Care to share your own D&D campaign settings, /tg/? I've decided to take the leap and make my own, and I want some inspiration.

    Failing that, fantasy scenery dump.

Let's assume I produce a gun,aim it at your head, and demand a decent post worth of setting description with the alternative being death.
I'm sure you can do it.

The campaign I intend to run will be set in a late medieval styled fantasy world (restricted to the Eurocentric areas initially), which exists under constant threat of invasion and interference from 'Beyonders', planar outsiders and extradimensional entities. The most powerful individuals of various nations have banded together against this menace, which threatens the very fabric of their world's reality. The organisation they form is basically charged with locating, investigating and eliminating threats from beyond reality/other planes. It is to this organisation which the players belong, having been selected like many others as a result of their initial potential in various areas.
tldr; basically my idea is to run a fantasy version of x-com.

    The shortest possible cliff-notes version?

A solar system with a gas giant and a terrestrial planet.

The earth-like planet is where everything starts, with frozen northern wastes, tropical equatorial jungles, numerous deserts, and strange ruins dotting the landscape. It has a single moon, Ravenforge.

The dwarves have a saying, "We don't go to Ravenforge anymore," though nobody knows what they mean. People can, however, see what appears to be oceans and forests on the bright blue jewel in the sky.

On one of the moons of the gas giant live the Illithids, communists who every 1,000 years swoop down and reset civilization a la the Reapers. Also orbiting this gas giant is Hell, home of the Nine Hells University.

Would you like to know more?

My campaign world is an enormous intergalactic zoo/laboratory, where a hyper intelligent AI collects life from all over the universe to study their forms and their technology (if they have any) and add to its stores of knowledge, in order to preserve the memories of this universe after its eventual dissolution.

The world itself consists of a core mechanical structure like a Death Star, surrounded by layers of metals and earth, covered over by a sterile ocean. All life exists on continents and islands held in the sky by the antigrav devices located in the world's core (which also regulate atmosphere, temperature, air pressure, etc for each landmass individually, to better suit life native to that mass).

The "planet" is absolutely massive, but due to world-wide gravity regulation technology, you're usually safe from being squished except on certain dangerous landmasses.

Humans living in the nation I've fleshed out best live in what might be considered a low-tech, high-magic republic, but all "magic" is simply verbal commands in ancient lost languages, telling various computer systems to do this or that.

Magical ability is therefore usually considered innate to one's bloodline, as security clearance to different systems was partially handled with biological markers. The strongest sorcerers are descendants of the command, security, or engineering crews which originally worked on the colony ship that the world's AI sucked into the atmosphere.

Large multi-ethnic (Hyboria/Faeun like) world inspired by antiquity and the dark ages. Emphasis is on a Middle Eastern and Indian atmosphere, but europe is also present.

Interested in turning up what was to be low fantasy into mid fantasy (some new humanoid races, I'd love to have an avian featured one like Kroots or Turians), not sure how.

[please note, this is the basics. The players know far more at this point]

Established over 250 years ago, the Dwarven Technocracy is an equal-opportunity-employment conglomerate that provides a large number of the technological and magical innovation that the citizens of the world enjoy. They are the ones who run the electric Rail system, and they who built the first airships. All known magic items were first discovered at their centers of learning, and they remain the greatest source of invention in the world. The Technocracy, however, does not share its secrets openly to anyone. The binding rituals that placate the elementals that power great transports are an industry secret, and it is said greater things lie in waiting in the western mountain holds.

The Technocracy is primarily a dwarf endeavor, based in the western mountain ranges, though it is open to any and all applicants, be them a bullywug from the swamps or balors from the Nine Hells. To rise in rank in the Technocracy, one must display mental aptitude above and beyond the rest. Its ruling council consists of a dwarf, an elf, a human, and a gnome, all masters of their respective fields, and all unanimously chosen by the lower members of the Technocracy.

    >>8573247

    The current masters are
Orrin Pok, gnome, who first designed the Rail system that spans the Empire and the Technocracy
    C. Darwin, elf, chief biologist, who has put forth numerous theories on the origins of life and ecosystems
Johnson (first name unknown), human, who advanced the research of many magic weapons and armors
Rockfist Fearengine, dwarf, who rebuilt himself with parts of a strange metal hulk that fell from the sky and is rumored to be designing something called a "Spelljammer."

