    Chapter 2 pt 2: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/12403737/

Galatea shook her head, a sister coming back with her armor, cleaned and polished. "Don't call me reasonable Inquisitor. Hesitation to kill what is deemed heretical is hardly something to be praised." The sisters began helping the injured woman into the armor, despite the fact that several bandages were beginning to darken.

"There isn't much to say about her. She purges the unclean without hesitation or question and follows orders given without question. She is not a force to be taken lightly. I am a somewhat lenient Canoness as compared to the normal image one imagines when they think of the sisterhood. She is the opposite, going as far as executing her own soldiers for insubordination, regardless of reason."

She looked you up and down, biting the inside of her cheek. "We need to get you better armor... Just in case..."

Galatea didn't reply but the sisters around her quickly put on their helmets before reattaching her powerfist.

"What kind of armor do you want, Inquisitor? Carapace? Mesh? Power armor? Emperor, I think we have an extra synthskin suit from... a while ago..." The canoness, glanced to the side, her powerfist tightening a fraction, the other sisters, taking a tiny step back, probably grateful that their faces were hidden.

The Canoness nodded, shrugging off the girls who were supporting her, standing on her own, though she seemed a bit unsteady.

One of the sisters hesitated for a moment before jogging off, contacting the ship and relaying your request.

"The best course of action on your part is to remain silent unless addressed directly and to remain by my side. This is a matter of the Sisterhood."

    But which discipline?
Pyromancy is always good for laugh, but biomancy might prove very useful (plus, it would explain how Delessa smokes all those cigars)

as for psyker powers i guess its your pick. I'm not actually using the Dark Heresy books that much. I'm not binding you in any way with what you can or cant do according to any published ruleset (I have my own numbers so far they seem to be working when it comes to success and failure.) if theres some sort of power you want to use, try to use it (moreso by description than name please) and i'll roll away and tell you the result

The sisters returned with the synthskin and some bare power armor "halfplate", immedeatly turning their backs and clustering together to create a sort of living metal wall with an excessive amount of gold trim.

Before changing you send out a psychic message to Filigree. You sense, rather than see her cease her incessant poking of the mechanicus and glance in your general direction before going back to her fun.

When you had changed (and transfered the shiny objects from your coat to the armor) you slipped out from behind the sisters and surveyed the area.

The sisters were rushing about, trying to set up the area to look like they were doing more than letting Mechanicus poke at the device, setting up dataslates and some measuring equipment.

And off to the side, kneeling on a ruddy tarp, were Esme and Tessa. You nearly missed them as Esme had dimmed her inner glow considerably. They were facing each other, Esme's hands set gently upon Tessa's. Their heads were bowed, foreheads just barely touching. They seemed to be in prayer.

Your sense of wonder was broken as you heard a hollow mechanical bark, a huge mechanical dog bounding to your side, its tiny metal tail making its whole body wiggle as it expressed its utter joy at seeing you again. It was your pet Cyber Mastiff.

You ask her about Esme, trying to sound as humble as possible.

Verity gently set one hand on Anna's shoulder, the sister slowly calming, looking away from you. "Verity you can stop pretending! What's the point of keeping her here? Alive? She's just here to accuse Esme of being a heretic! And she has a bound daemon!"

Given a different inquisitor when you and your canoness departed to contain this situation they would have begun an orbital bombardment of this area, and not stopped until every living thing in the area was dead and the ground turned to molten slag.” Look to Esme. “I have good justification to dam her as a warp spawn, yet have contrary evidence that she is not. Given that the inquisition will generally err on the side of harshness I would warn you that I am the least of your troubles. Anna let out a soft "Humph!" Shoving the water flask back into Verity's hands before storming off. You watch her go, sighing deeply.

Verity shook her head a bit, looking to you. "Sorry about Anna... She had a rather close encounter with a daemon just before Esme's rise. Its what caused her facial scars and missing ear." She smiled weakly. "Mind possessing creatures that traveled through the radio. Never before had I heard anything so preposterous and yet so terrifying."

You nod slowly to her, drawing your knees up a bit as you watch the sisters rush about as something dawns on you. Slowly your eyes widen. "Emperor... is... is that chaos's plan?"

Verity looks at you, raising an eyebrow. "Is what-"

You cut her off. "What would have happened on this planet if those radio bound daemons were released along with the regular ones?" Verity's eyes grew slowly wide. "No one would be able to call for help! and those who did call for help would simply spread the infection!"

Shakily, Verity took off her micro-bead. "Do you really think that could be what's going on here?"

