*And thus my first quest attempt begins. Enjoy.*

-You awaken in darkness, freezing cold. All you can hear is the groaning and creaking of what sounds like torn metal. A mechanical voice - near your ear maybe? It sounds like its in your head - speaks softly:

"System has been on emergency power for approximately 730261 days. Emergency Cryostasis Protection lifted."

Extended period of Cryostasis has caused 62% loss in Soft Memory Core. H.A.N.A. has been activated and thus should know who she is.

    Present location deemed unknown.

-You look/feel around in the darkness. You're in some sort of capsule, and you can make out the form of two handles on the inside. One is attached on the surface above your chest, and is rough to the touch - the other is to near your left hand and is cold and metallic. You also feel - wait, that's weird - you feel wires coming from your neck and back.

The sensor logs are bare of information - in conserving power to keep you preserved, the System must have disabled everything nonessential. The gyroscopes themselves are mechanical, and can operate without any external power source.

Power Source - On minimal usage, you probably have another month of power, but that's simply running your oxygen supply. A lot of power was used up to bring you out of cryostasis. Its no longer producing any heat through, and you're shivering.

Damage Control systems report hull breaches along compartments A through E - no connection evident to engineering section. Ship drives absent.
-Your ship must have been sliced in half. Wonderful.

Robotic Repair Drones are unaccounted for, so even if you could try to patch up your miniature Fission Power Source, you don't have the tools to do so.

    >>7425411
    Navigation:
Ship Drives Absent. System Navigation banks show that your last jump location was to a planet designated Thanela Prime, wherever that is.
    Sensors:
Whatever that had disturbed the System has not registered again on the gyroscopes.
    Power:
The Power Plant is damaged and leaking - at full power it will generate a lot of heat and light for about 10 minutes, but at the cost of ending your air cycling after that.

These handles in our reach... are there any buttons on them? Any give?

Can we see the corridor or whatever space is outside our capsule? If so, what do we see? I know there is no natural light, so try to use whatever light-giving apparatus in our capsule to shine outside.

Primary objective should be to restore power. Since engineering is on the other half of the ship, we can't go there. So we either need to create some kind of gyroscope-centered turbine to produce power, or we need to salvage. Perhaps from other capsules nearby?

Short of rubbing yourself to produce friction, there's not much else besides cranking up the power source.

    Tools/System:
Emergency Eject - according to the description, it will blow the explosive bolts around the hatch of the H.A.N.A. Capsule, freeing her in case of emergency. In order to activate, pull the switch at your left hand to sever the Electrical Umbilical, and then the switch above you to blow the hatch.

Power Overload - According to the thermal readout of the surrounding area, whatever is out there is pretty cold, and can exert pressure. Powering up the Reactor will produce enough heat and light to register like a flare on any Thermal Display. The downside is that oxygen will cease to be produced after those 10 minutes.

Feeling around the capsule again, you feel something soft above you, around the handle. Pushing on it harder produces a crackling noise, and a sudden greenish light. How nice of them to include a surface glow-stick.

You can see that the top handle is red, and the left handle is silver colored. Looking down at yourself, you see you are wearing a white, skin-tight flight suit with orange stripes down the sides. An ample covering, but not effective enough.

Agreed, we need the additional power to run our ship's systems.

When power is restored, boot up Sensors, get additional information about the environment at both a macro and micro level. If our section of the ship is open to water or space, close bulkheads and restore pressure/O2 while removing water (if necessary). Also utilize Navigation to get a macro idea of where we are and what's happened to us.

"Online Main Power Generator. 4 Minutes." You command to the icy air.

"Command Accepted." The small voice intones in your ear. "May the everlasting flower bring Spring once again."

You hear a rumble as the generator starts up, and a few intact lights outside kick on. You see through your viewport that you are indeed underwater, and that though your port opens to a metallic corridor, there is a gash right through the side of it. Something must have ripped your ship open like a tin can.

The heat that the generator created starts to stir the water around the wreck, and for once you are feeling heat creep back into your body.

After the 4 minutes, the generator winds down, and the heat starts to recede. You liked feeling warm too.

After we have scanned the environment and stabilized our section of the ship, check for anything to help us move this floating prison. Maybe we're lucky enough to have engines somewhere, but I doubt it. Still, if there are navigational jets used for course correction, perhaps we could kick those into overdrive and maneuver ourselves to a better position, either on the surface or elsewhere in space more agreeable to our needs.

    I second this idea.

But depending on the size of our half of ship, displacing the water could redistribute the weight of the ship enough to cause a roll, losing our oxygen. Then again, this could open up our corridor to the open air. And if the planet has breathable atmosphere.... we can begin to rebuild.

Your atrophied muscles scream out in protest as you realize how destructive "Emergency Cryostasis" really is.

Glancing through the tear in the wall you see bright floodlights illuminating the outside of the ship, and several groups of suited bipeds running around. The noise of the breach seems to have alarmed them.

In the elevator I look for the same neuro jacks that were in the pod. Hopefully i can reconnect and review the state of the ship now that it is at 100% power. If so, i ask the computer what is contained within the armory (i.e. armor, weapon styles, vehicles, medical etc) as well as check the status of the ships sensors. Do i have any optical, infared or thermal sensors back online? Are there any bulkheads i can shut between myself and the hostiles to slow their advance and guve myself time to prepare?

    >>7426771
You hit the button to open the elevator, and hit Crew/Armory level. With a shudder, the lift starts to shakily descend. Apparently it held up well to the salt water corrosion.

The doors open to view the crew corridor - there is nothing left on the right side of the room, just a shredded metal gap. The armor is further down on your left. Through the large gap you can see several bipeds just standing there, gaping at you. At least, you think they are staring.

