Settlers of catan is actually not a very good game. It's a big step up from monopoly and risk, but it's still not very good. People really only play it because it is famous, has good pr, is a classic, etc. It is good for getting people into the hobby though, and games can last less than an hour with experienced players.
Agricola = best game of all time. Has very, very little luck, huge skill, very fun. I will never tire of playing it.
Dominion: not techically a board game, but whatever, it's a board game in spirit. The two best parts of dominion are that every game you play is 100% unique, and games can take a very short amount of time. Plenty of expansions if you enjoy it (like my friends did). I went a whole summer just playing new dominion strategies in my head that I would try out that night.
Power grid: only played it around twice. It might be my next flame. Seems really cool, but since I've played it so little I'm not sure if it has staying power/replay value.
Bang: a fun little card game that will only be fun if your friends enjoy acting like outlaws/sheeiffs in the wild west.
Munchkin: not a very good game, only as good as you find end jokes funny
Game of thrones/diplomacy: long ass games that will lose you friends. Dickery at it's finest. Kind of like risk without nearly as much luck. I enjoy game of thrones more, but that's just me.
So, if you don't get agricola, I'll kill you. I also think that dominion is great; it's fun, it's short, it's new every time. Other than that, up to you brah |
