Glad you like it. I was just listening to a song, and it gave me an idea for a campaign where the world was in deadly serious, immediate and present danger, and saving it is up to the PCs.
Not that no one else is gonna give it a shot.
Imagine the young high priestess of Myria, Goddess of fertility, healing, and the life-giving waters. At the head of a column of ten thousand faithful, she marches toward the blaze. Anointed with holy water, her silk vestments clinging to her body, and joyfully leading the congregation in prayer, she marches into the flames. Miraculously, the fire parts and is forced away. Ash beneath their feet and certainty in their hearts, the flock marches forward, their hymns loud enough to drown out the roar of the inferno to their left and right.
The heat is drying the high priestess's robes. Soon, her skin is covered in ash, streaked with sweat.
The fire inches closer. The priestess prays louder, the hot air searing her lungs.
The congregation's singing falters, and takes on an edge of desperation. On the edge of the mob, someone is licked by fire, and screams.
Flame rushes in from all sides. In Myria's holy shrine, the Fountain of Life slows to a trickle and dies. |
