of itself. Pokemon are literally xenos- the genetic structure is different from though compatible in many ways to Terran standards, and all species of the type are not at all native to the planet, though they certainly are friendly.

In fact, odds are the average Pokemon sees a swarm like this as a kind of competition...

"You, an' your trainer, were scouting th' lower tunnels. Diggin', technically. Scratch scratch scratch, drill drill drill, then BOOM. Wall falls in, big ol' empty pocket-fulla fossils."

The Rhydon nods, and begins to gesture with its paws, rumbling all the time. "Don, don don Rhydon, rhyd don on DON!"

Jessie and James can't understand it. Hell, most of the humans in this WORLD can't understand it. But to Meowth, it's as simple as they come-little hints in inflection, gestures, the timing of the different syllables-there's a WEALTH of information there, and most humans can't see it! Unbelievable!

From what he can tell, the Rhydon is telling the truth-but he can also tell a little about the dampness of the rock, the fact that the rock wasn't as sturdy as it might have been.

"So, lemme get this straight. Your Trainer wants you to keep diggin', but you don't wanna, right?"

    "Don don Rhydon."

And yep, here it is. "It wasn't safe." Meowth allows himself a little smile of satisfaction. That's what he needed right there-now all he needs to do is explain things to the big guy.

"Yeah, I get that. Thing is, you can't just stop diggin'-your trainer's gonna want a reason. Say...ya take your claws or summin', an' show him what the rock is like around where you guys are."

The Rhydon ponders this for a moment, looks at his paw, and moves to scratch at the table.

    Meowth freaks a little.

"Nawnawnawnawnaw! Nonna that! They need this table intact, ya know? Lissen, I'll get ya...a...what're those things called, they're like pens but thick?"

James provides the answer, helpful big lug that he is. "A marker, Meowth?"

    "Yeah, thassit. You gotta marker?"

James does, indeed, have a marker-and Meowth has a small stack of printer paper for notes. He pushes both over to the Rhydon, and the Pokemon examines it for a moment, before beginning, crudely, to draw.

About a minute later, there's a little cartoon of the hollow, but with a big river floating above it, a bunch of weak rock highlighted as cracks, and a very satisfied-looking Rhydon.

"See? Now whazzat so hard, big guy? Oh, dis is a good find. The League'll pay your boss good fer this! Now, remember what I told ya, an' we shouldn' have much more trouble like this, righ'?"

About five minutes later there's a shriek of consternation as the Rhydon presumably demonstrates its newfound drawing ability on an innocent concrete wall. Meowth doesn't care-he, Jessie, and James are speaking to Brock about reinforcing the stone around the fossil deposit, tapping the underground river for use in their hydroponics, and finding out if there's any caverns under the weak rocks.

Meowth is feeling better than he has in years. He's got a new suit, he's got a great new job, the cops aren't chasing him, and he's doing something important.

Grinding their way across the barren soil and splintered shards of what once was the Viridian Forest, the Hive Tyrant spewed a stream of acidic poisons from it's back across the scouting party of Trainers- only to have a massive glob of stench-ridden goo absorb the impact and -grow-.

Irritated, the massive Tyranid began to order it's Carnifex escort forward to crush the offending meat to paste...when a white blur settled almost lovingly against it's fanged cheek and KISSED it.

A strange sense of giddyness enveloped it, and it's commands took on a tone that left the Carnifex turning around in a daze...and proceeding to hose the Tyrant down with a cloud of bio-plasma. Chaos reigned as Genestealers randomly shredded each other, the Carnifex's legs, and the now badly burnt Tyrant.

Koga looked back with approval. Confusion was ever the ally of a wise ninja, and the Togetic returned to the scouting party with a cheerful cry and a cloud of sparkling dust. Muk sucked the glittering debris into it's bloated flesh and burbled contentedly- a venom cannon shot was a 7-course meal to the toxic thing, and a little shed skin was an afterdinner mint.

    This time, they would escape.

