Look me boyo, HFY is about fiction and aliens and crap. We're talking about the real world here. Everyone knows that humans are basically inferior to the supernaturals in everything but numbers, (and some of the more retarded weaknesses), but our technology has developed at an astounding rate, giving us more of an edge than the supies know.

Right now, we can nullify 95% of the current classifications and replicated 75%, only 15% of which requires materials. Of course, everyone says that's all conspiracy theory bullshit, but they ignore the Ripper disappearances at the turn of the century, the Lycan cullings and the recent vanishing spectrals in England. It's all coming to a head, and soon the SRA will move on to a new group to track and replicate.

They've been thinking up ways to kill us since we first appeared. They've gotten exceedingly good at it. There is a way to kill every one of us, practically instantly, but it would pretty much obliterate the planet's surface as well.

This is for former humans. You can reliably take down werewolves, ghouls and vampires, then a true fae wanders by looks at you funny and you dissolve. This isn't even getting into extra-dimensional entities like the angelic host or the hellspawn.

Look, you're lucky. I had someone slip a pest control leaflet in my mailbox the other day. Called them up, they were pretty much targeting homonculi before the big UN vote on their status.

Not that I can blame them too much. When I was a kid, we had a brownie infestation something fierce - kept drinking our milk, stealing our clothes, etc. Eventually we got the exterminators in, and had that problem taken care of. But nooo, nowadays you need to hire a lawyer to try to convince them to leave - the cops can't do jack against 'em, and since they're people now, killing the little bastards gets you a jail sentence.

Then the SRA turns up, now I don't want to cause any trouble, so naturally I submit to the lawful authorities and register myself, explain my situation to them. So do you know what they did?

They kept my sword, said I needed a permit, had to be vetted to ensure I was in a stable state of mind to own a weapon that powerful. Meanwhile said eldritch horror is tearing its way across three states leaving nothing but death and desolation its wake, and I'm busy doing psyche evaluations at their head office. When I finally got the sword back, they'd put a tracking chip in it!

SRA clerk here. Seriously guys, you should register. It's for your own good. And before you guys go all 'Oh human specist bastard', I'm also 1/8 satyr and 1/6 river drake with minor natural psi.

Look, if you don't register, you're counted as a normal human, or nearest equivalent species for legalities, but your powers are still considered pretenatural abilities. So step out of line in the least, even by accident, and use of an unlicensed pretenatural device is slapped on to the charges, which, as you know, basically guarantees 4-5 fold increase in sentencing severity. On top of that, most countries require registration in order to be considered a citizen. So if you're an unregistered legal, you're now an illegal. Which strips away most of the protections the law affords. And if you're an illegal, well, a lot of countries still have witch hunting laws on the books - a lot of humans hate us, guys. So they can have a nice necktie party or whatever without any legal repercussions.

And that doesn't even include an inability to own land (unregistered dryad? Good luck hanging on to your tree) or other forms of property. Not to mention being able to petition for species-based exceptions in the work place (not being able to work by day or during a full moon, etc).

The SRA does all that for you, in addition to supplying you with legal counsel and various other supports. Even if the worst of the rumors were true, you'd still be better off registered.

I can imagine. Poor fucker signs up with the SRA, thinks that they'll actually help them out- the only thing I suspect the SRA really plans on doing is making use of the ones that actually have any skills of note, and simply tracking the rest.

Oh, sure, you're a criminal according to their laws, but I've never met a hunter worth their, um, proverbial salt who was actually bothered by that kind of status or didn't know how to get around it.

But you're heading to Arizona, huh? Haha, well. Mind if I ask whereabouts you are now, though? Just curious.

It's a racket, basically, and I'm not buying into it. If it was just registration, fine, but forcing folks into it, abusing the laws to get anyone who doesn't dance to their tune into trouble- I can't agree to that. Fossegrimen from this last little discussion here.

Like I said before, they need broader categories, especially when they just have some vague thing like 'troll'. I'm counted in two separate categories; in Scandinavia and some EU countries, I'm licensed under Fae, but the second the government sees that I'm a nature spirit from Scandinavia, I get slapped with the troll label faster than I care to think about.

Seriously, why the hell is the US at the forefront here? Half of them don't even know their lore properly, not to mention the undue restrictions. Thanks to new regulations that were forced through the UN by United States folks, I'm no longer allowed to record music because it falls under the category of 'Mind-Altering Substance', despite no linkage having been found between recordings of supernaturals and the traditional effects of their music.

