    Sup /tg/

Holy fucking shit have I got a story for you.

    What has come before:
    Part 1:
    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/8483458/

    Part 1.5:
    http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/10032392/

Get ready for the long-awaited finale of the second installment. Updates will come as I write them, here we go.

So where we last left off, the party had just won a huge game of Blood Bowl over the reigning champs and caused a huge upset in the Undermine gambling rings.

As the players were exiting the stadium as fast as they possibly could, a riot was brewing among the viewing audience, who were also well into kerrathil

(cocaine) withdrawal, due to the party having depleted the dwarven stockpiles of the drug prior to the Blood Bowl match.

The party takes to the streets after all but Saburo and Knock change out of their leather blood bowl gear, and haul ass back to the hideout amidst the

shouting of disgruntled angry blood bowl fans. Gregor and Evennia are left to get out of the stadium on their own devices, but the party hears overwhelming

chants of "D-B! D-B!" (the Halfling's dwarven alter-ego) emanating from the stadium.

Edgar sends his mechanical owl homunculus into the sky to survey the area, and discovers that the angry mob is now overrunning parts of town near the

stadium, starting fires, and entering a full-stage riot. Military intervention will surely come soon, so Edgar attempts to call Bartholdy on the pocketwatch

communicator, but recieves no answer. He instead sends the owl skyward to the upper city, hoping to deliver a message to Bartholdy directly. As the owl flies

toward Bartholdy's estate, Edgar sees the constructs that inhabit the city are still strangely silent and immobile. Simultaneously, the party reaches their

hideout, and as they do so, Saburo is struck with a horrific psychic noise emanating from the beacon. It sounds like the worst microphone feedback

imaginable, and causes him to reel from the shock. The sounds dissapates after a minute and returns to a low psychically-audible hum, but Edgar, who is still

controlling the owl, sees the constructs in the upper city suddenly start to move again.

However, the constructs are not capable of moving very well. Edgar sees them fall over, walk into walls, and start struggling on the ground; they appear to

be mindless and infantile after recieving that fucked-up signal. The owl then lands on Bartholdy's balcony, and places a rose from a nearby vase on the

ground before leaving. After the party collects themselves and discusses the events, Gregor and Evennia return to the hideout. So the gang appears to all be

assembled... but where is Estaad? Cookie shrugs and informs the party through pipe smoke that he believed Estaad was with Gregor and Evennia, but this was

    not the case.

Al'Sham does some crafty spellwork in attempt to locate Estaad, and discerns the direction which leads to him. The party moves out to collect their ally, as the sounds of a distant angry mob wash over the portland district of Undermine. They don't have a lot of time before the rioting mob is upon them. However, while following Al'Sham's locate person spell, they come across a mindless automaton which appears to be walking into a wall. The party moves closer to investigate, and as they do so, the automaton falls flat on its face and struggles on the ground in a walking motion.

The Halfling immediately moves in to disable device and pops open a panel on the back of the construct's head. Inside are a multitude of glowing crystals arranged in a circuit-like fasion. The construct's visor can be seen through this panel, and Al'Sham detects magic on the crystals, revealing that these crystals emit some sort of "containment field".

However, the halfling has no patience for this and immediately starts digging his daggers around in the head, breaking off crystals left and right. The construct's movements diminish to a standstill, but the visor plate is still glowing blue. The party then moves on, as the locate person spell leads them to the Crow's Foot Tavern. Inside, they discover their comrade, Estaad, drunk off his ass and dancing a jig for a large crowd of people. Suddenly realizing that the dwarves spike the food and beer of this city with Lethe (an amnesia-inducing liquid), they pull Estaad out of there. Estaad cannot seem to remember the party, which is just as well, because the Halfling knocks him out cold, and Saburo slings him over his shoulder and they high-tail it back to the hideout. Along the way, the Halfling, Edgar, and Al'Sham pause to analyze and dissect another construct.

Back at the hideout, Estaad is incoherent, incapable of remembering anything about the events of the day, and subsequently passes out. Al'Sham takes his wand of cure light wounds and attempts to cure Estaad, but realizes that this would not affect Estaad's apparent INT ability damage due to drinking lethe-spiked beer. The Halfling then takes the wand and decides to shove it up Estaad's ass as a punishment. Estaad groans but remains asleep; the rest of the party is disgusted, except for Edgar, who is slightly turned on. Al'Sham exclaims "You can keep that wand now."

After spending the night in the hideout, the party rouses. Saburo, who does not need a full night's sleep, has been meditating on his sword and monitoring the signal from the beacon, which only he can sense due to being psychically aware. Edgar recieves a call from Bartholdy, congratulating them on their blood bowl performance, and that the ensuing riot caused a great deal of trouble for the Dwarves. Bartholdy also informs the party that they may be contacted by the dwarves in desperation, seeking out this "D.B." Al'Sham and Edgar discuss the possibility of capturing several constructs and seeing if they can be 'repurposed' to suit the party's needs; after all, Edgar is a skilled artificer. The party achieves as consensus and moves out into the city to try and collect a downed construct.

However, the aftermath of the riot is immediately apparent. During the night, many fires were started, with smoke still visible over parts of the city. Broken windows and shattered doorways are everywhere, as the streets themselves appear to be deserted. Shouting and scuffling is heard off in the distance, and the party notices several busted up constructs lining the streets, all leaking Lethe from their carapaces. Apparently the rioting crowd had taken to the constructs like Tigers fans flipping cars after a home win.

The party progresses through the city, looking for active constructs to harvest, when they come upon a military patrol with a large horse-drawn cart. The cart is laden with four constructs, and the patrol appears to be collecting downed constructs. Al'Sham ducks into an ally and disguises himself and the Halfling as a military officers, but is too hasty and doesn't complete the illusion as well as his previous work. The rest of the party hides as Al'Sham and the Halfling approach the patrol. Al'Sham attempts to tell the commanding officer that he will be taking over and to report to a nearby location.

However, Al'Sham's disguise is not quite good enough, as the officer notices that he outranks the disguised Al'Sham, and angrily inquires as to this man's identity.

But the Halfling has run out of patience and immediately shanks the commanding officer. Saburo follows suit by running out from hiding and slashing the guard driving the cart. Joseph Knock plugs the third patrolman with several arrows, and Al'Sham disables the officer, who is then finished off by the party. The party quickly boards the cart, and the Halfling pops into the driver's seat. With an incredible ride check, wheels it around and begins driving off with four robots in tow.

But then things get tense. Knock turns around and notices that three horsemen armed with crossbows are now giving chase, with one shooting a red signal flare into the sky. Edgar sends his owl skyward, and notices another signal flare going off nearby in reaction to the first. The Halfling turns the cart into a sidestreet, as the party disembarks from the cart. Joseph Knock agilely hops off the cart, wallruns up a close building and handplants on the roof (nat 20 reflex). Al'Sham jumps off the cart and faceplants on the sidewalk (nat 1 reflex).

The three horseman turn the corner and open fire with crossbows. Edgar is hit once, but the party returns fire. With swords. Saburo runs forward and with a dashing slash, mortally wounds one of the riders. Joseph Knock looses arrows at the second rider, while Al'Sham picks himself up and delays his standard action, and Edgar attempts to scan the area with the owl. The Halfling jumps up and throws a dagger, finishing off Saburo's target. As the horsemen continue to charge, Al'Sham casts Halt on the second rider's horse, freezing it in its tracks. The rider falls flat on his face. The third rider then changes direction and fires another flare skyward. Edgar's owl sees more flares shooting up across the city.

