88 KB Zerg Quest XXII Cerebrate Anon 12/08/10(Wed)21:00 No.13082700
    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/12996357/

We have disabled Kingston's invasion craft, one of at least two that were recently sent toward our third wave of colonies on the edge of the Koprulu Sector. On board is a complement of buildings suitable for establishing bases on three worlds. Also, a large complement of troops to staff, be housed in, guard, and march from those bases. And from those bases, they will attack our vulnerable colonies.

The freighter is dead in space above a colony on a desert world which recently launched two of them. Near it are our Protoss and Terran aeronautical assets, waiting for orders. Aboard are a small number of Zerg units, in Engineering and the Cargo Bay.

Also, Nargil has developed a new strain of Zerg for us.

New Zerg do tell, SUPER LANDWORM. Also play summaries of the last 3 threads.

    T19 S1
CA: How goes things my comrades in science.
Nrg: We have made some headway in our understanding of the protoss physiology.
Lab: Indeed. Though at the moment we have only been able to strengthen the swarm a paltry amount.
CA: Not to distract you, but would it be possible to have a tunneling zerg?
Nrg: Hmm. Using an ultralisk as a base it wouldn't take particularly long to do.
Lab: I could be useful. We'll have it ready in a few hours.

    T19 S2
CA: Colonylord, how goes our expansion. Also, have you found a suitable world for a fallback location.
Col: Oh very well sir. And there is this planet called Yoshus. It has sizeable mineral deposits in the asteroid belt, and is fairly secluded.
CA: Good, it shall be our Alpha Site. Wait. No. That's a stupid name, and will undoubtedly bring bad luck. It shall be codenamed “Crystal Palace.”
Col: Why not just call it by its name?
CA: Perhaps Artisanlord is rubbing off on me.

    T19 S3
    Grn: We must attack AIUR!
CA: Now why do you say that?
    Grn: Because WE MUST!
War: Or, we could send an emitter into the debris cloud orbiting Aiur to reclaim some survivors.
Grn: WE NEED TO ATTACK THEM!
CA: This debate will have to wait, the dangerously clever Terran has a big announcement.

    T19 S4
CA: Kingston declared war on the First Born. This can only be good new.
Lab: I have more good news.
Nrg: We have discovered how to create a neurological structure that will enable our forces to create a psychic attack, provided they have a large enough brain. Nothing below a hydralisk I'm afraid.
CA: Wonderful. Make it standard on all of our strains. Would this interfere with an overlords control ability?
    Nrg: I don't believe so.
CA: Good. Hence fourth, all of our strains will be closer to Perfection as the Overmind wanted.
Lab: Except for zerglings, drones, larva, and broodlings.
CA: You know what I mean.
    >> TUCAMP 12/08/10(Wed)21:15 No.13082861
    T20 S1
War: The first of our forces from the colonies have arrived. With these I expect we could retake Aiur if we're careful.
Grn: We should just SMASH! GORN WANT SMASH!
    CA: I don't think it's the ri...
    Grn: SMASH!

    T20 S2
CA: Icarus. Such a shame you had to be glassed, but we couldn't let Kingston get any test subjects. In retrospect, storming the scanning stations was a bad idea, and we should have been paying more attention to it. What a disaster. We should check outlying Terran world with our scouts. Can't have Kingston thinking that the Protoss just happened to arrive and glass the planet once he ordered a full quarantine, that'd be suspicious, and he is wily. Throw in the edges of Protoss space too.
    >> TUCAMP 12/08/10(Wed)21:16 No.13082871
    T21 S1
    Grn: SMASH!
CA: Is he still going on about that?
War: Yes he is. But I'm pretty sure we could take on the Protoss in a fight.
    Grn: SMASH!
War: Actually, we could do it that way and win.
CA: I'll think about it. In the meantime, I think we should build a drydock around Yoshus. I would vastly increase our production speed for battlecrusiers and carriers. And... how can Accountbarate cry when he doesn't have any tear ducts?

    T21 S2
Artisanlord moves it's testicles in a controlled fashion.
CA: At least you remembered to tell me what you latest artistic language means.
    Artisanlord clicks its claws rhythmicly.
CA: An underground amusement park on Besilus! I'll have to take a look.
    >> TUCAMP 12/08/10(Wed)21:17 No.13082882
    T21 S3
    Nrg: Slight question.
CA: That's rare. You usually have answers.
Nrg: Anyway, I was looking at some of the indigenous life on some of our colonies and I found two that have potential. A creature with prehensile tusks that disguises itself as some of the local flora, and a worm that can transport its young. I can't decide which to start with.
CA: The landworm. And maybe we can also start a breeding program with some of our infested terrans.
Nrg: Why would we do that? The only remarkable thing about them is the trouble we've been having incorporating their DNA into the swarm.
CA: Yes, but we might be able to make a powerful psychic like Kerrigan, we might learn why it has been so hard to incorporate them, maybe it will help us in incorporating the Protoss. You never know.
Lab: I guess I could cut their gestation period from nine months down to six, but I also wonder as to the utility of this.
CA: It certainly will take generations of Terrans to yield any results, but I see no reason why we shouldn't.
    Lab: Very well.

