12 KB Guardsman Quest! Part 2! Uplifted Infantryman 10/06/10(Wed)14:09 No.12350366
    Part 1: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/12326310

You are Sargent David "Smoker" Hayter, member of the Jourian 12th Dragoons of the Imperial Guard. After surviving a brutal attack on your division by the nefarious Eldar, you began your quest to find humanity, and get off this mudball alive.

On your way you found Corporal Hal Emmerich, a member of your old fire-team before the attack, and Private Sheila Taggardt, driver of the Scout Salamander "Evaline".

When we last left our motley crew, they had just loaded the heavy weapons they had found in the abandoned armoury onto Evaline, and were about to head off to the co-ordinates the final order before the death of the commanding officers specified.

    Let's Rock.

"Yeah?" You respond, raising an eyebrow and putting a Lho stick in you mouth, before reaching for your lighter. "What is it?"

"Well, you just said 'Let's Rock.' Before spacing out for a minute, sir."

"Oh." You reply, lighting your Lho. "Well, we know where we're going. We should get moving. You got the heavies in yet?"

"Yes sir!" Sheila shouts, as she heaves the final box of ammunition, namely the one holding the missiles for the missile launcher, into the back of the Salamander.

As you sit down and strap yourself in in the passenger seat up front, Sheila straps herself in behind the controls. Whilst you're usually fairly unflappable and stoic, the sight of Sheila's face as she starts up Evaline terrifies you beyond all belief.

"Strap in tight everyone. We're going there fast, and we're not stopping for anything short of the Emperor himself."

"Smoker?" Hal shouts from the back. "I'm scared."

After a very bumpy ride, you arrive at the co-ordinates.

But the sight you see is anything from hope-inspiring. About ten bodies are scattered in the clearing, all of them with the markings of the 12th Jourian Dragoons.

However, what intrigues you is the fact that not all the bodies seem to have been attacked by Eldar. There are other, more explosive bullet holes in other bodies.

Looks like you have more to worry about than just Eldar.

You don't find any survivors, but you do get to take a closer look at the wounds. Only two of the bodies seem to have been killed by Eldar. The others seem to have been killed with Solid-Projectile weapons, and some of them looked like they were hacked to death with some sort of cleaver.

"Thank you very much Mr. Higgins. We'll take these two with us." You smile, Lho-stick bobbing as you talk.

"Thank you very much Sargent. These two have been nothing but trouble." He sighs.

"Evaline this is Smoker do you copy?" You speak into the Comm-Bead.

"Evaline coming in for extraction Smoker over and out." Sheila replies, and over the Comm you can hear the engine revving into action.

"Hal?" You sub-vocalise, "Is it just me or is that woman a bit... Off?"

"What do you mean sir?" Hal sub-vocalises back.

"Something about her just seems a bit off is all." You reply.

"Don't know what you're on about Smoker."

"If you say so sir. Also, what kind of trouble did these two cause? If I may ask."

"Well, Sargent, these two would not stop asking me what I was doing. You'd think soldiers would think better than to ask questions whilst a man is extracting a bullet from a man's side, but apparently not." He replies, giving Private Katy the evil eye.

Except there are major differences. HP is a gameplay mechanic, one that is necessary in all sorts of games because to have an actual injury system would require a ridiculous amount of complexity that would slow the game down by a ridiculous amount. Using clip wrong is not a gameplay mechanic.

Also, clip's wrong use does not have it's roots in 40k, or DH. It pre-dates both. I also do not believe that clip is even a part of 40k, rather it's a part of Dark Heresy because the author didn't know what the fuck he was writing.

Eh, we're headed there? But should we? I mean there's only five of us!

Maybe if there are other settlements that the soldiers know of instead? At least to try gathering reinforcements?

Not necessarily Orks. Chaos is here. For all we know there could be some CSMs on planet.

We're HALF a squad! We need more people if we're going to be effective at all.
Besides, we need to find an officer so our battlefield promotion can be made official and we can lord over Keldo with it.