Edgar relays this information, and everybody piles back on the cart. Al'Sham casts fog on the intersection where this scuffle just took place, as the Halfling tear-asses through the city streets. Rather than lead their pursuers back to the hideout, Edgar believes he knows someone who might be able to help them hide for a bit. The team pulls into a back-alley garage owned byvbg Incredible Eddie (a local metalworker and black-market fence). Al'Sham attempts to butter up Incredible Eddie, and drops the name of their Echelon contact, Maxwell Bartholdy. Eddie suddenly lights up and sees dollar signs. He offers to hide their robot cargo for a fee of 50 gold. The party is convinced to accept his offer when shouts of "They went that way!" are heard outside. The garage doors close, and the military patrols pass by without incident. Al'Sham then gets the idea of asking Eddie to see if he can weld cannons the constructs they have stolen. Eddie scoffs, as he has limited ability to procure a cannon, much less gunpowder, but will see what he can do for the right price. The party then takes their leave.

Now Edgar (through owlvision) happened to catch a glimpse of similar carts hauling constructs into the gates of Undermine. Upon informing the party, they decide to have a look for themselves and enter Undermine to see where the military is taking the disabled constructs. The party members disguise up and stealthily creep into Undermine, only to be met with the remnants of last night's riot... which is apparently still in full-tilt.

The military is having a hard time containing the rioting civilians, which all seem to be concentrating on the mansions of the dwarven pimp-kings themselves. Military police on horseback ride forward in attempt to crash through the ranks and drag people out, only to be forced back under a hail of rocks, bottles, and thrown weapons. The throng is shouting "WE WANT D.B.!", "PAY US!", and other obscenities in unison. The party chooses to leave, and Edgar sends the owl out to locate more carts full of constructs. The owl is successful and sees a line of carts taking constructs to a large building on the far side of Undermine. The party ventures through alleys, crowds, and avoids patrols until they arrive at the warehouse. Two guards are manning the side entrance, as are several patrolling officers on horseback. Then the Halfling concocts an idea. If they can infiltrate this warehouse, the party will be able to plant explosives (they have many blast disks) and demolish hundreds of constructs in one fell swoop. Edgar pipes up and recalls that as an artificer, he can imbue constructs with a certain spell (FIREBALL.), and trigger the spell remotely with a use-magic-device check. After refining their plan, Al'Sham disguises himself and Edgar as scientists from the Beacon (the facility which broadcasts the construct-controlling signal), and they both approach the door.

With the rest of the party hiding in the shadows, Al'Sham and Edgar approach the two door guards, who appear to be relieved to see two Beacon scientists. The guards offer their thanks for the assistance of scientists, and inform them that another scientist is already inside. Al'Sham and Edgar enter to see rows and rows of constructs strapped to wooden plinths. This appears to be a storage facility to temporarily hold the malfunctioning constructs. Al'Sham spots the aforementioned beacon scientist on a catwalk overlooking the constructs, while Edgar goes to work imbuing constructs with a Fireball spell. Al'Sham walks up the stairs to the other scientists, and engages him in banter about what they're doing. The scientist exclaims that he's been working here through the night, and can't figure out what's wrong with the constructs. He says that the lifts that run between Undermine and Echelon are also not working, and that he was stuck down here. Al'Sham tells the scientist that he and Edgar are here to relieve him and that he can go home. Meanwhile, Edgar turning five constructs into gigantic bombs. However, Edgar notices that as he works, the constructs begin to take notice of what he is doing. By the time he finishes, the gaze of each construct is fixed on him as he walks the corridors. Suddenly, a clattering noise is heard from the front gate. Al'Sham sees that a cart overloaded with constructs has broken and several constructs have fallen to the floor, with a silvery liquid leaking out from each. The scientist turns to Al'Sham and says "Heh, that's your problem now. I'm out of here."

Shortly after the scientist leaves, Al'Sham and Edgar also head out, explaining to the guards that they need to acquire some more equipment before attemping repairs. The party regroups, and discusses when to blow up the building. Suddenly Edgar recieves a call from Bartholdy: "You all need to get up to Echelon immediately. Something is happening at the beacon. Get out of Undermine!" Edgar replies that the lift stations aren't working. Bartholdy responds, "Then you'll have to use one of the personal lifts owned by the Dwarves!" The party looks off in the distance, and sees that a large track connects a distant building to the ceiling of Undermine. Smoke billows from around the house, as chants and shouts of "D-B! D-B!" are heard coming from that direction. Joseph Knock exclaims, "It's time for D.B. to lead his people."

Al'Sham disguises the Halfling as D.B. as the party concocts a plan: Al'Sham and Edgar will remain close to the warehouse, while Knock, Saburo, and the Halfling attempt to secure entrance to the nearest Dwarven Pimp house. Edgar will be monitoring the situation with his owl, and wait for a signal to blow the warehouse (Al'Sham: "DRAMATIC TIMING IS EVERYTHING!").

So Saburo, D.B. and Knock swagger through the streets to the house of Thuggin Ramses. As they approach the house, many people are running past them, attempting to get away from the military... until some of them notice D.B.

    "It's D.B.!" "Holy shit, it's D.B." "EVERYONE, D.B. HAS RETURNED!"

The people running away from the riot suddenly gather behind D.B. as the growing force moves towards the house of Ramses. D.B. acts nonchalant and pretends to not notice these people as he moves forward. Saburo bellows "TOUCH D.B. AND DIE."

The scene as they all arrive is thus: A large military force is beating their way through a crowd of people, with some soldiers mounted on horseback, and others on the ground in riot gear.

But when D.B. arrives on the scene, the crowd rallies and pushes the soldiers back. Suddenly the soldiers are sandwiched between an angry mob, and an angry mob led by D.B., Saburo, and Knock. The crowds are ferociously yelling and chanting, as Saburo lifts D.B. onto his shoulders. The soldiers visibly shit themselves. D.B. shouts "I'm sure you all want your money, well so do I. So move." The foot soldiers scatter and run, as the mounted soldiers shoot crossbow bolts into the crowd randomly. A quarter of the crowd chases off the remainder of the forces and a path clears for D.B. to move to the steel door of the house. Edgar's owl sees three flares shoot up, and they decide to get moving. One of the guards sees them and warns "Three flares just went up! You scientists better get out of here now!" Al'Sham and Edgar run for a bit, but hide to wait for the signal to blow the building.

Meanwhile back at the House of Ramses, the crowd is becoming more violent, demanding the blood of Thuggin Ramses. A small slidehole opens on the door, as a timid man looks out and sees D.B. The man squeaks out that he will let them in if they can send the crowd away.

Joseph Knock then gives the signal to Edgar's owl flying overhead.

A resounding cacophany of arcane explosion echoes through the caverns of undermine, as a fiery plume rises into the air from what was once a construct storage facility. Hundreds of flares pop up all over the city; Edgar and Al'Sham start bookin' it towards the rest of the party; and the crowd outside the House of Ramses disperses in sheer terror. Saburo suddenly notices that the signal from the Beacon has reactivated in a massive pulse of psychic activity. Something is definitely happening up top.

