    Reaper-tree it is.

After absorbing the soul of its prey, the tree melts the body into a necrotic mush inside of its hollow trunk. This paste congeals into a kind of growth medium, that undead plants of various kinds begin to sprout from. In time, these shoots fuse together to make another colony creature, which is then ejected from the parent.

It has to do with how they grow their roots. A tree will grow more roots (and tree) in one direction, and gradually let the bits on the other side die. Over time, the tree moves from one spot to another. It's a very long process, but it happens. Trees do all sorts of neat things. There's the strangler fig, which is like a vampire tree, there's the Ombu tree which is near indestructible... trees are cool.

They can move very slowly across the land, almost too slow to notice (like a starfish). Their branches and vines and thorns and flytrap mouths are all pretty fast, though.

Okay. Start describing this creature's appearance. We'll decide which one wins by consensus.

They have a brownish gray bark that resembles normal tree bark but when they eat souls every now and then a face of whatever they killed forms in the bark. Said face is not clearly visible from a distance but as you get closer to the tree you notice patterns in the bark that turn out to be a face.

Rusty-brownish in color, kind of what really dried-out blood looks like. Semi-transparent (heavily tinted) veins run over the surface of the tree, and within it, through which the tormented souls flow. It stretches upwards for a looooong ways, and is covered with very thick, strong bark. Its leaves are a dusty purple in color.

A supermassive tree which towers over all, the helltree's bark is actually formed from a vast quantity of dead plant matter that was reanimated and condensed into an incredibly durable brown-red substance that appears bark like from a distance, but is actually more comparable to a chitinous alloy. The tree has millions of branches which run all along it's trunk, all of which grab, bite, and strangle any living matter within it's grasp with numerous vines, thorns and "mouths" of dead carnivorous plants which were incorporated into it.

Spikey, venomous leaves whose poison turns it's victims into undead servants of the tree.

The question is: do their victims simply become undead and listen to the whims of the tree, or are they added to the mass of the tree itself?

    By Azaltan Smit

    Chapter 84: Helltrees

    Q: What is a Helltree?

A: Good question. A helltree is a holy undead abomination, composed of necrotic undead plant life.

Q: Holy Abomination? Don't you mean Unholy?

A: No. No I do not. I am a wizard. I do not make typos. Despite appearances, the Helltree was actually created by ___________ god of ____________. Official sources have him quoted as saying that he just wanted to create something nice. Obviously, he failed rather spectacularly, which rather brings his omnipotence into question.

Q: So, it's a plant? That doesn't sound too harmful.

A: You are completely wrong. Helltrees eat SOULS. More on this later.

Goddammit. 4chan just ate my reply. Suffice to say for the moment: Helltrees are massive, have any number of ways to kill you (From crushing you with branches to noxious gasses that make you come closer whilst poisoning you to spiky vine whips), have a large trunk covered in (and composed of) undead branches and vines, which is a deep coppery red in color, like dried blood. The non-bark components are dusty purple in color. They are mobile, though slowly. It was made by a good god, who honestly thought people would appreciate them. They reproduce, though slowly, and most of them have been killed off by a grand crusade which also killed tons of heroes. Also, here's the last part of the Q&A, because I still have it:

Q: What does a Helltree look like?

A: For the last time, it's a conglomeration of dead plants. The compressed chitinous bark is reddish-brown, like dried blood. The leaves, vines, and all non-bark components are a dusty purple in color. Its entire trunk is lined with branches, flowers, flytraps, and vines. It is also unspeakably vast.

Q: Can I have sex with a Helltree?

    A: No.

Q: Not even a female one?

    A: What's wrong with you?

Q: What if there were a Helltree shaped like a humanoid female?

A: FINGER OF DEATH! Well, now that we're done with the Q&A, let's get into the chapter proper...

    Now get with the drawfagging.

Q: So wait, if I'm near a Helltree, how do I kill it?

    A: You don't.

Q: So Helltrees can't be killed?

A: Well, mostly not. Have you ever heard of the Heltriad? It tells the story of the extermination of most of the Helltrees. Along with pretty much all of the heroes of the time.
