Let's face it: the Baldurs Gate II characters were fantastic. The Dragon Age characters are their successors and they are also fantastic. But also very nice to look at. :D

In Dragon Age, the seductress character wears a single pauldron and a shirt with a neckline that descends to her belly, exposing both cleavage and sideboob.

In Baldur's Gate 2, the seductress character wears heavy armor and constantly has on a hooded cloak (shown even in her portrait). Viconia still manages to be ten times hotter than Morrigan.

Viconia was certainly much better written. Even her blatant sexuality had a sort of air of desperation to it, using the one thing she had left in the absence of the power structure that had supported her as a Drow Cleric.

Morrigan was just a slut, Viconia was trying to survive.

they do not necessarily wear heavy armor/ rags respectively.

They do however have prominent similiarities. I played both games directly after another and this was something that was very obvious.

While they are comparable, they still manage to maintain rather complex personalities which are very different of another.

Viconia for example is deeply racist, Morrigan however is absolute indifferent to any race. Also they are both dominant and prefer a rather hard attitude towards others. Viconia again, wants to be opposed and demonstrated strength and leadership qualities, whereas Morrigan reacts best to gentlemen and kind gestures, which Viconia would probably interpret as weakness and submissive behaviour. At least in the early stages, before she is deeply in love with the protagonist.

They are of course very similiar, but nevertheless distinct personalities. And I loved both their stories.

I don't think you actually played the game. You are right about Viconia, but Morrigan has a pretty sinister reason for trying to bed you. She is trying to create a demon-baby cthulhu thing. Something to inevitably give her power, by trapping the soul of the Archdemon in her womb. She wasn't being a slut just because you were a big, strong man. She was using you the whole time and she makes it pretty clear that despite whatever feelings you may have for each other, she is ditching you and you will die if you try to follow her.

    >>12960333
No she doesn't, she scolds you for helping people unnecessarily throughout the game, but reacts well to being given stuff. The game practically begs you not to romance her.

Viconia's responses are actually weirdly both-ways, sometimes she reacts poorly to taking the most confrontational option.

Also, having Viconia and Jaheira is hilarious if the protagonist is a Half-Elf, since Viconia will go straight from insulting Jaheira for being a mongrel to flirting shamelessly with the Bhaalspawn.

I certainly saw her very conflicted at the end of origins and witch hunt. 'Tis true, she didn't want a simple, normal life, but is this a negative character trait in a fantasy setting?

This remind of a story my uncle Bobbin used to say, in between asking us if we were his mother. You see, uncle Bobbin was what you would call an opportunist, and he had his pry-bar and bucket of water with him at all times. He and his companions - the so called Alibi Gang - had a brilliant idea of cleaning out an old dungeon and turning it into a turnip cellar. What you may not know is that turnips require storage in places of death and dread and dungeons or traditional gnomish cellars are perfect for it. Not that there is much dread or death in a gnomish cellar, mind you - gnomes are known to be peaceful folk - it just so happens that they are apt to emulate similar effects through their connection to illusion magic. And, as I'm sure you know, turnips are not very intelligent creatures, they can't really discern illusion from reality. Anyway, uncle Bobbin and his friends started cleaning vigorously. Any old garbage they found they moved out. And, since there was pawn shop nearby and the Alibi Gang felt that a compensation for their good deed wouldn't hurt, they sold the useless crowns and jewels and other such trash. They knew that a long time ago a grumpy wizard decided to make his home underground in the very same dungeon they were cleaning, but they rationalized that since the mage was human, he must've surely perished from the old age. You see, old age is caused by build up of a very nasty miniature imps, that gather in dirty places, that is why your mother cleaned your house every week, and that is why gnomes do the same every day and live to such respectful old age. But I digress.
    >> Anonymous 11/28/10(Sun)18:18 No.12960474
    >>12960471
In the end, Bobbin and his men did find the mage and he was dead. What they didn't count on was that he was un-dead. And still grumpy, as they experienced when trying to gently untangle him from his magical trinkets. The wizard fancied his self by the name of Kangaxx the Demilich. Of course simple gnomes of my uncle's gang had no chance when the demilich yawned and promptly trapped all of their souls, leaving only Bobbin to altruistically gather all their belongings. Fortunately for my uncle, he was not only fleet of foot and hand, but also of wit. Before the demilich had a chance of annihilating him, Bobbin asked why, if demilich is more powerful than a lich, his name suggest that he is but a half of a lich. And before you can ripen a turnip Kangaxx was gone with a puff of paradox and uncle Bobbin was free to gather all of his gang's loot to finance a funeral. The moral of this story is that Baldur's Gate characters are clearly superior to your waifu, and gnomish cellars are built for a reason.

    >So I should use reaction images instead?

    Yes.

About the final fantasy bit, he probably meant how she has one pauldron, and an overall impractical outfit for being out on the road adventuring and fighting monsters. Her hair also looks like she's about to go to court, not slog through the mud. Her outfit seems more stylistic, rather generic-JRPG, than something you would wear to actually fight in, while Viconia has a hooded cloak and armor.

Personally, I think this is at least partially because one of them has realistic armor, and one does not.

GODBABY seems much more power-grabbing and ambitious than SURVIVAL. Especially since, once she has some power and friends looking out for her, Viconia stops whoring herself and starts commanding respect for her priestly magic instead. Morrigan, though, stays slutty forever. Viconia comes out of the situation feeling more legitimate, like she was a lot straighter with you instead of concocting some grand deception.