The door swings open as D.B., Saburo, and Knock enter. They stand in a large foyer with two curving staircases that lead to a second floor balcony that

overlooks a massive golden statue of a dwarf pouring a beer into a fountain at the base of the statue. The butler heads to the wall behind the statue and

opens up a secret door. Edgar and Al'Sham arrive and Knock lets them in. The butler returns with three dwarves, two orcs, and the lizardman from the Blood

Bowl match. The Lizardman is heavily bandaged and bruised. He also appears to be missing an eye. One of the dwarves they recognize as Gangstrom, who seethes

at the sight of the party. Thuggin Ramses croaks out "W-What do you want..." Wasting no time whatsoever, D.B. says "We're using your lift. Move."

The party is led through the secret door into what appears to be a panic room. Further down a hallway is a small chamber with an open-air elevator car at the

base of a track. Noticing that the car only has room enough for about 10 people, D.B. turns to the nearest dwarf (who happens to be Fistbeard Beardfist), and

casually stabs him. At this, the lizardman enrages and charges D.B.

As this happens, Saburo hears his sword calling to him: "SLAY THEM ALL, TAKE THEIR ESSENCE!" Saburo clutches his sword, concentrates hard, and mentally shouts "BE SILENT." He steps to D.B.'s aid and decapitates the lizardman. The sword glows red as it slices through the lizardman; blood sprays out but is suspended in the air, and then absorbed into the sword. Saburo then resheathes the blade. Knock finishes off Fistbeard. D.B. coldy remarks to the shocked orcs, dwarves, and human "Not enough room. Everybody aboard." They board the tram, leaving Fistbeard to bleed out on the floor. As they ride up though, Gangstrom looks menacingly at D.B. and growls out "That was my BROTHER!" D.B., with the slightest trace of a grin on his face, states: "Would you like to join him?"

Gangstrom charges D.B., hitting him once with a dagger, but failing to do any real damage. The party makes short work of him and throws him out of the elevator car. The two orcs, Thuggin Ramses and the butler are cowering at this point, begging for their lives. The elevator car reaches it's destination and the party sends Ramses and his cohorts back down. They appear to be in the basement of a shop. After heading up to the top floor, they realize it's an antique shop. Al'Sham detects magic, and discovers some curious items: a black top hat granting +2 Charisma and +15 farming skill; a monocle that granted darkvision, and a pendant and two earrings which allowed for instantaneous communication between the wearers of each.

After acquiring these items, they ventured forth into the streets of Echelon. The citadel towers were a few blocks away; they were not very far from Bartholdy, but the streets before them were filled with panicked citizens running away as fast as they could. Looking into the distance, they saw the reason: the four enormous cranes which ferry cargo from Undermine to Echelon were erratically spinning around, picking up entire houses and dropping them hundreds of feet into the portland area below.

After the collective "OH SHIT" moment, the party began moving towards the citadel, only to turn the corner into a street occupied by two huge Enforcer constructs. The Enforcers had MASSIVE fists and legs, glowing red visors, and immediately noticed Edgar as the one who turned their comrades into piles of flaming slag.

The first Enforcer charged at the party, slamming its massive arm through a storefront as it ran, stomping the pavement beneath it into pebbles. Al'Sham attempted to dispel magic on the construct, but failed. Joseph Knock reached back and blasted forth with electrifying arrows, as the Halfling unsheathed his shocking daggers and engaged the constructs. Saburo dashed forward and slashed at the second enforcer. The second enforcer swung at Saburo, uppercutting him and sending him flying back a few feet. The halfling too, was hit by a massive uppercut, but managed to recover his ground a bit better. Edgar ran forward and made a touch attack (damage construct) to damage the second enforcer, dealing a huge amount of damage. Al'sham tried another Dispel magic, this time succeeding, and blew out the visor of the first enforcer, which started flailing wildly. Joseph Knock then wound up and fired a devastating shocking arrow volley at the second construct, penetrating its armor and sending Lethe spraying out behind it. Saburo and the Halfling dodged the Lethe spray magnificently, as they converged upon the first enforcer to destroy it. Saburo wound up and cut through the construct's midsection.

However, as his sword came into contact with the Lethe, something strange happened: Saburo suddenly was granted a vision, first he saw a fiery being toiling away at an anvil, forging a sword. Then he was given a glimpse of what appeared to be a battle between dragons, on one side silver dragons, on the other: red and black. Finally, this cut to a scene of total blackness, with a small light visible off in the distance... and the light slowly dimmed until it faded away completely, giving way to intense screaming that echoed through his mind.

Saburo snapped back to reality as he was completing his sword strike through the construct. He stumbles backward, reeling from the vision. He does not tell the party about it, and they proceed towards the citadel.

As they approach the gates, they see that the citadel is under attack by a multitude of constructs, currently being engaged by military forces. A cry of "FALL BACK!" is heard, as out from the gates emerges Bartholdy, who places a hand on the ground, and does a massive rock-to-mud; mud-to-rock, trapping the majority of the attacking constructs. He hails the party and tells them to quickly come with him. Bartholdy explains that the constructs guarding the citadel suddenly sprung to life and attacked, and verily, the party can see the results of the battle. The courtyard through which they are proceeding is littered with broken constructs, lethe, and dead soldiers. Buildings and walls look pretty damaged, but the constructs have been forced out of the citadel, and for the time being, the line has been held.

Bartholdy leads the party up into a meeting room, which is filled with military personnel, city administrators, and nobles; including head admistrator Kouris Lecht and Grand General Tharagan Ashford. The party learns that constructs from all over the city have been congregating at the Beacon, even using their bodies to form a massive wall around the Beacon itself, preventing anyone from gaining access and attacking anything that comes near. Bartholdy proposes that a task force be appointed to support the party as they mount an attack on the Beacon, as a small team stands a chance of infiltrating the facility and disabling the psychic antenna, rendering the constructs inert and harmless.

However the generals scoffed at the idea, saying, "This is a military affair, WE will be the ones to save the city!" The party did not contest this, instead opting to extend a friendly "Fuck you." to the generals as the party collectively exited the room. Bartholdy followed them out, saying "They're full of shit. They're not going to be able to do anything for this city, of that I am certain. Go to the Magisterium, it is likely undefended and under attack, but I do have a research project that I believe would serve you better than the military dogs I designed it for. Take this scroll," Bartholdy exclaims as he hands the scroll to Edgar, "it will allow you to enter my laboratory."

After pressing Bartholdy for more information, the party learned that Bartholdy was designing an armored transport for the military. With this transport, they will be able to break through the construct wall and enter the Beacon. However, before they leave, Edgar asks Bartholdy if any constructs are available for study, research, or anything that might be able to help them in the upcoming battles. Bartholdy thinks for a moment, and offers to give Edgar the use of one of his own personal mechanical golems, a construct that would be immune to the psychic pull of the Beacon.

So the party set off for the Magisterium. But not before stocking up on some choice military gear. They end up looting a Citadel Armory and making off with a number of magic items and amenities they had not been able to acquire previously (RoPs, Ammies, a fuck-big wand of empowered magic missile for Edgar, and a bunch of blast disks for the Halfling). They also ding level 10 (Saburo takes a level of Elocator, gaining the ability to float above the ground).

    Off to the Magisterium.

At the base of the citadel, Bartholdy (being a master of transmutation magic) releases one of his Golems into Edgar's service. The Golem's name is Olaf; he is finely crafted with ornate materials, and appears as a large man wearing a pin-striped suit and wide-brimmed hat. The party makes their way through the chaotic streets of Echelon, as robots rampage through neighborhoods and giant cranes rip apart buildings and toss houses into the fucking horizon. They reach the grounds of the Magisterium: before them is a large field crossed with walkways, in the middle of which is a large fountain of the university's founders. Three large buildings enclose these grounds, and a lone mage is standing in the fountain, struggling to fight off three constructs by himself.