Hey, there's not a damn chance of the side-effects. They proved that with that little controlled study done by UW-Seattle's Lore Studies group. Large enough random population exposed to direct versions which exerted effects, master recordings of the same song which exerted a minor effect, and a 2nd generation copy, which did nothing.

Yes, there is the risk that a master slips out somehow (though with the security the recording industry has now, I'm not even sure how that'd be possible) and some idiot decides to, I don't know, take a swim or go line dancing or something. It's still mass fear and paranoia that drove that law through, even though it is completely contrary to all evidence.

Besides, what's not to trust about us? I guarantee I'm probably the last living being who can play Geirr Tveitt's lost compositions, and that's a lost national treasure right there. We've got a wealth of knowledge that some of us might use to integrate a little better, and you deny us that.

What the hell am I supposed to do to integrate? It's my one skill. Can't sell lessons (falls under supernatural pacts, requires licensing I can't afford, not to mention my remote location), can't work a day job due to some physical ties and a lack of a 'modern education', and now I can't even give back culture. Real great idea, humans; tell us to integrate, then take away anything we could use to do it.

I end up dredging though the canals and find them in this little shack. I ended up having to bind the demon to a dime I had on hand and threw it in the canals. Apply for a Cultural Preservation loan. If not scores, then at least a greater picture than from before he died. I spend a good amount of time in Hardanger, and he was a wanderer. Ever wonder where some of the more marked changes in his work came from? A consequence of his walks in the wood, along with some good influences.

I don't know written music, however. Never understood it. I don't see why you need to take something as complex and varied as a man's voice and crudely nail it to paper. It fails to take into account the subtleties of the player's hand and the little flourishes that change from valley to valley. It kills the song and displays the corpse, if you ask me.

Traditionally, the pact demands three drops of blood. Usually from a lamb or whatever meal I'm getting, but the lunatics at the licensing board assume I'll use it to somehow claim a soul. Apparently, any use of blood at all in any sort of ritual labels it as "blood magic", and I doubt there's enough of a lobbying group to apply.

Licenses and permits aren't really the issue; they've just declared a blanket ban, barring specific studies into mind-altering substances performed by a university. Depends on the design, and the Leprechaun. I've heard tales of how some of their gifts work until a certain point, and then vanish when they're most needed, but as I said, those were, uh, tales. I haven't had much dealings with their folk, so I'm afraid I couldn't help you there- there is a possibility, though, that it could lead to trouble. Then again, given your line of work, something of that sort would not be new.

Luck is a funny thing, and generally comes with a price. The 'easiest' price attatched is an equal portion of bad luck, and it's sortof like an elastic band situation, where you can take little bits in one direction, but eventually it snaps back all at once.
Ditch it, or keep it locked away somewhere.

She didn't want it to though. So she cursed me two fold. Now I'm a class 3 immortal in that I can regenerate fully from any wound, including full disintegration, am ageless, and can still fully experience pain, and she removed my ability to fall in love with anyone except herself.

It's complicated, but in theory yes, giving it in good faith lets you get yourself away from it without repercussions.
Typically though, the person you're giving it to doesn't really have to be in more need though, it's anyone.

They'll probably just run you past a low level psi or hedge wizard to see if there's any magical components to your design (even if you think you're 100% tech, no accounting for temporal anomalies). Most likely, they'll give you a clean bill of health, and point you in the direction of some legal counsel that can help you out.

Y'see, so many supernaturals have such an allure for humans. The men, especially; when there's some easy condition to fulfill that nets you a hot, compliant bride, you'll always get a ton of skeezy bastards aiming for it. So, selkie skins are in high demand among a certain set of individuals who want some hot supernatural tail and don't want to work for it.

Speaking as a fossegrim who's had to watch far too many of his cousins go off seeking to marry humans, I can't say I get the allure of the idea. Then again, those huldre have always been a bit odd; they're just obsessed with getting souls, and never even bother to think what it'll do to them.

I'm all for having fun with your women, but I know I'm not going to breed true that way, and it's always been implicit that it's a one-time thing, barring any exceptional individuals. Then again, the story I have regarding that and my current distrust of some parts of the SRA and the government that owns my lands is entirely too long to get into.

Besides, so what if human women find some of us natural spirits irresistible? What would you have me do, stick to sleeping with other supernaturals? Do you even know what shows up in these woods?

I'm lucky if anything more than a few women pass by a year. Honestly, I miss the older reindeer drive routes, before you came up with 'protected supernatural lands' bullshit. Those Sámi women were just wonderful, and always willing to drop by.

