    Hey, guess who?

Advice general, and does anyone want to hear what happened since last week?

It's only been two sessions (the normal) since, but it was a fairly pivotal moment where we ended off.

Well basically, I've been playing a game with a "that girl" type personage who's allot smarter than anyone else in the group and basically calls the shots even though she doesn't even DM that much.

So I've been coming to /tg/ for advice on what to do and how to outsmart her, such as to get perfect revenge.

So far there have been ups and downs, a (at least some people regard) varyingly interesting narrative. And all the opinions and advice garnered from these threads have been a large help to me and how I do things in the game.

This is of course, only one of the games our group plays and "that girl" is dominating, but this one in particular I felt I needed to pull something amazing out of the bag in retaliation, and have been using /tg/'s advice to accumulate that.

The last two threads, in order have been; I met with the gypsy travelers who picked me up and the mystic with them, made some arrangements and returned to civilization.

Then the next thread was about the two weeks I hadn't posted in which a number of games occurred, and basically how I got back some reputation and money with Police work. However in visiting my family, "that girl" was there waiting, having made my family fall in love with her, and seeking to induce the fear of God in me for taking up an investigation on her past crimes.

Ok, I'll start with what happened, hopefully activity will pick up as time progresses. Also, this time around I wrote some out beforehand. So it will be posted faster, although some of it may seem a bit dry, not many details.

    ---

So last we left off, most everyone had gone to bed, and my guy was in his room with the lights on, under the pretext of working. I was too paranoid to go to sleep for obvious reasons, so I used the chance to get some work done. Basically just police paperwork, and more importantly going over the details of the case against "that girl"; seeing if I missed anything and getting it more in order.

I really hope you have a chunk of this typed up beforehand so I don't have to read it until the wee hours of the night.

So tell us what happened - I did not have a gaming session this week and I'm missing the one next week, so I need my fix.

After awhile I had to periodically make checks to see if I fell asleep though, and eventually I failed it. Not too bad though, and I sort of dozed off but jolted awake awhile later. No sign of "that girl", I figured if she hadn't come by now, she wasn't coming at all. So stashing everything in my bag, I clamored over to the bed and went to sleep.

I was awakened an unknown amount of time later by the soft sound of gears turning.

I couldn't find the candle (moved for some reason), and the light switch was too far away, but the room was well lit enough by the moon to see in the dim light. Looking around, I located the source of the sound, "that girl" sitting in a chair in the corner. She had been silent while watching me sleep, but her augmentations eventually gave her away. Unexpectedly though, she was in her underwear, as it was described. I guess either she had been to bed already, or was ready to go to bed, before she snuck over here.

I didn't say anything, so after awhile she broke the silence, and it was a decidedly unnerving conversation.

She asked "Do you hate me?", I told her I hated what she had become. She told me before, she could do nothing for the world, now she could save it. She said the Outsider had inspired her, and she asked "What if I could become what the Outsider was, but as a force for good?"

I asked her if killing her former friends was her way of saving the world. She said at the time, revenge was all she could think about. She shouldn't have fallen prey to something so petty, but out of it she realized that she could truly become a force for good in the world.

That was how the silence was broken btw, after awhile she just simply asked "Do you hate me?"

    ---

I asked her then, if her description of good was killing what was left of us, as well as violating and killing a young boy. To this she stammered, and said it was her greatest mistake. At the time she thought her actions would allow her to perform the greatest good, and grant the power to do so. That the others of the group chose to stop her, killing them was a necessary evil that at the time she thought she would enjoy, but regretted having to perform.

I asked what of the Prince? She said that was what she regretted most. Nothing she could ever do would rectify what she did to that child. And because of it whenever she looked at her son, she was filled with a deep, bitter hatred. Only now did she realize that it was not him that she hated, but herself.

Through and through, what she had become and the things she had done were a necessary sacrifice, but one she did not cherish. She said she had hoped to bring peace and happiness to the world, but only now did she realize all she had brought was suffering and all she had found was a hatred of herself. At the end of the road that there was nothing for her, and no one by her side. If wishes could be made, then she would have wished a thousand times over to take it all back. She knew she could never make amends, even if they were what she sought most.

And so she asked, though she could not truly make amends, would I at least forgive her? If so, together we could save the world, OUR OWN way.

I too greatly considered this, but after much deliberation, setting aside that she may be lying to me and any number of other ruses or tricks, I believe that it was a cop out for the other players.

A decidedly noble cop out, but a cop out nonetheless.

Plus, it's not like she'd just rescind her order like *that*.

    ---

And so it was my bit, and it was very simple. She betrayed us, she killed her friends, she killed my friends, and here I was because of her, because of some percieved notion of doing good. She was right. Even if she saved the world, it would never make up for the things she had done. She was nothing but evil, and against that I would be an anathema to all she did and all she was.

She didn't like that one bit.

    As a little aside;

This conversation was quite meaningful, perhaps the most for my character. This was the first time "that girl" had genuinely shown regret for her actions and acknowledged her mistakes. It hit her hard, and progressively through the conversation she got more emotional and by the end was crying. Not some big weepfest to wake everyone up, but shaking and holding her face and other manner of anguish.

For the first time since the old days, she seemed like an actual person, that lively girl serving as the groups rogue, whom we made the mistake of casting out.

First, expect that if she leaves you alive right now it will be for metagame reasons. Because in-game, there's absolutely nothing preventing her from killing you and disposing of the body, and nobody would ever know what had happened.

Second, after reading some of the details of previous threads, I have to ask an important question: are the stars right? Because there's one very obvious reason I can think of why Captain Nemo and his other hypertech pals are spending most of their time dealing with a situation in the South Pacific...

Before I go on to describe the scene, I'll point out that it wasn't intended to be sexual, even if it comes off that way. It's just something her character has done in the past for skill reasons, and here again simply as something she does.

    ---

At my response, she looked up shaking, to see my expression, a serious one obviously. Either out of anger, or to make doubly sure, she got up and walked over.

Clamoring onto the bed (the whole frame creaking under her weight), she straddled my character, leaning over him with arms on both sides of his head to look him in the eyes.

