    Hello /tg/,

Suptg is back online, and that means I managed to finish screen-capping all the the Eclipse Phase in Mass Effect threads (actually just Contagonist writefaggotry, but whatever)

And since now we return, It occurred me something interesting.

What if the Batarians wanted to withdraw themselves from the Galactic Council anyway? and they used the Council "inaction" against transhumanity to be a sign of weakness, specially when they place sanctions on the Batarians for engaging in forbidden research. (not that they would stop doing so anyway)

And whats worse. what if the non-existant presence of Transhumanity in the Terminus systems basically caused an butterfly effect that led to the Batarians discovering the Rachni Queen egg?.

Did someone said 3 front conflict in the works?
    Systems Alliance
    vs
    Citadel Council
    vs
    Terminus Pirate Combine

I'm not totally clear on the ME lore, but I was under the impression that the Batarians were pretty comfortable with the Council until the Alliance started colonizing 'their' space. This lead them to throw a hissy fit, take their ball and go home.

Since there's no expansion into Batarian space in the crossover, there'd need to be some other provocation... Maybe Batarians run into Transhumans operating outside the exclusion zone? I'm imaging that someone would eventually take it upon themselves to nanofabricate spaceships on the far side of a Pandora gate and go exploring. Perhaps one of those explorers gets caught in the "zone of batarian interest" and that leads to the batarians flipping their shit?

They take the news to the council, but their evidence is sketchy and the turian councilor goes all: "Ah yes, transhumans 'outside the zone' we have dismissed that claim". Batarians then decide that no one is taking the transhuman threat seriously and takes it upon themselves to crusade against them?

You could take it even further and have the plot of the first ME game replaced with the struggles of the heroic first batarian spectre to bring the insidious transhuman threat to light. What with their spooky non-relay FTL, widespread infiltration of the extranet with infomorphs and the shocking revelation of transhumans operating in citadel space via cunning turian (and quarian?) morphs.

The plotwist is that Transhumanity found evidence of the Reapers while searching for possible secrets from the Galactic Council.

They lauch a covert operation to retrieve the Conduit and if possible disable the Citadel.

Every single other race sees this as an act of war.

as a matter of fact, yes.

    tl;dr version:

Prothean ruins are discovered on mars by hypercorps, and when the outer system found out, hacked into hypercorp networks to get the information. They make a mutual co-operation pact in regards to mass effect research and mutual defense, and start colonizing.

Fast forward to first contact war: space combat goes well for Turians, but ground combat goes horrible for them. They panis, start bombarding the planet, but the fleet is hacked into self destruction by Firewall agents helped by the Promethean seed AIs.

    Diplomacy ensues.

Would there still be a Sovereign + Saren+ heretic geth alliance? I'm imagining an amusing situation where Saren and Firewall/Ozma are racing each other to the Conduit while the dogged batarian spectre nips at both of their heels trying to figure out what the hell is going on.

I wonder if there would still be an Eden Prime situation? Could make it an idyllic citadel planet that has recently discovered a prothean beacon, only to be attacked by Sovereign + covert Firewall agents trying to claim the beacon for their respective selves.

I recall something about Saren's hate for humanity having roots in the death of his brother at the hands of the Alliance during the First Contact War. Perhaps in the crossover his brother was one of the few 'fortunate' souls to have been captured during the fleet battle - only to be subjected to a botched async interrogation that virtually destroyed his mind. From Saren's perspective his brother left as a proud member of the fleet but after contact with transhumanity came back as a stuttering moron gnawing on his own talons. That'd set up his attitude nicely - maybe his 'alliance' with Sovereign in his universe is centered around saving the Citadel species from the inevitable predation from transhumanity.

I Couldn't have setup any better.

Just to add extra fuel to the fire. What the Batarians spotted was not Transhuman activity. but Sovereign. Since they can't recognize it they reported it as a Transhuman vessel.

Transhumanity isn't a scout boy on this one either. any ship batarian ship that came across them didn't have the oportunity to transmit a warning.

