I got nothing, but we could always use more Eversor threads.

They're my favorite part of 40k, I just wish they'd make a game where you play one and cut the fuck out of people.

Or an Officio Assassinorum game, where you play all 4 major assassins. Vindicare would be like Sniper Elite, Callidus would be Splinter Cell w/ shapeshifting abilities, Eversor would be a gory hack and slash, and Culexus...well I dunno what they do exactly.

Ah well, a man can dream.

    Yeah, it would.

IN THE GRIM DARKNESS OF THE FAR FUTURE, THERE IS ONLY WAR. THIS SUMMER, [Game Company] AND GAMES WORKSHOP PUT YOU IN THE HANDS OF THE GALAXY'S DEADLIEST ASSASSINS.

VINDICARE: EXPERT SNIPER, ABLE TO TAKE THE WINGS OFF A FLY A MILE AWAY. USE YOUR EXPERT AIM AND SUPERIOR POSITIONS TO ASSASSINATE ENEMY COMMANDERS AND SOW DISARRAY IN YOUR ENEMIES.

CALLIDUS: MASTER OF STEALTH, SNEAK INTO THE MOST HEAVILY DEFENDED COMPOUNDS AND RIP OUT THE HEART OF THE ENEMY, ALL IN A FORM OF YOUR CHOOSING. (Author's note: Easy way to put in sex appeal and DAT ASS)

CULEXUS: CONTROL THE POWERS OF REALITY ITSELF, AND BEND IT TO YOUR WILL, HUNTING DOWN PSYKERS AND FLINGING THEM ABOUT AS THEY COWER BEFORE YOUR MIGHT.

EVERSOR: BERSERKER. WHEN SUBTLETY IS NO OPTION, SLAUGHTER ALL IN YOUR PATH. LEAVE A TRAIL OF DEATH IN DESTRUCTION SO MASSIVE, THAT NO MAN WOULD DARE ATTEMPT TO HUNT YOU DOWN.

    Multiplayer would be easy too.

Since XP and Leveling is all the rage now-a-days, assign points to 4 schools of play.

The Multiplayer (competitive) would be Temple training, aka fighting to the death. Co-op would be several assassins working together in their own campaign (or just the SP with Co-op)

    >everyone wants a 40k that's not marine-focused.

    Fixed.

It's sad because the setting has so much potential, and so much room to create some really interesting ideas, and yet all I ever see out of it is HURR GIANT MUSCLEDUDES WEARING HALF A TRUCK, SO AWESOME AND MANLY.

The power-armored space marine concept hasn't been unique to 40k for a long time. Halo has it. Gears of War has it. Doom has it. Starcraft has it. And while 40k may arguably have been the "original", it's simply not interesting anymore. 40k has so many characters that are much more interesting and much less overused, yet we never get to see them. I say, leave the powerarmored space marine to the newcomers like Halo and Gears of War, and let 40k give us things that only 40k can give. Things like psychotic religious fanatic warrior-women who set everything on fire yet are seen by the rest of humanity as beacons of light and hope. Things like shapeshifting assassins. Things like Terminator-ish robots except they were once living beings and still retain a fraction of their former souls. Things like space pirates that actually behave like pirates--hit, steal, and run--rather than the organized military pirates-in-name-only that we see in Metroid.

40k does not need Space Marines; in fact, they are arguably the LEAST interesting things in the setting.

They could also have a "Final Stand" mode or something a la Horde mode on Gears.

1 Assassin per player. Enemies come in waves. To prevent the Callidus from trolling the players and not doing anything and just hiding, some waves have psykers which will fuck the Callidus over and are immune to stealth trickery, making every other opponent know she's an assassin. It balances out since she can take on the big guys in 1 kill (preferably an animation so the others can get kills)

But anon! You ask. How do you balance the killing power of an Eversor with the rest? Simple. Everyone can bleed out and get picked back up, except the Eversor. When he hits 0, he explodes, no chance of pick up.
    >> Anonymous 12/19/10(Sun)11:01 No.13215829
    Shit.

An assasins game would be fuckyear awesome.

I'm manually thinking of a L4D map (the one where you get to the tank) but instead of regular dudes and zombies we have assassins and chaos up this bitch.

But that game would be easy to break with 4 evesors running around at full speed going "LOLWTFKEKEKEKEK" and just urinationg on everything.
Or 4 culexus assassins since they are blanks and as such scare the living fuck out of anything with psychic abilities and can even cause daemons to destabilize (not to mention that they are invisible to daemons)

    Vindicare:
Spy Mask: HUD which can see through walls and what not, as well as display whether the target has a forcefield etc. Which ties in with his special ammo.