You shake your head slowly, looking up at her. "I don't know for sure but... It could be. The events seem rather far apart though to be related. And that still doesn't explain why they were warping in daemons to represent all 4 powers instead of simply these creatures."

When the dust finally settles, there is a woman standing in the doorway of the ship. She is tall, taller even than Galatea, her armor a rich, brilliant black the gilded gold trim slightly worn with age. Her sash was a beautiful shade of wihite, abruptly becoming discolored and tattered near the bottom and a jump pack She had a stern look about her, an enormous scar running the length of her face, over her eye, and all the way down her neck, lining up perfectly with a large chink in the neck area. She was armed with a thunderhammer of all things.

She stopped for a moment to survey her surroundings before moving forward, followed by a troop of 12 seraphim dressed similarly. The only difference was, where there was gold on the Canoness, there was silver on the seraphim. They automatically spread into a defensive formation once they had cleared the ship, timing their steps in with their Canoness's. Each was armed with a melta pistol and a flame pistol on either hip, a pair of short force blades strapped to their thighs a few inches lower

As they approached, you could see the heavy scarring on the faces, and you could guess bodies, of the seraphim. Like something clawed at their face. You only hope those are indeed battle scars and not the product of the elder woman's twisted training.

At the back, something catches your eye. Two seraphim, faces free of scarring, march along with the others. They seemed to be the same in every way and it takes you a moment to realize that they are twins. They cant keep their eyes from wandering a bit. Novices. They are probably the reason why Florencia came to this area in the first place...

Florencia stopped in front of Galatea, a small smirk crossing her features. "Well Galatea?" Her voice was a little grainy. "I see you have yourself an inqusitor, but where is this saint? this angel you you clain to have?"

Galatea's lips tightened a bit. "Its good to see you too Florencia... It's not like its been 16 years since we last saw each other. I'm fine, thanks for asking. How are things in service to the God-Emperor for you?" Her voice held just a hint of sarcasm, making Florencia smirk.

Somehow, this was scarier than her scowl.

"You never change, do you Galatea Benthen?" Galatea's eyebrow twitched.

"You say that if its a bad thing. As I recall you had fewer wrinkles last we met." The smile vanished from Florencia's lips, replaced once again with a glower.

It seemed almost as if the two canoness' moods were on some soft of scale. One had to be lowered for the other to raise.

"Regardless." The newcomer snapped, bringing you back to reality. "We have come to see the exalted martyr. Where is... she..."

Florencia's eyes widened as you felt rather than saw Esme slowly decend, landing gently between the two elder sisters. She was just as radient as you remember, if not more so. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Sister Tessa smile.

You could literally see the change Esme's presence caused in Florencia and her squad of seraphim. Their battle hardened exterior melted in a heartbeat, their emotions clear on their face as they fell to their knees in praise. The two novices in the back a little slower than the others, struck dumb by the Martyr's radiance. Each girl began to recite a Litany and though they differed in word and title, all of them offered up their speaker's devotion to the God Emperor.

    - The first few post after you wake up are horrible. Both grammat- and orthographically.
-It's annoying when you disappear for 1-2 hours between posts without announcing anything. You've already improved a lot in that regard.

    >Do you like that your character's abilities are directly related to rule of cool/badass meter?
In difference to Esme I have not the slightest idea what our current character is capable of. The best thing we've done is killed are a few non-descript daemons and we filleted some portal creating chaos machines.

Also, yes, you still have cigars left.

awright! now back to buisness You'll get a few more moments to shine here ;3 especially if you manage to figure out the shitstorm your in for before Filigree aka the horny little plot device figures it out for you

figuring it out early will also affect the death toll at the end. I mean think about it... All of this. Doesn't it seem a little overly elaborate for chaos if their intent is small scale? What is false information? How is everything connected? Answer that and the entire plot of the next chapter will change.

    4 machines.

    1. The one on our ship. Caused a rather small incursion, placed in a malfunctioning escape pod that didn't show direct chaos influence until the machine showed up.

    2. The one on the planet. Seemed to be dropped from a high altitude. Managed to summon a large amount of daemons.

Esme stepped forward, placing one hand gently on Florencia's black hair, the simple contact making the aquilas and fleur de lys on her armor glow faintly.

"Florencia... Do not bow to me. I am as you are, a servant of the God Emperor. Nothing more. Our cause is the same. If one must bow, then it shall be I to you, for it is you and your seraphim who are in far more danger than I when combating the forces of Chaos."