Saren uses the conduit, transhumanity follows (after leaving an infomorph with Vigil for data mining. The Batarian specter behind them both. Everyone arrives on the Citadel. The battle turns into a huge clusterfuck with hacked Geth and the Citadel systems flooded with infomorphs. The Geth fleet arrives and makes short work of the Citadel defense fleet with Sovereign at the lead. A huge cyberwar kicks off with the infomorphs trying to hold back Sovereign's seizure of Citadel systems while the ground troops make their way to the council area. The Batarian fleet arrives and gets held up in the massive battle. They let the council die for being assholes, also Batarians are like that. Saren and Sovereign are defeated eventually and before anything can be done, Transhumanity steals away Sovereign's body along with a geth assault ship and take it back to Alliance space to be studied. The new Batarian led council decides Transhumanity was behind it all along and declares war. Then the Batarian specter gets killed by a collector ship.

(Since there's no Contagionst, I'll try my hand at some amateur writefaggotry since it's more dignified then a bump)

The idea of the batarians mistaking a Reaper for a transhuman ship makes alot of sense.

I figure that information regarding transhumans would be *strictly* controlled by the council and very limited to begin with for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, there wasn't much to go on - the ground forces were nearly annihilated and much of what they reported was fragmented and hyperbolic, the gist of it being that the transhumans were sporting bizarre and disturbing forms and weapons and things they'd never seen. The fleet battle would yield equally little information, most of the ships were destroyed and the ones that weren't were disassembled by the transhumans - the only knowledge of what happened would be the traumatized and confused testimony of the surviving crew with no hard forensic evidence left behind. Essentially all that the council knows is that transhuman equipment/people have strange shapes and are made from strange materials.
    >> Anonymous 03/02/10(Tue)16:23 No.8365206
Secondly, the council would likely take measures to downplay everything that happened at Shanxi - especially the turians. The entire position of the turian species in the galaxy is hinged around their martial superiority and by extension it's this superiority that gives the council it's unquestioned position in the galaxy. Knowledge that the turians had not just been defeated, but *routed* would undermine everything. Still, you can't hide the loss of 2 dreadnaughts.... so I figure that the council would do everything it could to suggest that the whole thing was just a tragic mistake and that the transhumans had taken the same or worse losses. They'd avoid mentioning the spooky unprecidented weapons or the almost magical information warfare powers and employ every half-truth and near-lie they can come up with to make transhumanity sound little different from any other species. Perhaps they'd spin some story about transhumans being biologically defective in some way and therefore dependant on illegal genetic technology to survive and that the council was "magnanamously" allowing them to continue their way of life so long as they stay in the transhuman exclusion zone.

Still, it's not possible to hide the scale of what happened at Shanxi - especially when the turian POWs return home and figures like the Shadow Broker start digging into the data. Rumors would circulate of the strange, powerful and disturbing technology the transhumans possess. Little details, but the idea of mishapen monstrous machines made of strange materials sinks into the public consciousness and give the transhumans and almost Geth like air of mystery and danger.

I figure that this universe's Eden Prime would be an idyllic batarian plane that makes the "wonderful" discoverery of a prothean beacon and announces it through secret channels to the batarian government in order to arrange for a clandestine pickup. Unfortunately for them, the STG and the Spectres have batarian channels throughly bugged while infiltrating Firewall infomorphs lurk in the extranet background. The Council admonishes the batarians and makes moves to put them under sanction until turn the beacon over for the 'good of all Citadel species'.

While this is going on Sovereign/Saren make their move and drop out of no where onto the batarian colony with maximum force, instantly overwhelming the planetary defenses and slaughtering at will with *strange mishapen machines* and horror of horrors - Geth! Saren manages to access the beacon and prepares to destroy the colony, but is mercifully stopped by a heroic batarian commander (with the clandestine help of a Firewall infiltration team here to download the beacon data). The colony is spared and Saren escapes entirely unseen - what is seen however are members of the Firewall team when they throw all caution to the wind in order to disable the last of the explosives.

Firewall infowar specialists succeed in making contact with the beacon, using Prothean protocols recovered from the Martian ruins but unforunately force the beacon into an uncontrolled EMERGENCY MASS DOWNLOAD to everyone in vacinity, including one of the batarian commander's subordinates. The heroic batarian commander is exposed to the beacon when he steps in to pull his subordinates from it's grasp and experences the Prothean vision.