That is NOT okay with Knock's rules. As the rest of the party attempts to enter the Transmutation Department building, Joseph Knock moves into range, and aids the lone mage (hereafter known as Frederick) by shooting at the closest construct. He blasts it with three attacks, for lethal damage, and it falls into the fountain, leaking Lethe everywhere.

However, as this happens, the sound of breaking glass and a scream is heard from up overhead, as a man falls from a broken window near the top of the Transmutation Department building. Those party members with especially keen eyes see a pair of metal hands extended from this window, and promptly withdraw. Saburo quickly moves to try and catch the falling man, but fails to get there in time, and the man splats into the ground. Suddenly, two more people are also thrown similarly out of windows and crash into the ground below. Out of these broken windows emerge three large constructs with four very long, flexible limbs attached to an "I" shaped body. They start crawling their way down the vertical face of the building. Combat continues with the two remaining constructs on the ground, and another one is downed. The party begins unloading on the three Flexer constructs which just joined the fray. They use their long reach to swipe at Saburo and the Halfing from a distance, but the party focus fires Flexer #1 and it starts looking pretty damaged; leaking Lethe from it's main body and teetering dangerously.

Just then, Flexer #2 shoots one of it's arms into a connecting socket on Flexer #1, and retracts the arms. Flexers 1&2 have now combined into a bipedial creatures with three arms. The party gasps as they realize that these constructs can interlock with each other for combined strength and resilience. Three attacks are unloaded from the transformed Flexer on Edgar, Saburo, and the Halfling. Flexer #3 makes it's move towards the three destroyed constructs from earlier, and attempts to patch pieces of their broken bodies onto itself. Al'Sham decides that he's had enough of this, and ventures into the Transmutation Department in order to retrieve Bartholdy's gift. However, when he gets to the door to Bartholdy's laboratory, he realizes that EDGAR has Bartholdy's scroll...

Thinking quickly, Al'Sham uses a spell to turn ethereal, and passes through the door, re-emerging on the other side. He is greeted with the most beautiful sight ever beheld by human eyes.

A large vehicle is before him. It is shaped like a massive fist, ornately inlaid with gleaming gold and white metal. The knuckles at the front appear reinforced, as though they could slam right through anything. He focuses his magical energy and the Fist responds by unclenching at the front, revealing an entrance into the vehicle. There is what appears to be a driver's station, with a joystick, and a panel of glowing crystals that appear to respond to magical influence. Al'Sham instinctively places his hand over the crystals, and the vehicle hovers a few feet above the ground with a low hum. The fist at the front clenches into a tight grip, closing the vehicle off. Al'Sham grips the joystick and pushes forward, the Fist accelerates and slams right through the wall of the building, powersliding out onto the green.

MEANWHILE, outside, the battle is still raging. The party members, along with Olaf and Frederick have managed to kill off Flexer #1, causing #2 to release it and fight them on its own. Flexer #3, however, is piecing robot parts together in attempt to reinforce itself. Those with keen eyes notice the lethe from the wrecked constructs creeping up the frame of Flexer #3. The party manages to finish off Flexer #2 by the time Al'Sham and the THE FIST careen into view. Lethe from the destroyed Flexer #2 splashes onto Edgar and Joseph Knock, who each take intellect damage from exposure.

A brief moment of clarity washes over the combatants before what is about to unfold: Al'Sham revs up the fist and SLAMS into Flexer #3 as hard as he can. Flexer #3 fucking SHATTERS and flies back about 50 feet, right through the fountain. Al'Sham unclenches the fist and allows the party to enter, Frederick exclaims that he has a scroll of restoration and can cure Edgar and Knock of their ability damage. Al'Sham drives the fist right through the nearest building to Frederick's office. Frederick gleefully cavorts in the mindless destruction, exits the fist, and returns with a scroll of restoration; he heals Edgar and Knock for most of their intellect damage, and the party is now on their way to punch through the construct blockade.

Pandemonium grips hapless onlookers as they see a gigantic, hovering, rocket fist tokyo-drifting through the streets of Echelon, on a collision course with some totally fucked robots surrounding the Beacon. Al'Sham and Edgar figure out how to divert more power to the levitation mechanism, as the glow from the crystals in the driver's panel start to fade slowly. Realizing that they only have limited power, Al'Sham floors it as he rounds the final corner onto the street leading to the Beacon. A massive wall of constructs has assembled itself off in the distance, and in front of this wall, the military has constructed a blockade, which has done little to stem the flow of constructs into the wall. Al'Sham hovers over the military blockade, slowly losing altitude as the power fades, but achieves maximum velocity along this stretch of road.

The Fist SLAMS through the construct blockade, exploding a hole in the wall and completely splattering constructs on contact. The Fist pulverizes the front door of the Beacon into splinters, and becomes lodged in the doorway. Al'Sham opens the front up, and the party exits the vehicle. The Halfling exclaims, "I will call this... Fisty."

They are now in the foyer of the Beacon.

A grisly sight greets the party. The foyer is littered with overturned desks, remains of broken bodies and shattered constructs. Pools of lethe and blood dot the floor, as the party discover signs that a fairly pitched magical and psychic battle have taken place here. Directly opposite the front door, across the foyer, is a doorway labeled "OFFICES", to the right of this is a curved hallway with two doors which say "ANTENNA", and further down the hallway is another door which reads "ENGINEERING". Al'Sham casts a mass Telepathy and Message on the party. They can now metagame at the speed of thought.

The party cautiously decides to enter the Office wing first. Al'Sham dons his darkvision monocle and cloak which enshrouds him in darkness, and stealthily creeps into the office wing. A large winding hallway wraps around the perimiter of the building, with offices on either side. Bodies are strewn across the floor, they appear to have been impaled, with lethe surrounding the outlines of the wounds. Their wounds look all the more horrific in the flickering light provided by insufficiently powered wall crystals. Saburo, listening intentively, hears a slithering sound coming from down the hall, but Al'Sham, who is far ahead, sees nothing. The rest of the party feverishly proceeds in, occasionally hearing strange sounds and seeing images that quickly vanish into darkness. Al'Sham, however, proceeds ahead, and the hallway in front of him is almost completely darkened, as the lights seem to be unpowered at this end.

The party begins to explore some offices as Al'Sham explores the hallway. They come across a break room that looks like it was barricaded from the inside; although the barricade has been swept aside, and bodies are slumped against the wall. They all appear to have the same kind of impalement wounds. Saburo searches an office and finds a manuscript on the desk. This manuscript appears to be the personal logbook of the scientist who first discovered Lethe. The page he finds details how the scientist discovered Lethe within an ore vein, how it was refined into a liquid, and responds to psychic stimulus. The journal closes with how the scientist (named Locke Reeve) stipulates that a construct can be created using Lethe.

Suddenly, Al'Sham hears a voice coming from around the corner of the hallway, "Help! Is anyone still alive? It's coming for me!" Al'Sham peers around the hallway, but sees nothing except dead bodies. A faint light is coming from what appears to be a sunken-in doorway, but he can't see anything from his distance. Meanwhile, Joseph Knock is investigating a supply closet, and discovers a vent grating that appears to have been torn from the wall. It is dripping with Lethe.

