Well, were back to our standard friday session. Hopefully this won't interfere with the new wave of quests that seem to be cropping up lately.

You are Lieutenant Zolomon Ringo, manly man, thrower of car sized axes, destroyer of worlds, slayer of gods.
For the last few months you've been hacking and slashing your way across time and space as part of the elite Nachtmaren Unit.
Last episode, Ramba Ral told you about the Loyalists plans to destroy Von Braun with a stolen Mobile Suit: The Jupiter Ghost.

    Bugger that.

Whilst the rest of the team took the slow route on a mail boat to Grenada to drop off crazy psychic girls and mail, you went with Ramba Ral, to try and talk to some of your dads old contacts.
One evening of work later you're pretty sure you've already found out who's been supplying the assault team with food and supplies whilst they wait for the go signal from the orbital Rickenbaker Expanse - a massive field of cargo pods and resource sattellites in orbit around the moon.

Honestly, this cloak and dagger stuff is EASY. You don't see what all the fuss is about.

is Zeonquest the longest running quest or does it just feel that way?

So, to return to the last episode:

    >"It won't be FoDonScray, it's too obvious, plus they aren't allowed to keep assets in the Expanse anymore because of the shit they pulled. There was also a full investigation into all of their holdings as well, they can't be sure they aren't still under surveillance. Arclight now seem might suspicious, what with them moving their offices outside of Von Braun, plus I'm pretty sure they still have a few cargo satellites up in the expanse. With all of the supposed confusion going on, it'd be the perfect cover for some food and supplies to go missing without be noticed. Problem is, Arclight don't have any transport shuttles, they've always used third party couriers... No way you'd trust something like that with these kind of stakes... Ah HA! Okay, two days ago, Arclight lost a lunar transport out in the sea, I remember it because Lowe came to salvage it, which Is odd because, like I said, they usually just stick to the Expanse these days. Okay, so, the supplies to the... guys... are in the "broken" transport, which are picked up by the Lowe Salvage vessel, and then transferred from there to the Expanse! Find that transport, and you'll have you're destination!"

These are our options the way I see it. Thoughts?

Plan A: Catch it before it launches. Capture or destroy.
Plan B: High speed intercept. David & Co borrow something from the Flanagain Institute or pickup some Kamphers in Grenada.
Plan C: Intercept while it's approaching Von Braun. We'd want someone who's a good shot and/or the Madagascar for this.

    >Can our Dad's old friend give us any more info on weird stuff that Lowe has been doing recently, any areas of strange activity in the Expanse?

"Nothing strange really springs to mind, they do a lot of work in the Expanse, it's pretty big and they're often in demand."

    >See Ramba Ral, that we've got a lead on where to start looking.

You thank Mr Grickory for his help, you tell him that it'd be best if he kept everything under his hat, as they don't want to be alarmed early... Understandibly he agrees, but says that he's probably going to take the next week off somewhere safe.
    Like Jupiter.

You meet back up with Ramba Ral and tell him of what you discovered.

"Hmm, I think you might be onto something. Now all we have to do is figure out a way to get access to the shuttle they used to transfer the supplies to the Assault Team..."

"Would they have transferred the supplies from one shuttle to another?" Another of his team asks.

"Possibly, we'll need any surveillance videos from the vehicle hanger at Lowes to try and determine that."

    "Great. How?"

    ANY IDEAS?

I'd say go with option 2. First one requires us to cover a -lot- of ground, and if we mobilize too many forces for it we'll tip our hand. Kaempfers would be our best option for interception, with their high speed and reliance on solid ammunition.

If we can second Nell and the Braw Bro, all the better. Ideally we can station her in orbit over Von Braun where her remote weapons can intercept the warheads, and the Kaempfers are sent out as probes. Handwave it as an equipment or training exercise on Flanagan's part.

Yes as a matter of fact, they're pretty stringent about it to after a couple of bad mining accidents about 50 years ago. It's why most mining corporations do their actual mining fairly far away from Von Braun and it's inspectors roving eyes.

