!vf05RX1JTQ 10/04/10(Mon)21:04 No.12330261>>12330249 "Several hundred years ago, when this city was the literal pirate haven it is only reputed to be now, the first two Sealords, men by the name of Francisco and Drake, were the two most powerful pirates in the area. For reasons unknown, they decided to ally, and lead all the pirates of the port on a three month raid of the Continent, sacking towns, demolishing navies, and looting merchants up and down the coast, from the Floating Islands of the north to the Shattered Sea in the south.
"After more than three months, the returned, raid succesful. Common tale holds that they had so much plunder they could have replaced every ship they lost in solid gold, had they so desired. To stay succinct, as I doubt you have the interest in history I do, they later fought viciously for control of the city, Drake, who's name has been mutated to 'drac' over the years, eventually victorious, but, even mostly legitimate as the town is now, they still celebrate the return of that fleet, annually, shutting down the entire port for two days in the crudely-named 'Swagfest'."
"A day to party and a day to recover." you observe, earning a smile.
"Quite. Among other things, though, aspirants to the Council of High Captains, the city's ruling body," she offers by way of explanation, "Often utilize these days as time to make an name for themselves, ingratiate themselves with the populace, often by supporting or funding the festivities. In fact, a trader captain by the name of 'Lydon' is planning to make his bid for the Council."
There is a pause as she finishes, and you consider her words, predicting where she is going with this. |