Frightened by what they've seen, the batarian commander and his immediate superior rush to the Citadel to warn the Council of this horrible truth - the transhumans are outside the zone and they're working with the Geth!
    >> 008 03/02/10(Tue)16:25 No.8365241
    >>8364943
The Batarians, lacking a Cerberus like organization, lose their Specter and are suffering abject racism and violence across the Citadel due to their sudden council membership. The Batarians will have none of that and make things worse and worse. The turian member has to airquotes so many times a day he injures himself.

Meanwhile, Transhumanity studies Sovereign and figures out indoctrination along with some of his other technology. Indoctrination appears to only work on biological intelligence, thus all work on Sovereign is done through machine morphs of various type. Various transhuman factions consider indoctrinating the Jovians.

Infomorphs still in the Citadel systems continue to report in Citadel activity, day to day operations and most importantly, all their war planning. The other council races don't quite know what happened at the Citadel siege as there were reports of transhumans fighting geth, geth fighting geth (hacked) and Saren clearly doing something bad. The Asari and Salarian representatives want more information. The Turian red is more then willing to resume the first contact war. The Batarian rep wants to drive a moon into Transhuman worlds. No one thinks this is a good idea except the Batarians.
    >> 008 03/02/10(Tue)16:38 No.8365400
    >>8365241
The Collectors begin harvesting Batarian worlds, thinking them to be the key in Sovereign's defeat; there is no genetic information on transhumanity that's worth liquidating to make a giant reaper with, they're considered an anomaly like the Geth and possible servants if turned.

The Batarians have no heroic specter anymore to gather his team of epic heros to raid Omega, but instead it becomes a case of the Bataran fleet losing multiple engagements to the Collector ships until they finally destroy the Omega Relay. The council is terribly disappointed in this action and the Batarians may lose their seat. For the collectors, they no longer have an easy route out of their space and the giant Batarian reaper sits incomplete and gathering dust.

One issue with the batarian stuff is that Eden Prime was one of the first worlds settled by humanity in ME. As in, before the First Contact War.

So it's going to be inside the TEZ.

There's also going to be at least some effort in the TEZ to develop genemods and wetware/hardware upgrades that the Council can't spot, for use by the Splicer colonies being set up in other systems.

The Terminus Region is also likely to be the site of heavy amounts of transhuman activity; since the Council has no actual say there, they don't have any real recourse against transhuman involvement. And the Systems Alliance can always pass it off as "anarchists, ultimates, Jovians, you wouldn't believe all the different factions roaming around our territory".

Any posthumans that are around, though, are going to join Sovereign the instant they find out he exists.

    Why?

I find it highly unlikely that the Transhumans are going to join Sovereign.

Its also hinted that Indoctrination is more of an Energy field, and it seems that it also affects the Heretic Geth.

You can pass of this as saying that there's reaper involvement in the Exurgent Virus. and as it is. Its Highly unlikely that sovereign will rally large support. there maybe some but not everyone.

I like the idea of keeping the Batarian Specter, but instead of being ressurected by a severus like organization he's actually resleeved into one of the First functioning Batarian Morphs.

And so he ends up working along side Firewall, which dedicates himself to save Transmankind AND the Galaxy against ETI threats (EDI, Reapers, TITANS etc etc.)

Regarding "Eden Prime" I missed a few words when writing that. The intention was that it wasn't literally Eden Prime but rather whatever the batarian equivalent is, some safe and beautiful planet somewhere in batarian space.

As for the rest, it's an interesting question how much access to the greater galaxy the transhumans have (without the recourse to the Pandora gates). Do they have relay access to the Terminus or are the relays out of the TEZ all monitored and blockaded by council forces?

Assuming that they have relay access to the Terminus, it's hard to guess what the council's reaction would be to transhumans running unchecked in Terminus space. On the face of it it seems like something of the nightmare scenario for the council - the transhumans possibly have the ability and the inclination to rally the non-aligned Terminus governments into a cohesive anti-Citadel power bloc. I'd think that the council would be torn between wanting to take preemptive action to contain the transhumans and being deeply terrified of the consequences. After all, the ultimate limit of transhuman abilities is a great big question mark as far as they are concerned.
    >> Anonymous 03/02/10(Tue)19:14 No.8367929
Another question is how much interaction exists between the TEZ and Citadel space under normal conditions. My assumption is that both sides would be doing their utmost to limit the flow of people and information across the border.