Florencia looked up at Esme, slowly rising to her feet. She looked uncomfortable, accustomed to kneeling to what she felt was honored and holy. "Thank you Exalted Martyr... You are a beacon of hope for us all in these dark times." Her seraphim slowly rose to their feet.

Esme smiled, letting her radiance dim a little as she turned, extending her hand to you, gently guiding you forward. "Canoness Florencia. This is Madame Inqusitor Delessa Kravos. She helped Galatea repel the daemonic incursion that was launched against this planet not long ago. Please honor her like you would a valued sister, for it was her strike that destroyed the device and saved many lives."

Florencia nodded, giving you the sign of the aquila and a small, respectful bow.

"Her stated duty is to discover the purpose behind the attack. Her trusted acolytes and Tech-Priests are working if they can discern any information. I would request that you do what you can to let them to their work."

Florencia nodded once, Esme smiling once before gliding silently away, moving to check up on the various groups of sisters scattered around.

Florencia turned to her seraphim. "My Angels we have bee blessed this day. Please, take this time to reflect upon yourselves and pray to the Emperor."

Her announcement was met with a unified "Ave Imperator, the seraphim visibly relaxing as they dispersed, looking for a small place of their own to kneel and pray.

The twins however, stayed together, sitting down in the shade of a ruined wall, murmuring softly to one another.

The machine on the ship summoned Slaaneshi deamons
The one on the ground summoned multiple deamons from different ruinous power
The two portals on ships are as of yet unclassified
The machinery causing the warp portals is made of rare components, but of manufacture in the matterium
They seem to vary in size
So far Esme has also encountered warp through machinery- nugle esque tentacles which were capable of affecting the world around them through audio and video links
The planet Esme landed on is said to have gone over to chaos relatively quickly, but with little deamonic incursion and relatively light warp storms.

I think the initial 4 machines weren't really significant. Like prototypes. They did the same thing as the big one but on a smaller scale.

also, i dont think it would be to just get rid of us. There are easier ways of doing that. Remember that OP blatently stated that it was huge.

I think this device might have been another test. you know? We're on a backwater Hive World. If the sisters hadn't been there already, would anyone have really missed it if it was destroyed?

The tentacles i think are a combination of all 4 ruinous powers. They have an extrodinarally unusual way of moving (tzeentch) they are a parasite (nurgle) they infect you by burrowing into the skin and suffocating you (slaanesh) and they drive you to violence (khorne) through mind control (Tzeentch) melt your body with the items around you (nurgle) and, i'd imagine, are very very painful (slaanesh)

I think the big one WAS part of the four already seen
Hrmph- I'm waiting for four more to show up someplace
Anyways, let's go see if our techies have uncovered anything valuable yet- maybe they identified the components of the materium bursting machines and where they can be found.
The idea of machines breaking the boundries of the immaterium is highly unsettling. Doesn't it require sacrifices and rituals of some difficultiy to open up portals such as the ones we've seen?
Also, I want a sitrep on the situation in space
Also also- has Cannoness Felecia ever encountered anything like this before?

But those are usually open for nothing more then a second
These engines keep the portal open almost indefinitely as far as we have seen, and have more in common with chaos rituals then warp drive engines I suspect

Acutally these two are, in fact, based off of my dark heresy characters, in that they are twins, and ebon chalace because

    1. Ebon chalice has a cool color scheme and logo
    2. Identical twin sisters of battle are made of awesome and win

Their stats are completely different in case anyone in my Dark Heresy game wants to try to use that to their advantage, but heres my logic.

You need more allies. I would rather work with a character i'm familiar with. You don't have any seraphim. Identical twins are awesome.

Is this a problem? Just because they have names/developed doesn't give them an ounce of plot armor.

fyi the original story involved the deaths of both Tessa and Anna. It was your actions (and some lucky rolls) that saved them.

    pt 1:
Saving Tessa in the caves, Barracading the door when escaping, dragging Tessa out of the onrushing mob of death, calling for help when you first entered the engine room, saving Anna from being possessed, choosing the planet over the moon, your less than subtle way to save the little girl.

    pt 2:

Pistol whipping a daemonette to interview her, binding said daemonette to use for later reference, not suffering from perils of the warp at some point because of psykic powers, being so damn good at gathering information from everyone.