*(Again, this is something of a habit of hers, cornering people up close when conversing something serious. It played into a skill she had, where she had a chance of detecting if people or creatures were lying or what their motive may be. By now, it was just sort of a habit.)

Well at first I had thought she wasn't killing me and my family, because she simply thought threatening me would be enough to get me off her tail. But now I have realized it's because she wants me to join her.

However, it has (at least she said) remained clear from the start that at the very least, if I leave her alone she'll not kill me. According to her, she doesn't want to kill people when she doesn't have to. Which, setting group characters aside, she hasn't actually killed anyone except her husband.

As for the stars thing, I'm not sure what you mean. All I know, is that Nemo and the inventors while trying to create their "haven" somewhere in South Pacific, encountered some threat, and have been struggling against it since.

Whatever it is, must be quite a big deal, if it's holding them up. Events like the Outsider defecting to the other side haven't helped them I'm sure.

    >You should still get a Stand.

    Not sure what that means.

And anyway, while the short kill would have been easier, I feel it's kind of my job to provide at least some kind of semblance of an interesting threat for her and the group, as she did with us. If I just killed her right away, if it was even possible, it'd be quite a letdown for the others who are expecting something of me.

That said, I'm not stepping up to the challenge because of that, but it's sort of complicated. I'm sorry if that's hard to understand, it's sort of a thing you have to be there for.

Javert was awesome even in death. Killing himself because he couldn't deal with being saved by the very man who he has sworn to capture, and then letting him go to save the life of another man.

If he had captured Jean Val Jean in the sewers, Marius would have died and Javert would have 'fallen' in a sense. Oh hey, the author forced him into a 'fall' or 'fall' situation. How come I just realized that now...

Okay, here's my SUPER TERRIBLE rough art. I can draw a BIT, but I really didn't want to haul up my scanner so I did this in Paint.Net with my tablet. Kept the sketch lines so there's some dimension.

This Stand is named The Police, since most Stands are named after bands or songs. I added a big professional inspector hat to emphasize the connection. Its power is to force people to re-enact any scene the user can recreate from notes, testimony, or what he actually sees. The people forced to re-enact this scene do so for thirty minutes after they are marked by The Police. During that time, the marked only has access to the abilities the person he or she is forced to re-enact had at the time. The only way to disrupt the otherwise perfect re-enaction is to throw something in the way or disrupt the routine somehow, though normal force can't stop a re-enactment.

I realize that very easily she could just crush me or break my neck or any manner of stuff, given where we are. "That's how you really feel about me, isn't it? I know I can never make up for... for everything, I can never say sorry enough... but do you really hate me?"

    It took a minute to collect my thoughts, but my response was clear, and free of stammers, broken breathing and tears, unlike her response;

I once knew a woman, high spirited and kind hearted. We helped people, and did many good things together. But something happened to her, as my greatest regret something I couldn't help her with, and she died. And now as I looked at the monster before me, I saw nothing of the woman I once called friend.

To this I'm guessing it was like a knife in the ribs, because she drew in a sharp, strained breath, and it was clear she was hurt. In response she just layed down on my guy, in an odd sort of hug, crying fully now into his shoulder.

As a policeman, you are privvy to tons of info about crime scenes, murder streaks, etc. With The Police, all you would need to do is research the scene, re-enact it in your mind, then set up the right conditions. If you are alone with the girl, nothing can stop you from re-enacting, say, a murder case where the killer strangled a girl, knifed her in the ribs, and tossed her in the middle of a lake surrounded by thick trees and brush. The important part is that she'll never see this coming - once The Police marks her, she'll have no way out unless someone interferes with you, maybe by throwing a log in your way at a crucial moment. Each Stand has a drawback...but she doesn't need to know that.

You know the best part about Stands? They require little to develop. Normally you can develop one as a teenager with high spirit potential, but there are...other ways.

There's something in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure called the Stand Arrow. Those who survive getting nicked by this are bestowed the power of their own Stand. With more drawbacks built into The Police, this could be a legitimate in-game artifact that will allow you to gain this power.

I know, quite something to see a murderer, a terrorist, a rapist, someone as powerful as to be damn-near guiding Europe on her whims, reduced to a crying mess looking for forgiveness.

I suppose in this sense, despite her being as strong as she is and I as weak as I am, through simple endurance and words I defeated her. And as a result, I was spending time with the woman from those years ago.

Damn, I said this was an important scene. I bet the other players are highly jelly.

    >>12789943

Actually, here's a notion. To further balance The Police, you could rule that the re-enaction is only as good as the research poured into it. For example, a scene you witness clear as crystal has the highest chance of re-enacting properly. Things you have to recreate, however, will have spots where you don't know what happens, however minute. This could give a smart opponent a chance to break out of the loop for a second and strike back in some way before the re-enactment continues.

Anyway so, she basically went on about how despite everything, she was at least apt to accomplish what she had always wanted, and become a force for good. Nothing could ever make up for what she did, but she could follow her ambition and bring peace and happiness to the world. She didn't care if history remembered her name, but if she could leave the world in a better state than when she found it, then she could at least think better of herself.

In this she confessed that she could not bring herself to kill me, there was nothing she wanted less in the world. However, not her empire, not her power or her ambitions, but if I got in the way of her path of repentance, then she'd let my death be the last and worst evil she ever committed, and sooner kill herself than descend any further.

"I am a monster, and I cannot change that. But I can at least change the world so that I will be the last of my kind."

And with that, she helped herself off, moving to stand by the door as she opened it. I asked her if she cared of my opinion, she said she couldn't make my decision for me. She would know where I stood eventually, and from there react accordingly.

I asked what she was going to do now, and she said she might as well get to bed. She's got an early start tomorrow, so the longer the better. It always takes her a long time to remove all her augmentations anyway. I asked her what she meant, she said she couldn't sleep with her robotics, lest she injure herself in her sleep.

Before apologizing for keeping me up, she told me that there wasn't anything wrong with the new wheelchair, and it really was just a gift. Then she said goodnight and shut the door. I heard the thump of her leg as she went to her room, then nothing much after that.