Special Ammo: Shieldbreaker busts a target's forcefield, Turbo-penetrator can punch through cover and nail targets, Hellfire does heaps of damage.

Stealth Suit: Some kind of cloaking device? Codex Witchhunters doesn't really explain what it is exactly.

Indeed. Vindicare sits back and BOOM HEADSHOTS all day, which can be fun, then freak out when they get close.

Add in daemons in several waves and include aforementioned psykers, and Culexus shines during those, ripping through those tough enemies like tissue paper, and is able to slowly drain the life of groups of enemies that aren't psychically adept. (Aka groups of traitor guard or something)

I don't know about the Eversor exploding, because one stupid mistake and you're out for potentially a very long time, but there I think are other ways to balance it. Eversor should be the slowest and least agile, Vindicare could use explosive shot, etc.

    >>13215864
Nah, Eversors are freaking ninjas, all the assassins are.

Balance it out by allowing respawns each wave, again like Gears. It allows the Eversor to go batshit, but still have to be careful not to die.

Culexus and Vindicare both have good damage single shot weapons as well, i.e. the Exitus Pistol and the Culexus' nega-blasts. Vindicare wants to line up massive damage rifle shots though, whereas the Culexus gets huge damage bonuses to psykers and daemons. The life drain thing sounds good, he could also have a push type power where he forces everything back by unleashing his antipsychic aura.

Eversor has the only real rapidfire weapon with his bolt pistol, and he can poison with the needler too as an alt-fire mode. Maybe the Culexus could get a boost to firing speed when near psykers.

Even in fluff it's the fastest due to massive implants and drugs.

Speed range is: Vindicare > Culexus > Callidus > Evesor
Strenght (melee): Vindicare > Culexus > Callidus > Evesor

But then the evesor only has a lousy gun where vindicare has a fuckawesome sniper.

    That'd work.

Culexus would be something like .. A shotgun, I guess, with his brain blasts. Or like a space anti-wizard demoman.

Callidus.. Midranger? Strong but slow-to-charge melee, solid pistol skills-- can contribute to horde killing at range but best at gutting big ones.

Yeah, make the Culexus crowd control with a fear effect, ability to 'push' normal souls out of his aura and a shotgun like speculum blast that can hit more than one target.

Callidus has the Neural Shredder which can stun or kill in a flame radius, and can one-hit stuff she can get behind. Regular melee attack is fast and weak, but ignores armour. Probably needs a button to allow special dodges.

So Callidus and Vindicare would both be great at eliminating big things while Eversor and Culexus handle crowds in different ways.

I like it. Each would handle things sufficiently differently to be interesting and still contribute to the whole. Culexus Fearing a pack for the Eversor to mulch, for example, while the Vindicare distracts the Giant Mutant and/or mows down its controllers so the Callidus can backstab it.

And every few levels you can upgrade at your local tech priest. Things like more ammo in gun, more special ammo, longer range, faster reload and so forth.

or just go the old couterstrike, battlefield, halflife and what have you?

It could, be the Callidus' dodge should be special somehow to make up for the fragility and the need to get into melee to use their sneak attack special. Fluffwise, their polymorphine allows them to shape their bodies, explaining this preternatural agility even among assassins.

On that note, the Callidus would obviously have to have their 'blend in' ability which might make a special dodge redunant if it could be used instantly.

Well for single player, it'd be an objective-based "level ups." Do better on a mission, you unlock more shit.

For Competitive multi, do it like Call of Duty. Get tiny snips of XP from kills, combos, and shit like that. Like have achievements, but give them a grimdark name like "Assassin Protocols" or some shit.

Co-op (Final Stand and Regular) would be done at the end of the match, depending on how well you did. (FS would be numbers killed, what wave you were on, etc; and Co-op would be time completed the mission)

Single player upgrades are just that, upgrades and new weapons, nothing too spectacular.

Multi would be mainly abilities and wargear (Think Last Stand on DoW2) and customizable armour and weapons (No pot leaves, just more skulls, purity seals, cowls, shit like that)

    Levels!

Assassinating a rogue governor. Would start out deepstriking/infilitrating into the hive city, then working your way through his palace, until delivering a coup de grace.