The Technocracy follows the ideals of science and logic, and at its founding, elected their greatest scientist to the pantheon. People often claim their inspiration comes from "Sagan himself."

While your average Technocrat will generally be a jovial and agreeable fellow, NEVER disrespect their equipment, their inventions, or their rituals.

    Pic related.

Necromancer Polynesian humans who are prophesied to be the only survivors after an upcoming apocalypse. They've been recycling souls for a fucklong time, and what happens if there's too long between time as a living human and as the tree that is planted n their corpse after ritual following death, before being reborn, is essentially elf-dryad-id-creature. The tikiforged are the first experiments in turning the wood harvested from soul-trees into first masks of power, and then assembling the masks into a bodily structure. Tikiforged are meant to prevent the souls from going all feral-crazy.

The PCs are part of this tribe, venturing the forth to help bring about what is to be, for the other cultures that live in the world, The End of Days, that new souls for their people might become available.

One PC is a Tikiforged, with the rest of the players getting to play some of the other personalities thereof. One player is the feral elf-dryad-thing. The rest are mostly fighters, with a rogue, a druid, and an oracle.

    Pathfinder, BTW.

The Empire de Sangre Valiente, or Valiant Blood, has been around for almost 400 years. The Empire is a relatively enlightened area, mostly free of racism and discrimination, that enjoys excellent relations with the Dwarven Technocracy, but strained, almost hostile relations with the draconic Banking Clans of the Far Side. It is run democratically, with a constitution that has withstood many trials and tribulations.

An Emperor is elected for life by the people, and may step down whenever they feel, prompting a new election. A new Emperor, when elected, will often travel the Empire to get to know its people and generally establish a personal connection with its citizenship. After this period of travel, the Emperor will then take his seat at the capital and begin the affairs of government. An open door policy exists, and anyone may gain an audience with the Emperor. Almost nobody tries funny stuff because of the presence of the Imperial Guard.

The Imperial Guard are the fighting arm of the Empire. Blending the ways of magic and swordplay, the average Guardsman is trained under the greatest tutors, and equipped with the finest weapons and armor. The Emperors consider it an honor to lead the Guard, and almost all enter the same training and learn the same fighting styles as the Guardsmen. It can be said that an Imperial
Guardsman is a better fighter than a Technocratic Soldier, though the Technocracy makes up for it with experimental equipment.

The previous Emperor, a rotund jolly fellow named Emir P. King, the Man Formerly Known By His Middle Name Prince, has recently stepped down, and through a decisive grassroots campaign, a new Emperor, Delgado Marcion, has taken the throne. The Man Formerly Known as The Man Formerly Known By His Middle Name Prince, Emir King, has now retired to a nearby resort town to let the Alcohol flow.

The citizenry are guaranteed many religious and economic freedoms, though the most pervasive religion throughout the Empire is the Brotherhood. Their Messiah, an enigmatic man known for his scorpion tail crest, was voted into godhood hundreds of years ago, though some question the "Fast Track" he took to godhood.

I have a homebrew world where the Main Dieties have been crippled and are essentially either Vestiges, Dimiurges, or a strange elemental force that fills the earth. The Elves live on one continent (Ulnanis) and have lived there for time beyond time. Their varied cultures and environs have shaped them into different genus, and they have grown somewhat distant from one another. New species of Elf, inherited 'pseudocelestial' template of ascended Eldar, known as Frostguard.
The Frostguard are a spiritual throwback to what all Elves once were, and they live in a region at the very north of inhabitable earth known as Fessaline. Further north than Fessaline is a twisted mess of gnarled earth (Phantasmal disorientation) and demons are abound.

My current campaign started with the party waking up in an ancient dungeon attached to a mysterious machine. They exited the dungeon to find themselves in a lush jungle paradise, with the most notable feature being a wall running from horizon to horizon and reaching into the sky. Everything on the southern side of the wall is lush and fertile, but the people are primitive and the most advanced society is a hobgoblin empire built on salvaged tech from the ruins. On the other side of the wall is an arid wasteland where the last civilization exists as a hydraulic empire ruled by a mageocratic council. They are at a renaissance level of tech. The wall itself is the remnant of an ancient spacefaring race with powerful magic. The setting will evolve into a more stargatesque one in the sense that the party will get to explore the galaxy on foot using portals.

