>>8033229 A lot of little dice universally would imply a lot of (glancing) hits, which would be contrary to the "one hit, you're dead" playstyle of the games. Whatever the stat for 'toughness' on players is, it would be representative of the lives the player has; get hit, lose a life irrecoverably until you defeat the boss. Bosses would be able to take that level of punishment without batting an eye though, so perhaps d10 on collision with a bullet, players automatically lose a life on hit unless they interrupt with a bomb (no idea how to make that work), bosses take d6 damage.
Some kind of graze system where there's a reward for moving between bullets as frequently as possible, and a power level system to represent the [P]s a player has accumulated would also be a nice touch. The former would reward creative solutions to near-entrapment, while the latter would reward consecutive perfect victories. I can see the power system being easily worked into the d6 to bosses that I mentioned earlier, something like d6+power with a maximum of 10 power levels. |