    Alright, the who and how
Well, the who is obviously related to chaos in some way or another, or someone that would benefit from chaos related shenanignas
So far what we've seen also indicates some mechanical and technological expertise, or, again, access to those who do have such skills
Probably that dick chaos sorcerer is somewhere in the background pulling strings, but that's just my two cents. His minions are probably front and center though
The how remains a bit of a mystery- how would someone be able to plant those devices?
Well, the one planetside was dropped out of most probability from orbit or from a ship capable of making the drop.
And the other three were located in space ships- the one we encountered personally hidden someplace where there wouldn't be much access or interaction.
Hell, now that I think about it, the only person who would have any mind to go poking around in that pod, would

OH! OH! remember the infected guy with the gas mask? He spontaneously became chaotic. Like flipping a switch! what if the little warp storm infected the planet with the mind control? I agree with >>12432243 Think about it. If a somewhat backwater planet that is obviously lush and full of resources gets corrupted, who is going to care? If its chaos maybe those planets are being used to make these devices. Those mind control things spread so fast i wouldn't be surprised if they had infected a ton of local planets too... and then they jump on board ships that can take the devices around the galaxy...

Florencia, after regaining her balance, seems to agree, the two walking off, talking the entire time.

You make your way over to where Filigree and the Mechanicus are working. You notice the two sororitas sisters sitting quietly on a nearby piece of rubble, watching the mechanicus work with a mild fascination.

Filigree looks up when you get near, bounding over to you. "You wouldn't believe what we've found!"

Strewn about were parts of all shapes and sizes, each one tinted a slightly different metal. "It does have a warp drive in it." she tapped a box. "But here's the thing... its body is meant to absorb heat and pressure and convert it into energy to power it. Dropping it from orbit is literally what activates it! A good chunk of it was badly damaged by your sword, and we're still working on that."

    She smiled sheepishly.

I suggest beginning a passive feel of the area and people within, try and pick up the emotional states that people are emitting and see if there are any inconsistencies between the emotion and what we are getting from them with our other senses.
Okay, the Mechanicus are likely pure if they have come from our vessel as they would have to be cleared by the inquisition.
The drop pod came from which vessel, I can't remember but there is a significant hint. As it probably also dropped the second generator.

The drop nature of the device suggests that is was initiated while we were cleansing the ship since the outbreak happed on the planet after we cleansed the ship suggesting it was in flight at the same time.
Options; A member of the Sororitas that hasn’t gotten over the radio daemon thing. Unlikely since those there were probably very thorough in eliminating the thing.

So, the device is a modified warp drive, as the anons suggested earlier. Is it just a manner of removing some safety features to get the portal to stay open, or is it more involved than that?

With several ships in orbit, shouldn't one of them have logs of some sort showing a large object like this pod dropping to the surface? If they do, we should be able to determine where it came from.

Also, the Canoness Florencia mentioned that the warp was extremely unstable during her voyage to the planet. As I recall, we noted some disturbance in the immaterium when we arrived as well, so that might be getting worse on its own due to the increased activity of Chaos. Alternatively, it could have been caused by the presence of one of the portal devices on our ship weakening our Gellar field, in which case there is/was likely a more powerful version of the same device on Florencia's ship. When, exactly did her ship arrive in the course of the events, as Sororitas ships clearly have the ability to drop things from orbit.
    >> Anonymous 10/14/10(Thu)02:29 No.12438067
    >>12437998

Also, I think we should act suitably pleased with the analytical skills displayed by the twin seraphim. Then, see if we can get any information from them that might serve to corroborate the idea that the presence of one of the portal devices on a ship might serve to weaken its Gellar field in some way.

What attributes to the several ships that we know to have had such devices share?
    >> His Divine Power 10/14/10(Thu)02:31 No.12438092

I just got back, so all of the earlier Ad Mech traitor stuff wasn't me. It just occurred to me that a device that opens portals to the warp might account for the increased warp activity we/Florencia felt when traveling.

You'll forgive me for continuing to believe that devices that summon batches of daemons don't just show up on vessels of the Imperium without some sort of treachery, though.

Returning to chapter one, it does seem likely that infection by the entities that were possessing people on the planet where Tessa and Esme had their trial is the most probable way that whoever created and planted the devices did so. The creatures were infecting Engineers on the Sororitas vessel, and such men would clearly know a considerable amount about warp engines and their modification. That only makes it more important that we determine from what point the pod originated, on my view, since there may be infestation of some sort there.

Do we have access to any cogitators/logic engines/auspex scans that we can use to determine the origin of the device?

I presume he's one of the principal antagonists. This doesn't feel like the direct involvement of such high-level characters, to me, though. It's almost certainly events that he had a hand in planning, because our other main opponent, Miriael Sabathiel, doesn't strike me as the type to come up with a plot like this.