You bring up the plan. Ramba Ral indicates it may be possible to get some false Inspector ID's and uniforms, it'll be costly on short notice, but luckily he's still got the onboard gold reserve for such things.

With nothing better to do, you decide to return home to the pub.
Namaah is busy serving customers, although it looks like things are relatively quiet. They don't really get busy until the evenings.

Seeing that you have way too much free time, she ropes you into helping serve behind the bar.
You spend the next two hours pulling pints for unemployed miners who luckily don't seem to recognise you.

After you manage to escape, you meet up with Ramba Ral.

"Well, we've managed to insert five fake ID's into their database, it's pretty rough and ready, but it should be enough for our purposes."

He hands you a pair of workmans overalls, and tells you to get changed.
You take the time to check in your bag, you shift the weapons from their concealed bottom to the top of the bag, for easier access if called for. Luckily, your duffel bag looks like it could also double as a tool bag so there's no need to go looking for a new bag.

As he fits a fake beard around his mustache, Ramba Ral continues to brief you all.

"We've managed to get the ID of the vehicle they used to attend to the Arclight Luna transport, so we know which one were looking for, you'll go with Amistad who will do a detailed check on the vessel's hard-drive. Meanwhile Charefe and I will keep an eye on any Lowe Staff nearby whilst Phellips downloads their hangar surveillance tapes. We don't want to linger anymore than we have to, the less time they have to get suspicious of us, the better."

You (with some difficulty) fit on a workmans hat over your prestigious 'fro and give him a nod of understanding.
Seeing as everybody is ready, you all make way to the nearby transport pod.

"What's the Journey time?" Phellips asks.
"Lowe are based inside Von Braun spacedock 15, it's a smaller dock they largely have to themselves."

"Won't that be a little close for them if the Loyalists pull this off?"

"Working theory is that only certain elements of Lowe Salvage has been compromised, not the entire organisation. With a bit of luck, those agents will already have pulled out by the time we arrive..."

Ok, to clarify what I think was being thrown about, SRWQ started well after Zeonquest, in late january of this year. Zeonquest is the elder, and its 90% of the inspiration for me starting SRWQ in the first place. However, there was a breif period a few months ago where there were more SRWQ threads than total Zeonquest thread. There are 45 threads in the first 'disc' and 36 in the current story uber-arc, as of right now. This is because /m/ is a lot slower than /tg/ and I can run quest threads non-stop, posting every couple of hours and leaving them to sit in the lower pages overnight. This means each thread can last a week or two until I finally let it fall off page 15 or it hits autosage.

It also helps that I'm an obsessive with no life.
    >> I apologised on 4chan !!857o4GkKJgy 11/12/10(Fri)14:15 No.12772060
You arrive at Space Dock 15 fairly quickly. Transport pods have certainly got a lot quicker and efficient in recent years.
You remember when they used to travel at a fixed 20mph, and their pathfinding protocols were only about as intelligent as a New York Taxicab drivers.

Anyway. You reach the somewhat rundown looking offices of Lowe Salvage, and work your way around to the loading docks on the back. The main shutters are closed, and whilst the light on in the back implies that they're open, they don't appear to be doing anything.

Ramba Ral prepares his fake ID and knocks on the back door. There is a short delay before he's finally answered by someone who wont even open the door properly.

    "Whaddya want?" He asks.

Unpeturbed, Ramba Ral shows him his ID.

"We're here for a suprise safety inspection can you let us in?"

    There is a pause.
"What? Come on? Today? Can't you come back tommorow."

"No, because that's why it's called a suprise safety inspection."

"Uh, hold on." he says again.

    Ramba Ral frowns some more.

You pull out your SMG, and attatch a silencer to it after making sure the guy Ramba Ral knocked out won't be going anywhere soon. The others are doing the same.

"Hey what's the hold u-" comes the call from inside the office, cut off as Ramba Rall puts a bullet from his silenced sidearm through his skull.