Second, learn this spell or gain a item with this enchantment: Fuck Technology. It should be EASY AS SHIT as far as magic goes. Remind your DM that:
    1. Magic and tech are anathema of each other. All your spell would need to do is funnel unfocused magic into her bionics to wreak havok.
    2. Its easier to break a vase than it is to make one. Seriously, fucking up something with hundrers of moving parts, a gear/linkage assembly cappable of fine muscle responce is just BEGGING to get fucked up. The more complex the machine, the more that can go wrong.

Disarmed Policeman, what you need most of all is your spine to be fixed. What you need to do is find a powerful fae, demon, or even a god, and make yourself a contract with them. That contract is that in ten years (up for negotiation, but don't agree to go below five) you will plunge Europe, no... the world into a war that will have surpassed all others. Despite everything everyone has said, and all the suggestions and everything else, from the perspective of someone playing the game, it's pretty much clear that magic is a dying breed.

Even if I become some amazing magic mage, the way things are going, the force of magic in the world will be gone within a generation.

Unless I do something extremely radical, it looks to die out save for limited and secret enclaves.

For this reason, it's understandable how I can use and learn magic, but actually building a magic alliance/empire would be near impossible. Again, save for something huge.

I think you need to drop a nuke or a nuke-equivalent on her, and fuck this shit. She's a Mary Sue, albeit a "complex" Mary Sue. She's got Reactive Attachment Disorder and is clearly a megalomaniacal sociopath-- tl;dr psychobabble: Remorselessly manipulative sociopath who needs to be put down as quickly and brutally as possible. No more playing her games. Ignore the drama and kill her in the most pragmatic way you can. It strikes me that this player is also manipulative, an attention whore, egomaniacal, and possibly sociopathic in real life-- I say this for the way in which she has drawn out the game and centered the entire campaign around herself somehow. She fucking MONOPOLIZES your games.

A small fraction of me even suspects that Disarmed Policeman is the "that girl" because he constantly calls her intelligent and describes her actions in extreme detail, and speaks of her with some obsessive admiration. It's bizarre, absolutely bizarre to me that DP glosses over a lot of his own motivations for not killing her, gives super-thin/weak reasons for why this player has been allowed to do this, seems to understand her motivations better than his own/often describes her actions/behavior in more depth than his own. I cannot see WHY the other players have allowed this idiocy to continue, let their characters be killed off constantly by this girl, etc, etc., etc. The excuse that they all are just really hard-core roleplayers seems thin to me, here. It just seems weird. Part of me wonders if the OP is actually the "that girl" who comes to /tg/ as Disarmed Policeman/the guy who plays her arch-nemesis/foil, to gain insight into her foil's head and cover all of her bases.

Whatever the case, I would have no fun in this drama club and would try to kill off this character as quickly as possible.

Isn't a 'last stand' enough of a motivation? Throughout the world, alone each group of magic-users are not strong enough to defy their oppressors. But if they work together...
Of course, you'll need to get smart for this to work, and pretty much become the king of diplomacy, as each group probably still has their own feuds to deal with.
The only advantage is that if I understand correctly, is that everyone would underestimate the magic-users, thinking the true conflict is between Europe and Nemo. If you play your cards right, like maybe have near-simultaneous revolts across the world, you could blindside everyone.
...But then again, from what I've seen you might not be up to such a task.

    Stupid is relative.
You saw this opportunity and you would have to be stupid not to act on it.

With that said, I appreciate all this. Its an awesome read and something I would like to see in story mode even if I wrote it from the ground up.
You have something often forgotten about in a game, and that's character development, which is far superior to leveling. I always got to these threads late so Its nice to finally catch up with you.

    However, pic related.
In the grand scheme of things, the Germans were a force to be reckoned with, with them having started both world wars and all, so it would be nice to mirror them somehow. Grand goals and somewhat misunderstood view and all. However, I see her as the more Hitler-esque character. Lets take a look at another side of the whole thing, and I am talking about their occult. They used machinery to a heavy extent but (supposedly) used the occult for various things. Future telling, scribing or many other things that technology wouldn't touch but can be taken advantage of. And if whatever is keeping nemo at bay is troubling the nemo-tech, think of what it could do for you. Wroth an investigation.

I want to sum up 'that girl' and her vision.
From what you said, remorse is convenient when its convenient, but when its a goal, whats more convenient is its success.
I don't see her as a remorseful person, I still see her as manipulative. She is looking for your button and I wanted to remind you that she is trying to win before the fight begins.

She a) manipulates. From the get go she did what she could to make sure that her goals, not anyone else's, succeeded.
She b) turned her self focused vengeance as an opportunity to push you aside, your friends, and anyone else in the way, for her goals. Her personal goals are not candy coated for one purpose, justifying her actions thus far, because if she wins its all justified isn't it.

You c) are the more righteous man. Your sin is trying to stop hers when she didn't see it for what it was. You can do what she cannot, stop the injustice of ill gained successes from stomping out those who do not think her way is right.

Envision her removing the last vestibule of peace so her vision can be obtained and ask yourself, is it moral?
As a minor point, will the Gypsies go peacefully, or will she have to kill them?

    Explosive equivalent or force equivalent?

I believe if like all the mages in Europe gathered they could perform a spell that would blow up and kill everything ever, in a city-sized spanse or more.

Or just like a million billion tonnes of TNT could do something similar I suppose.

Otherwise, in terms of force displays only the Outsider has shown levels of that kind of destruction.

    ---

Then again, there's alternative options that don't involve such shows of force. Like the legendary magic spell of the famed mage Ursus, Transmute Air to Bear with recurring effect.

This is completely outta my own ass:

If she wants to make sure that "there will be no more monsters like me in the world", then here's some (original) bullshit to throw at the DM.

Work with Nemo to create the Unending Knot/Final Binding, the power of said ritual being that the subject of said ritual will become the Archetype of their persona, binding together the Ideal and the Real parts of humanity she represents or represents through herself in one vessel, and so she will eventually the Sole Symbol in the entire world.

As those in the world like her die through mortal means, those aspects of humanity will be contained in her for all eternity.
Should the binding be broken, she would then be able to die, and those Aspects would be a part of humanity once again, or she could Ascend and become god-like, and those parts would be again spread back throughout humanity.