    T21 S4
CA: One of out scouting parties was destroyed! SEND IN THE FLEET!
    War: What fleet?
    CA: Our fleet of course.
War: I mean: Protoss, Terran, or Zerg fleet?
CA: Carries and scouts, with Terran assets waiting just in case. Also, send in some overlords first.
    War: Consider it done.
War: What should we do with the freighter?
    CA: Seize it!
    War: And the planet?
CA: Planet? Oh right there's a planet there. Scan it!
War: Well, the planet was the site of an invasion force.
Itr: I have a bad feeling about this planet, it seem like I know it.
    CA: And why's that?
Col: By the Overmind, it's one of ours! It was in the third wave of colonies!
War: The freighter was carrying the makings of a military base.
CA: Sizable Terran forces in our space. Bugger.

Nargil has produced a great worm. It is produced from a drone, like a building. It is full of larvae. They squirm and it moves. When it stops, the larvae mutate, becoming eggs and then bursting forth from the worm's mouth, a torrent of Zerg. The worm shrivels, then, dying if it is not on the Creep.

It is like a mobile Hatchery. Nargil rests, tired from its labors. Labbrate is impressed.

Did our terran assets pick up any signal that was transmitted from the craft? Disable any comm array.

Get more units on the craft, start maiming, not killing and assimilating all that we can capture to get more intel.

Okay, well, now we have warning. Extrapolate from the size of the force here how many terrans were with them. Inform Warbrate that he is to build up a force capable of killing at least six times that many armed and battle-ready terrans, and keep it concealed but at the ready amongst our third wave worlds. If and when the terrans try to strike, we'll be ready and destroy their attack force.

Just what I hoped for. Tell Nargil that when he feels up to it, he has full permission to screw with that thing with the prehensile tusks. Also, I think it's time to contemplate how we're going to invade the planet. And only while writing the last 3 threads in play form did I notice your comment about the lack of Terran quest. I did start it later than I expected, and it was a complete flop. Then I tried again, and it was a flop. The consensus seemed to be that because it wasn't "You are a X what do you do?" it was bad.

But don't be sad Cerebrate Anon, Terran Quest was crap the fist time I tried it, no one came. The second time was slightly better, but it became a short Ghost Quest run by... Mojo I think. Warbrate tells us that without knowing which world Kingston is invading, it can't know what world to plan for. If we just want to make sure we have forces nearby, it suggests rallying at Yoshus. It is already fortified, after all, and the second wave is obviously closer to the third than Xenta.

Also, I vote to consider all Second Wave colonies as security compromised, and begin rallying forces at Yoshus to counter the impending invasion.
Colonylord, Citybrate, and Defensebrate are now ordered to select a Beta Site from within the Fourth Wave colonies. Since we are going to use Crystal Palace as a staging area and military rallying point to blunt and destroy Kingston's invasion force, we must create a new, and secret, escape route and emergency hiding place. All of this fighting will no doubt catch the attention of the Protoss.

Once we start infesting the crew of the freighter, perhaps we'll get some good intel on where they were going. They might not have been given the names of planets that they were being sent to, but perhaps they would have heard via military scuttlebutt what their offensive is targeting; either the Protoss or the Zerg.

Also, we should get an engineering and SCV team to the freighter and get it Warp Jump-ready again, so that we can bring this to either Xenta, Crystal Palace/Yoshus, or our Beta Site to help construct more Terran war machinery.

I’ve taken the liberty of sketching my interpretation of the fleshlings. They may have come out looking more bestial than Cerebrate Anon had intended and if so I apologize for crapping on your dream. I relied on the brief descriptions offered in the first few chapters of the quest, such as large eyes, two rows of teeth, and running as fast as an upgraded zergling.

For the running poses, read right to left, since I draw left handed.

After a bit of work, what's left of the freighter's troop complement is infested. In retrospect, only the Bridge crew needed to know where they were headed. The grunts just knew they were going to kill something. Somebody. Whichever.

The hatchworms are fantastic. Gorn rolls them right up to enemy embankments, disgorges their contents right onto the enemy, and leaves them behind as his troops wash over the planet's surface. It revels in the slaughter. We've never seen such excitement out of it.

