    99 KB Fate/Stay Quest? FSN !mF.IqWIAfs 03/15/10(Mon)14:40 No.8598494
    The training of a mage is a precarious, and indeed mind numbing process. The actual effort, physical and mental training involved can be grueling on the average person. To say that everyone can do magic, or that only a few people can would be too bold a claim for even the most worldly of man to say with confidence. However, like anything, magic requires talent. And some people are simply more talented with others. Self-taught mages exist and can even be threatening in their own right, but it is the years of mastery and techniques passed down from bloodline to bloodline that gives a mage his TRUE strength.

    As such, no matter how much magical talent a person may be born with, he will simply be a full-bottle with no pressure or release. No ability to channel or use it.

    Whether or not you are a self taught mage or belong to one of these prestigious families is all up to you. But now, the haze of sleep begins to dissipate. The blackness that once clouded your vision and mind are gone now. Today is the beginning of the Holy Grail war. The last moment for mages around the world to summon forth a servant and to participate in this grand tournament. You're not sure why or how you're aware of this. Maybe greater forces are interested in you? Or maybe you mentally prepared yourself to be reminded on this particular day?

    The only question that remains is: who are you exactly?

    Actually, the Throne of Heroes is separate from space and time. You need a focus that relates to a servant to summon one, which is why they normally are only form the past.

    Nope, you've got it right. F/SN is pretty rife with greek stuff actually. Over half of the servants are from that line of mythology. You don't see so many Nordic ones I guess as most of their heroes are gods, and those a Verboten as far as the Grail is concerned.
    Animals are still allowed however, so Fenris and Sleipnir would probably be summonable, but good fucking luck finding catalysts for them.

    Homunculus.

    the Einzberns found out that the homunculi they had used up to now had been too frail. That's why the path to Akasha had always kept breaking before they could follow. So the last homunculus was created and raised with the goal of making him extremely reislient, both physically, mentally, and magically.

    "The Grail War is a competition between many masters for the sake of gaining the legendary Holy Grail. The only way to win it is to summon a servant and have him and his master compete. This servant is a legendary figure from the past who is summoned depending on many factors, the focus is key for one. But many other things such as the Master, the intention behind the summoning and the specific incantations used can affect the servants outcome."

    20 minuets and a bus-ride later you're standing in the middle of an entire palace full of various nick-nacks and puzzles with dinosaurs on them.

    A man notices your hulking, curious form and walks over to you with a friendly smile.

    "Excuse me good sir!" he says "can I help you with something?"

    Also, I have thought up a spell for our aspiring Master. It is a powerful spell, almost on the Noble Phantasm level, so its costly to use it.

    The spell's name is BEARCAUST, it turns everyone around the caster into bears that are at the same time mana bombs, so when slain they explode into raw mana, the bears serve us. We are immune to this damage, so will be our Servant.

    No. Older doesn't make something more powerful unless by older you mean "had more time to accumulate magic energy", which dinosaurs didn't do. Also True Magic is more powerful than sorcerry because in it's times, people couldn't just us a bomb to blow shit up. Now days every spell is engraved into the fabric of the reality and casting it costs as much energy as it would take to create and use said bomb. Also, Divine Words are pretty much what they called: divine language from the times gods walked the earth - they're magic in themselves.

    No. Gil is powerful because a) he has a crapton of NPs b) he comes from times where both humans were simpler, which in Nasuverse means more powerful by the logic that they originally were more focused on their original goal (killing power etc)

    Saber is powerful because she a) is a dragon reincarnation b) made a pact with the world

    ...where the fuck did you take that from ? Yes, the grail decides the class (unless you add an additional line to the summoning to summon your hero as a berserker). No, the catalyst influences who you summon - it can be a handpicked artefact for the hero you want. If you don't possess such, the grail picks the hero, but one that will somehow match you.

    You sit in your home and decide to try and make the mood appropriate.

    Unfortunately you don't really have much that fits into the old vampire myth. So you wind up having to go to an old drug store and go through their Halloween decorations for extra atmosphere.

    Finally sun sets and the moon rises in the sky... a full moon at that! The hour draws nearer... it's a good thing all your clocks are working. I mean. What retarded mage forgets to accurately tell time?

    Anyway. Between the plastic bats, the sheep's blood you got from the local butcher and the tiny rats you impaled on little wooden spikes, your current lodgings looks legitimately gothic enough that you should be able to summon him.

    Solemnly, the clock strikes 12... and you whisper your enchantments.

    Stop posting. You may be right about what class the Servant is summoned as. The amount of control the summoner has over that is negligible. But *which* servant you summon IS believed to be effected by what artifacts you have.

    Example, Tohsaka Tokiomi, who managed to summon Gil by using the skin of the snake who stole his potion of immortality.

    Gee, I wonder why Shirou, who had Avalon inside him, summoned King Arthur instead of Sir Bors or Ector?

    It appears in front of you. A figure dressed in dark clothing, first apparently wrapped in a shroud of the dead. Slowly it pulls back to reveal a finely dressed body underneath. Bejeweled ornaments, fantastical designs and patterns are sewn into the cloth.

    He looks at you with red eyes, demonized by the millions of people who have come to associate his name with the nightmares that people dream of. His air of calm, collected ambition is kept back from you however. Slowly he places a pair of dark colored spectacles over his eyes. There is no doubt the man before you is Drakule voevode.

    Sigfried is the german name of Sigurd or "Sigurðr" the same hero nonetheless.
    The origin of his legends aren't exactly known but the vast majority of his legends are norse legends in old norse, and many argue that this is also the origin of said legends.