This sort of bullshit is something she will absolutely fall for, if she is as Mary-Sueish as you say.

She wants to atone? She wants to change the world? Pass this idea off to the DM, see what he thinks, and then present it to "that girl" during your next big confrontation.

(feel free to call it stupid. Like i said, this is pure bullshit i just made up.)

I've been in social work and I've seen enough to know you don't put up with this kind of shit; some people will do anything to be the center of attention/gain any attention they can. Negative or positive, it doesn't matter, it's all much preferable to being ignored, to them. Generally my policy is simply to walk away/not respond to such people and their drama, but this is a case where his character obviously can't walk away from hers, because she won't let him. No one knows for sure, the inventors have been very hush-hush on the matter.

All we know is that while constructing their nation in the South Pacific area, they encountered a threat and have been fiercely struggling against it since.

Whether it's revolution in their ranks, some geological/climate anomaly, or an actual force (as some people suggested, possibly Cthulu), we can't be sure.

All we know of the "threat" comes from the Outsider, a former inventor who threw in her lot with the opposing side, and because of it gained vast, vast amounts of magical power, on top of her sizable potion of advanced tech.

DP would never know because "that girl" would deny it, either because she never heard of the place or because it's easier to lie and let DP keep spilling the campaign beans all over the board. Even so, DP can't mention it to her, because it may prompt her to come here and look through

...A good one? If you pay attention, none of the actual players, including Disarmed Policeman, are mad at her. And it seems like the various gms aren't going to hamper his endeavors, if anything they seem willing to give him just as much leeway as that girl did.
She's someone who's been corrupted by her 'ends justified the means' philosophy, and allowed herself to let vengeance and cruelty corrupt her. It's not original, but it's not the Mary-Sue you seem to think she is.
Again, if they're telling an interesting and employable story with this campaign, why so mad?

She was preaching a worldwide return to magic, but not the typical sorcery and mystic magic, hence why she fought them too.

She was favorable of the old ways, natural magic of the earth and it's creatures.

When she was captured, I'm not sure how the English were able to/have been able to keep her restrained, but they kept her alive to get information out of her.

The combination of her being an inventor and also the most powerful mage in living memory, makes her perhaps the most valuable prisoner/item in the world currently. For England, she's their way to greatness.

Does Disarmed Policeman come across any better? He didn't accept the responsibility of DMing because he felt he wasn't up to the task, and he's asking -us- advice on what to do. And yet I haven't seen any indication that they are unwilling to give his character the same amount of leeway if he's willing to make the effort. From what I've seen she's a pretty good roleplayer and intelligent to boot. It's just that the character she's playing is a manipulative, borderline-sociopathic bitch.
Also, she's evil but not the BBEG, seeing as she has the party on her side.

Disarmed Policeman is currently the only PC opposing her. She's -a- villain, certainly, but not the BBEG. She's currently the party leader remember? Also, you seem to be implying that she could have gotten where she is in spite of other characters (Disarmed Policeman included) thinking she shouldn't. The reason she was able to become such a big mover and shaker is because the DMs found it more interesting than what they had going on earlier, which iirc was just 'eradicate the last traces of magic as the world stands on the precipice of war'.

I had a 2nd part of my post, but my field was too long (skipping the part about "that girl" posting here)

"That girl" may have had respect for DP once, but she sees that in a battle of wits, he is for all intent purposes unarmed, and needs to come to /tg/ for help on how to role-play this out.
I know you hate me for saying this, DP, I know all of you anons and other namefags are hating me too (or not, like I give a fuck), but believe me when I say not only is she manipulating you, but she is essentially offering you the chance to be her pawn, lest she crushes you underfoot on her way to conquest. My advice: consider how badly you wish to keep playing this game? If you wish not to anymore, be killed by her. If you truly wish to keep playing, take her offer (although it may very well be to late for that now). These are your only two options that I see being within your role-playing and mental capabilities.

I'm not sure what you mean by that, but basically history has happened as it would up until about 5-10 years ago, since Nemo started showing up. Since then, because of Nemo and the arms race, things have more or less stagnated and actual historical events haven't been occurring (up to the players to make history) unless we actually pursue them or look into things that would cause them to happen.

The world is in sort of a stasis, so that the setting doesn't change too much for us, unless we set about changing it ourselves.

    Does that answer your question?

    >>12790887 here. Took longer then I thought.

First thing’s first. A quick bullet point of what needs to happen before you go after her.

    You need power.
You need to identify your mole.
You need to disrupt her power.
You need to separate her from her cronies (other party members).
You need a major power on your side.

Now, I’m not sure if your character is going to be inclined to do what I’ve got planned. Some of it’s pretty sneaky and/or downright dirty. But vengeance is a bitch: to both parties. If you’re not willing to or are able to be deceptive or break a few eggs, then this isn’t for you.

I meant how well do the DMs know their stuff, like do they know their history about the various global relations that were occurring at the time.
Also, historical events have started to stagnate thanks to Nemo? Unless the players intervene? That's good. That's very good. That means that each PC is a catalyst. Illora's player took advantage of that and now it's your turn. Be the match to spark a war, and light the flames of revolution. ...If you will be traveling the world, don't just seek out magic users, but philosophers as well. You need to wise up both IC and OOC, and that seems an easy way to do so.
That reminds me, what's going on with the other PCs, now that Illora ditched them to mess with you?

Step 1. Power. You’re not going to get anywhere as just being a crippled policeman. There’s too much of a gap in political swing, money, and status.

Get started gathering wealth. You can use that to buy both the political power and status you need later on. Invest in factories or something? Make sure whatever you do is something inconspicuous though. God help you if she finds out you’ve come into possession of a weapons factory or five. Keep gathering wealth, and keep expanding. If you can, make sure you set up as many jobs or whatever into Spain. She’ll be suspicious, but if you make sure everything’s on the up and up, she won’t have any reason to actually go after you. Also, buy a newspaper in Spain, and have it suck up to her as much as possible. This'll be important later.

Use the money to become a philanthropist – establish charities, safehouses, whatever. Build up your reputation. Try and make her believe that you’re going after the same goal, but you’re going to do it your own way, on your own terms. A parallel force, as I said.