From the Citadel's point of view, they know virtually nothing about transhuman information technology, cybernetics or genetic modification - any transhuman device or person could be loaded to the brim with potentially devestating items and they'd never know it. Any transhuman in Citadel space is likely to be as simple a morph as possible, probably specifically invited for the purpose of 'cultural exchange' and watched like a hawk by intelligence services. I suspect that alarms will ring if the transhuman so much as broadcasts a single data packet - paranoia would be the watchword.

From the System's Alliance point of view, they are going to do everything they can to prevent Citadel citizens from becoming aware of their true capabilities/factionalization/population as well as even the barest hint of the Pandora gates. If heavy colonization/exploration is going on through the gates keeping it secret from a visitor would be nearly impossible.

All and all, it seems like the flow of people either way would be limited to carefully handled 'goodwill ambassadors' and whatever illegals manage to sneak across.

I may be wrong, but I think that the whole reason of the TEZ conflict is that the Transhumans aren't allowed to LEAVE the TEZ, not even to the areas where they excert no control.

Because they are trying to avoid them from rallying forces. The infiltration however is all fine.

It would be interesting to see the Batarian Specter only finding out that Saren is behind everything at Virmire. and only then knowing that while the Transhumans had their own agenda, they really wanted to stop Saren, and they wanted to study Sovereign looking for any piece of technology that could help them against the TITANS. Humanity are bastards? maybe, but there are worse thing out there and they aren't about to sit tight waiting for an ETI or the TITANS to return.

The most sadistic trans-humans are probably considering declaring war on the galaxy, in order to stop people from being so dependant of the Mass Relays and Mass Effect technology.

The Batarian Specter needs a last name.

And its pretty possible to expect Sheppard(s) are going to be present.

Also, one little nitpick about the Prothean Beacon, it was made in a way that Organics, and ONLY organics can receive the signal.

Lucky for our transhumanist friends that Shepard was present in a "plain" biomorph as he returned from a Citadel mission and received the signal.

He is however trying to avoid dying, in order to retain the visions and not risking loosing them if they are tampered with electronic equipment ( a real possibility of a defense against indoctrination)

It would mean that the transhumans would have a hard time reverse engineering Turian ships, ("It woooorks! WHY does it work? It shouldn't work!"), and would maintain their space-inferiority.

Alternately, would regular system-purges be a functional defense against TH infomorphs? (All I know about EP I learned from these threads.)

"The Transhumans! we gave them the latest weapons designs, minerals and an entire cache of Fornax. and don't get me started on the vault with the Ultra rare Hanar/quarian stuff. and what do they use to pay us? VIDS! FREAKING SPECULATIVE VIDS! "

"Well, boss.. I double checked the price of these things, and they are worth quite a lot on the Extranet. They even edited it so the protagonist can be of the race the viewer decides to see."

"This is all propaganda!, pure brainwashing crap to liquefy the Brains of our children. Just look at these absurd ideas!. Friendly A.I.s? HA!,"

" Machines that can disguise themselves as utilitarian vehicles? PREPOSTEROUS!, but scary..."

"And look at this! a machine that can grow to the size of a Galaxy!. This doesn't make ANY sense at all. It must be some sort of covert warfare I tell you"

    In the meantime

"Ghost 1 to Ghost 2: for the love of ... this dude is intolerable"

"Ghost 2 to Ghost 1: I know, I wish they didn't installed mic on the cases."

"Ghost 3 to all Ghosts: Reminds me of my third father in law"

"Ghost 4 to Ghost 3: Because of all the bitching?"

"Ghost 3 to all Ghosts: Nope, but he was also a 4 eyed ugly motherfucker."

    "Ghost 1: lol "

    "Ghost 2: lol :P"

    "Ghost 4: lol"

"Ghost 7: hai guise, r wii thar yet? ;_;"

"Ghost 1: this is going to be along trip."

Given the Th's familiarity with TITANs, Thumanity will be too preoccupied to get into a pissing match with the Citadel, and with Pandora Gates, the TEZ aren't a big deal either.
In fact the worse enemy of humans seemed to be other humans anyway even in the post-Fall era, the TEZ could be a convenient perimeter to contain internal Thuman troublemakers from starting shit elsewhere.
