Pretty poorly, I'm afraid. The idiots out doing the feildwork havn't brought much back for me to examine, so I'm left running diagnostics on the servitors for the thousandth time.

Terribly. Our tech adept can't even spell 'fieldwork' and disregards all our reports as irrelevant and nonsensical. I knew we shouldn't have blown up the Mechanicus facility back on Tashen's World. We didn't tell her, but I guess she found out somehow...

Oh, well, I'm sorry if my language-cogitator's on the fritz. I WAS scheduled to have it looked at by a senior Techpriest, but he and the rest of his facility suffered a sudden outbreak of 'Horrible, exploding death'. Perhaps if the one responsible for such a crime was to turn himself in, the vexation of my Machine Spirits might relent in the knowledge justice was done, and we could start getting somewhere.

Alright. Let me give you a shot of painkillers.

Now, lie back. You'll be conscious throughout, so try not to squirm. This operation will be very delicate, since it necessitates poking around in your brain to wire the bionics up. I reccomend reciting the thirty-first prayer of Communion, giving praise to the Omnissiah for drawing closer to his perfection.

not at all lady inquisitor. my doubts as to the adepts guilt in this case was assuaged by you earlier.

and with all due respect lady inquisitor, as for the matter of the data i found, it was not on the planets, data hub but on the cruisers. that the cruiser had no access to the planet is irrellivant, as the information was transferred beforehand.

also i never specified that the cutter was one of the cruisers.

the files were found in operational planning.

perhaps this is all a part of a larger plan by Inquisitor Lang himself?

stage his own death to get close enough to strike at the heretical cell!

Not once. Also, chassis be damned. I'm not that high up in the ranks. Beyond the limbs and mechandrites, most of me's still flesh.

As for painkillers, sure. There. Now this'll be much easier, since I just have to unscrew *this*, pull *that*, cut away the flesh...one firm tug and we're disconnected!

You'll probably want to get a bandage for the hole.

    Now, Mithras, are we ready?

We are investigating the murder of Inquisitor Lang.
He had evidence pertaining to a heretic cult in this area, and had sent a message to Inquisitor Miles to meet him in this area, but was found dead in his crashed transport.
His personal Inditor, Shih-na, was not killed in the crash and had been seen purchasing a transport off-world by that unconscious man over there.
Also, a severed hand has been recovered from the site that belongs neither to Shih-na nor Lang.
...Then my acolytes destroyed the entire area.

If I may speak freely, ma'am, that problem only has three possible solutions.

First one is to train your men, instil the love for discipline and teach them what are the proper proceedings when conducting an investigation. Second is to change your team for one that fits the above description and, finally, be there with them.

You'll agree with me on the fact that the last one is incredibly complicated and time consuming. Therefore, one has to default for either option one or option two.

This is what I think happened, Miles.
Inquisitor Lang came to the planet with Shih-na to corner the cult here. He's allways been headstrong that way.

On the way down, a cultist assassin revealed himself and assassinated Lang when he was distracted piloting the ship.

After that, the assassin used the pod on the ship to eject to the surface, leaving it around here somewhere, bought a ship and left the planet.

    Simple, and perfect.

I think that at this point we all need to take a step the fuck back.

We know who we're looking for. They're on a gun cutter, and we know when they took off from the planet, so we should be able to figure out how far they might have gotten.

Here is my proposed list of shit to get done:
    1. Scan as much of the surrounding space as we can for the gun cutter. As I said, we should have a good estimate as to how far it could have gone.
    2. Check the moon(s), if it is possible for the subject to have gotten that far.
    3. Keep in contact with any ships in the area, specifically those who might have taken on the subject's gun cutter.
    4. Question the shopkeeper when he wakes up, and go through any records he may have kept.

Well, there first point isn't about it leaving the system, but as far as I can tell it's either on the one of the moons (how many are there?), some how got on one of our ships, or is still very near by the planet.

As for checking the records and questioning the merchant... mostly about finding a serial number or some such that we could scan for or inform port authorities of. It'll be much easier to keep track of the cutter that way.

We captured her...but...I can't help feeling we have missed something.

She came on-board with Lang before they left as they had planned...On the way to the planet, a second accomplice, a cultist assassin-who was the piolot, one Calisto Yew-revealed herself and killed Inquisitor Lang.
Once they made planetfall (Which was made more difficult by the fact that Yew's left hand was severed during the combat with Inquisitor Lang). After making a crash-landing, they left the body and purchased a ship from a nerby black-market dealer.
They were to wait on Tashen's Moon for a larger ship to pick them up, but that didn't go to plan for them.

And your evidence, Miles. Care to share what was so important to Lang?
It may fill in some gaps.

And it can make them react violently as well. In any case, I've got my armor on because it's harder to puncture than a void suit, and if the subject or any automated defenses fire at my Inquisitor I'm going to be in front of them.

So we've got Shih-na, but not this Calisto character? Can we get our subject to talk?

Of course. It all makes sense now.

It's.... a list of Imperial Commanders, Generals, and Admirals stationed in this sector. Three quarters of the list has this symbol next to each name.

I fear that the taint of heresy and corruption is here in this very sector.

So is this list our new bingo book? Or are they in need of our protection? It's most likely a list of members, but it could be a list of people to be corrupted or killed, as it would explain the people going missing. Or those disappearances may have been a result of the efforts of the dearly departed Lang.

First and foremost, is anyone on our ship in it?