My campaign is going to be fairly simple in the beginning (Teaching a few first timers how to play). There are 4 major continents to the world, each with its own government and flavor. The major forces of influence are the Churches, trying to hold back the progress of the world and control everyone through puppet governments, the Magisterium, a cult that wishes to flood the world with powerful demons to cull the weak and strengthen civilization, and the Order of Eos, which doesn't interfere with the other two except to try and slow their plans a little bit here and there to maintain the status quo.

The PCs are made up of a cleric, who saw the gods in his youth and had his eyes boil out of his head and now wishes to bring balance to the world, a ranger who seeks revenge for the murder of his father who was, unknown to him, a member of the Order, and a rogue, stated out to be a crafter/merchant/mad inventor whose goal in life is to find all the legendary weapons of slain heroes for his personal collection.

I'm hoping to lead them into stopping all three organizations in order to complete their life goals.

The players are on a recently discovered continent that had been hidden away by the gods. It was severed from the mainland thousands of years ago and sealed away as tightly as possible so as to keep a god of corruption from escaping. By locking him in the mortal realm and removing all knowledge of him from mortal minds they were able to keep him from destroying the universe. His corruption does escape in small amounts causing chaos wherever it touches. My players are delving into the ruins of a lost giant society and finding out that some things are better left unknown.ZALGO!

My campaign world is pretty old, started off as a bit of fun with some friends, reflavored some pre-mades as I was pretty new to DMing D&D at the time, and it sorta took off. Been going over it and taking away the major videogame or other-setting rip-offs the last few weeks so I can start using it in more serious games.

Aria is a world set several hundred/thousand years after the blood war spilled over onto the mortal plane, and extraplanner beings were banished when the war got out of hand. Basically, you kill a demon or an angel in the planes, and they don't die, they are simply reborn anew soon there-after. When they discovered that they could die forever in the material plane, they quickly started drawing one another into various worlds and realms to bring an end to their eternal war.

The gods of Aria looked upon the war, and whilst they felt for the plight of their mortal followers, claimed that they were already doing all that they could do, by sending their angelic minions to face the demons and devils in open war, destroying the mortal land in the process. They refused to have any hand in the war directly or openly.

As things progressed, the mortals started getting really fucked over from all this bloodshed, slaughter, etc. A third faction entered the fray, a grouped effort of dragons, mixed of all subspecies and varieties that wished to see their world survive the war, and with the way the gods were handling it, they decided that they could do better.

So the dragons literally combined their magic and their knowledge, and took the divine spark of godhood from the gods of men, elves, dwarves, etc. They used the power to banish the good and evil armies, to close the gates to the planes and shatter all connections with anything but the material realm and a mild touch to the etherial and the plane of shadow, and cast the remains of the once-gods into the planes where they would deal with the war they refused to take part in, or lift a finger to stop.

The dragons then instigated a new system of godhood into the realm, electing one of each of their subspecies to govern different aspects of the world. These beings, known as paragons, do not quite hold the power of the old-gods, the spark scattered and sunk into the world to renew it and so that no single being would hold the power of a 'god' again. Paragons would be cycled every few hundred years, the most promising of each subspecies being elected by it's fellows to uphold their aspects.

Thus, the whites, currently the church of Matariel the Beast, govern the domain of hunters, the wild, storms and bring in the coming of winter and the end of each year. In comparison, Armisael the Storyteller, Paragon of the brass, governs the domans of negotiation, community, stortelling and the family, as well as dabling in craftsmanship and the forge.

The 10 main dragons have churches based on them, 5 metallics and chromatics. They have an even balance of law/chaos and none are truly good or evil, very much inspired by the church of the divine emperor of mankind from 40k, each wanting the best for their followers, but large, powerful and very much inhuman at their core.

Currently all games have taken place within the Mu Empire, a very large region that is at the forefront of recovering after the world was almost destroyed only a few short centuries ago. Mu is very much a mix of western and eastern themes, with a samurai-like knight status, ruling lords that bow down to a voted warlord, yet all swear servitude to the imperial family and Emperess Valencia, the physical manifestation of the soul of the empire. All military might is divided between the temples efforts, making up the elite, and those trained by the lords governing the land, that make up much of the faceless grunt.

I've recently been working on new regions, based heavily on the idea of druidic magic filling the niche of the churches for a more wilderness-friendly group, an arcane focused empire and something with psionics that is still very early in design-work.