Coincidentally defenselord started his mutation before we severed our connection with the overmind and is/was our oldest cerebrate. Defensebrate was overlords+spore colony, labrate was overlords+depot+infested terran, citybrate was overlords+hatchery, accountbrate was bunch of overlords, and warbrate was Warlods and Queen Elizabeth I. If I remember, I could check my play notes.

I don't like to forcefully countermand any of our fellow cerebrates, but I think that Gorn must be told, in no uncertain terms, that he must slow down his work temporarily so that Warbrate can capture high-ranking military officers for Infestation. We need that intel badly.

Might want to tell Nargil that if he wants to revive the Fenris brood that'd be fine, the manual only placed it at 5500 strong. Same with Gorn, 6000 strong the Baelrog brood was.

It's like slipping a blanket around a cat, only with your mind. Ok, perhaps that's not the best analogy. Gorn's thoughts aren't as small an fragile as a cat's. Perhaps it is more like wrestling.

We have to press, pull, and wrench control of each Zerg unit from Gorn's mind. It screams in rage at the loss of the slaughter. It threatens us and its mind thrashes about. Units near its physical form shudder. A drone seizes and begins hemorrhaging.

Our other cerebrates, especially Nargil, seem very disturbed. We have to ask Warbrate twice to capture its prisoners. It does so reluctantly. We infest them, and find that they knew little more than the soldiers on the freighter. They did have an estimate on the number of worlds the operation was planned to invade.

Should we convene all of our current 'Brates and hold an official meeting for our apology and explain ourselves?

After all, our Swarm is not going to be the same as the Overmind's. We thrive because of our Cerebrates' unique skillsets, perspectives, and creativity. While the majority of our Cerebrates are extensions of our mind, more or less, perhaps we should still make it clear that we're not here to dominate them or rule them, we are just here to coordinate and unite them. After all, we're all working toward a better Zergy future where every zergling can rove across the creep unmolested, and all the Kingstons and Seneschals are dead and/or infested inanimate monuments to pain.

This race is open to Bernie, Gorn, Warbrate, Nargil, and Labrate. Artisanlord will also get the exclusive right to interview the winner.

We wait patiently until Gorn has finished tearing the corpses of dead Terrans apart and feasting on them. It is very particular about it, as if it's some kind of ritual.

When it is done, we contact it, allowing the other cerebrates to listen. We apologize for our intervention, and we try to humbly explain why we did what we did. Gorn listens, and then acquiesces. It tells us that it understands, that it loses itself in combat, and that the Overmind would have done the same thing. It thanks us for allowing it to continue its work.

Nargil angrily interjects that we are NOT the Overmind, that we had no right to control one of its Cerebrates as if we were.

No, we are not the Overmind. But just because we are not, does not mean that we must allow potential advantages and victories for the Swarm to be lost!
    >Warbrate asks us if we intend to continue taking control of our cerebrates as if they were puppets to be danced on strings.
No, we are only a puppetmaster in the sense of a spymaster who coordinates events to his advantage. We do not wish to directly control any cerebrate; that's not how our Brood worked before, nor will it change in that regard in the future.

Nargil: No, we didn't have the right. We did it anyway because it had to be done.

Warbrate: The fact that you ask us that when we have yet to control you even once throughout our long association since you spawned is somewhat disconcerting. We have no need of puppets- but we DO have need of cerebrates who can work towards one anothers' goals as well as their own, and will take steps to see it done. Even at cost.

    Cerebrate Anon?

    Are you writing? or what?
    >> Cerebrate Anon 12/09/10(Thu)01:13 No.13085597
It takes time, but we convince our cerebrates to calm themselves. Nargil remains wary. Warbrate seems to be reacting to its fear of being controlled with resentment. Accountantbrate is working even more diligently than before. Gorn seems much more at home in our Swarm than it ever has, oddly enough. The others dealing with things on their own.

Still, none of them are refusing to work with us.

(And I'm gonna go to bed. Early morning. Earlier than it's supposed to be, because some of my coworkers have been retarded. Rawr)

    Good night Cerabrate Anon.
    Until next week.

By the way, are we going to pause for winter? or keep trucking through? I fear I will miss this on the 22nd.

Kerrigan was watching us take control of Gorn, wasn't she? We just confirmed her fears about us, didn't we?

of course. it was a trap by Kingston, we fell right into it.
Kerrigen was keeping tabs on us, and now is mobilizing to destroy us.

    We will be fine though.

Planning to just keep going. If work keeps doing this to me, though, I may need the break.

The planet? Possibly a deep observer. But there should have been anything close to the planet, as I don't recall recalling any of the overlords. If it was Kingston, screw him, were going to Zerg Amazing Race his ass.