    No. He was a mage. Even Rin said that a low level apprentice like him should be able to do it automatically and that something was obstructing the transfer due to the oddity of the Saber/Shirou bond (lolavalon).

    Well, mind you Tsukihime characters are utter monsters compared to the F/SN ones. Arc (rape), Shiki (raperape), Len (superior magical being) and Ciel (only thing missing is True Magic) all are broken tier beings in the Nasuverse. And Melty Blood is turning canon soon... oh god... Wallachia, Nrvnsqr (yeah he was in Tsuki as well), W. Len, half the fakes, Aoko, etc.

    Goddamn everyone has Reality Marbles, or even multiple Reality Marbles.

    Well I dunno, you were blatantly wrong about the catalysts, then compared it to Nasu WoG which is infamously flighty. Moreover, it was a simple fact that anyone with a cursory knowledge of the setting rather than just the plot of the games would know. Even a nub like me was aware that Gil is stronger than 30% Arc.

    I was just disputing your blatantly wrong claim that catalysts have no effect on what you summon. After all, that's the single most important reason, besides similarity of disposition, (the default sorting algorithm for which Servants get which Masters) that Rin summoned Archer.

    Shirou isn't a mage. He doesn't have an inherited magic circuit, he doesn't have any training. The thing that created his magic WAS Avalon.

    You know all the mentions of Shirou being her sheath and shit and how his magic is MAKING SWORDS? It all comes from Avalon's presence in him.

    Not exactly. Arc ? Why yes, she rapes almost everything ? Ciel ? Only defensive battle against normal Servants (and FYI, 5th war servants are far above normal). Shiki ? Not even defensive fight, also his eyes wouldn't probably work according to multiple accounts on nasu part.

    Nasu did state that he could bring normal Arcueid down but what is even more crazy is that he claimed that he posed a threat to a full powered one as well.
    Something along the lines of "It isn't that strange that Gilgamesh the king of heroes that the gods themselves could not kill would be able to pose a threat to Arcueid"
    I don't know how his reasoning went but there you have it, I believe it he said soemthing like that at least.

    But his Origin word is also "Sword," isn't it?

    It's true that Shirou was creating new magic circuits every time he tried to use magecraft, but wouldn't that indicate he's just a potential mage of very low ability, rather than a traditional one with an inherited Seal and family knowledge?

    Nasu said both things that he can kill them and that he can't. Its a matter of knowledge on his part, and later Shiki is pretty much in the know.

    Also while I dislike Ciel, that superior magic circuits, the ability to use divine scriptures, then the 7th Heaven, etc. make her formidable.

    Avalon didn't create his magic, it greatly influenced him and his love for swords. It might even be the reason he didn't explode every time he created a circuit instead of turning it on.

    Swords or something related to it was his element, everyone has one magus or not, swords just happened to be a rather odd one.
    His magic did not stem from Avalon at all, all Avalon did was save his life on multiple occasions were he would have normally died, hence the infamous "People die when they are killed" quote that he said when he pointed out that he had already broken that obvious rule several times, only that it wouldn't work again, as he said at one point.
    It was his catalyst for Saber and a life saver.
    His magic comes from his element and his way of life/ideal.
    And yes he isn't a proper magus at all, I believe it was in UBW, Archer stated at one point when he was talking about Rin and her role as a tutor, that Rin as a properly tought magus would never understand the magic of an self-tought magic user that uses his "nervous system" instead of ordinary magic circuits.
    His point was more or less that Shirou's magic was way different than ordinary magic even fundamental levels.

    So what magic spells did Shinji cast again?

    Spoiler: The answer is none. He cannot cast spells. The only one casting spells was Rider and he could only control Rider because his family was the one who MADE THE SERVANT/MASTER BOND AND COMMAND SPELLS.

    You automatically assume that I'm saying anyone is a mage as soon as they try to cast spells. I never said that. It takes a long time for you to even learn basic magic and strengthen yourself enough to be able cast AND SURVIVE CASTING anything. This is an inheritable trait once you get it going.

    jeez one would think that you'd actually know anything about f/sn before discussing it. you're really pathetic.

    Mind looking at the book he carries. He doesn't actually carry the command spells, the book does.

    Rider was definitely not happy being under Shinji. If he had carried the command spells she might've been able to break the contract. But he was holding a goddamn magic book for enslaving servants made by the people who created the command spells.

    And yes anyone can make a contract, but the contract can be broken. See: Caster.

    Kotomine with 0 Command Spells waltzes into Bazette's apartment with Gil at his back/hidden.

    Bazette welcomes Kotomine since he invited her in the first place.

    Gil defeats Lancer but does not kill him.

    Kotomine rips off Bazette's hand and leaves her dead.

    Kotomine now has 3 command spells.

    Kotomine uses one to force Lancer to work for him. Uses another one for that silly scouting mission, then the last one to force him to kill himself.

    Just throwing it out there. We are a Reinforcement magic specialist. This means we can boost the natural properties of things (including, of course, our bodies). Assuming that we can only boost Lancer's physical stats, and only by one rank, we can still do the following:

    Vlad (Vampiric)
    Strength: D -> C
    Endurance: C -> B
    Agility: A -> A+
    Magical Energy: A
    Luck: C
    Noble Phantasm: B

    Vlad (Dutiful King)
    Strength: C -> B
    Endurance: B -> A
    Agility: A+ -> A++
    Magical Energy: A+
    Luck: B
    Noble Phantasm: A

    Reinforced Dutiful King Lancer is RIDICULOUS.
    Compare with Saber (Rin). WE CAN TOTALLY WIN THIS.

    Saber
    STR A
    END B
    AGI B
    LCK A+
    MAN A
    N.P A+++
