I remember a time a time before steel, before fire, before humans, before life, before the Earth itself.

I remember when the first tendrils of chaos wound together and formed the first atom, when the first atoms joined together and formed molecules, when the first molecules joined together to create the elements you humans know.

I remember when the first sun sparked into life, when the first stars gathered together from the dust of the cosmos, when the first black hole was torn in the fabric of the universe.

I have watched galaxies spin together, watched them collide, saw them rip each other apart and dissolve back into the fabric of creation.

I have walked all the worlds of creation, seen new planets form, watched those planets develop life and flourish, laughing in the joys of life.

I have claimed all those worlds, was there for their last few moments of life, as their tired souls finally came free and returned to the ether from whence they came long, long ago.

I have outlived gods and demons, immortals were but flies to me, galaxies were but children compared to my age.

And now, there is but one planet left. Your planet, human. The planet Earth.

And you are the last. The last to die, the last to live, the last to breathe, the last to think, sleep, eat, love.

But before you draw your last breath, before I claim your soul and that of Earth, I can grant you one wish.

Speak now child, your time draws near.

Hyperspace cannot be collapsed, for it exists in a realm unbound. What I have done is close the endpoint of a single sector, replacing its natural mechanics with my own. Hyperspace, in all its infinity, could never be wielded by one such as me. The harnessing of but one infinitesmal part of that endless expanse has granted me immortality, so absolute that I have outlasted almost All that Is.

The Cosmic AC, in all its myriad variations, exists, as yet untouched by you or any other primal force. To tell me otherwise would be pointless, for I see. Into the depths of probability, where waves of That Which Could Be crash upon shores of That Which Must Be.

Unfortunately, sometimes those humans win, and the Claiming of a god sends waves throughout the fabric of the universe.

The Duty is the final thing That Must Be; it is the one certainty in a universe where immortals die.

The Duty does not permit you to feel emotions right? However, once you claim the Duty, you'll be free to do so I assume? If so, my wish is that when it's all said and done in the end and it's only you left, take the time to fondly remember Life. If you ever feel regret, don't beat yourself up too much over it.

Imagine how everything would be without your duty, without you, of an existence that was infinite, that could go one for ever and ever.

Of all the stars that would spark and sputter, the planets that would form and be smashed to dust.

Think of the tiny, but possible, chance of life that would come to some of them.

Those that have wished, will have their wishes granted. Duty calls.

    ------------------

So hey, this was fun. I actually meant this to be a story about a conversation between Death and the last human, but I got sidetracked when people actually started posting wishes. Was a fun thread, really got the imagination going and shit.

Also, I got to read The Last Question because of this, and new learnings are always good.

Alas, I must leave now /tg/, for Duty Claims me as well. Goodnight!

Warhammer40k was here, chess is weak.

Ironically, death doesn't play Necrons, but rather, Squats.

I rather enjoyed the thing with death and the curry guy.

"Maybe he'll go away if I don't look at him." "C'MOOOON, WE'LL GO BOWLING" "Shit!"