The rest of you move inside. Watching the exits on the way.
The reception area is unmanned and the door to the hangar is still open, despite health and safety warnings to keep it closed clearly visible around it. The guy next to you rolls his eyes.
"Well, they'd be marked down for that for a start." he remarks quietly.

You peer inside. It's a small hangar bay with two shuttles. Only one has it's doors open, and a toolkit beside it. You can't see anybody else, but you assume they must be there.
If you remember the Von Braun Small Hangar configuration correctly, the security room should be accessable via the close door to your left, which will be adjacent to the offices, and will have windows overlookind the hangar.
The Hangar itself should be quite small, and looks somewhat cramped as is with two shuttles inside, it's really only designed for one.
Going straight for the shuttle is probably going to cause alarm, but from the looks of things, they're deleting vital evidence as we speak.
However, the same is probably also true of the security room...

Split up. We have a couple of Ramba's Commando/Spy types with us, right?

We take the security room, and can provide covering fire to Ramba and his chaps through the window as he goes for the shuttle. Once we've cleared it out, anyway.

Security room suggests Security Cameras though, so they're probably expecting us. We got flashbangs?

No. You don't have flashbangs or smoke grenades. Just ordinary ones.

You and Cherefe prepare your weapons, you and him will make a dash for the shuttle, but you'll be giving Ramba Ral's team a good five second headstart first, to try and maximise the chances of him taking out any guards in the security office.

He opens the door and him and the three others dash down. You then check left and right one more time, and make your dash.
A hidden guard between the two shuttles reacts in suprise at you, you send a burst of bullets at him before he can return fire with his own sub-machinegun and down him.

"Hey what's going on?" Asks the tecnician from inside the shuttle. You use the microgravity to your advantage, somersault into the cabin and stamp his face into the side of the cockpit cabin with your boot as part of a spin kick.
He slumps bonelessly to the ground. You usher the guy behind you inside and lock the cabin door from the inside.

    "Hows it look?" You ask.

"It looks like they were in the process of removing the hard-drive and replacing it with a clean one. You can't ever really be sure with just a datawipe these days, data retrieval has gotten pretty damn advanced."

"So they're gonna lift the drive, replace with a new one, and vent the old one into space?"

"Most likely. Shit! They already gaussed the drive though to be doubly sure. It's going to take day's to retrieve the data from this drive!"

"Shit, we don't have days man! What about the tiertiery manufacturers black-box?"

"The what with the what now?"

"All shuttles made in Von-Braun for operations within the city (which this is) have to have a second black box fitted inside an armoured core in the cockpit floor. It's another safety reg that most people forget."

Cherefe blinks, clearly oblivious to this. Which might mean that the ZIRCON agents were as well...

You grasp a crowbar from within your BAG OF GUNS AND SHIT and begin prying up the floor plating of the shuttle.
You have to grab the knocked out technician and toss him out first as he's in the way. You can hear shooting outside from the security room.

The plate is hard to remove, it's a good sign it hasn't been done recently. You lift if and pull up the smaller, older black box. Charefe pulls out his diagnostic and begins checking it.

"It's doesn't appear to have been tampered with, and I'm seeing flight data. I'll skip to the last few entries try to see if I can find it. Goddamn, there must be 10 years worth of entries in here... found it! I'm downloading the last weeks worth of entries wholesale so we don't miss anything. Can Cherefe, I dunno... Email a copy to the analysis team or something? This could still go horribly wrong, and I'd rather not have all our eggs in one potentially shootable basket.

After that, make sure the shuttle's clear (I dunno how big it is. Could be some dude hiding at the back muttering frantically into his radio), then secure the people we KOed/shot. Ramba can probably handle the security room, and if he can't we probably wouldn't get there in time anyway.

Secure the people we've rendered unconscious or shot. We saw him go down, but he might still be able to radio for help.

You put on a thick pair of gloves from within your BAG OF GUNS AND SHIT and leap up to the security room and enter through the broken window.