So? Yeah, Viconia's romance was more fulfilling romantically, but Morrigan's was never supposed to be. She warns you ahead of time that she's in this for herself, and your character makes a conscious choice, knowing that she's going to break his heart.

Morrigan never cared about your respect or anything, up until the very end. Morrigan admits she has feelings of love for you, but can't let it get in the way of whatever she has planned, (Which may or may not involve more than personal gain, it went unexplained).

Your character can even choose to deny her request and her plan fails, yet she sticks around and stays to fight the Archdemon with you. She leaves immediately after both situations, either because you have died fighting the Archdemon or because she has your darkspawn baby in tow.

Morrigan is more complicated than the thread has been giving her credit for. Her story just doesn't can't end on a high note, no matter what.

I think it is good that there are less NPCs to form a party with in Origins. While the variety in Baldurs Gate was good, because a wide range of characters to choose from added complexity, curiosity and was even necessary to some degree, because of the 6 member per party; the reduction of NPCs in DA:O allowed for more complex characters that allowed for more curiosity themself. I think this was a good step from Bioware, nobody would have wanted 3 dozen characters in DA:O to choose from, because they couldn't have been worked out this good, as they are now.

Fighter i guess, but you'll have a party of 6 anyway, so you're gonna have to put some effort into it either way. I'd recommend a triple multiclass so you get to choose which keep you want in BG2, plus in ToB you get so high level any penalties for being multiclass pretty much disappear. Elf Fighter/Thief/Mage can be pretty nasty, you can use the Staff of the Magi to become invisible at will, then go hide and backstab all day. I'm not sure if Cleric/Thief/Mage would be possible, but that'd be very nasty too.

Pure fighter or fighter/thief. Just rolls stats for a while until you get at least 87 totals.

    Stats go like this:

STR 18 (or 15 if you plan on using strength boosting items, I recommend 18 though)

    DEX 18

    CON 18

    INT 10

    WIS 10

    CHA 10

This is 84 points in total, but it's a power-gamer build, if you want to RP, mix things up a bit, I suggest keeping str and high though, con isn't THAT important, but having it helps.

At least in BG2 i always go for belts of giant strength, so i wouldn't worry too much about Str (also remember the Crom Faeyr), but i don't remember how hard belts of giant strength are to come by in BG1. Dex can be solved with bracers unless you're an Elf (then you could start with 19 which beats the bracers) or need something else in there.

Then you'd probably got 3 dozen half arsed and hastily written characters, of which every second one got a simple sidequest. Hoo-ray.

No, seriously, I wouldn't mind additional characters to the game, but I also think it is easier to work out a character on paper, give him 200 lines written dialogue and do the next one (which is the case with many characters in Baldurs Gate I and II) rather than voice-acting and and motion-captioning a character over the course of a game. You should understand that this costs time and money.

Well if you wanna talk metagaming, there's a book that raises STR by 1 permanently in BG1, as I am sure you well know. The thing is it Raises 18/00 and 18/13 to 19, and 19 beats the 18/00 from the gauntlets. So yeah. Also the gauntlets take up a valuable slot that can be better spent on Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise or some such.

Is it really so difficult to understand that mere text does not take so long to implement into a game (especially if it is rather little compared to other characters) than text and voice acting and motion captioning? And that these additional standards limit the number of recruitable NPCs somehow?

Clerics are different from mages, clerics are actually useful without offensive magic and healing magic is reasonably easy to figure out. The only real issue I ever had with the BG learning curve was mage vs mage combat, I usually just cheated myself some scrolls of immunity to magic and left it at that.

BG1 with a melee/ranged party and a cleric is perfectly do-able and not particularly complex.

She is also a blatant Mary Sue. Apart from her impossibly young age, particularly for a Chosen of TYR, she also has the entire party (Apart from the Canon love interests, who are characterised as vicious cruel, harpies compared to Saerileth's pure purity) worshipping the ground she walks on. She also follows the Lolful Stupid Paladin code, leaving you instantly if you so much as go against one of her whims. She leaves without returning the items she's wearing by the way.

    >Chloe grew up near Neverwinter in a small orphanage. She claims to be the bastard offspring of Akadia, goddess of air and speed of movement, and a mortal man. Though she has no proof of her heritage, her supernatural speed and skill certainly give it some credibility. Chloe is driven by some inner urge to improve her skills constantly, spending hours a day practicing whenever she can. You wonder how she manages to fight so well when most would be fatigued from this constant practice, but she simply gives you a friendly smile and says it's simply due to daily practice and not to her divine heritage. She feels a certain kinship to you and Imoen, due to your similar divine parentage.

If you finish ToB, she'll tell you not to become a god when you're offered the chance. It's not even a suggestion, she knows, absolutely KNOWS that you'll listen to her, because your love is perfect and true and all of that.

If you choose to become a god anyway, her personality completely breaks and then as you first action as a god, you disintegrate her.

Being the only canon romance option for females it's quite ironic that his name is pronounced "Ah no men". Kinda feels like when you first play NWN2 and the only romance option you get is terribad and it would be better with no romance at all.

But honestly, Anomen isn't THAT horrible, he's a young, arrogant and somewhat naive noble and acts the part. I think he's no less well-written than the rest of the cast. I agree that he can be hard to get along with as a person though.