I've got the archetype, son. Musician? Check. Nordic? Check. Sleep with the human women who pass by? Check.

Really, though, what I wouldn't give for some proper fae. It's a damn shame there's not a lot of other water spirits who pass up this way. I know some of the Irish spirits have a bit of fire, and I've got some fond memories of an Irishwoman who ended up getting lost in the woods near my home.

I'd hate to interrupt your debate on all living being's favourite past-time, but here's a story I heard from a friend a couple of days back.

So apparently, my friend's cousin knows a dark lord, let's name the lord Dave here. So, Dave had told the cousin what happened one day. He had been making slews of different magic rings because he was bored, and he was wondering what to do with them. Hell, Dave didn't even remember what all the rings did anymore.
So, one day he was sitting on his porch in full platemail, and his hick neighbour came to talk to his "favourite dark-in-a-good-way lord", asking if he could bestow him some power because the neighbour had always wanted to be a circus artist, you see. Dave being in a helpful mood, handed him a whole fucking pail of power rings, and gave the typical instructions on how to use them safely (wear only one per hand, all that stuff), and also said that he forgot what they did and while most couldn't cause any direct harm, the neighbour would still be safer testing the rings out on an open field with no other people around. Now, you can probably guess that dark lords don't always make perfectly smart decicions.
And five minutes later there was a huge magic-malfunction explosion. IN THE NEIGHBOUR'S BACKYARD

How fucked is Dave? The neigbour obviously was a complete idiot that shouldn't even be trusted with a BB gun, let alone dozens of magic rings, but Dave should've known better, too.

It's not so bad, really. The government wants to kill us all claims are exclamatory propaganda, there's a lot for society to gain from integration and in spite of a few vocal fools, it's what the mjaority wants.

I mean, shit man, Uncle Sam loves him some werewolves. You have to love a soldier who can fire 7.62x54mm like it was a .22LR, carry twice the ammunition and gear of a normal soldier, walk off gunshot wounds (well, the ones that don't kill nigh-instantly anyways) and smell an IED.

There's way too much to be gained from the supernatural community for them to wipe everyone out. Lycanthropic regeneration and vampiric postmortem existance has got the medical communities in a frenzy on how to derive benefits for the common man from that kind of innate property and so on.

That said, SRA needs some seriously better security. This has to be handled more securely than medical files and shit, man.

the silver bullet thing really knocks out a werewolf's superiority in warfare. It's a problem for little villages in romania to kill werewolves because they're little villages and can't get silver shit. You Yanks don't know how good you've got it with the SRA
And that goes for both sides.
For every country with no registration act there's another half dozen where being human means being nothing more than cattle.
My UN Inspection team walked into Vladistan before we invaded and seeing the breeding camps made me want to murder every single supernatural I met. I couldn't even be in the same room as my boss for a month simple because I was so close to hexing him on the spot when I found out what it had cost to get us in.
We're porting into the NK in 2011 to confirm some more rumors we've seen of enforced Lycanthropy. Protip people: If you can't feed a human you won't be able to feed a pack of obligate carnivores.

A "Vladistan" would more likely be a smoking crater rather than a human farm, after all the different factions of supernaturals and humans were done fighting over it.

My family's been avoiding SRA for years. It's not easy. We have a hard time breathing this dimension's non-ionized air molecules, so we have to black-market our respirators through "gate" smugglers. I know that if we registered with SRA, we'd get cheap, manufactured respirators that would keep us functional but weak enough to note be a "potential problem". We only ever had a problem back in the day, when our old model resps broke and your dimension wasn't up to our tech standards. Our cover gets blown because our lack of concentration makes us drop our disguise and then some frightened idiot villagers chase us around. Spring-heel Jack, indeed. That was my grandfather suffocating, you assholes.

Silver is expensive, hard to cast and it makes for shit bullets. It's harder than lead but softer than steel - which means it sucks shit at piercing armor but doesn't deform properly in flesh and usually punches right through.

Which means it's about as deadly as a werewolf as normal FMJ is to a human, and it makes for logistic issues - do you issue your soldier a lot of expensive silver ammunition that's shit against anything that isn't a wolf or do you issue him less of each kind?

Uncle Sam's under no delusion that werewolf (and other paranormal types) troopers are anywhere near invincible, but they make damn good heavy infantry - the Marines these days are really starting to embody that 'Devil Dogs' moniker of theirs, heheh.