What's the situation in the shuttle? We had to use a frag grenade to clear this room out, so the computers are fried. We've retireved what we can, but Phellips is optimistic."

"It looks like the agents forgot about the second black box in the shuttle, Carefe is downloading last weeks entires from it as we speak."

"Good, pass me any pineapples you have, we'll toss them at them and either make our escape, or risk finishing them off. Whichever seems appropriate."

You pass Ramba Ral the grenades.

"If any of them survive to get word out, they could start the attack early. We have to take them all out, and we have to take all of the prisoners with us. That possible."

"Sure, we need to interrogate some of them anyway." Ramba Ral replies with a shrug. He takes the grenades, removes the pin from one and tosses it down the hall.
An explosion follows, and you all dash forwards, guns blazing.
You stick your gun inside the doorway of the nearest office, find a target holding another compact SMG and fire a burst at him, you then move on, keeping up the rest of them as they storm forwards. Using the low gravity to dart about the walls and ceilings like some kind of stylised honk kong action film.
You see Amistad take a bullet through the leg and spin backwards. Ramba Ral arrests his fall and bodily catches him, send bullets spitting back at the assailant from his pistol.
You add to the weight of fire, supressing the attacker and then helping Ral carry the wounded Amistad into an already cleared office. Ral takes out some more battlefield dressing.

"I'll deal with this, you take my grenades and finish them off!" he tells you as he hands the remaining nades back to you.

Taking position behind Phellip you see him trade shots at close distance, firing blind from cover. You helpful toss a primed grenade at the direction of enemy fire. There is a pronounced yelp as your fastball sluggs some poor bastard in the face.
The following krump of the explosion clears the opposing room out.

Both you and Phellip nod at one another and push forwards. There's one office left in the building, most likely the Directors.

Taking position on either side of the door, you replace the ammo mag on your SMG, and check with Phellips, he nods and you tap the door switch.

The door opens and a hail of bullets follow. Unfortunately, you seem to have run out of grenades. You look around you for something that could help you out, and you spot a fire extinguisher attatched to the wall.
You close the door again, dash for it, and wrest it from it's moorings, you then punch the seal on it, open the door again, whilst Phellip gives covering fire, you jam it on and toss it inside. A shower of bullets follow, you hear a loud ding, followed by a bang and a scream.
Some stupid idiot doesn't know what happens when you shoot a high pressure container at close range it seems.
You dive in, there are bouncing shrapnel fragments everywhere, the room is a mess of blood and papers and carbon dioxide. You're pretty sure that whoever was shooting at you is dead. But you carefully give it a minutes for everything to finally settle to double check.

From what you can tell he was trying to call out to somewhat. But from where your standing, the phone appears to have been too badly damaged to find out who.

Apologized, you can't keep doing that. That is one of the major reasons I feel ZQ has gone downhill lately. Less active players and whatnot. You don't let us make our own mistakes, so no matter what we do, everything ends up at the same conclusion. It all becomes the illusion of choice when we have no influence on what happens.

I'm not saying that you aren't listening to what we say, because you do. But no matter what we say and you add in for flavor, we end up at the same exact point.

    AFTERMATH

You quickly drag the unconcious survivors back with you onto the transport pod, and lock up behind you as you go.

You have to rush, as the explosions might bring in law enforcement officers, which you don't have time for right now.
The journey back to the Hotel is somewhat nervous and tense. Carefe is still going over the data, but he thinks he's got it. But he needs network access to crosscheck and make sure.

After bribing the receptionist to look the other way, you drag the unconcious agents back to Ramba Rals joint rooms. One room is cordoned off for Amistad and Phellips to interogate the survivors, whilst Carefe double checks the data.

    A few minutes pass.

"It looks good sir. I've crosschecked where the shuttle went after attending to the Arclight crash, it went directly to this resource sattellite in the Rickenbaker Expanse. The sattellite is large, has very big entry and exit ports, perfect for hiding a Superheavy MS like the Ghost, plus it's currently registered as unowned and for sale, and the last owner was Arclight. I think this is the one."