You resign yourself to giving in to, well, whatever those things are. You're trembling all over with your sudden exertion anyway, it looks doubtful that you would have even been able to suit up, not counting making a shooting break for it.

You poke your head outside the elevator, and with a wave, say "Hey guys, what's up? Got any food? I'm starved."

The bipeds continue to gawk at you, but you can see more are coming to gather around the breached hull section. There is a lot of murmuring going on, but its not like you can understand any of it. You appeared to encounter another race, a strange race even we have not encountered before. They were hostile towards you, and a war broke out across the stars. It seems to have ended in your favor, but strangely enough, information from that time leads us to believe that your people were in mourning. There are no more further records after that."

Quietly you all assemble according to number across the room. It's painfully obvious who didn't make it, as some gaps in the line are three to five numbers wide. A white clad woman is moving around the line, followed closely by a floating camera - she must be a reporter. You can hear her talking to it - "Today is a day of great significance in the Terran Empire! For decades we have crossed the vastness of space with each ship needing at least twenty dedicated navigators and even more automated technology to manage the smallest details! But today we stand on the brink of a new Era, one where these brave women can guide us across the stars, one where we won't have to be afraid of untrustworthy AIs!"

Six handlers stepped forward, and motioned HANA 1-6 to begin. Without betraying any sign of nervousness, they entered their specialized pods.

"Final Test, Dreadnought "Prime" Simulation, ACTIVATE."
The Six H.A.N.A. each slightly jerked as they simultaneously linked into the system. Their eyes glazed over as they each sunk into their specialized role. "Navigation, Online. Weapons, Online. Power Management, Online. Defenses, Online. Communications, Online. Sensors, Online."
    Begin!
"Coordinates, accepted, JUMP!" "Sensors active, hostile detected!" "Weapons, Main Cannon to Bear!" "Power, routed to Main Cannon!" "Weapons, FIRE" "Sensors, Target Eliminated."

And so it went on, each H.A.N.A. intoning their commands as their Handlers beamed in front of the camera...

And suddenly, it was your turn, your Handler motioning you over to your lone Pod. Turning around to face the other H.A.N.A. you barely wince as the wires snake out and link to your spine. And suddenly, you're there, adrift in the sea of data, feeling the heartbeat of the ship, flying through the stars. They have you run through a couple basic tests, a few Jumps, a crash landing, and a few Fire Control tests. On all of them, you perform admirably.

With a sudden jerk, the switch is pulled, and your cables disconnect. The "Test" is over, you've passed. You can see 6 smiling from the line, she's alright. But something's amiss, you smell the sharp smell of burning ozone coming from your right - someone didn't make it.

Dreadnoughts are the Behemoths of the Terran Fleet. Single-handedly capable of sterilizing a planet. They are the peak of Humanity's destructive technology. Before the creation of the H.A.N.A. program, they had to have room for nearly 400 additional support staff. Although about half the size of a Colony Ship, one must remember that instead of carrying people, a Dreadnought is carrying pure weaponry.

You are present on one of Humanity's darkest days.
The ship you are flying is indeed the "Shushan", a highly advanced exploration vessel.

"Scanners." You command. "Angora Colony, Maximum Magnification."

You hear a gasp from the Command Bridge through the ship's audio. You're privy to most of its secrets, whether you like it or not.

"God, what's happening down there?" Someone cries. "What IS that?"

You snag a link into the live feed and have a look for yourself. You wish you hadn't. Over the colony hangs an organic looking ship, mottled red and brown and bulging with weird looking protrusions. An Alien race! Amazing. However, further magnification shows that the colonists below are twisting around, changing, obviously in pain. You can see their skin bulging, their faces changing, each one different from the next. What's happening to them?

"...HANA..." the Captain is obviously struggling for words. We would appreciate your input on what we should do - our Xenobiologist is quite confused. This is the first race we have ever encountered, and honestly, I'd like to wipe them off the face of this planet. You are trained to be logical, to make decisions on the life of this ship. I'll leave it to you what to do."

Before the comm cuts out, you hear the moaning of several distressed crew, "Oh God, those monsters..."

The "Shushan" is about the size of a Cruiser in the Terran Fleet, capable of high maneuverability when most of the power is devoted to engines and thrusters, and capable of a higher than average offensive power if power is devoted to the twin cannons. Average armor thickness can stand up to at least a single ion cannon blast, but any more of that risks overheating the ship's hull and boiling you all alive.

Up-linking to one of the automated cop cars, you drive it out to the nearest colonist and open the prisoner compartment hatch in the rear. Shooting out a sticky capture filament, you ensnare him and start to pull him towards the open bay. Surprisingly, he does not resist, and even moves to lift himself up into the bay.

The car drives off in the direction of the automated shuttle bay. The microphones inside the car pick up the sound of the man talking.

The organic particles are unlike anything the Xenobiologist has ever seen when you send him a sample. Apparently they are geared towards breaking down and rewriting a person's DNA itself.

Radio signals, ion particle pulses (sort of like sonar in space - can also be used as a form of Morse Code), Flashing Lights, Pinpoint laser communications... to name a few. Whatever is happening down there, its completely new.

To be honest, nuking them is on par with them mutating them. Everyone says sorry, big misunderstanding, it's never spoken of again.

I expect that the aliens will now be able to understand us, seeing as they have absorbed humans. Whether or not they are friendly remains to be seen.

The hive mind may be able to detect where it's members are, in which case sending them off to another planet is just planting a homing beacon for the aliens.

Put my old plan on hold, talk to the guy, ask if it is hivemind, if it is, ask wtf, these are our people. Don't hail the enemy ship directly, do it through the guy. Keep the police unit moving towards the shuttle bay.
