    >My first attempt at Quest-Threading. How it works: You suggest an action while rolling a d20 in the E-mail field, highest roll is what happens. If the action requires the use of a skill, stat, or random chance, roll 2d20 and the second number is your degree of success or failure(with stat and skill bonuses added). A total of 10 is the minimum for success on an average task (Easy-4, Average +0, Hard +4, HARDCORE +8). Hoping to go the "silly idea with awesome results" route. Let's do this shit...

    >Well, we have a winner!

You awaken to the sound of birds chirping past the bars on your window. Still groggy, you vaguely recall that today holds some significance. Then you look at the scratches you've made in the wall with the bit of iron you found years ago and remember; today is your birthday.

You stand up and walk across the stone-and-mortar room that is your entire world. The chain on your leg just barely allows you to reach every corner of the room, but stops you a few steps up the ancient stairs that lead to the only door. The morning sunlight streams through your window, glistening on the flour-dusted surface of your table.

Suddenly, the thick oak door slams open, crackling with the magical aftershock that heralds your master's presence.

"BAKER!" The Wizard shouts down at you. "I am now hungry. Make a pastry fit for me." He flicks one hand out of his voluminous black robes, and on your table suddenly appears everything you'd need to make The Wizard's favorite breakfast treats, and a small stove with firewood materializes next to the table.

The Wizard turns and leaves, and the door slams shut behind him. The *CLUNK* of the massive lock makes the room shake.

    >Also, what's a good time limit for posts? I'm sort of giving it 15-20 minutes then going with whoever's highest, is that fair?

Fed up with years of abuse, you grab the thick iron pin securing your chain to the wall and pull as hard as you can. It takes a few tries, but finally the ancient mortar gives way and you pull a small chunk of stone out of the wall.

Panting for breath, your eyes widen as your rage subsides and you realize that, for the first time in years, you are slightly less imprisoned than usual. Your mind slowly processes what will happen if The Wizard sees what you've done, and your eyes dart around your cell as you try to figure out how to avoid having your brain melted.

    >I'm gonna combine these two to save some time. No roll required for baking this post.

Having served at The Wizard's whims for most of your life you know his habits and that he'll take hours to return for his pastries, likely off performing arcane experiments or torturing other prisoners. Mulling it over in your mind, you decide you've crossed a threshold and must escape the cell.

As an act of revenge should you not survive, you quickly throw together a simple pastry but replace the liquid components with your piss and the chocolate filling with your own "special fudge." You leave the pastries to cool on the table and quickly bundle all your meager possessions and a little of the food The Wizard conjured into your apron.

Wrapping your chain around your arm, you slowly climb up the stairs, fearful some old enchantment will alert The Wizard that you've ascended higher than your chains should allow. At the top of the stairs you gently try the door, but the booming sound of the lock you heard earlier was not theatrical. The thick door is locked tight, and even with your considerable strength it'd be almost impossible for you to force it.

You look, for the first time, directly out your window and see the outside world. As best as you can tell, The Wizard's lair is in a hilly area, possibly near mountains. The ground, mostly barren but for some shrubs and gnarled trees, dips sharply downwards away from you. Some distance away, perhaps five miles, you see the shimmering blue reflection of the sky on a lake.

There are two crossed iron bars set into the stone of the window.

    >Strength+roll = 17. Another hard test succeeded. Well done, Baker!

You choose an area of the wall near the door where the mortar is cracked and flaking. Using the chunk of rock attached to your leg by the chain as a hammer, you pound at the stone, coughing and sneezing as the ancient mortar turns to dust and billows out from the wall.

You keep hitting the wall, stopping every few minutes to push at the stones to see if they've loosened, and when you are able to feel the stones move under your hands you take a few steps back then charge shoulder first into the wall.

The wall breaks, collapsing inward as you fall through. Standing up and dusting yourself off, you look around and see that you are in a circular stairwell so well-lit that there are no visible shadows, though you see no torches burning. You turn your head upwards and realize that all along you've been trapped at the bottom of an impossibly tall tower. High above you there is a single massive crystal set into the ceiling of the stairwell. Though it appears no larger than your fist from here, you're certain that if you were at the top of the staircase it would be at least fifty feet wide. It gives off an eldritch glow that somehow lights the entire stairwell.

Looking away from the exquisite crystal, you see that there is another door directly across the stairwell from your cell. You can see a dozen doors further up the stairs, though you guess that there are a thousand or more doorways lining the walls of the stairwell. You pick up your bundle of supplies...

You try the door immediately across from you, hoping it is an exit. The door opens easily, and inside you see a strange orange creature sitting on a wooden stool. The floor around it is covered in hay. There is nothing else in the room.

The creature tilts its furry head at you and chirps softly.

    >Aww...

Unsure what to make of the creature, you close the door. As you do so, it starts to chirp louder. You can hear it through the door as you start to climb the stairs. By the time you check the first door (which leads to an empty room), the chirping has become loud enough that it echos around you. By the time you check the second door (which has another of the creatures in it, which also begins to chirp at you) the noise is deafening.

By the time you open the third door the combined chirping of the two creatures is loud enough to be painful even with your hands pressed over your ears, and you are relieved to see this door leads into a hallway. You shut the door behind you, which lowers the volume of the creatures back down to cacophanous, and look around the hall.

It is wide but low, and made of the same old stone and mortar the entire tower seems built from. There is an old, chipped painting on the wall that depicts a tall, gleaming white tower; you assume it to be the one you're in. At the end of the hall is a large door made of some metal you can't identify.

Suddenly, the chirping stops. Your momentary relief is cut short when you hear the sound of reality being turned inside out, followed by a door being opened. And then, a shout from the stairwell behind you.

    "BAKER!"

His form begins to shake, shimmer, and fade away.

"I have never seen anything that could kill me. Today is your birthday, Baker - oh yes, I remembered - so as a gift I will let you leave this place. I will let you walk the earth you seem to miss so much. I will let you breath the fresh air, drink from pure rivers, sleep on the soft grass, and gaze upon the stars that I saw being born."

The Wizard's image is almost totally faded, only the twinkling lights in the darkness where his face should be remain.

"And in one year, on your next birthday, I will come to you. And I will give you the gift of a swift death. Unless you can, as you say, erase me from existence. I look forward to seeing what you have in store for me."

With a rush of wind, The Wizard vanishes. The strange metal door at the end of the hall opens, letting the light of day stream in. You pick up your pack and walk through the door. It closes behind you.

    You are free.

    >That's all I'm gonna do for tonight. I'll do another one tomorrow night sometime, if you want to get in on the continued adventures of The Wizard's Baker!

Eh, not gonna lie, it was kind of a rocky start, but there's potential. I think speeding up your posts would help a lot, at least until you've got more people reading it. Then you can afford to write longer posts and do more drawings.

But I liked it enough to put it on sup/tg/.

Also, I want our point to go into Baking. I have this ODD SUSPICION that at some point we're gonna need to bake something.

    Rollin' for Strength.

By God, we will PUNCH THE WIZARD TO DEATH.

Also, I like where it's going so far. Just keep at it, most Quests start out really slow, it really takes a lot of anons' contributing before it gets really fun.

I'm gonna bump one last time for any possible advice on How To Run a Quest Better.