Edgar sends his owl into the vent to investigate, while Joseph exits the room and searches the walls for similar vents. Edgar's owl proceeds through the vent system, turning a corner and briefly glimpses a pair of glowing red eyes before being slammed into the wall and destroyed. Edgar jumps in fright, and Al'Sham, doubles back towards the party. The party starts freaking out, scanning the area, looking for signs of movement, until Joseph Knock hears a slithering noise coming from behind them. He turns the corner to the hallway through which they entered the office area, just in time to see a humanoid shape extracting itself from a vent shaft. It looks to be a decaying corpse with glowing red eyes, and is covered with Lethe. Joseph Knock readies an arrow in the surprise round and takes his shot at the creature, which reels from the blow, but then charges forward and slashes at Knock with it's arms. As the creature slashes, the Lethe covering its arms elongates, turns blade-like and hardens. It misses Knock, but then Saburo and the halfling are on the scene. Saburo cuts forward with a dashing slash, hitting the creature. The Halfling throws a dagger at the Lethe Zombie, but it's still standing. Al'Sham is still running back to where the party is located, and Edgar tells Olaf to attack. The Lethe Zombie strikes with a flurry of slashes at Saburo, hitting him once and causing him to take Intellect damage.

After another round of attacks from the party, the Lethe Zombie is dispatched, but Saburo is granted another vision as his sword cuts through the Lethe. He once again sees a grand battle of red and black dragons opposite silver-colored dragons. This time, he sees that some of the red and black dragons have swords attached to their wings, swords which bear a similarity to the one he is currently wielding. This time, the vision extends, and he sees a massive silver dragon take to the skies against the enemy army, only to be swarmed and cut down by the superior red and black dragons. As the large silver dragon falls to terra firma, a chasm opens up and the dragon falls into it. Hundreds of other silver dragons follow suit as they are slain in the air by their enemies. The vision ends with a small, far-off light fading against a backdrop of total blackness and screaming.

HOWEVER THIS TIME THE PARTY SEES THIS BECAUSE OF AL'SHAM'S TELEPATHY SPELL.

The party then proceeds to question Saburo about this vision. He explains what he saw before and how this is an extension of that vision. They make a note of it and head again down the hall. They come to the point where Al'Sham had extended furthest, and see that this hallway is lined with dead, impaled, bodies and spattered with blood. Careful to not get jumped by any more Lethe zombies, they head towards the faint light coming from the sunken doorway. As they turn to face the doorway, they see an ornately crafted heavy door with impact and slash marks all over it. A small hologram of a frightened man crouching behind a desk appears in front of the door. After the party convinces the man that they killed the Lethe Zombie, he lets them inside the office.

The man introduces himself as Theodore Howard, basically an intern at the beacon, and was cleaning this office at the time of the attack. The Lethe Zombie was attempting to enter this office through a vent when it was startled by Edgar's owl. This office belongs to Dr. Halion Sedge, the lead researcher at the Beacon. The party searches the office and cracks open the desk. In it, they find additional pages of the log book of Locke Reeve. From these pages, it is discerned that Locke Reeve underwent mental degradation as a result of working with Lethe, to the point where his handwriting and writing comprehension suffered. An additional document was found in the desk: it was a research study performed upon Locke Reeve.

It seems that Locke Reeve met an unfortunate fate when he was caught the explosion of a Lethe tank. He was institutionalized within the Beacon, where he was studied over the course of his recovery from lethe exposure. Midway through, they deduced that the exposure was terminal and instead decided to push the limits of Lethe poisoning by administering Lethe to Reeve through food and drink. Pages appear to be ripped out of this report.

At any rate, Ted Howard explains to the party that in order to deactivate the beacon, they must venture to the sub basements and deactivate (They hear "explode") the antenna on each level. However, the basement doors are magic locked, and they will require a special color-coded hand-tattoo carried by certain members of the staff to access the doors. The door leading to B1 has a handprint with a blue line. Al'Sham goes ethereal and poofs through the door, thinking he can disable it from the other side, but cannot. Thinking quickly, the party members head over the body of the Lethe Zombie and notice that it possesses a hand with a blue line tattoo on it. The halfling severs the hand and they open the door to B1.

After proceeding down a stairwell and through another door, the party entered a small 15x15 foot room. It appeared as though a massacre had taken place here. Several bodies were strewn about the remains of what looked like a destroyed barricade. The room was littered with desks, chairs and furniture; it looked as though this barricade was easily dismantled, as were the inhabitants of this room. Upon closer inspection, the bodies were discovered to have bled out from their facial orifices, leading the party to believe that they suffered brain hemorrhages.

The party then emerges from this room into another 2x2 square hallway which ended T-junction. Both hallways curve off at either end, and each are dimly lit with flickering, failing lights. Bodies are slumped against the wall. Al'Sham and Edgar begin searching through the hallways, searching bodies and finding random tools and power crystals that look similar to the lighting implements. However, Joseph Knock, for whatever reason, decides to make a bolt sprint through the left hallway, upon which, with large letters were written "<-- ANTENNA".

Knock's madcap dash ended near the front of the doorway to the antenna, where in his haste, he neglected to check for traps. A scanning blue line came down from the ceiling in a 2x2 square radius, turning red as it scanned over Joseph Knock. Immediately on each side of Knock, two doors in the hallway slid open, revealing two Enforcer constructs, each large enough to completely take up all space in the hallway.

Each construct takes a swing at Knock. He dodges the first, but the second connects squarely with his face. Knock is SLAMMED through the doorway to the antenna, where he crashes against a railing. He appears to be on a catwalk suspended above some greenish liquid. Around the room, various control panels with crystals sticking out of them are visible, as is the central antenna, which is a large cylinder off to the side of the room.

The rest of the party comes to Knock's aid, but Enforcer #1 moves in front of them to block the hallway, while Enforcer#2 is still in its little room. Saburo connects with a massive slash that cuts through the chestplate of Enforcer #1. The Halfling attempts to throw a dagger through the visor of the same Enforcer, but misses. Knock gets up and shoots arrows at Enforcer #2. Al'Sham then bursts forward and creates a major image that looks like Edgar right in front of Enforcer #2.

Edgar then buffs Olaf, and sends him in to fight against Enforcer#1 (ROBOT VS. ROBOT ACTION!) The two constructs tangle, with the new&improved Olaf coming out on top. Olaf wrestles Enforcer #1 and pushes it back down the hallway. Enforcer #2 charges forward to kill the major image of Edgar, and slams into the wall opposite its room. The party finishes off Enforcer #1, as Enforcer #2 moves into the hallway and scraps with Olaf. However, Olaf is a fucking robot god right now, and does not take shit from crazy berserk monsters. Saburo does a dashing slash, and ends up behind Enforcer #2. The Halfling attempts to tumble behind the Enforcer, but rolls abysmally low and fails. He throws a dagger and ends his turn. Edgar lets loose with a volley of empowered Magic Missiles, dealing incredible damage, and Joseph Knock lets loose with a barrage of attacks that end with a critical hit (houseruled to say shocking damage crits constructs on a 20).

Knock's arrow is pic related as it slams through the hapless construct, unfortunately splattering lethe all over his comrades who were behind it. However, they matrix that shit right up, and manage to avoid the lethe spray (especially since Olaf took the brunt of this spray and was unaffected).