I also intend for Blue to be my main exposition, if no one minds, but the Chaos Marine is fair game. He possess a few Warp-corrupted pokemon, but according to him, he is alone on this planet, so he shouldn't be too much trouble.

The story with Blue happens before the Timeskip. Assuming that Blue's estimate will hold true, he will arrive back at the Plateau when he is 12. Which is 4 years before the timeskip. I mostly wanted to address 2 things that irked me.
    1) Pokemon and their trainers had no ON-SCREEN deaths.
    2) The size of this place. Its not a few hours walk according to the anime, and that games don't say one way or the next. And with 'Nids harrassing them it could easily take months to go from the Plateau, (which is what I call both the place and the government,) and Vermillion.

He's right. Remember, thus far we've only seen Pokemon indigenous to an area of the world roughly correlating to Japan. Europe, Africa, the Middle-East, and the Americas would likely have wildly different "species" of Pokemon, and would be dealing with the threat of Tyrannid invasion in their own ways. What communications there were prior to the invasion were likely shut down completely, at least initially, and after the Imperium arrived I have no doubt that the defense of this world would likely become much more coordinated.

So noted. Beginning to writefag about Blue some more. I love him now.

Hm...Posing this as a general question, but would an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor have any good place in this? I've got an idea for a short bit of writefaggotry, but revolves around this idea. The way I see it, he and his retinue could have been traveling with the Biologis ship.

I'm going to be doing a bit with Giovanni. I went to see How to Train your Dragon and it got my creative juices flowing.

Mind you, there won't be much in the way of dragon taming. But hey.
    ---
One of the Gymnasiums reopened is obviously designed for a single purpose-lots and lots of training, in as many areas as possible. There's arenas for every biome there is-even if the "forest" one hasn't been planted yet, half the "island" arenas need their water refilled, the "volcano" ones need their filaments replaced, and the plains are just expanses of dead grass. But whatever the others may have wrong, the Wasteland, Desert and Cave arenas are fine. Already, Youngsters, Lasses and Bug Catchers with the unsteady walk of someone unused to the weight of a backpack and lasgun are choosing arenas and declaring battle. Mankeys, Rattatas, Pidgey, Spearow, Nidoran, Caterpie, Weedle and the odd Pikachu are duking it out, and one clever Bug Catcher with a Kakuna he's obviously raised from a Weedle is showing some serious promise at trapmastery.

All of this, Mewtwo watches, hands folded behind his back, from a recessed office near the ceiling obviously designed for the purpose. The Lavender Towners have their own issues to discuss; he is, for the now, unneeded.

A presence makes itself known, one with which he is familiar. Among the minds of the children, eagerness tinged with trepidation and a little worry, comes a constant cycle of planning, judgment, and self-interest.

Mewtwo knows that mind. It's one of his earliest memories.

    -What do you want, Giovanni?-

Question is this pre- or post- timeskip. As in the first draft of the story I am scribing now I have a Giovanni cameo, and am just wondering.

    >>8888140
As long as it fits the mood, maybe. I would be loathe to start adding in new Warhammer characters, but honestly that is just my opinion, but I did also add a new man in. The Chaos Marine, who again, I am not going to write on.

There was a long moment of silence as Inquisitor Varen was handed a Pokeball. The silence continued as he turned the round object in his hand, pondering it. The Techpriest before him stood solid, unphased by the occasional incredulous glance. "So tell me, Cornelius, what exactly is it that I am holding?"

The Techpriest's vox bead hissed for a moment before he spoke. "It is a device originally designed to contain and preserve life forms in an indefinite stasis. The internal circuitry is incredibly complex. A few of my colleagues have managed to integrate the circuitry into their own mechanisms. Off the record, the only reason for their success is a mix of luck and the Omnissiah's good graces."

Varen sighed and rubbed at his temple with a gloved hand. By now, he should be used to these sorts of drawn out explanations from Cornelius. Ten years, Terra Standard, and the Techpriest still managed to confound and infuriate him from time to time. "Alright it is a ca-"

Cornelius raised his left hand, bionic index finger raising to emphasize his interruption. "The local population of this planet call them 'Pokeballs.'"