"Smoker," Hal murmurs after Perry and Keldo have stopped paying attention, "why are we headed towards a known hostile territory?"

"Because we need more Promethium to fuel Evaline, and we're going to see about doing it stealthily." You reply.

You then pester Sheila about going faster. Once again you are slammed into the dashboard.

For the record, it was me, the supposed troll, that posted u mad bro. I noticed it but there's not a whole lot to debate with that, nor am I going to just leave people being wrong because someone yelled at me in caps.

You may think I am a troll, but I just want people to use English correctly. There is no reason to degrade our language into something less as time goes by. You gain absolutely nothing from using the term clip over mag. But people do it anyways. And it's becoming so widespread I'm afraid that clip will replace magazine altogether to the common person within a few generations. As more people use clip, more businesses start to use clip instead of magazine, and then more common people think it's clip because they see that. Bungie calls magazines a clip in their games that are played by millions, especially young kids. And if these people grow up thinking clip is right, and then they have children who learn that clip is right, who will know that magazine is right other than the minority that knows how a gun actually works?

So please, don't be stubborn. Think of the children sixty years from now, and make sure they speak a language that isn't infinitely more retarded and less descriptive than we speak now.

'Sheila, before I empty an entire CLIP into you....'

'Also, Perry, keep that clip of ammunition in your longlas. You'll be our spotter. Is there a working scope on your gun?'

I still think we shouldn't be headed back for Daybank though. Incidentally, how do the two soldiers look?

good point, that. of course, if there were CSM running about, we're in a considerable spot of trouble.

... well maybe we can ask the soldiers about it. if it's a cult attacked them and they managed to escape, surely they saw some.... things? reassure them that we will not report this.
    >> Anonymous 10/06/10(Wed)18:40 No.12352795
Well, we DO need the Promethium. We just need to do this... carefully.

Sidenote: Lasguns of all types use charge packs, not magazines.
    >> Frosted Weasel !!dLUhj2yYgMt 10/06/10(Wed)18:41 No.12352797
Team division. Perry and Keldo are fire support. Smoker and Hal are assault. Sheila is... there. Mostly driving of the salamander and fire-support from it's mounted weapons. Does that solve the heavy weapon team issues?
    >> Anonymous 10/06/10(Wed)18:41 No.12352802
    >>12352795

But civilian autoweapons do use magazines, which is where this discussion originated.

This sounds all right. Perry can do heavy weapons spotting when she's not sniping, herself.

Nonetheless Sheila might need to be careful of the two. This is... not settling.

Also, WHERE ARE WE HEADED ARE WE REALLY GOING STRAIGHT BACK TO HIT A FULL CULT?

Perry is Chaos and will shoot us in the back.
Also I don't want Keldo to shoot us either. He's not happy with our 'promotion'.

I say Perry's an Ork in disguise.

A rather sporting disguise I might add.

    Quite the plot twist.
    >> Uplifted Infantryman 10/06/10(Wed)18:46 No.12352853
The Salamander pulls up to the outskirts of Daybank at around nightfall. As the darkness increases, you divide yourself into teams. "Perry, I want you to stay here and watch the Promethium station through the LongLas. If you see anything, tell us on the Comm Bead. We'll get out of there, Pick you up, and run for it. Keldo, you're going to be Heavy Weapons. If we can't make a run for it, we will blow up as much shit as we can that'll allow us to make a run for it. Me and Hal will take general assault, and Sheila will handle Evaline. Got all that?"

In the familiar chorus, all of the group shouts "Sir yes sir!"

    "Good. Now, let's rock."

I don't trust Perry worth a damn. With Keldo, giving him the sidearm like I said before, let's him be armed with something he can use at close range, say if his spotter turned on him. Sheila wouldn't be set up with the heavy weapons, in any case. It would be dismount, move on foot to SBF and assault positions, and if shit gets nasty, call in Evaline. Giving Keldo the sidearm is also a sign of trust.