Assassinating a Daemon Prince on his own planet. After killing him, the team detonates a anti-psyker weapon, kind of like the Culexus's tech, but on a thermonuclear-bomb scale, ending with the entire planet going boom.

Hmmm, perhaps single player could be split up into 5 chapters?

1 chapter where you play several missions as one assassin, and it segways into other chapter. Eventually it all comes together in the final chapter where you play each assassin in a few levels, leading up to the final mission where you get to pick (which is actually 4 missions on the same map, altered for each assassin's specialty).

I'm pretty sure you could fix that with some imaginary materials. Sure, the High Holy Cathedral of Eternal Purgification would fall down if it was made of ordinary concrete, but it's made of duro-arma-ceramo-plas-steel.

Mutant Rebellion on a Forge World, one segment where you have to infiltrate and bring down a Titan.

Planet half-fallen to Tyranids, you are dropped in the 'Nid zone with orders to bring down the controlling Hive Tyrant.

They could have a level in there for kicks where you play a guardsman for a while, using similar controls but more shooting in third person than ninjaing about. You have to HOLD THE BLOODY LINE while you wait for reinforcements. 5 minutes later, you switch to [ASSASSIN] and you do your duty and take out a key target. After each objective it goes back to the guardsman, and as your assassin progresses it gets easier and easier.

All to show how a single assassin can fuck up an army, making you, the player, feel even more badass.

    Vindicare missions:

A cult to a xenos war deity is being started in Gunmetal City. Inflitrate the city and eliminate the cult leader in the middle of the Gunmetal Bloodbowl arena.

A rogue noble is threatening to blow up a hive city if the Administratum doesn't listen to his demands. Disable all set explosives and eliminate the noble.

An Ork warboss has taken residence in an abandoned IG headquarters. Kill him without the other Orks finding out until it's too late.

A Tau Ethereal has been sighted in a xenos-infested fringe world. Eliminate it to demoralize the aliens before the IG is deployed.

It would be cooler if you'd just get a mission, and then you have to choose what assassin to send out. Some missions could be geared more towards certain assassins (for example, killing a rogue psyker would be easiest with a Culexus), but you could choose a different assassin if you wanted (for fun and/or extra challenge).

    Evesor.
    Spacehulk.
Can OH YEAH through most walls.
    Genestealers in the walls man.

    Final destination.

Oh and I would like to have the assassins die at the end of their chapters.
Especially the evesor since this dude doesn't acutally get trained. They just pump him full of drugs, strap some weapons and a bomb on him and point him in a general direction of where they need something killed.
IIRC they only live for so long before the drugs (who are poisonus) kills the poor guy and the bomb goes off

I think you're wrong. While their deathrate probably is high, they aren't one-time use only. They only explode upon death or if something goes wrong - there isn't a pre-determined timer for that.

Hmm, that might work, or how about have it divided into more chapters?

Aka Chapters 1-4 are the Tutorials, where you play each assassin to get a feel for them, and Chapters 5-? are the actual story, where you pick your assassin. (Picking the same assassin will make some missions hard as hell, but you'll have more upgrade points to spend on that assassin, unlocking more abilities.)

Yeah I read up on them on lexicanum. Seems I was wrong.

The Eversor Temple makes use of a number of combat drugs that make the assassin psychotically insane and push his bio-engineered body to the limit in order to better his performance on the battlefield. As such, these assassins possess a hyperactive immune system to counteract the toxins in the drugs they use.

    An Eversor Assassin in action.

The large amount of drugs and modification used to make the Eversor into an unstoppable killing machine are highly addictive and without them the assassin will surely die. This means that the assassins are completely addicted to death itself and the only way they can survive is by being placed in cryo-suspension

Vindicare Assasin looking through walls at Genestealers sneaking about.

Evasor BURSTS thorugh the walls screaming and firing.

Genestealers freak out and the broodlord is suddenly stabbed with a C'tan Phase Sword.

Incredibly no. They have no bombs in them. They *are*, however, dependent on levels of drugs and toxins that'd kill almost anyone else, have biology tuned to the extreme, and remain intact only thanks to their superhuman bioengineering. When you kill one, they can no longer control their biology and they essentially burst showering people nearby with drugs, acidic blood and whatnot- that's why they explode on death.

They don't have limited lifespans as such (and probably technically live for longer than many others), it's simply that after a relatively short amount of time they're severely affected by the various drugs they're on and become addicted to combat, so they get put in Cryo or some other storage between missions to prevent them flipping out on 3-month warp journeys.