You're completely free to register or not, but if you don't you are considered a non-entity and there are no laws or rights that protect you. This doesn't give you freedom to commit crimes unless the victims are also non entities.

Care to explain, then? I happily registered. Sure, I'm a very old man, with sorcery at my command. Sorcery that's actually pretty entertainingly horrible. I give full details of the depths and far reaching limits of my power. And the next morning I find a witch-hunter hit squad on my doorstep, carrying SRA issued weapons. Oh, sure, they weren't labelled as such, but they were all issued. You can tell. Not to mention that they were tailored to resist my strength - which they underestimated.

SRA is just an assassination clearing house. Supernatural too dangerous? Gut him. Useful? Use, then discard. Weak? Track until useful.

I was in a restaraunt the other day and some eastern European nohbdy was screaming at this zombie. Then he squirted eye acid at him.

Don't you tell me it's not possible, you dirty monocular.

my girlfriend has it the worst. i know succubi are "supposed" to seduce men all the time or whatever, but the ones above her apartment literally spend 99.9% of their lives seducing men. like, to the point that i'm certain they don't have any other goals or aspirations beyond seducing men and sucking out their souls all the time.

what's worse is that my gf has a basement apartment, which means these assholes are on the first floor - right next to the door to the place. whenever they have soul-consuming mass orgies (read: every night) there is ALWAYS spillover of random obnoxious victims (i sincerely doubt i've seen the same victims there twice) in the vestibule and on the front steps. since they're always soulless they never realize that they're BLOCKING the entrance/exit of the building and cannot comprehend that other people are living in the building at all.

this one dipshit tried to start a fight with me once when i was leaving.

Well, I may as well pitch in my two cents.

I'm a wizard of 64 years and a lich of 44. I spent twenty years of my life on the Vietnam War, and more on continuing service. For me, the SRA is a moot point- my information is on file for as long as I receive my pension. However, that is not to say it does not affect me. On the issue of individual rights I do not believe it should be mandatory, nor do I believe that registry should be discouraged. Much like having a medical condition, having such information can save lives in an emergency.

In short, I encourage registry but do not support the law behind it.

On an unrelated note, a good word for my werewolf pals. I was Army, then Ranger before I went SOF, and the werewolf platoons were some of the easiest to work with. They had a natural team ethos and easier to find than other therianthropes. Hooah, brothers.

She wasn't "cut open". Her eggs were removed and placed into incubation for her safety and theirs. She was weeks overdue for laying her eggs. Much longer and she could have lost them all along with the ability to reproduce. She might have even died.

I'm flattered, but no on all counts. I speak my mind when it is due. I did that whole “mystic theurge” thing back when I was young and stupid, but the truth is you can get a good sense of any professional mage by watching Burn Notice. Really. It's mostly just common sense, well-honed skills, and application of lateral thinking. That, and I'm old. I feel entitled to ramble on.

Also, I've rebuilt my fleshier bits. Well, not the internal organs... but my fingers are a little stiff right now because I have the AC down low. It's the little things that make you appreciate it.

    >>12987557
    I'm detecting a human trolling here. Everyone knows that the SRA is the world's largest employer of supernaturals. Most offices are between 30-80% supernatural, and no office doesn't have any. And hunter teams are usually half and half. So your butthurt about us being thin skinned human supremacists is fucking hilarious. Also;

Looks who's talking about prejudice. Because all humans are white, right? Or are you just shilling for the KKK's Grand Dragon?

    >>12987971
Sorry to hear that, man. I can tell you that it wasn't us, though. SRA teams only ever go after law-breakers, and then only when local law enforcement can't handle it (and given that most cops won't hire supers, that's a lot more than it should be). Most likely a bunch of hicks came by and tried to put the fear of god into you or some bullshit.

So far as I've heard. The rumor is that way back in the 20's, or maybe earlier, they got their hands on a dragon egg, and hatched out a full-fledged Ice Dragon, which they raised pretty much bathed in their beliefs. And now he's the oldest living member, as well as the one with the most charisma and power. Of course, he normally takes humaform for his telivision appearances, etc, but there's a reason when the old Grand Dragon died the new one started wearing suits instead of those robes. Of course, if he is a dragon, he's either unregistered or his file's sealed, so I can't confirm it.

Of course, I've also heard the rumor that he's decided to enhance the purity of his followers by adding himself to the bloodline, and giving of his own flesh so that they might have a fraction of his power, but that's sketchy at best.
