So /tg/ has this ever been done before?

Borg Cube finds and Ork Rok. Borg scan and find new lifeforms aboard it and send usual "resistance is futile message", the orks confused as to what these borg are, respond in the usual way: by ramming the rok into the cube. Large battle, Borg get slaughtered as borg drones do not have enough time to adapt to Ork solig slug weaponry and attack squigs. Orks loot cube. Borg ponder why Cube no longer responds to hails. Two cubes enter the system. They are greeted by a looted cube.

not a huge trek fan, but isn't the standard phaser a laser weapon? I'm pretty sure the borg got over that one fairly easily.

Not that it matters, Orks don't really fight with any regard for self preservation.
Although, I wouldn't think their blood-spores would do them any good as there's no soil on the cube for them to take root in.

I'll point out that the Borg make routine use of force fields within their ships to contain boarders.

Not like it'd matter much; the Borg cube would have been blown to bits had the Orks open fire; 40k ship yeilds are in the hundreds of gigatons to low teratons; Star Trek ships are in the tens to hundreds of megatons at best.

Trekkie Answer: They'll turn into Borg drones, and due to their increased combat effectiveness relative to other humanoids the encounter will likely spur the Collective to actively seek out Ork populations to assimilate.

40kid Answer: They overwhelm the Borg machinery with the throbbing power of their WAAA(n)GH energy and proceed to kick the Borg's teef in!

Seriously. At one point the Next Gen crew meets this low tech alien culture who brainwash them with some weirdly high tech mind control device to go fight their eternal rivals. The rivals were cruising around in shitty little ships that used lasers as their main armament. Picard and the bridge crew were all but snickering into their hands when Data or whoever the hell reported what they were being shot with.

I think I read somewhere in the fluff about a battle between the nids and the orks, and it described the conflict going all the way down to the genetic level as Ork cells aggressively attacked nid cells that were trying to assimilate or whatever it is that nids do.

I would think this would carry over to the borg. As the borg figure out how to assimilate one Ork, the rest biologically adapt to resist the assimilation, and the Borg have to start over.

You know, kinda like how the borg adapt.
Shit, this is shaping up to be an epic battle.

Simple. Ork rams into second cube. Takes over with same strategy. Turns to face remaining borg cube that was been both updating its information from the fighting and firing on the two melded cubes. Orks then take the Rok-double cube and ram it into last cube. At this point it no longer looks like a cube, more like from mutisided polygon that has no name. And it shall be called "Da biggest Ship Evah"

Marcius Flavius, first space marine in the Federation-Imperium Officer Exchange Program, stepped down from his position at tactical. "Understood. I shall endevour to do even better than Brother-Captain Picard."

Worf edges over to tactical, resuming his place. "Sir, what should we do? Should we fire on the Borg or the Klingons?"

Commander Flavius thought for a moment. The Bork were more immediately dangerous, *and* they kept flooding the subspace radio with RESISTANCE IZ FUTILE BUT FUN, but the Khornate Klingons would probably be more trouble in the long run.

"Target the Groch'tar and fire a full broadside!" He made a fist and stood up, just as Crusher and a medical team reached the bridge.

"... Do you mean a phaser or a photon torpedo?"

"... Just do both." He sat down, annoyed. "... Xenos." he whispered under his breath.

    "What was that?!"

compared to DA ORKS everyone in star trek is rational. It's not just that they go planet to planet starting fights. Races like that are a dime a dozen. They do all that with shit that shouldn't ever work- their shootaz should fall apart after firing a round but they don't, their stompas and wartrukks are horrendous heaps of scrap metal that should collapse into worthless junk, but actually are deadly armored units somehow. Their technology is downright bizarre and nonsensical yet it works surprisingly well. Not to mention their ability to loot seemingly anything regardless of condition and turn it into yet another bizarrely effective heap of metal with cannons jutting out all over.

I'm not that much of a trekkie admittedly, but when could the borg possibly have squared off against anyone so bizarrely effective?

The ork-spores are so hard to get rid of that nothing short of a full-on exterminatus is guaranteed, and even the Imperium is reluctant to use that.

I think, once you reach a certain point of technology, the problem become more one of how to stop the orks without having to cause massive, galactic-wide devastation rather than one of stopping them at all.

This is, of course, as opposed to the Borg's technology and tactics in their first appearance in "Q Who?", in which walking quickly in the Borg's direction prompted the drone to put up an automatic force field which threw Worf back about ten feet and physically assaulting the Borg would have been impossible.

The Borg got nerfed hard to give Starfleet a chance at actually putting up a fight.