-=Most of what I am writing now would be set right as they land with the Hive Fleet on the way.=-

Waiting a moment to ensure that he was clear to speak, Varen held the object up. "A Pokeball, eh? So these are what the locals use to control their xenoforms, then." As he turned the object, his thumb passed over the small offset disc on the apparent front of the object. It's sudden increase in size caused him to start, nearly dropping it again.

"We are unsure, but it is a large part of the bonding between these 'Pokemon' and the ones known as 'Trainers.' Initial research and information pulled from local leaders shows that significant resistance from the Pokemon within the containment allows them to break free. Whether this is a flaw in design or a failsafe, I am unsure."

Varen turned and walked to the small table in the room. Scattered across it were piles of documents along with the local xenotechnology: Devices appearing like bastardized auspecis, some as bottles of fluid, yet more as small machines bearing markings of HM and TM. It was a lot to absorb in the short period of time that was allowed.

Depends. Give me a short summary of the concept and I'll consider it.

I could definitely see him coming on the second ship shortly before the timeskip, however.

Also, fuck, we have DEFINITELY hit autosage. I'm going to make this post, then make a new thread, and I'd suggest we archive this one last time.

Giovanni doesn't reply, at first. He just joins the Pokemon he commissioned to look down at the near-legions of young Trainers fighting some of their first battles.

Mewtwo isn't having any of that.

In roughly half a second, Giovanni is slammed up against a wall, an overwhelming force pressing him against the unyielding concrete. He feels something groan under the stress, and struggles to breathe.

    Mewtwo hasn't lifted a finger.

-I asked, Giovanni, why are you HERE.-

One sharp, piercing eye, a purple pale enough to pass for grey, turns to look at him.

    Giovanni doesn't reply.

-You MUST be here for a reason. You never do ANYTHING without a reason. Except, it seems, create me.-

The most powerful Pokemon on the planet turns, and looks at the man who funded its creation.

-You ordered the digs. You ordered the analysis. Every step of my creation, you had a hand in.-

The force pressing him against the wall doubles. Something cracks-bone or concrete.

-And for what reason? So you could seal me in limiter armor and throw me at trainers you could crush with ease? So you could say you did?- Mewtwo's eyes nearly flash, his paws unconsciously folding and unfolding. -You ordered the creation of a pokemon more powerful than any other in existence-just so you could use him to crush minor trainers!?-

Mewtwo turns, and the pressure lets up. Giovanni falls to the floor and gasps, if only thrice, before slowly regaining his feet.

-No, Giovanni, you had an ulterior motive. I don't know what it was, or how you developed it, but rest assured-the only reason I haven't crushed your head like a grape is because I want to know what it is, and you haven't told me.-

Mewtwo sighs, eyes closing for a moment, and opens them again, gaze hard once more.

-Get out. I don't want to see you again unless you're going to discuss tactics-or tell me why I was created.-

The Rocket boss turns, and begins to walk away, the churning plans starting up once more.

His shields drop, if only for a second.

Mewtwo sees an opportunity and takes it.

In a split second, imagery bombards him-decades of secrets, skull-marks, complex machines, banks of immensely complex data and tubes of things that might, eventually become Pokemon.

The last image is of a two-headed, majestic bird, embossed onto the bottom of a cylinder.

Both black out, and when they awake, the other is nowhere to be seen.

From the corner of the room, a tall, broad shouldered man rose from his seat. His uniform was black fatigues under red carapace armor, shoulders adorned with the silver Inquisitorial -][-. His backpack was half energy pack and half supply pack, the energy pack connecting to the Hellgun slung lightly on his shoulder. More than anything else, the various scars on his face and hands betrayed him as a life long soldier.

He cleared his throat briefly as he approached, walking toward the table. "Is there anything that we can do to get back off world before the proverbial shit hits the fan?"