"Good work soldier. Okay Zolomon, we have our target, now, how do we get the word to the rest of Nachtmaren without alerting the enemy?"

Yeah, that's what I meant. Okay then.

You compose a digital file containing all of the relevant information, and put it inside a sealed envelope.

You then book on short notice a fast transport to Grenada, and send Carefe with the message to deliver it personally. With a bit of luck, you might just be able to pull it off...

You shake hands with man as he's about to leave in the shuttle.

"Well, in case I don't see you at the end of this mission, it's been real bro." you tell him.

"Thanks, it's been... and experience certainly."

"The work ain't over yet you two, now comes the tricky part." Ramba Ral reminds you both.

"Tricky? Commander, have you ever actually SEEN my boss fight?"

While Zol's doing this, David and the team are sipping martinis and laughing at him.

    That is Zol's greatest fear.

David or Jolyne had better have been testing Newtype weapons in the course of their side trip.

    >"Tricky? Commander, have you ever actually SEEN my boss fight?"

That would be a no. He was off fighting core fighters with the rest of the team while Jol, David and Hovis attacked the Carrier.

I like that Zol calls David his boss.

I could do Omake's about what the rest of the team has been doing, but honestly, I think I'll save that for next week.

    Yes.
    We know.

Hell, why did you think that Zeon wanted to end the war without ever actually setting foot on the earth in the first place?
Did you not fucking read any of the background information or are you just here to troll.

I've been looking at the MS-18F Kämpfer Beam Weapon Type this past week and think it might be the best choice as Zeon's designated sniper MS.

The MS-05L conversions dont seem to be happening (yet) and the Gelgoog isnt being produced in significant numbers for Jaegers to be issued as a main line sniper unit.
With some minor modifications like dust filters for joints I think the MS-18F could prove just as effective on Earth as in space. They could wear camo netting or tarps as they move into position then use their superior engine output to escape after firing. Their limited fuel reserves are only an issue in situations where they have to use their boosters.

    >>12775406

Seems reasonable. The high engine output would probably help it to shoot and scoot as well. It'd need some pretty big external fuel pods, but for a long range support unit that wouldn't be too bad...

Considering its high payload capacity, drop tanks wouldn't be out of the question. UMP suits use them, so it should be possible to retrofit some hardpoints on the back, maybe where the bazookas attached.

And if it's assembly is any indication it'd be much cheaper to produce than the MS-14Jg.

Btw was that a yes or no on a Gyan Beam rifle shield?
(Yes Sam, I know you still want that other one, I'll get it next week.)

The Krieger is the one that Zol already has. I put it there for comparison.
I'm trying to find ways of increasing the ranged firepower for regular Gyans since we havent seen them carrying Beam Rifles yet.
The Gelgoogs that Girhen is likely to deploy en-mass are going to give us a very hard time.

Aww, thanks Arty. I didn't mean for it to necessarily be for mass production though, if you're worried about that. More like an ace custom shield for an already-upgraded Gyan with an improved reactor to handle both extra weapon systems at the same time. Alternately, since they probably won't be fired at the same time much (short ranged linked weapons and a long ranged rifle, right?), then I suppose a normal reactor could power them both as long as they're not used at the same time....

I'm just thinking of versatility here. And at close range, if the reactor can handle it, adding the Beam Rifle's firepower to that of the Beam Guns would be helpful, no? Blarg, it's late, I don't even know what I'm talking about anymore.

tl;dr- Thanks for indulging my need for more guns Arty.

...What if, we replaced the Hide-Mines with Anti-Beam Chaff pods?
    >> Arty 11/12/10(Fri)20:53 No.12776304
    >>12776094
That'd certainly give it a much better chance of closing to melee range.

And if you're going to be launching beam chaff from the shield a beam weapon wouldnt be quite as useful... What about that GM Railgun we captured at Odessa? Give them to regular Gyans as a backup ranged weapon?