    >> Anonymous 11/14/10(Sun)03:00 No.12791784
    >>12791748

Step 2. Disinformation. You can do this step whenever you want to honestly. It’s probably not any of the Roma, so it should be a police officer, and most likely, a high ranking one at that. As soon as you figure out who he is, keep feeding him information. Feed him good info, feed him bad info. Doesn’t matter. If you do feed him bad info, make sure it’s something fairly easy to uncover, and not harmful to her. Whatever you do, don’t let him you know, and don’t let her you know. Also, assume everyone’s a spy. Best to assume the worst case scenario with her – any surprises will be pleasant ones, then. Paranoia is your friend, until it stabs you in the back.

I can’t stress enough how much deception is going to be critical in this and all phases. Throw out as many red herrings as you can – the best way to hide your actions from someone who’s smart is to give them too much information.

Sometimes a pretty rock is a magical gem, ready to grant you your every wish. Sometimes it’s an entirely new element, something that can be used as a new energy source and usher in a brand new age. And sometimes, it’s just a god damn rock. Throw a bunch of rocks out, vaguely disguise them, and let her try and figure it out.

    >> Anonymous 11/14/10(Sun)03:06 No.12791847
    >>12791784

Step 3 and 4 can be done at once, really. At least in this plan. First, I’d set up a research facility or something near her base of power – I’d say in a city with a military base along the French/Spanish border. Have it work on something harmless, but make the facility itself as secretive and suspicious as possible – hire professional security, whatever you need to. Just make sure that it’s easier to get into then it is to get out. I suggest a prosthetic limbs research center. Leak word that it’s working on revolutionary new “arms”. So, by now, it’s fairly obvious we want them to go after it and get caught, but why?

For one, it’s a Spanish ruler sending a personal team into a French city. Best case scenario, she’s also with the group when they go in. That’s going to be some major political problems, even if she gets away scott free. Throw in the fact that it’s a hostile act against you, gives you reason to pull your companies out of Spain. Maybe you feel that your work there is threatened or whatever. End result is a massive loss of jobs, which your newspaper will be quick to jump onto. Turn them into friggin’ Fox News, and let them loose on her.

If they don’t get caught, there will at least be a number of witnesses to identify them. If the party gets caught, see if they break out. If they don’t, then arrange for them to be broken out secretly. Once they’re out, they’ll have little options – either stay and be hunted, or head back to safety of their protector. However, if she’s smart, she’ll turn them away. If not, she’s going to have a damn good explanation why she’s consorting with what amounts to terrorists, and your newspaper is going to spin the hell out of it. It’s a win-win situation.

End result is a political and economic shitstorm of biblical proportions. Let her deal with that as the ruler of Spain. Also, I believe she won’t openly counter, as it’ll be seen as disgruntled ruler takes revenge on well known philanthropist for her own embarrassing actions.

As for the rest… well, it’s late so I’ll give you the basics.

You then fake your death (ideally in a way to implicate her). Go to Russia, and pull a Rasputin. Basically become a Russian Doctor Doom.

Just wonderin'...does ANYONE think DP's character (Markus) has any way to achieve his retributive vengeance, or should he just give in. Because I think DP should just give in. Markus is in too deep and, by DP's actions, has really no trump card to fall back on that wouldn't be DM fiat. Perhaps this is because it's 2am out here, and I'm tired, but I can't think of a way for Markus to avenge the fallen. I don' think it's possible...

Honestly? From what I've seen, Illora was in more or less the same boat and her player didn't have the success handed to her. The only thing stopping Markus is his competence. If DP has Markus go somewhere Illora would be hard-pressed to track him down, I definitely think that he could defeat her. After all, in the setting the world is at a standstill, its up to the PCs (including Markus) to get things moving.
    >> Anonymous 11/14/10(Sun)03:30 No.12792046

Maybe I didn't explain it well enough. I'd want her to know I'm doing good in the world. Just not how she's doing it. I figure as long as I'm not openly opposing her, she shouldn't have a problem since I am contributing to her overall plan.

The deception comes in the fact that I do supposedly suspicious things, but all end up harmless. Grab a warehouse in the docks; store goods in it. Turns out it's really stuff for the poor. Buy a house downtown, and shady characters come in and out all the time - it's a halfway house.

By the time it's time to set her up, she'll probably gotten so tired of checking every suspicious thing we've done that it'll probably get waved off as a just another false alarm until it's too late.

Again, this relies on too many variables to likely be practical though.

No matter what we tell him, if DP can't trust himself to make the right decisions, then even if he takes (his interpretation of) the broad-stroke advice we've given him DP's gonna slip up on some niggling detail and it may as well be like he never tried. Because, for all intent purposes, it will be like he never did. Not the guy you quoted but I completely agree with you. I said in prior threads that it would be more realistic if he just gave up and faded away because neither character or player are up to the task. But you'll have to admit that for the purpose of entertainment (our's and the group's) a quest for retribution is fine, too.

Personally I'd like to see the path of taking up some magic to heal his spine and then breaking out the outsider and joining up with the force that troubles Nemo. It would get DP away from the whole scheming/political thing at which he simply isn't good and would probably make for a more fun adventure/narrative.
    >> Anonymous 11/14/10(Sun)05:36 No.12793012

While I agree with breaking out the Outsider, that's more of a mid-to-end game scenario, seeing as someone as powerful as her is still imprisoned (also technically he should spend a couple sessions gathering information before making the attempt).
Regarding Illora, I'd say an important question for Markus to ask (with some subtlety) is if Illora thinks she is done compromising her morals, or if she's still willing to do terrible things for her cause. Because if she starts listening to her conscience, ironically that hurts Markus's chances at revenge.
Also, it'd be a good idea at some point for Markus to narrow his retribution to what Illora has done (and will do) to others, instead of focusing on what Illora has done to him. Because... there's pretty much a straight-up cause and effect between the two.

I forgot to mention this earlier but, if the thing that's troubling Nemo is Cthulhu, I'd say teaming up with it is a no-no (especially since it'd be an unfavorable comparison to South Park).
Also regarding Markus, I'd just think that it would be the ultimate insult if, by the time he has his final battle with Illora, he reveals that this stopped being about her a while ago, and became what she stands for. That while his own hatred started this, ultimately it grew to be bigger than just the two of them.
Oh, and to really twist the knife? Give her a chance to surrender/stand down first.