The group enters the antenna room and begins mucking around with the controls to the antenna. The green liquid below them seems to be some sort of coolant

for the antenna. Edgar and Al'Sham manage to remove all the power crystals from the panel, and the Halfling decides to throw some blast discs for good

measure. They move over to the opposite wall, where they find a console that appears to control the lights for this floor. They power up this console with

some crystals, and presto, now they're lit.

They venture down to the opposite hallway, which forks into two doors. Saburo concentrates upon his sword, and is able to detect an immense psionic presence

of Lethe behind one of the doors. They all brace themselves for a battle, and send Olaf to fling open the door.

They have entered a laboratory. Off to the right wall are large tanks, presumably containing Lethe. On a lab table in front of them is a small figure,

dripping with lethe, with white glowing eyes. He appears to be eating Lethe off the table.

The Lethe Psion (s'what it is) hurls chairs, pieces of constructs, and other heavy objects across the room through the doorway at his assailants. Olaf blocks for the party, and Saburo slices through a chair. The Psion levitates into the air, dripping lethe onto the floor. Al'Sham casts Haste upon the Party. Saburo, with new elocator powers, bursts into the air and attempts to slash, but as Saburo is slashing, the blade slows down as it nears its target, and fails to hit, however Saburo feels as though he is tearing something away from the target. Joseph Knock then fires a barrage of extremely accurate arrows. The first two attacks slow down, similarly to Saburo's sword, but then pick up speed and strike the target. The third arrow is slowed to a standstill and falls in flight. The fourth attack (due to Haste) is parried away by a telekinetic brush of the Psion's hand. Edgar lets loose with a barrage of Magic Missiles, connecting for massive damage; while the halfling throws several daggers, all of which slow down and fall out of the sky. The Psion mind thrusts Saburo for a good amount of damage, and then throws more objects at the party, clocking the Halfing with a chair.

After another round of attacks, the party notices that their attacks are suddenly getting closer and closer to the psion, finally being able to hit him at progressively lower ACs. The Psion had a shield that boosted his AC to 39, but was reduced by 2 by each successive attack, down to a total of 25.

Suddenly getting low on the ropes, the Psion telekinetically crushes one of the lethe tanks, spraying lethe all over the room, and rips out a grate from the wall, intending to escape into the air ducts. But Al'Sham will have none of this. "HALT!"

The Psion fails his will save and crashes to the ground, where Saburo finishes him off.

The party explores the laboratory, finding additional pages to both the research study and Locke Reeve's logbook. The Logbook displays rapidly degenerating writing ability and ends with a poorly written entry about how Reeve was told about the explosion, which he could not remember. The research story continues telling about the experimentation conducted upon Reeve, and how Reeve degenerated into perpetually writing "Log Entry 67" into everything on his containment cell, scraps of papers that were given to him, and even carving it into his skin. Reeve's last entry prior to his accident was "Log Entry 66."

So the party WTFs themselves all around, and proceeds through the other door in the hallway, into a control room of sorts. Various parts of the Beacon are labeled on massive consoles with depleted power crystals sticking into slots. Al'Sham and Edgar attempt to decipher some of the finer points of this console, but are unable. They power up the door leading to the next room, seeing that it requires a handprint with a red line through it. They return back to the Lethe Psion, sever his hand (redline!) and march through the door, snagging a few more power crystals along the way.

    They venture down into B2.

Now the party is in the shit. They've survived their encounters with the Lethe stalker and psion, but shit is about to get real, some things are about to get answered. The group enters another curving hallway, and as they turn the corner, they see several bodies lying face-down in a pool of lethe at a T-junction in the hall. The Lethe is dripping from cracks in the ceiling and the wall, so the party is careful to move around. Edgar and Al'Sham acquire more power crystals from the bodies. To their left is what seems to be an unpowered door, to their right is a hallway that curves around a corner, around the corner is another puddle of lethe. They follow this corridor around, making sure to check for traps, and avoid Lethe. The hallway leads to another part of the antenna. The party stops for a listen at the door, and hears skittering inside the room. They formulate a plan, and Olaf busts open the door. To their surprise, they see a number of moderately sized spider-shaped constructs crawling over pieces of machinery and pipes around the room. The spiders do not react to the intruders, and appear to be repairing pieces of the antenna. Keeping their guard up, the party moves closer to the antenna.

The Halfling decides that now is the time for explosions. He takes some blast disks, and plasters them all around the base of the antenna. Al'Sham and Edgar take care to remove power crystals from the console first. As the group is leaving the room, the bombs go off, demolishing the antenna. Suddenly, the hallway lights turn red, and a door from the ceiling starts closing at the far end. Lethe starts pouring out of a vent at their end of the hallway, and they book it before the door can completely close. Everybody makes it except for Olaf and Edgar. Edgar is panicking as he notices that the door leading to the antenna appears to be welding shut, and the hallway is now filling with lethe. Edgar does an instantaneous enchantment on Olaf to increase his strength, and he punches his way clean through the door.

Before the party can even react to help Edgar, Olaf is ripping apart a blast door with his glorious metal hands.

The party moves on to the earlier unpowered door, finding a scientist shlumped against it, who appears to be still breathing. Before anyone can do anything, the Halfling stabs him. To end his suffering. It's just as well though, as restoring power to the door reveals a handprint with a black line, and the man has a black hand tatoo.

Seeing as the Halfling is apparently in charge of hand severing and distribution, he adds this man's hand to his collection, opens the door, and gives it to a group member. The group now finds themselves in a clean room. The room appears largely untouched, and has two sets of protective smocks, gloves, and boots on one side. Al'Sham and Edgar each don some protective gear, and venture through the other side.

This wing of the building appears to be a psych ward. Several padded rooms are on each side of the hallway, some of them with deceased occupants, others empty. One room has a heavily reinforced door that seems to have been severed from its hinges and is lying flat on the floor. In this room is a horrifying display of body parts and wrecked furniture, with the phrase "LOG ENTRY 67" scrawled all over the wall in blood, charcoal, and god knows what. Within this chamber, another leaflet of Locke Reeve's logbook is found.

It is Log Entry 67. A hideously garbled bunch of scrawled nonsensical words that childlishly attempted to explain a vision detailing dragons and a mysterious beautiful woman. It ends with the phrase "they are coming, all are doomed."

The group exits the room, only to find that at the end of the hallway is a stairwell that seems to be flooded with Lethe from a burst pipe. (Possibly damaged by a certain explosion.)

After some deliberation and attempts to see how deep the lethe is, it is decided that Olaf should venture downward and have a 'look'. Never mind that lethe is viscous and opaque, Olaf has magic eyes. I don't even need to explain that shit.

Olaf returns and reports that a drain cover is at the bottom of the stairwell, but is unpowered. Al'Sham tosses him a power crystal, and he heads back down. Several minutes later, a powerful drain clears away the lethe and the party ventures downward to B3.

They open the doorway with the scientist's black tattooed hand, and find themselves in a massive laboratory. Ahead of them is a large cylinder, extending from floor to ceiling. At the base of the cylinder, a large glass panel revealed a chamber filled with lethe. The party ventured into the laboratory, expecting something to jump out, but instead found only the following on the console in front of the antenna.

    A handwritten note.

These visions haunt my mind. I am going to her. One mind forever.
    -Halion Cornelius Sedge

Next to this note were the final two pages from the research journal study of Locke Reeve. The study revealed that Locke Reeve's insanity increased beyond the point of no return. The scientists ended up poisoning him with Lethe at incredible levels, and on the 52nd day of the study, Reeve suffered total cerebral shutdown. It was discovered through cross-studies with other 'patients' that Lethe does not induce amnesia, it absorbs the memories itself.

