153 KB The Hunt Begins, Monster Hunter Quest. The Hunter !!Qj88om50LLw 10/29/10(Fri)22:07 No.12616777
In front of you stands the most daunting challenge of your life, a massive creature armed with claws that can sunder walls and armored in scales that can resist cannon shot. Behind you stand your companions ready to slay the beast in front of you or die trying as you yourself ready your weapon. The creature finally gives your group notice and unleashes a roar that shakes you to the bone as the ground beneath you shakes. It rears back it's massive head jaws open before it begins to charge, each massive footstep crumbling the earth behind it. One blink and it is upon you, your weapon is held tight and you lunge forward to strike...

    Only a one thing remains...

    WHO ARE YOU?

The snake next to us is our pet snake. Hand-reared, non-poisonous constrictor that's about as big as it's going to get. Male (probably), very good at keeping rodents out of dwellings, camps and food.

The bow is our dad's old bow. A hand me down, but it's a damned fine weapon.

    >Well that's an interesting response...I can roll with this.

Your strike lands as you have a split second to roll away as the monster collides with the rest of your group. You're lanky frame allows you to roll away only in time for you to catch the tail of the beast to your head. Your armor takes most of the brunt force and the blow takes your helmet off allowing black hair and skeleton like face to show. Your skin would be pale from the concussive force of the blow if it wasn't already that way naturally as you once again go to strike at the monster, You raise your weapon in strike only for the last thing to pass your vision is it's massive claw raking into you, you feel the world lose color, go white and hear the faint meowing of cats in the distance.

The world remains white but words can be heard form an unfamiliar voice, "Well...I think the skeleton is starting to move again. Now not so fast...Do you have a name?"

Your mind strains as you try and think but any thoughts apart from the beast you were just fighting fail to show...You begin to get hints at a name...

    WHAT IS IT?

    > Huh I thought this had died...Very well them

"Faolán Orobus" You manage to say before pain over takes you.

Visions of the battle and your previous life flash before you. You begin to remember what caused you to become a Hunter. Flashes of various hunts fill your mind like a night full of stars as you finally begin to awaken to the real world.

"Whoa now...You've been out for weeks." A gruff voice says. There is man missing an arm before you, his hair graying and balding in the middle. He wears battered armor and has dull blue eyes.

You look around to find yourself inside a small cabin lit by a fire in the middle. You see shattered pieces of armor. Oddly enough you have no idea how it go there or who it belongs to. In fact you don't remember too much beyond the fight that lead you here.

"Where am I" Is all you can manage to ask as you hold your head.

"This is Lammite Village, in the swamp to the southeast of Minegarde...I found you a little bit past dead in the swamps when searching for some fire wood. You're a hunter my gear told me...so what weapon did you fight with?"

THE PATH OF 11 WEAPONS IS SET BEFORE YOU. WHICH DO YOU FOLLOW?

You can craft together items later.
Sword and shield users can hold items behind their shield, and use them without having to put weapons away.

It is easier to set barrels of gunpowder and shock traps around when you don't have to holster your lance first.

I vote for SnS. Nothing gets me more mad than when the hammerbro and Sephiroth gets one shotted by Lagiacruz.

At least with the SnS, we're given more options and can control the fight better. My favorite thing was to flashbomb the beast, hit it with the shield at its face (which deals stun damage, causing the monster to go loopy again), then trap it, keep hitting the head to get the delicious stun lock, then deploy the second trap. By then, they should have broken it's face, wings, tail, teeth, and claws.

    Expensive? Yes.
    Cheap? Yes.
Is not ending up being eaten a good thing? Yes.

    >The dice gods have spoken.

Flashes of using a mighty shield and mightier lance enter your mind as you begin to get out of the bed.

    "I fought with a Lance."

The man nods, "Good maybe I can get the smiths to loan you one...that is if you want to continue hunting. Come on, get yourself out of the bed and we will have a look around the town."

You nod getting out of the bed and slowly walking outside. The village isn't much to look at. Shake wooden building holding themselves slight above the mud below. Wooden path ways lined with a torch ever few feet link through various buildings. A felyne covered in mud pops it's head up before meowing at the two newcomers to the outside.

The man gives it a nod before turning around, "Welcome to Lammite Village, Filthiest place in the world...but it's home."

You can see a small guild building at the far side of the pathways, A combined Blacksmith and Armorer sits nearby as well as a small indoor shop across the way.