I write a lot of short stories for the world, as does a player of mine who took part in the original campaign, his character, Erisa, became his iconic and we both work on and off to write a novel of her tales within Aria.

Also, please note that I don't have a massive massive hard-on for dragons. I like my dragons intelligent, powerful and inhuman but trying to do a job they felt only they were worthy of doing right, the friendly and playful ones make me want to hurl.

This trickles down to draconic minions too, my players regularly refuse to enter Kobold dungeons unless they're packing a few well-built characters and the group is larger than normal in meat-bags.

The Elven kingdoms never liked that their old empire fell. When Mordenkaiden and his wife Melee produced the first eternal wands, it sparked a hidden magical revolution. twenty years later, a eyeblink to the court of the stars, Flying ships with magical cannon were being tested, and the first flying castle, the Agaion was designed. ten years later, even as the first eternal wands started to be produced in naboring kingdoms, Agaion was finished. With the terrible advantage of a castle that could be placed anywhere, and magical superiority in seige weapons, the Court of the Stars declared war on the peaceful nation of Ustio. The nations government was run by former members of Melee and Mordinkaidens own party, and fought back better then any other nation could have. They were broken inside of a week, forced to flee before the unstoppable force of Elven Knights in Magically Mobile Armor, Maged platemail that allowed its user to dodge as if they wore light hide. It seemed that the Onslought of the kingdom of Belka was unstoppable.

Then when they had control of some terratory, they stopped after a year and a half of crushing victory. Akron, the child of the progenitors of the house of Mordenkaiden, argued that the war could not wait or their advantages would be lost. Unwilling to listen to the words of 'a half blooded youngster' they declared their intention to hold their land as 'a buffer zone.' Their internal retorich of 'subjugating the lesser races' was not missed. after 10 years of holding in place, the Court of the Stars sent Belka's armys on the march again in the vastly improved ships Akron had produced for them. But the decade of silence had bought time for the other races and kingdoms to rally, and the Inter-State Allied Forces had backengineered much of what had let Belka conqure with ease. MMA and skyship met its match, and even the Agaion fortress was destroyed in the terrible battle that won a temporary lull in the fighting over the vital area known as Barrier (B7R). The dimond and obsidan resources of this area were to vital to war production for either side to let alone.

Enter the PC's Mercanarys willing to work for the Elves and their massively higher bankroll. Their first mission? Retreve the lateist prototype skyship, stolen a month ago by the ISAF. This ship, named Chimera, had a unique variant on warforged as its control scheme, a Integreated Intelligence. It has been rechristend the Belerophon, but its II has not had time to really get it working. Forced by the hunting work of the Belkan border patrol ships to hide inside Elven terratory, recapture of the ship is their top priority.
    >> Sorain 03/14/10(Sun)06:20 No.8577408
Taking it back and restoring (via dialog) the ships II to Chimera (Akron's soul bound to the vessel) nets the PC's a flying ship of impressive power, enough to let them assault fortresses for boarding actions to put an end to them. Do they work to aid the Court of the Star's warmongering ways and conquer for ritches? Support the moderates to put an end to this madness? Convence the II to side with ISAF and fight against the Court of the Stars? Or perhaps turn Pirate and Mercanry with the most advanced ship in the skys?

"The skys belong to everyone. Now, let us take back our, Shattered Skys." - ISAF General before the battle of B7R.

Naturally a lot of names and general outline was pulled from Ace Combat. (amoung other sources) But it worked out quite well while the party lasted. (Fireball in a 10x10x10 room is a bad idea in any edition)

Mine is based largely around what once used to be a single continent, but has recently been ripped across the middle by a large rift where the material plane meets a number of other planes that shouldn't really be touching right now (my players know it as 'the void')

On either side of the void lies one of two waring nations. One is a nation inspired by the vinci from rise of legends where magic is largely taboo and science is law, the other is a mageocracy which is lacking greatly in science and open mindedness, but has a deep understanding of magic.

The party is tasked with finding a way to close the void before their home city of central crossing (located on a small land bridge between the two cities) is swallowed up into the void.

That's the super condensed version, I have half a dozen other continents and a pretty decent back story for each nation and how it and it's cities relate to other nations.