You're all misunderstanding how the Borg adaptation works. In Star Trek every weapon is an energy weapon. The Borg adapt by making their personal sheilds able to absorb whatever frequency of energy is being fired at them.

The Orks, as far as I can tell, don't do energy. They do solid death. No amount of energy fluctuation will make a giant axe through the torso any less fatal.

This is a relevant point. We do come to the issues with boarding the cube, however. Forcefields to stop the orks, and metal to stop them from blowing it to smithereens.

I don't doubt hte orks would wind on land battle/invasion, but a boarding party? I'm skeptical.

As far as I remember, the Federation uses shields not only in combat, but also has constant weak shields around their ships against small rocks, space derbis etc.
This would mean that Star Trek shields are indeed able to stop kinetic impacts, and I guess if the Feds can make, the Borg can make it better, so the choppa argument is maybe not as strong as some might think.
    Just my 2 cent.
    >> Anonymous 11/16/10(Tue)20:16 No.12823486

If the shields are similar, then the orks simply have to hit the borg enough to short out the shields, and even then the shields couldn't stop torpedoes (I think).

They have navigational deflectors, but those are often forgotten for reasons of coolness. Like in the new Star Trek movie, when one of the Enterprise's nacelles gets scraped by a large piece of debris.

Not so certain about the torpedoes, but concerning the Orks hammering the shields - why would the Borg just sit there and take it? They got some rather powerful weapons themselves - not to mention their tractor beams.

They have a navigational deflector, which projects a forcefield in front of the ship to push debris out of the way, and then a structural integrity field which holds the ship together under the stresses of impulse and warp travel. Both of which are routinely amped up in the clutch when extra protection is needed.

Seriously, the feds are second only to the orks as far as making things work by needing them to.

As far as the star trek combat games have gone, shields actually do a really good job of deflecting torps. You have to wear down shields with phasers, and then nail the unprotected ship with a torpedo for the kill.

Depends on what version of Borg we're talking about. When originally seen, they used a cutting beam to harvest a chunk of the Enterprise without difficulty, and their cube actually visibly healed itself within a couple of seconds of being struck by a torpedo- though those torpedos did make enormous holes in its structure. Also, drones could just teleport onto the Enterprise whenever, take people with them, fuck with the computers, basically anything. They were stronger than Worf and immune to phasers after being hit... once, I think?

They got weaker with nearly every appearance after that.

The big difference is that Star Trek folks, when confronted with a situation where (x) doesn't work, do something else.

Orks are likely to try a lot more (x) first. They're like liberals in that sense.

The Borg aren't really all THAT creative when it comes to technological adaptation. They're confronted with something, it works a few times, they do something, it stops working. The first Borg is still plenty dead.

That works fine against the rational, who aren't likely to come in guns blazing immediately. But coming in guns blazing is what Orks DO. It's entirely possible that the first Rok to confront the first Cube will have rammed and disgorged boarders before the Borg are done looking at each other and thinking "wtf?"

Also, the Borg would have a hell of a time purely existing in 40K; "we are made of science with which we constantly tinker" is the same as saying "we would very much like to be raped by demons, soon".

Yeah. But at least it gave me a bit of inspiration n shit. Mind you, i still know DICK about star trek.

    ===

For the first time in the two centuries spent as a Battle Brother Marcius Flavius felt depressed. His will and resolve were strong even when boarding the infamous khornate cruiser Bronze Axe, when he fought the unending wave of greenskins on Armageddon, and even when he was ambushed by a Lictor with no other weapons than his ceramite-clad fists. This world was strange, alien, and only the intense hypnotic indoctrination held his mind together.

Captain Picard was not happy. Far from it.
"Marcius, that WAS a Cardassian Ambassador and his troupe."
"I WAS INSTRUCTED THAT WE ARE NOW AT WAR WITH THE XENOS WITH RIDGES ON THEIR FACES."
"That's the Klingons Marcius, not the Cardassians"
"THEY STILL HAVE RIDGES, I THOUGHT THEY WERE A BOARDING PARTY."
"For god's sake, people were shouting at you to stop"
"FOR ALL I KNOW THEY COULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN HOSTAGE, MIND CONTROLLED OR STUPID. I ONLY LISTEN TO THE CAPTAIN'S ORDERS."
"*I* was shouting at you too!"
    [COUGH]
"Is that how a Space Marine of your universe should conduct? Imagine how your superiors would react if you shot an alien ambasador in the head vaporising it, and then kicked the headless corpse in the chest so strong that it left a dent in the wall!"

Captain Picard recoiled in a mixture of terror and surprise. Nothing sounds like a giggle amplified by Astartes power armor.