As the group continues to explore the room, Al'Sham notices that a human figure is pressed against the glass inside the Lethe tank.

Al'Sham alerts the group, and a search of the chamber reveals ladder rungs leading up to a sealed door near the top. Olaf is sent to open the door and retreive the body. He reaches inside the tank and pulls out the corpse of an elderly man with grey hair and withered skin. The man's expression is blank, and a search of his amenities reveals that he is the lead researcher, Dr. Halion Sedge. Driven insane by lethe-fueld visions of a beautiful woman, he decided to disconnect a bunch of shit from the antenna and climb in the vat, because he believed it would allow him to be with the woman who haunted his mind.

The group notices that he has a gold tattoo across his right hand. Across the room is a doorway with a gold handprint on it.

Before entering the doorway, the group retreives power crystals from several consoles. Al'Sham and Edgar get back into their combat gear, and the group proceeds to descend into madness.

The door opens with a puff of steam, as another stairwell leads further downward. At the base of the stairwell, a hallway extends to a final door. The party assembles their marching order and enters the final room.

The room is fairly large and rectangular in shape. The ceiling is about 15 feet high and covered with pipes and tubes across the whole length. The center of the room contains a single cylindrical chamber extending from floor to ceiling. The metal cylinder is connected to the ceiling by a large mechanical structure, with a pipe that connects to a tank mounted on the ceiling. Around the room are a multitude of control panels and tables, arranged in a way such that they surround this cylinder.

When all members enter the room, a blast door lowers from the doorway, sealing off their only exit.

The cylinder in the middle of the room opens and lowers, revealing a pulsating mass of extremely shiny mercurial lethe. Three pipes connect from the ceiling machine to the pulsating ball of lethe, as does a shaft extending in the middle of the three pipes.

The mass of lethe drops to the floor, spreading outward, and taking the a conical shape. The shaft extending from the machine above it seems to form a 'helmet' of sorts, beneath which a single red glowing eye emerges.

SPOILERS: EVERYONE ROLLS LIKE ASS ON INITIATIVE

Lethe Monster gets to go first. The machine above it starts whirring and making noise, as more lethe is pumped through the three tubes. Lethe spreads to cover more of the floor.

The monster focuses it's one visible eye on Al'Sham and their surroundings all black out, time seems to stop, as the monster engages Al'Sham in a battle of wills. It overcomes Al'Sham and invades his mind. Al'Sham is taken back to an incident at a tavern in his homeland. He is standing over the body of a man that only he recognizes, an onlooker exclaims, "You killed him..."

Suddenly reality snaps back, the memory is sucked from Al'Sham, and he takes intellect damage.

Lethe continues to spread on the floor. Al'Sham takes cover behind a console in the corner of the room and readies an action, the Halfling jumps to a table and throws his returning dagger at the lethe monster. Joseph Knock takes aim at the machine above the monster, puncturing it with several arrows, causing it to smoke and strain.

Saburo takes to the air, and unloads on the monster with a rising slash, ending his turn floating above the monster off to the side of the room. Edgar does a double move with Olaf to get in a better position.

The machine above the monster continues to pump more lethe onto the monster and into the room. It spreads to nearly all of the central area, surrounded by the consoles. Suddenly, the Lethe monster commands three tentacles to rise up out of the thickened lethe. The tentacles have reach, and attack enemies in range, but miss horribly on their first round of attacks.

The monster locks eyes with Saburo in a battle of wills, but Saburo steels his mind and is then privy to a vision of his own: "A beautiful woman overlooks a battle of dragons. Cut to a large silvery dragon taking to the sky in order to battle its enemies."

Reality snaps back, and then it goes back to Al'Sham, who notices that a drain valve similar to the one at the bottom of the stairwell is right behind him. He looks across the room and sees another. He takes a power crystal and activates this drain valve.

Edgar, who immediately knows of this because of the super duper metagaming spell, looks around and notices two more drain valves on his side of the room (which is opposite Al'Sham). The light-bulb clicks on, and Edgar moves to activate another valve.

Joseph Knock continues to fire into the machine, finally taking it offline with his first arrow. His second arrow severs the stalk connecting the monster's helmet to the machine, and the monster sinks lower to the ground, free of the machine and pipes. The third arrow connects with a tentacle and nearly severs it at the base.

The three pipes continue to pump lethe onto monster, and the lethe spreads even further.

The tentacles swing again, dealing regular damage and causing intelligence damage. Saburo comes down with another attack and flies to a less heated part of the room.

Each attack on the monster while it was hooked up to the machine seemed to fill in with lethe, but now the regeneration effect is less pronounced.

The halfling continues to throw daggers, to little effect, he continues to move on top of the consoles in order to avoid the lethe.

    Back to the monster:

One of the pipes stops pumping Lethe, the other two are still going. Lethe spreads further, finally into one of the activated drains. The drain is powerful and pulls a good quantity of lethe away from the pile. It shifts the positions of the tentacles. However, the monster is able to spawn two more tentacles, and perform more attacks on the party members, dealing more intellect damage.

The monster locks eyes with Edgar, and defeats him in a battle of wills. Edgar flashes through a lifetime of teasing and hardship for his flamboyant lifestyle and misunderstood talents. Edgar takes more intellect damage.

However, Edgar does hatch a plan, and wants to rupture the tank of lethe which connects to the pipes overhanging above the big monster. The tank of lethe hangs partially over a drain. Edgar activates a third pump and uses Olaf to move across the room and activate the fourth.

Joseph Knock continues to snipe out the tentacles, killing off one, and damaging another, when the halfling concocts an equally brilliant plan.

Remembering that he possesses an impressive quantity of blast disks, the halfling procures one and passes another to Al'Sham. He throws the blast disk at the base of the monster, landing it perfectly.

Saburo swings down again, doing massive damage to the lethe monster, and continues to fly around the room. Al'Sham also tosses his blast disk in close proximity to the halfling. The tentacles attack again, this time popping up next to Joseph Knock and reducing his intellect into single digits.

Now, the monster has Joseph Knock in its gaze.

It completely crushes Joseph in a battle of wills, and suddenly the surroundings melt away into the scene of the final battle in Camlann Castle. Joseph can only watch helplessly as an extravagantly demonic looking Saburo ends the life of Skelos, the one man he looked up to. Reality snaps back and Joseph Knock's intelligence is reduced further.

    Then, the bombs go off.

The lethe monster reels as silvery liquid sprays everywhere. Luckily, everyone took care to be behind cover. The central area is partly cleared of lethe, and one of the four remaining tentacles loses form as it is in a pool of liquid too thin to retain its shape.

Fortunately, being retarded has nothing to do with being able to aim an arrow. At Edgar's instruction, Joseph Knock takes aim at the lethe tank, puncturing it twice; causing lethe to spill out of it into the open drain. Edgar then punches through the lethe tank with a barrage of magic missiles, causing it to rupture and empty its contents into the drain.

In desperation, the tentacles attempt to grab the now-exposed Edgar and pull him into the lethe, but in a MIRACULOUS grapple check (I roll 3, he rolled 19), Edgar manages to kick off the tentacle.

The hafling emerges to throw a dagger, and connects, whereupon the other two tentacles pop up near him and attack him twice, reducing his intellect further.