I'd highly suggest looking up campaign wikis, I keep mine on obsidian portal but I'm sure other sites exist. There's boundless inspiration if you're willing to dig through the shit campaigns and read a bit.

shitty picture of the old map, but essentially there is a world with three continents, Carinthis, Mirlo, and Iloen; this huge cataclysm sinks the majority of Mirlo and Iloen, forcing its occupants to migrate to Carinthis which is relatively intact still, compared to the other land masses. Kratoria (word based off the roman word for empire) WAS the largest empire residing on carinthis, sharing a peace with the dwarfs and elves of the north and east, while continuously cautious of the power hungry tribes of the south. and always at war with the creatures of the north and south east.

The tribes of the south were very primitive, but with the discovery of a magical stone simply called darkstone, and the knowledge gained from conflict with kratoria to the north, they became a massive sprawling force to be reckoned with. With the sudden death of the 7th king, his four children fought for the throne peacefully, until Maharuu (Ma-Ha-roo) (the youngest) murdered his eldest brother and tried to take the throne for himself, his middle brother and sister Aranimir and Nahja fought against him. after two decades of conflict Maharuu's highest priest cast a spell, using the darkstone, to raise the dead to fight for him; but the curse caused a reaction within the darkstone and over the next 5 or so years made its way to the largest deposit of darkstone under the planet's crust. It detonated and caused not only the cataclysm which sets the events of the campaign in motion, but ultimately killed the two empires, whose land is now referred to as the cursed lands.

and had been needing that for one of the later parts of the campaign, when the Polynesian-alikes, their crazed ancestor-turned-elf/dryad-thing, and the Tikiforged, reach the analog of the Central and South American areas - the Olmec-analogs will be the Circle-themed water and air worshippers, while the Aztec-alikes will be further down the island chain, waging periodic ritualized warfare for claim of the citadel that floats above an active volcano, working not unlike the City of Brass, blood sacrifice appeasing the Soul of Fire at the volcano's core. Heart sacrifices keep it pleased and fed, with the occasional sacrifice becoming a Chosen of the Volcano, magma spontaneously filling the opened chest cavity and the sacrificed becoming effectively half-elementals/genasi of fire, no longer vulnerable to any heart-targetting abilities that lack cold. Mechanically, if the sacrifice makes 3 particularly hard fort saves after the heart was taken out, they 'ascend'. If they fail the first save, the sacrifice dies outright. The second, they die slowly and essentially are consumed by the fire that wells from the hole in their chest. If they fail the third, they ascend, and something goes quite wrong - they aren't undead, but instead of fully changing, they're effectively alive with an agonizing searing hole in their chest that will not stop burning, with predictable results - stark fucking madness and torment. They aren't typically mercy-killed, however, because they tend to make rather useful shock troops. Also, they don't require feeding.

Oh, and the pic was related due to the Olmec-alikes having a culture themed heavily around water, wind, and circles. Ancient Astronaut references will abound, their pyramids are more like stacked giant discs, and concentric circle themes will be everywhere. Their capital is essentially a pillar in the middle of an area that looks like that reef, with the outer edge an actual ring island, and with tunnels throughout the underside big enough for truly huge horrors of the sea to sometimes wander into the inner sea areas.

My setting is a norse epic.

Vikings everywhere, a romanesque mega empire to the south wants to destroy all pantheons besides the cult of the god emperor, and dominate/inslave all humanoid species. Thor himself has chosen a king threw a series of prior campaigns and his champion along with the queen of said champion are charged with unifying the tribes under one banner to go to war against the invading imperials.

The players need to head to the frozen north, atop the tallest mountain and retrieve a relic from the first great hero of the north men. With it returned to the queen and repaired, no north man can deny the Jarls right to rule and will unite for war, but it is guarded by living winter herself.

    This is part 1.

Never considered them, given I've not played the series.

The visual I was trying to convey was the whole Mezoamerican pyramids, done more as stepped cones, rather than staired four-sided pyramid structure.

What with them being the water and wind culture, smooth curves are more their thing. The volcano dwellers are the sleek yet sharp edges folks.

Besides, eventually they will be going through a major low-lands near-sargasso version of Nyambe; picture Africa if instead of the actual land-dividing lines on a map, they were all replaced with waterways. And of course, the water level of the world being as high as it is, it takes the whole rainforest/jungle dynamic to even greater heights...and lots and lots more disease, leeches, and other associated bits of nasty. The wiyakambe will play a far more prevalent roll in helping the ground-dwellers get by...and the dwarves will be even more pissed because life is as if someone started operation FUCK THE WORLD way ahead of schedule, and used water instead of lava.