Sorry for slow response, was out drinking so only just saw the thread.

Disarmed Policeman, you now have a new goal.

You must still destroy her. She is an ethically void monster with no conception of right or wrong, her every word is a deception (would she really do this shit after crippling you and leaving you to die? No, she's mindfucking you).

But now you must destroy her without destroying her name. Let her 'good' deeds live on, just not her.

So you must offer her a choice. Her life, or her legacy.

Honestly, I'm not certain you have the quick witted nature necessary to carry a scheme like this off, but for the sake of the story you need to try.

Abandon your current life. Get all the files you can from your work (both things related and unrelated to what you want, just to make sure she can't find out your goal through checking) and go to the gypsies. Tell them the entirity of the plan from the start. You NEED them on side, since you NEED them to fix you up so you can act as needed.

Through a quick Analysis of your That Girl, she is many things, but the primary one is VAIN. She is enormously vain. She has soldiers, but she does her own leg-work. She HAS to have the party on side believing she is a good person. She HAS to have you not-quite hating her.

She is very, very vain. This is her weakness.
    >> Anonymous 11/14/10(Sun)06:36 No.12793447
    >>12793429
Put out feelers in the gypsy community. You need to know your ex-groups current activities. More importantly, you need to know what SHE is doing with them. No doubt in my mind she has some kind of association with them. She NEEDS them to view her as some kind of wonderful person, she has to have them view her positively.

Your first step is to destroy that. Make sure they have access to any evidence you can scrounge up about what she did to the prince. Leave them a note saying "don't confront her, she can crush you all. Just never, ever, believe her."

From what you've said, your group isn't subtle enough to play it off well, and That Girl is arrogant enough to investigate. How will she react when she knows the group suspects? She will react badly, since it is one of the first times she is genuinely, truly not in control

Of course, it's best not to get ahead of ourselves, as Markus hasn't gotten anywhere close to that point just yet.
Here's my rough plan for success
a: Seek out communities likely to practice magic, in an effort to go below Illara's radar.
b: See how the communities are persecuted and discriminated against due to the Euro-centric Imperialist paradigm
c: Possibly with the help of some philosophers, -care- that said communities are persecuted and discriminated against
d: Help community out, gain their trust and possibly a magical boon or two
e: Realize that for freedom to flourish, there must be a revolution
f: Travel the world to different colonies repeating steps b through d
g: Once your resolve is hardened enough, and you care more about 'Justice for all' instead of 'Revenge for you' gamble your soul that your revolution will succeed, in exchange for arcane might
h: Visit Britain, gather intelligence about Celtic persecution etc and details about the Outsider's imprisonment
i: Free the Outsider (bonus points if it's on the 5th of November) and ally yourself with her
j: Increase tensions between Nemo and Illara's Europe
k: Viva la Revolution! Have there be simultaneous uprisings across the world, while you also attack Europe directly
l: Fight your final battle with Illara as the city (doesn't matter which) burns behind you
    >> Anonymous 11/14/10(Sun)06:39 No.12793462
    >>12793447
With that in place, your next goal is your primary one. You need to put her in a situation where she is offered the chance to either keep her life, or her good work. By this point you will have hopefully been improving your power base (if not, there is no help for you).

    Now, you start a war.

Have people slaughter an enemy of her people and leave behind a body dressed in the colours of her household. She will have two options.

    1. Deny any involvement in the attack. It will be seen as denial by the entire government and work to create instability, excatly what she doesn't want.
    2. Admit to it and claim sole responsibility. Her son will still create stability, but she will be out of the picture.

Of course, she will still be alive. But then you will know if she truly wants to do the right thing, or if she is in it for personal gain.

If she chose to deny it, destroy her. Manufacture evidence that she was the only person involved in the activity. Fake a messenger going through enemy territory carrying gold and her seal. Make the messenger think he is genuine, but make sure he is incompetent enough to get caught. The other nation will 'know' that only she is involved. She is a wanted criminal in two nations and you have destroyed the power she wanted to hold.

If she accepts responsibility, then... well I've read her wrong. Now is your chance. While she is weak and powerless, offer her a hand of friendship. Approach her in a wheelchair, even if she knows you don't need it. Show her a cripple she made offering her a hand of friendship.

Now you are both going to do the Ozymandias plan. You are, combined, going to be the threat that binds Europe together against a common Foe.

Together you will force the world to unite against a common threat.

That isn't what I was saying at all. I was saying I honestly don't think DP has it in him to outscheme her. He doesn't have the necessary underhanded cunning, I think. >rapes a prince, really looking like were heading into sociopath country. Markus has no chance in hell with that strategy

We must rebuild Markus. We can do this by giving DP ways to work on new strengths, or more realistically apply the strengths he has in different ways than anyone would expect. We will train DP, TEACH him to play the way a hero is to be played. We get shit done, right? Well then, let's teach this old dog new tricks.

Part of me wonders if we could teach him. We need to try and teach DP to be able to think of these schemes, rather than just ask us.

DP, of all of us, knows her best. He needs to start running hypotheticals. He needs to be able to think to himself "If I do X, what will she do? What if I do Y instead, what will she do?"

He needs to be able to predict her reactions and be able to plan it out so her reactions will be the cause he wants to the effect he desires.

She's a foreigner, (she has them believing) the former Prince's mistress (despite how unlikely it is for a 13-14 year old to have a mistress), and is doing all sorts of good work and helping the populace, not acting like royalty should and stuff.

For them she's improving the economy and social standards as well as foreign relations.

But all they really care about is the child she bore them. Once her usefulness runs it's course, they'd gladly get rid of her.

First, I think we can all agree that he's not going to have much of a chance of anything if he just stays as a desk jockey policeman. He needs to get some sort of power. Figure out what you want (either magical, political, economic, status or whatever), and go after it.

Whatever you do, though, make sure you survive. I know, it sounds obvious, but if she ever decides that you're too much trouble to keep around, you are done. There's not going to be much you can do at this point to stop her or the party if they decide to do it. So be smart, and be careful.