Saburo comes down with another devastating attack and Al'Sham decides to spider climb on the ceiling in preparation for something else.

The lethe monster's wounds are starting to show, they haven't sealed over in a while now. The tank that Edgar and Joseph just ruptured has reduced the lethe flow of the two pipes to mere drips.

The last of the lethe falls out of the tank, and the drain sucks it all down, taking a tentacle with it. The lethe monster reels back, and in a desperation attack, attempts to lock eyes with Al'Sham.

However, Al'Sham wins this round, and the scenery melts away, back to the battle with the dragons. A large black dragon, in partial humanoid form, is holding a massive sword. It brings down the sword to the earth, opening up a massive rift in the ground. He looks up: the large silver dragon is falling from the sky into the chasm."

The monster starts twisting and undulating wildly. It changes into various forms, humanoid, animal, dragon, then back to humanoid. It takes the form of a silvery nude woman, and stands bolt upright, eyes skyward, in the middle of the room.

A psychic ripple emanates from her, the party members all hear within their minds:

    "I remember."

    Saburo's sword starts glowing.

First gold, then green, then red, blue, white.

From his sword emerge four spinning, whirling djinn; recognized as the primal elementals from the beginning of this campaign. Each elemental has been forged into the sword, imprisoned within, lending their power to the blade.

Suddenly, the scenery fades away, and full memory is revealed.

The party is taken back to the scene of the dragon battle. A beautiful woman dressed in silver observes the battle from atop a large tower. A voice says "We are ready to flee, my lady."

A voice responds, "No. I will face them."

The woman transforms into a magnificent large, silvery dragon, and flies out to face her enemies. She is the matron of a brood of Mercurial dragons.

After a long struggle, the mercurial queen and her brood are slain by red and black dragons, armed with Muramasa-forged blades (identified by their shapes and distinctive glowing auras).

A large black dragon general commands the earth to open and receive the dragonqueen and her brood as they fall to terra firma.

The mercurial dragons then fall into the chasm, which extends for miles. Above them they can see the fading gleam of light, surrounded by blackness. Suddenly, that light begins to dim as the earth swallows them, and horrific screaming echoes through their psychic minds.

    Reality snaps back.

The djinn exclaim, "Before you lies all that remains of the mercurial dragons and their brood. This is the key to our freedom. Thrust your sword through her, so that we may be free."

The party begins to deliberate the consequences of doing so, as the dragonqueen writhes on the ground.

After contemplating Saburo thrusts the sword into the ground and commands "MURAMASA! COME FORTH!"

A deep, growling voice echoes in all their minds; "Mortal, even I cannot overcome the distance that separates us. Not yet."

Saburo quips back, "Then be silent."

The voice growls in return, "I don't care about your petty choices. Your job is to wield my power."

Saburo asks the dragonqueen, "What of your existence?"

She responds "I would rather DIE than serve those who took the lives of my children..."

Saburo seizes the sword. "So be it." He commands the Djinn to re-enter the blade (the Djinn scream out in pain and agony as they become one with the blade once more).

Then, in one deft stroke, Saburo plunges the blade through the dragonqueen.

The party is a bit freaked out, but this is what we do erreday all day. Time to move on.

The Halfling has a fever, and the only cure is more bombs. He primes a bunch of blast discs and plants them all over the room. The lethe now appears to be completely inert, now that the dragonqueen has been killed.

The party then busts a move out of the place, and heads topside as fast as they can. Upon re-emerging in the foyer of the Beacon, they see that the military has finally established a perimeter inside the building (took 'em long enough).

However, the party then runs out screaming bloody murder about how the whole place is going to blow.

Realizing that living, breathing, people are exclaiming this, (not monsters, not constructs), the soldiers smartly clear out as ten blast disks explode on the bottom floor of the Beacon.

The party boards THE FIST, but Al'Sham remembers that it is low on power. He pries open a floor panel and sees a bunch of depleted power crystals. He rips them out and replaces them with what he has. This provides him with enough power to get THE FIST flying again.

They back out just in time© and start tear-assing through the city in the fistmobile, still pretty shaken from what happened.

Just then, a deep psychic shockwave emanates across the city. Saburo is the only one who feels it, and directs his attention skyward.

A bolt of lightning shoots across the sky, opening up a massive rift portal, through which emerges an enormous airship.

Saburo remembered the warning given by the Djinn so long ago, that the Gith were still looking for their lost sword. It had never meant anything until now.

And then it hit him: the beacon provided a citywide swath of psychic disruption, which was constantly addling his senses. The beacon was the only thing preventing the Gith from finding them... until now.

Fight was in phases. Phase 1 was hooked up to the machine, where it regenerated 60 health a round (20 per tube feeding into it). As long as it was hooked up to the machine, it could not really be killed. "Spreading" the lethe amounted to covering squares with tissue paper, although if I had those stacking pyramid things, I could have represented the thickness better. It was honestly a lot of only the fly stuff, I had an idea of what I wanted to do.

The core monster had 200 health, but 0 AC (Yes. You automatically hit it unless you roll a 1), and the tubes would continue to pump lethe for 1d6 rounds after being severed, offering that much regeneration to the monster. The party caught on DAMN quick to attack the machine, and took it a step further by depleting it's goop stores. The drains were added to the room to give them additional options and a fighting chance in case things went south.

The gaze attacks were executed every round, and were an opposed will save at +15 for the monster. If the monster won, a traumatic memory from the character's backstory was brought up, and the victim suffered 1d4 INT damage.

The monster could spawn two tentacles on it's own, with an additional tentacle for each tube currently pumping lethe (so a maximum of 5, minimum of 2). These tentacles could attack move anywhere there was a thick spread on their own turns, as well as during the monster's turn.

Tentacles had 20 Health, 26 AC, one attack at +13 that did 2d10 damage with 1d4 INT damage, and +15 to grapple.

The encounter was the most challenging I've ever attempted or personally seen.

Question that I couldn't help but wondering as I read about the monsters gaze attack.

What would it do if it gazed at the halfling, "He who ends lives"? The halfling doesn't really have a name even, let alone a known backstory. Or is that why you didn't have it gaze at D.B.?

And I think it is fitting that you would lose the backstory to a character like that; seems exactly how the halfling would like it.

One of his character traits is that he's incredibly particular about his teeth.

As in, if you managed to knock out his teeth, he flips out and kills you, then kills himself and torments you in the afterlife.

His backstory is more of a rationale for how he sees the world, not really anything in terms of events, just traits that define his character.

I will say that he plays chaotic evil the best I've ever seen.
    >> Anonymous 09/08/10(Wed)01:40 No.12000316
    >>12000230
Have any more examples of him doing chaotic evil really well that weren't important enough to bring up in the story? Sorry to bug you, but he seems to get less screen time than the other people (although him being d.b. prolly counters that this session) but interests me because I know little about him.

I wouldn't ask for examples, but when you use terms such as "best I've ever seen", I sort of want to know more. You don't have to if you don't want though, it is late already. Maybe next time?

(my interest in him reminds me of my interest in the Rumbling Brothers from the elf slayers guys threads. Hell they were awesome.)

He basically has no fear of death or retribution from NPCs. Makes it interesting when he does something that puts the party in hot water, and they have to get out of it.

He also finds creative ways to act in combat. He kind of got shafted when fighting constructs due to lack of sneak attack. However, he still made great use of blast disks despite not being able to directly attack enemies.