Also also, carp. AND elephants. AND undead elephants.

My players are utterly unfamiliar with Dwarf Fortress, and this will be the first (maybe only) time I've cribbed from it.

its basically dnd in space. Magitek space ships and such. The core world is basically the Alliance/federation whatever made up of humans, elves, orcs, and dwarves, all genetically elated to each other. They went out into space, colonized the galaxy, and the first alien species they met were the Changelings.

The Changelings had two factions, one who wanted to trade peacefully while the other half was working with the Illithids who basically are scouring the galaxy for genetic stock. Originally using the changelings bodies for their own, they wanted to expand as each Illithid varied depending on what type of alien they infected and those traits were passed on to their tadpoles. They were basically trying to be the best aliens around by taking all the best genetic material from other aliens, kind of like the Asari in mass effect.

I used other abberation races as evil aliens, with the most prominent besides mindflayers being aboleths and beholders. It was fun working with the others figuring what kind of ship designs they would have.

At this point I might as well put the information up on 1d4chan.

But the question is, would anyone care?

(Incidentally, I am still working on electric circuits, so you are still welcome to select a topic.)

now these worlds seem to have nothing to do with one another however somewhere unkwown a genius scientist has created the first time machine that not only travels through time but through the very dimensions of reality is it the greatest invention ever? it would be had he not made a fatal mistake
every time he jumps it leaves a rip in the nature of reality and can grow and suck from the tinyest pinhead to the largest planet and everything in between to another dimension

what is left is four semmingly unrelated worlds tossed into each others wars strife and problems and forced to work together to prevent anarchy and destruction

ask if you wnat more info

I'd definitely play in your setting. What is it called?

Right now? It has no name, just a code designation - Project Democracy . Not very exciting, I know. But I never needed to name it so I never considered the problem.

I have a massive setting that I've used for quite a few campaigns with a mythology based off of Hinduism and Gnosticism. Loosely based.

There is only one true creator, and it's nameless, formless, and careless. Like an apathetic Azathoth that created creation just because it HAD to. At first, it's Planes all worked in unison, supplying each other and making wonderful things that could not be described, or even sensed in any traditional way. Eventually, the friction between the planes shattered them into their present form, and created the first modern, imperfect life. These beings, the Demiurges, basically the gods of the gods, bickered and grew self-centered. The entirety of the setting takes place in just one Demiurge's Domain, which is an entire universe and then some. It created the Gods to service it, and the Gods created various beings to serve them. Gods have died and been replaced and reshaped innumerable times throughout the Domain's history, but ultimately they are of little consequence. Your average mortal, even demon or angel, has no idea about what is really going on behind the scenes.

Now, the biggest problem with this setting is relevance. How are mere mortals, regardless of how powerful they become, going to change or be changed by the Domain and what lies beyond? Well, each Demiurge believes itself to be THE god. And the other ones suck. So they constantly attack and fight each other, despite the fact that they will never be able to win or lose. Illithid's are actually invaders from another domain, as are all "Far Realm" creatures. Elder Gods, or their equivalent, are just the manifestation of another Demiurge's attacks on the Domain. So, depending on the specific campaign, the PC's are attacking Illithid and repelling ancient evils, believing themselves to be saving their plane or two, or they are extra-universal travelers, serving their Demiurge or trying to escape life altogether through enlightenment.

A lot of gay backstory, mostly. Sit back and read up (if you dare)

The most essential forces in the universe are Unity and Discord. Though not strictly sapient in their own right (any more than gravity or electromagnetism is), they still have an agenda and a kind of intelligence and an influence over courses of events of particular importance to them.

They are at odds with each other. In a timeless sort of ur-place before things in a proper sense exist at all, this is how it all begins. A being of peace and a being of conflict are in conflict with each other. Who do you think wins?

To prevent itself from being obliterated, Unity shuts itself away from the rest of existence in what truly must be the most pocketed away of all pocket planes ever devised. Discord lets Unity maintain a limited influence on the cosmos and how it unfolds - a little peace and togetherness goes a long way in perpetuating the cycles of conflict (material, social, ideological, whatever-ical) that Discord has a vested interest in seeing perpetuated.