I agree that some major events will have to happen at some point, it's only natural.

However allot of people have suggested that starting WWI is a good thing.

It doesn't sit well with me, but as some people have suggested it's probably for the better so I can work towards it regardless.

    ---

    I'll paint a picture, given the suggestions so far, on how I think things would happen if I follow them;

    - Magic route; learning magic to oppose her and build strength and help people. By this way, given magic's dying nature, I'll probably be able to do lots of good for people, but invariably the expanse of the amount of influence and things I can do would be small scope. By this method, it'd be more like, I could help people that are being persecuted, and gain enough strength to put Illora down, but after that there isn't much I could do in terms of world changing, and the WWI would invariably happen.

Essentially, it's do small good, and complete what I want (retribution for Illora), but after that it's take a backseat to history as the world moves on.

    At least I think...

    - Nemo route; not only does this allow me to obtain such advanced tech as previously unseen, but it also allows me to travel pretty much anywhere. Assuming I can help Nemo with his problems in the South Pacific, it allows me to bring the world up to speed and increase technology everywhere. Entailing that, just by nature Illora will be progressively more and more left behind and fade away. If she chooses to react, a simple, protracted display of force against her would be enough, and though I'd probably take allot of fire from other nations, overtime it wouldn't much matter.

In this way, there also may not be a war at all, given that technology wonders would be blooming everywhere, and basically everyone is going through a golden age. Plus, we'd have the means to intervene and stop a war. Essentially foster the world in a direction we want while bringing it up to speed.

    ---

    - Strange Magic route; by freeing the Outsider, we'd join her in her mission. The magics of the old world rebel against the new, and the world is cast into war. In this way the process is sped up, and turmoil is now.

The only problem is, this makes us an enemy of most of the world, Nemo included. It could also give Illora a chance to unite Europe as a common force against us, with her at the lead.

All that said though, even against an alliance of Europe, and Nemo and the inventors, they'd be hard-pressed to defeat us, and would need like some sort of miracle to triumph. Even if things went south, we could always retreat and build up power again.

    ----

That's my take on how things might happen. Again, just speculation, but based on how things have been going, and how I expect DM's would allow things to happen.
Also at some point or other, I still like the idea of stealing Illora's baby. If for no other reason than to raise it proper, but also because it would destroy her power base in Spain and cause her all sorts of trouble.

The obvious solution would be to figure out if or -why- magic is dying and stop it. I mean, the Outsider was certainly able to get a lot of magic wasn't she?
If I have to wager a guess it won't be some tangible force or event. It'll be because all the magic-users are bound by tradition, unwilling to embrace a changing world. And as such, they're being left behind.
You could teach them that the world is big enough for people to still honor the old ways while still moving forward. It's just that in order to do so, you can't have a bunch of imperialists actively stamping out tradition.

...the way you say 'Strange Magic' and hint that it's something old magic would react harshly to, seems to hint that you might not want the Outsider's power.
Also, my only complaint with Nemo is that you'd pretty much just be doing what he tells you to do (and you'd be right to).

Hmmm... If those are your options I'd suggest the Magic Route. Be the hero, save as many as you can, in spite of all you've suffered. Make genuine allies and friends if possible, from numerous circles of life. If Illora threw her life, conscience, and soul, away for the price of seeing her vision of Europe prosper, you should do the opposite, enrich your life, learn to appreciate the hidden corners of the world (while they're still around) and all the peoples who dwell within.

Well I simply mean that going that route is probably the most drastic.

It entails going against most everything, with only nature on your side. Hence why during her reign of terror, besides her technology and magic strengths, legions of natural magic wielders and creatures (dryads, elementals, even just normal animals, bears and sharks and stuff) joined her fight.

A sad story for them that once she was subdued, it only made the rest of the nations involved rally against them more. It used to be that you could go into a forest and meet fairies and tree spirits, and maybe see a unicorn or centaur go by.

Not anymore though, mass genocides and the like happened.

Hm. It was reckless of her, to make things so 'all or nothing' wasn't it? Especially when she couldn't follow through.
Such a shame that ironically she ultimately did far more harm to natural magic than she prevented (which was likely her original intention).
No wonder other magic-users would seek to distance themselves from her. Unless you have some method of controlling or commanding the Outsider, I suggest not involving yourself with her, as it seems to be too much of a gamble.

You're probably a very smart guy, but you don't seem to have the underhanded cunning that would be needed to Xanatos Gambit her.

Before you enact any plan, the first question you need to ask is "How will she react?" and you need to KNOW the answer. Assume however you act, she will know.

The true genius of being able to pull of a Xanatos gambit isn't that you've planned something well - any one can have a plan - it's that you've incorporated your enemy's movements into the plan.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but with the near extinction of magic, you becoming its champion is sounding more and more awesome. That seems like the most feasible path to revenge. Gypsies have always been associated with those forms of magic and you now have a greater "in" now that she told you she has a mole in the gypsies. With a good pact with the fey you could easily gain enough magic to get started on the path of becoming a great magician, reviving magic, or even getting some artifacts to help on your journey. If you are going that route you must do some research on what type of fey that is in your world. Some of there rules of edict can be deadly for the unprepared. My suggestion on were to start looking is the tomes you confiscated as a policeman.

Also i was the one who asked if "that girl" was aware of these threads. Considering that the plan is to kill her, if she knew what we were talking about she would not have talked about "the cycle going on and on." So I would say with some confidence that she is not reading this thread.

Or perhaps some character goals in general that may coincide with doing such actions as "Joining with the outsider" or, less drastically, "reviving magic"? To me it doesn't seem like your goal concrening this game isn't to defeat Illora, so what is it? Also, I may have missed it while reading the tread, but what system are you playing ("Shadowrun", "GURPS")?

It's a homebrew game, setting. Some of the DM's have taken bits and pieces from other games to do things they needed, but mostly homebrew. We run our games mostly on talking and describing, and really only use character sheets and stuff to keep track of various things, and dice occasionally to determine roughly how well something is to happen, and play off of that.

It's a bit complicated to breach at first, but we've been doing it this way with most of our games, so we're all pretty set with it.