I get the impression that the overall plot goes something like this: The tendrils travel through communications of the non-psychic sort, and try to infect engineers or others with technical knowledge capable of altering warp engines to open and sustain portals into the immaterium. Once they know that this is possible, as evidenced by the successful nature of these tests, they have only to wait until a sufficient number of individuals are controlled (likely very many, since it's been 6-8 months since part one) then all of these individuals can potentially open portals to the warp simultaneously, potentially causing a large-scale warp incursion across a vast area of the Imperium. Further, if they can convert small drives, what's to stop them from converting, say, the drive of capital ships of the navy, which could sustain portals of inconceivably vast size.

Disclaimer: This is just a theory. It needs confirmation/more evidence.

So if we take that as the 'how', who's the 'who'? People who are infected, certainly, but it seems like we are supposed to be able to figure out more than that.

They can travel over radio signals, so if any infected ship had gone to a major spaceport or naval base, there could be a very large amount of infected ships, and it's safe to assume that all of the ships in this system have some level of infection, since they have, presumably, been communicating to coordinate the battle against the demons.

chaos wants to take over the world. Chaos can do that easily without going through all this trouble.

what we're dealing with is a string of events that all relate to one another.

we know that the tendrils control the people and the people make the portal generators.

I think the initial portals in the pod were a red herring. Like chaos was testing the device.

OP mentioned that its powered by heat and pressure. OP also stated that it had a spiked front. I dont know maybe its supposed to burrow? spawning portals across the planet and one huge one above it

yeah i'm gonna go sleep now too i'm really tired. I'll be back in 4 or 5 hours. everyone get some sleep and do some thinking.

Try not to post too much or just start a new thread to discuss in so that this one doesn't start autosaging and 404 before I get back

Given up caring because if it is the stupid infection there is no point trying to stop it or find out who as there are too many radios involved and the infection is too pervasive. Since the Sororitas ships are not protected by tech priests who would protect the radio channels, radios and ship in general from the infection then they are both stuffed and need to be blown out of the sky.
If it's the engineer who disapeared down the hole with the creature, again their ship has been compromised and needs to be detroyed.
Finally: you've basically created a weapon that is unstoppable since it travels through the radio and ignores all the tech priest protections and wards that are placed upon all items to protect them from corruption. I think if that was the case Chaos wins regardless.

    Oh well: sleep now

The infection isn't the weapon. Its just the method for making the devices that make the portals.

    Okay, back
OP- this may seem obvious to you, but we're working at this backwards.
So the radio infection isn't the weapon, merely a means of spreading it.
So, obviously we're looking for something or someone capable of calling the warp down and STARTING the infection then
    >> THAT ONE GUY WHO went to bed 10/14/10(Thu)11:09 No.12440960
    >>12440717
So like, hrmm, the devices are constructed by those who are infected by chaos.
And the spread of chaos itself is linked to an outside party.
    >> THAT ONE GUY WHO went to bed 10/14/10(Thu)11:19 No.12441014
    >>12440717
Well, we know that the initial infection was spread by the warp storm, and we also know that the everything else bad that's happened has come about because of that.
We also know that the warp is now very turbulant around this planet.
Shit, does this mean warpstorm imminent?
What should we do in that case-evacuate? Is there anyway to prevent it?

There are no additional worms. the worm infected people would not make a good army

its a doomsday scenario. also I think the same person who figured out the worms is close to the answer >>12438744

just based on that you'll save more than several named characters from annihilation.

ANNA. SISTER. FUCKING. ANNA. The one who had the Emprah-damned warp tendrils burrowing into her brain for 10 minutes!
We thought we saved her in time, but the infection has just been hiding since then.

So, wait, are suggesting that, because this thing turns heat and pressure into warp activity, like, there may be one digging its way to this planets core?

No, probably not, it was dropped from orbit
Hrmm- we're told that is formed from rather crude metals made planetside.
    What does this tell us?

    I GOT IT?
    HOLY SHIT!
Okay, why would it do that?
It would do that to take the heat and pressure that I assume are at the heart of this planet and use it to, hrmm, open one FUCKHUEG portal that would let the warps influence affect things on a planetary scale?

Didn't the guy just say to use the heat and pressure of the earths core to create more isntabillity in the materium and let chaos fuck things around on an even grander scale?
If it isn't that, then what is it?
Could it be that the planet is going to implode then?
Is chaos looking to actually physically destroy the planet by sapping it of it's energies?