In its little pocket place, Unity has free reign. It's cherry-picked an obscure solar system from the proper universe and spends its time tinkering with social experiments, trying to design a planet and a society free from conflict, fragmentation, everything Discord perpetuates. To 'help' Unity's endeavor, Discord occasionally tosses it 'troublemakers' of particular influence from the rest of the cosmos, peacekeepers and pacifists and other persons of eminence whose potential to mess with Discord's plans is too great to take a chance with. So Unity's plane, which was always a prison plane to begin with, begins to receive a steady stream of new inmates.

So out of a ragtag assembly of pacifists and do-gooders, Unity tries to build its utopia. But it won't work. The harder it tries, the more things it does to appease and make its people happy, the more they regard him as a god. And the more it appears as a god to them, the further away it seems to be from them. And from that Essential Separation between it and his subjects, more cracks begin to form - and society falls apart - and the experiment fails.

It thinks (for some definition of 'think') long and hard what to do. And it realizes that so long as it acts as an entity separate from its subjects, discord will always be present. And to solve this problem it kills itself - dissolves itself - gives itself up to its subjects, to act as the glue between their warring egos, forming a collective consciousness between all things living in his pocket universe. So that nobody would ever act without feeling every consequence. So that everybody would always do what was best - for everyone. And it worked, and there was peace in this strange little bubble, however awkward and twisted it might have been.

The planet is called Noe. It's a world with a single sun and no moons with an effective 'equator' at the +45 degree latitude line, which creates a world with an immense, uninhabitable, permanently dark south pole and a scorching hot 'ring of fire' in the northern latitudes that separates the north pole from the equatorial regions, which are the only two temperate regions. And nobody lives in the north pole, for reasons unknown.

The campaign (DID I MENTION THIS WAS ALL FOR A PROPOSED NEVERWINTER NIGHTS MOD NOT FOR TABLETOP GAMING, LOL JOKE'S ON YOU) begins when the PC, who is a psychic comatose child who isn't actually the PC at all (yet), starts an unexplained chain reaction of explosive transplanar portal jumps that literally rips a giant hole through the known multiverse before landing in a giant flaming crater on the bottom tip of the southeast archipelago of the continent of Pelagia (pic related) in Unity's pocket dimension. Waking up next to them is you, the NPC, one of five rigidly defined characters chosen at the start, who has to figure out what the fuck. Oh, and when you blasted a hole through the walls of Unity's pocket plane, Unity ceased to exist - and paradise isn't going to stay paradise now for much longer.

The game was, essentially, about conflict. How it manifests, how people deal with it, why it exists and why we need it (or why we think we do). Also about agency within the context of rigidly linear RPGs. A big sweeping pseudophilosophical postmodern fantasy epic for the new millenium or some shit. I was sixteen with a lot of free time and no friends. I'm sure at least a few people can relate. A huge load of overambitious pretentious bullshit, all style and no substance - and damn it if I still wouldn't love to make it some day.

    The world is old.

The mountains are softened and smaller than most. The plains have been rolling and vast for longer than anyone can remember. Trees blot out the sky in ancient forests, and canyons cut the continent nearly in half.

Dragons have long-since been made extinct. Most of the great monsters are as well. What remains are the small, the clever, the hidden and supernatural.

The mortal species are also old. Elves till the plains and make minor changes to their herdbeasts. Dwarfs live in their forests, working as dwarfs are wont to do- tending them like any human does his garden. In the rough north, in the moorland, the Aasimar and Tiefling raise their animals and live away from most, simply wanting to be left alone by their fore-bearers on both sides.

Above, Superbia's angels try not to lose themselves in their Virtues. Below, the Underlund's devils relish indulging their Vices. Both of them ply the mortal plane, trying to lure the mortal races to them.

Across the seas are wild, new places, unclaimed by Mortals int he Known Countries. But the seas are dangerous- the ancient Kraken and her children are jealous, capricious, and incredibly powerful; requiring bribery and endless tribute and praise.

Basically old European sort of tamed wilderness is the 'main' continent, with lumberjack brit dorfs and chillin pastoral elves and scot-irish-welsh Aasimar Tieflings. There's humans, but they're loud and italian and no one likes them but they have the best boats.