Downside is if you can't talk out narratives or describe things in good detail, it can be pretty hard, but we're all fairly competent at it, some more than others.

I do a much better job of explaining it in the first threads, this is just a summary.

I figure my out of game goal is to make things interesting, if not fun for everyone. I could have given up and died in the forest way back when and rolled a new character, joined the group anew. However, everyone noted how things were similar to how Illora was left alone, and how I could run with it and do something cool. It's allot to expect, given that I've never been the best player or even DM'd a game, but they expect Markus to come back, possibly provide a threat. I want to give them a BBEG to theirs and Illora's goals.

In game, I figure I want Markus to make a physical recovery, to have Germany do comparatively well in world events, and to have Illora face justice in some way, even if she truly does become a force for good in the world.

Those are the basic goals. How he gets to completing those things is still up in the air, as is anything else that isn't specifically related to them but are worth achieving as well.

Reviving magic, or starting a revolution, causing WWI or traveling the world? All these suggestions have been fantastic, I'll just see where things are in a few games, and from there I can start acting towards major long term goals.

Can't believe this thread is still up. I suppose nothing unites /tg/ more than Bitches That Need To Die.

Ooh, glad I caught it before it 404'd. I've read up just yesterday, and this sounds awesome and a half.

Unite magical peasants and start supernatural proletariat revolution sounds good, but if you can ever-so-gently nudge assorted casters toward thinking about that "old earth majjikque" or whichever, that may work as preparation to busting the Outsider out, but having a fairly strong hand when you do - you have an army to put behind her juggernaut, and that army would rather follow you. Why'd they bust out the Outsider in the first place? She has a proven history of buttfucking one of the main imperialistic powers. So why not give her a second shot, if she can live with not directly attacking your beggar's army.

Unrelated, does Illora's player live anywhere near North Carolina? I only ask because I have this friend of a friend . . .

Fuck it, I like head-games. I'll be in my bunk.

I figure very much pic related.

    >>12806714

Well as long as whoever it is, is involved with Natural magic, then yes, the Outsider wouldn't attack them. Druids and shit, Wicca and magic of the earth, creatures and dwellers of the old world are the staples of her "new world".

As for Illora's player, she lives in your town, and is coming to fuck up your game next.

DP if nothing else, even if you don't travel the world learning the ways of magic you should get out of Germany. That Girl still has power there so it will be easier to track you there (and in Spain of course.) Where you go doesn't matter so much so long as That Girl doesn't have any power there.

Global huh? Well DP you must combine magic and technology (Join Nemo) to create a rocket to the moon and start your revenge scheme from there.

Was no one else convinced by her weepy reform?

I know she seems like one prone to betrayal, but she seemed pretty convincing to me.

Honestly, I'd say Illora's actions against Markus and the party were more or less completely logical and justified (as far as revenge goes). She spared Markus and his cleric friend in her first two attacks because they were nice to her, and only crippled Markus (in a deliberate callback to what happened to her) because he tried to kill her in her sleep. I do think that Illora (in-character) is being completely sincere.
Ultimately though, it's irrelevant. She still raped and murdered a 14-year-old Prince, and even if she's sorry for the things she's done, she downright stated that she's perfectly willing to do them again for the sake of her goals.
That's why even if Markus is able to (and in my opinion should) able to put what Illora did to him aside, he still needs to take her down for all the terrible things she has and probably will do to others.

She said she'd rather kill herself than descend any further though...

Nah, she just said she'd kill herself if she had to kill Markus. And that's only if she killed him if he prevented her trying to redeem herself.

Even if Illora is being sincere, that doesn't change anything. You can still do terrible things in the name of peace. In fact, I'm getting unpleasant reminders of the Operative from that Serenity film.

One more post to get this to autosage. Good thread, though, and I'm looking forward to the next one! I'll work on some good art when the time comes.

The only reason I would consider believing/forgiving her, is that seeing her again like this, it seemed like she basically shed a facade, the evil self. Before this, after leaving her she'd always appeared resolute in her actions and convinced of her beliefs, however now she's admitted it was a face she put on to try and cope.

Saying that everything going on, all of it is too much for her, and the way she acted was like seeing the old self again. To reiterate, she never used to be bad. She was just the groups lively and kind rogue who got us through allot of things with mostly optimism.

Now it's revealed that the evil, world-changing self was just a guise she put on to get revenge. She finds revenge isn't what she wanted, but now the evil self is all she has left, and the only option to follow.

Given the recent turn of events, it looks like she's still the same young girl I once knew, wrapped up in something too big for her, and desperate for what to do.
Of course, that's assuming she wasn't lying. And regardless, she still has to pay for what she did. I'll see to that.

Pay for what she did to who? To you? Because... from what I've seen, Markus kind of got what was coming to him. I mean that shit was some downright ironic punishment.
That's not to say that Illora hasn't done things worth punishing, and won't do bad things in the future, even if she feels guilty about it.
I'm just saying that when you take her down for the final time... please don't let it be just for the sake of yourself.

Good. Hmm.. For your next session, you still have the morning to deal with, which means you'll have to handle both Illora and the gypsies. There's a chance that Illora might do something stupid with all the layers of psychological armor you seemingly shattered... So that's fun.
If she asks what your plans are, just tell her you're thinking of leaving Europe for a while, getting a chance to really appreciate the rest of the world, and maybe even help those in need. Play it off as a vacation, instead of a vengeance-fueled quest for arcane might and allies.
Also ask her even if she really does feel bad about the things she's done, will that stop her from doing more bad things in the future? Or will she continue to do things that make her hate herself, to see her goals fulfilled.

I'll have my family leave in the morning, that's for sure.

Whether or not Illora leaves is to be seen, I guess it depends whether or not she actually was telling the truth about her regrets.

And yes, I suppose I will tell her that I'm going away. It's not suspicious, and it's probably true.

I'd be inclined to actually trust her, seeing as she doesn't have a reason to lie to you. I mean as it is, Markus is hardly a genuine threat is he? As it is, he's -nothing-, and Illora probably feels it's safe to let her guard down around him.

And that's why, right before the final battle, you'll give her one chance to surrender.
(That is of course assuming you'll be holding the advantage by that point)
