    219 KB Paranoia Problems Anonymous 03/20/10(Sat)11:08 No.8681561
Hey, I got forced into playing a Paranoia game, but the problem is I hate Paranoia. The GM will run the game I want to play, but only if I play this first. He said he would let me choose some of my stuff, but mostly random.

Basically, how do I make the most min maxed character who will break the game and any tips to break the game while we are playing it? (Like asking questions that make the GM curse as now he must work harder).

I would try Commie, but then everyone would expect me to start shouting propaganda until I kill the party and then it looks like I am trying to ruin the game on purpose.

    Any help /tg/?

If you've got a good (or even bad) GM, you won't be able to.

Minmaxing in Paranoia mainly consists of lying through your teeth and confusing the DM with fast-thinking rather than mechanical bonuses - if you bring up the fact that you've read the rulebook it's grounds for execution. The GM can and should change the rules arbitrarily as he sees fit.

    >until I kill the party and then it looks like I am trying to ruin the game on purpose.
If you're NOT trying to kill the party you're doing something horribly wrong in the first place.

well, Paranoia is really fun to GM, and it goes well when you've been GM for a while and start to hate your players. So you play Paranoia, kill them a bunch, and feel much better about it. If you do it well, the players might enjoy it too, but thats not really the point. It allows you to handle the more serious stuffs. Thats how I see it anyways.

This looks like a really clever copy-pasta from that other bawfag who wanted to troll his 3.5 campaign. If this is, fuck you troll.

Otherwise, how do you fucks get "forced" into playing these games? And even if you got forced, what's the point of ruining everyone else's fun? Either man up and just don't play/tell everyone your problem, or fucking play the game and stop being such a whining faggot. Your group deserves a better player than you.

To think, some people on /tg/ don't even have a group to play with. You dick.

It is impossible to min/max in Paranoia. Doing so show evidence of understanding the rules and that in turn gets you killed. Throwing a monkey wrench in the plot gets you killed. ECT. The player is powerless that is part of the games core design

You could always... ADD sex. Just find some alone time with your fellow troubleshooter.

One could make the same argument about most game systems - lots of people take potions in D&D for example, people die, and.. well, I won't say everything is evil but that's a subjective viewpoint.

Have them go retrieve something from another sector. Like a prototype for R&D. Make it interesting along the way, things like have them be required to fill out a Blue form to gain access to the trains. Have Friend Computer ignore this issue.

Also, lots of Bouncing Bubbly Beverage. its good for the happiness. Have Friend Computer make sure there are enough Happiness Officers. Happiness is Mandatory!

That's a nice easy one. The troubleshooters can just bunk off and try not to get killed, then wait for the debriefing:

"Yeah, we delivered the weapon to the labs. It was so stealthy it even hid our delivery!"

"What do you mean, you don't see it in stores? Of course not, are you doubting Friend Computer's ability to make a wholly stealthed secret project? Are you some kind of mutant commie traitor debriefing officer?!"

Most of the kills in paranoia are beyond imaginative. I've got someone about to try reprogramming a scrubot swarm to trundle about spraying alcoholic cleaning products over the lab they're in - the guy's a pyrokinetic.

How about using your imagination and having fun trying to inventively kill your teammates, instead of kneejerking away from a non-standard game?

Play it, try and have fun. Don't just shit on it. and on the bright side, if you don't like it, you can always leave the group and go start your own. Or you can stop whining, enjoy the game you play, and eventually play the game you want.

    COPYPASTA BACKGROUND

Alpha Complex is an enclosed, underground city, isolated from the devastation of the outside world, and tyrannically ruled by a dysfunctional and delusional Computer. The Computer isn't thoroughly aware of the world outside of Alpha Complex, and regards it with fear and suspicion, while it governs the Complex itself with edicts sourced from it's vast data store of old, often confused, and commonly contradictory data files. The Computer attempts to defend Alpha Complex from it's percieved enemies - Communists, Mutants, and Traitors.

The players take on the roles of members of a team Troubleshooters - Newly-promoted citizens of Alpha Complex, whose role is to seek out trouble, and shoot it. This includes seeking out Enemies of the Computer, and terminating or capturing them, for the glory of Alpha Complex, and Friend Computer!

The one small flaw in this brilliant plan? Every citizen of Alpha Complex is either a Communist, a Mutant, or a Traitor, in one fashion or another. Every player has a mutant power, and belongs to a traiterous secret society. Add in confused, misleading, or completely incorrect assignments, badly labeled and often dangerously experimental equipment, and many players with often competing goals, and it becomes obvious why Troubleshooter missions are so often fatal.

Essentially - You will be given a mission, which may not even be possible, you will be given equipment, which may kill you just as certainly as your opponents, you will be part of a team of commie mutant traitors, who will most certainly be trying to kill you first, you will be given additional personal goals, which may be mutually exclusive with your mission or leave you directly competing against your teammates, and you have to deal with all of this in a dystopian nightmare city, goverened by an eccentric, senile, confused Computer, who holds ultimate authority over the entire complex, and will order your termination on a whim.

I've had to kill party members before. One filled out a form with "I am a communist who hates the computer" in what he /thought/ was unintelligible handwriting. Another one looked at the secret info on another players character sheet. But I guess those were the player suicides anyway.

    I'll consider it.

I need time to not be pissed off now. I've been banging my head against a wall over this.

But I have to consider how I'm already in three PnP games, and this game happens early morning for me. At least that is when they held the first session(it started an hour late.. and by the time it did I had to go to fucking bed). I don't know if my sleep schedule will allow me to do this.

If I did.. I'd also be constantly flip flopping between night time day time sleep schedule so I can make all my games.

    How to win at Paranoia:
    Get a laptop.
    Set it to 4chan.
Lol heartily at things only you can see.
Eat chips or any other crunchy food loudly at the table. Do not share with anyone else.
Give halfarsed commands to your character after completely ignoring all plot development.

If questioned or confronted on this behaviour, point out that Paranoia isn't meant to be played seriously, and you're going to chill the fuck out with some chips and 4chan, and not get deeply involved with it.