You check your pockets and look for a bag but find nothing in either and your bag missing.

    >Status Skills and Scores
Nothing as of yet but you did just recover from what could have been a very long coma

    >Where did the guy find us?

You ask where the man found you before he scratches the back of his head with his one arm.

"Well I was going to my usual place for firewood a little back in the swamp where our village problem doesn't like to follow and there you were caked in mud and half dead. At first I had to beat the Melynx's off of you but they finally gave up and I managed to drag you back to the village."

Your memory is about as clear as a glass of Guinness.

    >Go to Smithy, see about arms/armour.

You move towards the smithy waving to the Felyne as you walk by. It meows at you before continuing it's work. Inside you find a man sewing a set of scales together to form a plate for later armor use. He looks up before moving to the counter.

"Ahh Fern, I see the dead one decided to rejoin us." The man whipes some sweat from his brown before putting on a large grin.

The one armed man, Fern, replies, "Yeah and she needs a Lance and a set of armor. Apparently she's still up for the Hunt."

"Now you look more like a real hunter." Fern says as he looks over your newly obtained weapon and armor.

You test the lance making sure the deploying mechanism works before sheathing it.

The Smith chimes in, "So how about some payme-"

The high pitch meowing of a Felyne echoes through the Village as people rush into the nearest buildings. The sounds of high yells of some unknowns begin to gather closer. Fern scowls looking to the smith

    "Did you finish the repairs?"
    "Yeah hear you go."

The one armed hunter takes a set of Dual Swords holding one in his arm and setting another into a brace on his leg.

"You remember that problem I told you about earlier? Well let's see if you still got it in you."

Fern exits the blacksmith looking about before a brownish figure leaps onto him knocking him back. The creature stands human height with a fin on top of it's slim reptilian features. With a move only to be seen in a karate film he spins on his right leg before bringing a bladed left leg up into a Genprey sinking into it's neck before slamming it into the ground finishing it with his other blade in hand. The Genprey back up a bit seeing three of their brothers slain before begining a circle around the midst of the two hunters. Finally a trio of them decide to make a charge in, fangs and claws at the ready.

Poking block the first, stab combo the second, then slide dodge to let Fern pounce in full combo at the last one?

You bring your shield to face the trio heading at you. The first charges forward with a leaping bite only to recieve a nice portion of iron in it's mouth. It's second brother isn't so dumb leaping into the air and bringing it's claws down into you. You feel something familiar as a claw sinks through your armor into flesh. As you fall backwards however you see a red aura around Fern as he brings his blade down from the sky.

With another leg spin he kicks the Genprey off of you and follows up with another bladed round house and falling blade finish. He rolls to the third Genprey before in what seems almost like a dance strikes out against it with his weapons. The result is equvilent to a fish in a sushi shop as the Genprey falls to the ground.

Their numbers now halved the Genprey decide it's best to pack up and leave. Better to fight another day than be dinner tonight.

    >Combat Concluded.

A puffing Fern walks up to you taking the blade off of his leg and sliding them onto his back, "Well you've discovered our problem first hand...Excuse me..I need to go sit down for a second."

The slain Genprey stand around you waiting to be carved, 6D10.

Rip into the things, not idea why, but your hands and your spare knife worked at the flesh with unremembered practice.

    "How often does this happen?"

    >I think so which is why I'm probably going to call it here shortly.

You get to carving up the Genprey which results in 5 of the 6 having anything worth getting off of them. There really wasn't much left of the sushi'd one Fern went berserk on.

    >"How often does this happen?"

"Depends really but at least once a day. Usually they come and grab whatever we didn't manage to get indoors and take off but sometimes when their leader is here they'll try to get into the buildings. It's strange though, Genprey aren't usually that intelligent nor brave." Fern says as he begins catching his breath.

The smith pokes his head out, "Ok, you can keep the armor and weapon. Think of it as a thanks for making sure they didn't cause any harm to anyone."

"Well..." Fern says, "Maybe now that you're hear the guild will let us hunt down the Gendrome and put a stop to these attacks...But for now let's rest up and patch up. You can have the spare bunk at my place..."

    >I'm calling it for tonight unless activity picks up again. Thanks for participating and I'm open for any kind of pointers and what nots.

You're doing it well, just perhaps the setting is a bit too /v/ for /tg/. Try to step away from the setting, make it loose and more random:

"It's monster A! Do this!" "The monster spits acid at you." "What the??!!?"
